***3.5 Stars*** Ding Tea has been open for about 5 months now and the location is great since it's right next to a high school and is a corner lot. Parking is in the back of the establishment and you have to walk to the front to enter. Their interior is clean and bright, with a nice wallpaper for photos of your drink. I want to start off by saying that the girls that helped me with my order today were really helpful and friendly! Being that it was my first time, they gave me suggestions on customer favorites and offered to give samples. The Oolong Milk Tea is their #1 drink here, however after sampling it, I thought it was just average. I compared it with Share Tea's and I have to say it wasn't up to par with their Oolong. After a couple other samples, I decided to go with the Taro and Jasmine Milk Tea. Both were also average, my eyes didn't widen and I didn't fall in love or anything but it wasn't terrible either. I like that they offer split cups, it's always nice when you can get two flavors instead of just one. Because I checked in on yelp, they granted me my free boba topping and the total came out to be $4.89, not bad! Overall, I think Ding Tea is just your average boba place. I wouldn't mind getting it from time to time since I live close by, but it's definitely not a favorite. 3.5 stars because of the exceptional service I received today! read more

First time trying this new establishment and it wasn't too bad! Cute place with some nice decor. They're currently having a "Buy 5, Get 1 free" deal! Located in a small plaza right next to Subway and in front of Andrew Hill High School. Totally wished this was here when I was in high school! Parking may be a little difficult since the parking lot is pretty small. I ordered the Oolong Milk Tea w/ pearls and my brother had the Aloe Vera Kiwi Juice w/ pearls. If you're not a fan of sweetness, I highly recommend lowering the sweetness level to at least 75%. I regret not doing that because my oolong was super sweet compared to other places I've been to. It was hard to finish. Although, the oolong milk tea was good and tasted authentic. As for the kiwi juice, also overly too sweet for me. My brother likes it but I didn't find anything special about it. Literally just tasted like straight up juice. I wouldn't want to order this. Pearls on the other hand wasn't bad. It was chewy & not too sweet just the way I like it! Service wasn't bad for a place that hasn't been opened for long! The drinks lack consistency; at sometimes there isn't enough flavor, sometimes the boba is hard, etc. One day my boba was crumbly as if it was straight from the freezer, another they completely forgot it. Ding Tea seems to be a pretty established place in Taiwan and a few other countries, and today at 1pm, they finally opened their doors for a soft opening in San Jose! I came here literally seconds before the high school/middle school invasion (literally andrew hill high school and sylvandale middle school are across the street!!!!)! They are doing a special buy 2 get 1 drink free or buy 2 and get 1 small gift which is a small emoji plush (refer to photos). I like the inside of the place. It's simple and comfy, definitely a place to hangout for all the high schoolers. Why wasn't this place around when I went to high school!??! The cashier was super nice and helped with all my questions. We ordered the matcha latte, peach green tea w/ egg pudding, and the jasmine green tea mousse w/ boba. All regular sweetness and ice levels, which you could adjust if you wanted to. Peach green tea w/ egg pudding: Way too sweet for my liking, but underneath the sweetness it tasted good! Your standard peach green tea, definitely will get it less sweet next time and I will probably enjoy it better. Matcha latte: This one is my favorite so far because the matcha flavor is so good! It definitely tastes authentic and strong. I would also get this with a little less sweetness as well, but still a winner in my book! Jasmine green tea: This one was my least favorite. The mousse on top is basically their version of creama except the texture is fluffy (mousse-like, duh). I really really liked the mousse! It isn't salty like other creamas, just slightly sweet. The jasmine green tea however was very bitter (even though I normally like unsweetened green tea) and even after shaking it together, wasn't so great. For some reason it didn't mix well with the mousse. I would definitely try the mousse again on a different tea base (probably would taste awesome on the matcha latte!) Omg.... Tonight was my first visit and I liked it so far until this moment. I'm so indifferent because well, as I'm finishing up my oolong milk tea with egg pudding, I immediately felt a hair in my mouth. I spit out the piece of pudding I was eating. Definitely not my hair because 1) my hair is tied up in a bun right now 2) my hair isn't black and 3) the hair is intwined in the pudding meaning it was mixed in the pudding batch when they made it. Honestly I am sorry that I even have to rate this place 1 star. Understandably this place is new, but my experience today will keep me from coming