Not necessarily the best dim sum I've ever had but Dim Sum Cafe offered a wide spread of dishes not found at other restaurants in AZ. Each item being made fresh was also a plus. Parking and indoor dining was spacious. Since each dish was made to order, the dishes trickled in but we were satisfied with the timing. The table never went empty and finished plates were cleared immediately. 10/10 for service. =FOOD= Each person got soy sauce and dumpling sauce. Would have benefited from chili oil. *Steamed Shrimp Dumplings: the skin on the thicker and gummier side. Too chewy of a bite. *Shu Mai: some of the best and biggest shu mai I've ever had. Juicy pork center with thin surrounding wrapper. Perfectly seasoned filling *Braised Chicken Feet: the sauce needed to be more robust. There was minimal spice and saltiness. Expected earthiness but got sweet and sour instead. *Shanghai Soup Dumplings: very affordable but the dumpling skin was very thick. Soup contents were variable and some had none. Meat filling was tasty *Steamed BBQ Pork Buns: BBQ pork was a bit salty while the bun was very sweet. Wished there was a greater ratio of pork to bread. *Scallion Pancakes: crispy but no flavor. Resembled a cracker instead. *Custard Buns: good sweet finish. Bit too doughy but the custard was smooth and eggy. *Chicken Fried Rice: lots of tender chicken slices combined with flavorful rice. Not too heavy and served as a good base. *Combination Lo Mein: amazing, bouncy noodles and sauce. Perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness and oiliness. Generous cuts of shrimp and beef. *Fried Chicken Wings: hot and crispy. Thin, salted exterior with moist chicken interior. Simple but unproblematic. Dim Sum Cafe is a great introductory restaurant to those who are foreign to dim sum or Asian cuisine in general. Considering everything was reasonably priced and sized, it wasn't difficult to try many dishes and leave full without breaking the bank. Will return for the fried dishes and shu mai. read more

Love this place!! I was craving for some dim sum after a sporting event. I placed an order online and drove only a few miles from my hotel to picked it up. Their Shu Mai are huge!!! I was really surprised when I opened the box, I was expecting them to be those small one you often see at the Chinese restaurant but they are not!! I also got their beef chow fun, which was the main reason I picked this place, their portion is huge well!! Totally getting your money worth!! I knew I had to get one when I looked at their picture. I highly recommend this place if you are craving for some good dim sum. I will definitely be back here next time when I m in town. read more

Went to get some dim sum at this little hole in the wall. The dim sum selection was small and basic, but they had everything that we needed. Also ordered the house lo mien, which was soooo good. I loved their chili oil too. The only strange part was that the tip was written in when we received the bill. I'm not sure if it was a miscommunication on my dad's part when he went to get the bill, and it was a fine tip amount for the service we received, but we would have preferred to write it in ourselves. read more

The place isn't super busy and gives attentive service.  It has a hole-in-the-wall feel but is nicely lit inside with a bit of natural light.  The vibe is authentic without being cheesy.  I take the misspelled English translations on the menu as a sign of authenticity.  Their menu has a variety of traditional dim sum, though nothing crazy, and plenty of other Chinese food to try family-style for picky eaters and/or the unfamiliar.   It's impossible not to love their crab wontons, which are basically the platonic ideal of this food. Their BBQ pork buns are similarly a crowd-pleaser. The red bean buns are good, but nothing special.  They're pillowy but occasionally somewhat dry.  I like how the red bean filling doesn't have any artificial taste to it. My favorite piece is the soup dumplings.  They're a perfectly satisfying bite (and you have to do it all in one or you'll dribble broth all over!)  The flavor isn't intense, but there's plenty going on with it, from the soft dumpling cover, the salty broth, and the umami filling.  The "mixed" vegetables were a letdown on our first trip- apparently, just chinese broccoli mixed with a little bit of garlic is mixed veggies.  It's not that it wasn't good - it's just very one-note. The lo mein has the classic flavor and a nice variety of vegetables mixed in, and the portion size for the price is above average generous.  However, it's a little greasy so it sits heavy in the stomach. cold, refrozen, dim sum. very dissatisfied at a recent 1st time visit. all of our food was lukewarm. we were the 1st customers of the day and we had disgusting food. I paid about 45 dollars for 3 dim sum plates and a lunch special which was not appetizing. the sesame chicken had a strange clear gooey syrup and the friend rice was brown with no vegetables. I was confused as the dim sum cafe has almost 5 stars on each platform. sadly this was the 1st time having dim sum and that's what I'll remember. the shrimp dumplings all stuck together and were piled up in each other so they fell apart. the shumai dumplings tasted like freezer burnt pork, and the soup dumplings were cold and had no soup or broth I them. they were not homemade. aside from that all 6 workers sat in the lobby area watching us eat as they were not busy. no tv, no music, just 6 men watching us 2 ladies eat. 5 stars solely for the fact that they are the only restaurant I have found in the east valley that makes a char sui noodle soup! It's one dish I crave and reminds me of my childhood. They make it well and the noodles seem fresh and not over cooked. BBQ pork also was made well- cooked perfectly and not over done with bbq. Love the added touch of bok choy in the soup. Being fortunate enough to have a home here in wonderful Scottsdale and one in the San Francisco Bay Area I can be a bit picky about my dim sum. Having read the reviews we decided to head to Mesa to check Dim Sum Cafe. We WERE NOT disappointed. I was surprised to see a Dim Sum place near my hotel at Mesa open for dinner. Since the Yelp eating was really good, so I decided to give it a try. They don't really offer lots a Dim Sum selections, but rather a variety of Chinese dishes I ordered Shrimp Dumpling (4x) and Spicy Szechuan Seafood Pot. The Diim Sum dumpling was great as expected from any good Dim Sum restaurant. The Seafood Pot, though claimed to be spicy, was not really carry much heat. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty, but I felt they overloaded with fried tofu. The dish is usually served on a clay pot, but they used an aluminum one. It might keep the food hot for longer time, the aluminum is not ideally to hold hot food due to possibly metal leaching. read more

My friend and I came in on a Tuesday evening (5:30pm) and were seated right away. The place itself is quite small but we were the only customers there. Makes sense since Dim Sum is usually a brunch/lunch type meal but I'm not complaining about having no wait time. We ordered the Shumai (x2), Shanghai Soup Dumplings, and Crispy Fried Tofu. The tofu came out after ten minutes. First thing I noticed was the sauce since it had such a strong but nice scent. The size of the tofu pieces were decently big and the texture outside was perfectly crispy. I liked that the sauce paired well with the tofu but is pretty versatile with the other food items. Everything else came around five minutes later. The Shanghai Soup dumplings were okay. I thought the outer layer was pretty dense and slightly tough when compared to the filling, which was nice and juicy. I would recommend other dishes to this. The Shumai was my favorite. I loved how dense it was since that's what made it a filling meal. I think we could've done well with just one serving of it. Other Dim Sum places I've been to don't have as big/densely packed Shumai so this was definitely a pleasant surprise. Service was friendly. Food was delicious and came out in a prompt manner. My husband and I used to be avid customers about 5 years ago, then the chef left and the food wasn't the same so we stopped going. Last night we were really craving Chinese food so we thought why not give this place another shot. We ordered takeout - we got the crab puffs, general tso's chicken and the bbq pork lo mein. The crab puffs had 0 crab, it was legit just cream cheese. The chicken in the general tso's was very dry, as well as the bbq pork in the lo mein. The pork was inedible, my husband and I took one bite and threw out the rest. It seems like the food had been cooked hours ago, maybe even yesterday. We ate what we could since we were starving. The portion sizes were extremely small as well. We decided to call the restaurant to complain and the man on the phone basically told us that the food is good despite our criticism. He mentioned that they had sold a lot of the bbq pork lo mein today and that they did not receive any complaints. He said he hopes we would try them again and we could get a discount. I told him what I said in the beginning of this review and he said that it was a different group 5 years ago and he has nothing to do with it. I told him I would be leaving a detailed review on yelp and google. His response was okay you do that. I hung up. We were extremely dissatisfied and they did nothing to make it right. I know there is an inflation crisis ,but no fried rice is not worth $18+ unless it is great with superior ingredients. Our fried spare ribs was so tough it was hard to chew. One of the dim sum dish didn't taste fresh, shrimp dumplings were mushy & we got scallion pan cake with no scallion. First time we went, all the dim sum was executed deliciously, but our 2nd visit was not very enjoyable. However the server was very friendly and efficient. Well this was a $60 huge disappointment. *The egg drop and the sweet and sour soup had good flavor but they used dried vegetables and the peas were not 100% rehydrated and still crunchy. *The crap rangoons had zero crab in them, only 100% cream cheese. I asked our server to adjust our bill since there was no crab, she insisted there was crab in them. No adjustment or redo was offered. * the pork/ vegetable riblets where full of fat and grizzle. Less than half was edible. * the pork dumplings and hum bao tasted exactly the same. *the shrimp dumplings' wrapping where sticking to the steam basket and fell apart when lifting them out. *There is no dim sum cart to choose from , you order off the menu only. First off, I think the interior could use a little touch-up. It looks a little bit out dated. However, that's not a deal breaker for me though, as long as the food tastes good. It's not common for any Chinese restaurant to serve dim sum all day. So I had to check it out! Shu Mai - Classic Chinese dim sum dish that every dim sum place must have as a standard. I usually critique the restaurant based off the most basic dish. I wasn't disappointed at all. The Shu Mai filling was well-seasoned. It was salty and sweet with a hint of white pepper. It had a perfect ratio of pork and shrimp and topped it off with shitake mushroom, which created such a nice texture. It was steamed perfectly. It took about 15 minutes to come out, so I assume these are made to order. Which was even better. The Shu Mai came with soy sauce, but this wasn't the regular kikuman soy sauce. The soy sauce was sweet and tangy, it reminded me of a traditional Dim Sum soy sauce. Pork dumpling - The dumpling wrap had a good thickness and the filling was nicely packed. It was good, but it didn't stand out as being a regular pork dumpling. Egg rolls - It wasn't the traditional egg rolls we used to. The egg roll skin was crispy. The filling was well-seasoned. The egg roll was a good size, bigger than usual. The service was amazing. Even though I did not dine-in but I felt really welcome here. The Dim Sum was really good overall. I enjoy myself a good Dim Sum restaurant and Dim Sum Cafe does a decent job. I do miss the days of carts being pushed around the restaurant as if the waitresses/waiters were hustling the days catch. However, with the modern age; I understand that could be gone simply because of labor cost. Dim Sum Cafe delivers some traditional favorites from Shrimp Dumpling, Siu Mai, Chicken Feet, and Steam Pork Baos. They also implement some more non-traditional bites like onions pancakes and Soupy Dumplings. Moreover, my favorite of the day had to be the Shrimp Dumplings; they were steaming hot, but the wraps around it had a hint of doughiness that provided a much-welcomed texture. Second in line had to be the sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. It wasn't so much different from what I'm used to, but the portion and serving size was cut in half. I've always had to share the original size since I didn't want to stuff myself full before eating everything else. Aside from the two items I highlighted; I didn't think Dim Sum Cafe was too far different from any other Dim Sum restaurants. Really solid dim sum and Chinese dishes here! We ordered steamed pork ribs, char siu bao, har gaw, beef chow fun, soup dumplings, shui mai and they were all delicious. Unfortunately they only had one chef working that night so he was slammed. The char siu bao were the biggest letdown for me. Just not a lot of flavor! But everything else was delicious. I've come to DSC several times recently. Each time I have been very satisfied with the service and the food. My kids LOVE the fried potstickers (we shared a dozen tonight - 2 orders). We also have tried the shrimp dumplings , the pork shumai, the soup dumplings, and the bbq pork steamed dumplings. I have enjoyed all of these. In fact, the soup dumplings are my favorites that I've tasted. Previously, I would get the xiao long bao at Chou's in Tempe, but the XLB at DSC is tastier in my opinion. Tonight we also tried the Mandarin beef. This was very good, and we devoured the large portion completely. We ordered the Mandarin beef to be not spicy so the kids would eat it, and they really liked it too. My only complaint after several visits was that the pork buns don't have enough bbq pork in them. The bun:pork ratio is just too much. That said, they still taste good. I look forward to my next visit! read more