back. The venue was definitely nice, good place to chill. Considering that it just opened, I expected the employees to be more enthusiastic, but no smiles were seen. Decided to try out this boba place since it's near my friends old high school. I got the # Hokkaido grass jelly milk tea. It was a very good blend of milk tea, not too strong like oolong but not watered down either. The grass jelly was also very tasty and always my favorite! I also got 50% ice and 75% sweet so it's not too sweet. My girlfriend got the oolong milk tea with boba, the boba was very chewy and not hard at all, while the tea was very strong and tasted very intense but still good. Looks like they've been newly remodeled! Good hangout spot with a loungey vibe. Comfortable cushioned seating. I would recommend the winter melon oolong salted cheese($4.50), but beware the drinks here are extremely sweet. Get 50% sweetness or even less! They have green tea boba here(texture is similar to the crystal boba). The salted cheese here is a lot thicker than other places, which is nice because it doesn't easily mix all the way with the tea. The panda milk tea( comes with black and crystal boba) is good as well. Apparently it is their most popular drink on the menu. They are currently having a promotion (buy 2 get 1 free) so take advantage of the deal! I didn't get a chance to try their snacks but they had some tasty options such as crab fries. Barely drank more than 1/5 of my cup and I found a long strain of hair from my drink. UNACCEPTABLE ! What kind of an establishment are you that this is allow this to happen?!?!? I ordered the Mousse (Crema) Oolong milk tea with regular sugar & black and white pearls. It was a sweet drink with a bitter/slight herbaly-tea/taste after taste. It's not uber sweet like Cool Tea Bar or Tea Society. It actually tastes like a tea rather than a sugary milk. Definitely would come back to try the rest of the flavors that they offer. I also like how they have paper menus as the screen board is recessed in the back where they make drinks. You have to walk to the register and get the paper menus though. The tea here is mediocre, nothing special. Tons of places taste exactly like it. It has a weird aftertaste, and there's a weird residue left over (I think they use milk powder). I also had a to wait 20 minutes for two drinks even though they were even busy. They did apologize for the wait though so I appreciated that. Drinks had strong tea flavor and delicious fresh tasting toppings. You can customize the sweetness and ice level to your liking. The girl who took our order was super helpful. She didn't get annoyed by our endless questions and gladly offered to remake our drinks if we didn't like them. Fortunately that wasn't necessary because we all loved the 4 drinks we got. Pro tip: If you haven't tried Yakult teas before, I highly recommend you give them a try. Be sure to ask for 70% sugar unless you have a really sweet tooth. I asked her if the panda milk tea is $4 and she said yes it is but you're getting the toppings which is additional $0.75 each. Usually I either get their Jasmine MT or their Brown sugar fresh milk with either boba or egg pudding. Both drinks and toppings are pretty good! I have gotten their taro smoothie here once and it was soooo amazing. The cup size is bigger than their cup for teas but I'm not complaining!! If you love taro, you should definitely check it out. Considering that I love sweet drinks, the brown sugar fresh milk had me in awe!! Definitely recommend for anyone who loves their drinks sweet. First of all, their sample teas were at 100% sweetness, which I do not recommend if you don't like your teas to taste like 70% sugar, 30% tea. The girl at the cashier was very nice and accommodating. She offered to make up samples of whatever tea we wanted to try. The lychee milk tea we sampled was very sugary and didn't taste much like tea. My friend and I ended up getting a Mousse Jasmine green tea (with pearls) and a Lychee milk tea (with lychee jelly). Both were ordered at 75% sweetness. Their mousse is like a "crème" or "milk foam" but once shaken into the drink, it doesn't add an extra creaminess or frothiness that usual milk foam teas have. Their boba is NOT HONEY BOBA, which isn't a criticism, but it was a surprise, so if you are expecting sweet boba, it will not be sweet. The consistency is chewy but the Jasmine tea is lacking in a good tea flavor - or any tea flavor for that matter. At about $4 a cup (.50 for toppings), it was not worth the price. The store layout is very strange. While there is nice decor, the cash register is located on the left when you enter, where they inconveniently placed black line dividers. The menu is hard to see unless you're standing right at the cash register. Their customer service is great. The two workers I encountered were very nice, but this doesn't make up for their disappointing drinks. Their workers and the nice casual setting would be the only reason to come back. read more

Ding tea is my go-to tea place and it will always feel like my second home and the tea there is just great. And the deals are amazing!