I've been craving steamed pork buns for awhile now, so of course I go onto Yelp to see what other fellow Yelpers suggest for this craving. Well, I'm so happy that Yelp exists because I would have never found this wonderful place. I got so many wonderful, good portioned dishes. I'm not sure how prices usually range when it comes to this kind of food, but I was okay with the pretty penny I spent. Food comes out moderately quick, and hot! No time wasted from kitchen to table. The presentation of the plates are simple but aesthetically pleasing. The ambiance of the restaurant is nothing special, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I can see why some reviews say "lacking flavor," but they must have been skipping out on sauces. Not to mention there are also salt, pepper, and soy sauce placed at the table for your convenience... Sadly I was not impressed by the dim sum. The xlb had no soup, the tempura shrimp was coconut shrimp, shumei was decent and I didn't try the pork buns. I truly don't know how they have 4.5 stars. They have an order form you can fill out while waiting in line, which helps speed up the ordering process and avoids any miscommunication between the customer and staff. Very good dim sum. The dim sum doesn't come around on a cart so it's nice to have the ability to order dim sum and not be restrained to a specifc serviing time like Mekong which ends at 3. This restaurant serves dim sum until 8pm closing time and the dim sum comes out steaming hot. Maybe a little too hot for my liking but can't complain I guess. They didn't have specific dishes that my girlfriend and I were looking for. Such as the shrimp rice noodle roll and any sort of duck. Definitely a smaller dim sum menu compared to most. The restaurant is a little small hence it being a "Cafe" so keep that in mind. Overall, very good dim sum. Doesn't really feel like the authentic dim sum experience with carts and all that but the service was excellent, no language barrier and the servers are very quick and responsive. I think each plate averaged around 6.99 so its a little on the pricier side but it defintely tastes fresh and I would recommend this place for anyone who wants dim sum without the carts and willing to pay a little extra for freshness. read more

Super happy to come across a dim dumpling place nearby in Mesa. Start off with the soup dumplings they rated a very high four. We moved onto a wonton noodle soup. Also rated that a very high four. Finished it off with General Tso chicken. For this entrée, I give it between a three and a four. The reason for this is that the grease taste was obviously from old grease.