As a warning to those looking for the SoCal boba chain Ding Tea, this ain't it. I believe they used to be part of Ding Tea the chain but have since decided to become independent and operate under the same/ very similar name. In my opinion that was very misleading to me and my friends. Drink/ food order: Passion fruit milk tea w boba (1/5), and Oolong milk tea w boba(2/5). Crab fries (4/5) and Takoyaki fries (4/5) First the drinks! This is probably one of the worst milk tea drinks I have ever tasted. The passion fruit milk tea was just wrong tasting. Maybe the recipe just wasn't good or the boba baristas were inexperienced but the milk tea was extremely sour and extremely sweet to the point I winced when I took my first sip. The syrup was really unbalanced and there was no tea taste whatsoever. As for the oolong milk tea it was weird tasting. It had a strong nutty taste which did not resemble oolong at all. Oolong is my go to drink and I have had a lot of it. This oolong was like a bad imitation of what oolong is supposed to be. Both drinks were definitely made with milk powder as well. We ended up throwing away the drinks while they were still very full because they weren't drinkable the flavor was too overpowering. On top of this the milk teas were $4 and boba is an additional 75¢!!! I know that boba is generally this price around San Jose but honestly this was some true low quality completely overpriced boba milk tea! When I pay $5 for a cup of boba I expect it to taste good and be of good quality tea at least decent tea. Overall drinks were wrongfully high priced, bad quality and not at all worth. Food: the fries were quite good although the pictures make it look bigger than it actually is. Only redeeming thing about this place is the fries which we got the crab and Takoyaki ones. The price was around 5.50 and it was pretty fair. One thing I noticed though is that the original chain Ding Tea also had a similar food and drink menu and it makes me think they are trying to pass this place off as the chain to draw people in which is sketchy. Also, the reviews on Yelp are merged with the old ding tea which seems like it was better rated. So on top of this, the rating of the Yelp reviews for the stars are misrepresented. Staff: when we walked in it was near empty maybe two other people were there. The orders took a while and when I got up to get them I didn't see the receipt taped to the cup because it was facing the other side and I asked the barista as she handed it to me, which tea was which to which she snapped at me, " its on the cup! " In a tone like I was stupid or something. I dont think it's that hard to verify even with the tags on which is which esp since there were only two cups. TLDR: The lady was very rude and made the drinks very poorly. Overall, save your money and your time boba or lychee jelly or ANY topping is never worth 0.75 and their milk tea is utter garbage. Food is good but not worth dealing with the people who work there when they are so rude. read more

I've been drinking the tea here for quite some time until the customer service went spiraling downhill as time passed by. Today was an unsatisfying experience. I bought two Passion Fruit Black Tea at regular sugar, my usual. However, today the drink was extremely sweet. How to describe how sweet: it was sweet like tasting pure fructose. I could not taste the black tea. I went up to the cashier and asked if they could remake it, knowing that the drinks and fructose were shook altogether. They informed me that they could not remake the drinks because they already made it. I never understood their policy on this because one of the employees gladly remade my drink because of the same reason in the past. The employee who declined remaking my drink also had a tone that sounds like they did not enjoy speaking with me about this matter. However I'm giving this place two stars because of BAD customer service. This time I went when they were busy. After I placed in my order, I waited outside. However, I noticed there were two people waiting inside for their orders. After I waited for the two people to get their orders and left, I came inside to wait for my order since I knew that it will be next. Then I looked to the side and saw the two ladies there looking at me. One of the girls ( the fat one) asked me with an attitude to wait outside without letting me explain why I was there. Then I went outside and waited .. and there was my order ! I understand that they wanted to practice social distancing, but they could have asked the other customers who were previously waiting inside for their orders as well. I was so disappointed about how they have dealt with the situation since there were only myself and the other two customers waiting inside and we also practiced social distancing ... Besides, I was wondering how you would wait outside and know when their orders are ready since you cannot here anything from the outside when the doors are closed?.. I wish I did not give them the tips in the first place.. They did not deserve it .. Came here a little late on a Sunday night, after 10pm. Was recommended this place from a friend and it was on the way home so I gave it a try. It was pretty empty since it was so late but the service was super fast. I ordered a honey green tea with boba and it was alright. Since there's honey I expected it to be sweet so I asked for 75% sugar/sweetness but when I got the drink it ended up tasting very bitter. I could barely even taste the honey, the tea tasted very strong and overpowering. I'd like to come back and try other drinks but maybe wouldn't adjust the sweetness since the taste of tea seems very strong. But I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get a drink here. read more
