The hostess was extremely rude to us and other guests when we visited a few days ago. We witnessed her snapping back at a guest who had simple questions about seating, and when we asked to be moved to the back courtyard after dinner so we could have another drink and listen to the live music, she rolled her eyes and stomped into the back to see if there was a table available. Needless to say we left after not feeling comfortable with her tantrum. Customers lost. The food was good although high priced. There are better choices out there. read more

I have been eating here for years, but the last visit was a disaster. Gone was the interesting, varied menu of the past. Now it is just Mexican (not even New Mexican) standards with a few salads - the usual enchiladas and rellanos. And not done well. I ordered enchiladas and somehow the waiter thought I wanted the sauce on the side. I got two hard as rock corn tortillas with cheese soldered to the plate and two little sides of chile. read more

Since COVID this restaurant has gone down hill. A friend and I shared the nachos that we ordered with meat. There wasn't even a tablespoon of meat. My friends granddaughter ordered the burger with fries. Burgers at one time were very good there but hers was maybe 4 ounces, dry and disgusting. There wasn't even a handful of fries. The burger and fries cost $20.00...I'd rather go to MacDonalds for the same and far less expensive. There is NO WAY I will eat there again. By the way we ate in the bar area. read more

we loved going here for dinner and drink . the nachos for some insane reason they changed thier menu and now a lot of the things we used to love are unrecognizable and awful. nachos used to be amazing. now they're using a velveeta style cheese wiz it was literally disgusting. the asked the waiter and he said they've been overwhelmed with complaints and since they changed menu and cooks. he suggested we go on yelp and leave a comment which i've never done before i really hope they undo these awful changes. completely ruined the experience read more

Food was awesome. Service was trash. Hate to be mean but had an empty water glass for 40 minutes and had to ask 4 times to get a refill. Check also took forever. Would love to try in a non Covid environment, but slow by any standard. Would still recommend based on food quality. read more

We just ate here and it was delicious. It was a busy night and we didn't call ahead for a reservation but they were kind enough to set us up for 30mins before closing. No worries. We went across the the distillery and had a drink. When we came back they sat us right away. I had the Enchilada platter, cheese, but asked the waiter Michael if I could get a side of Chorizo. He was such a kind and polite waiter. And for it to be his last table of the night he was as pleasant as of we were his first. The chorizo made the dish POP. The enchiladas were fantastic. Plenty of cheese but I recommend asking for Michael and the chorizo. If you're in Taos, call ahead. It's worth it. Next time I'm getting the Green Chile Cheesecake Chimichanga too! After a long day we decided to stop in town and have a decent meal. We found Doc Martins which is in a nice old Adobe house with great NM/ Jazz esthetics which creates a fun environment. The food was really good too. We ordered the NM Green Chile Relleno that is breaded with blue corn and topped the roasted Piñon. As well as the Blue corn chicken enchiladas, the Grilled Rainbow Trout and for dessert a Green Chile Cheese Cake. Along with some local brews from the bar. read more

I went here with a group of 9 and our waitress was very accommodating and friendly. We ordered a bunch of drinks and appetizers that were overall good. However, the steak fajitas were not worth the cost-- they lacked flavor and the portion was skimpy. Had an amazing experience for the Christmas Eve. Wine pairing at Doc Martens on Christmas Eve. My family and I were in Taos visiting from Albuquerque, and made reservations for the Christmas Eve wine pairing dinner. I must say the food was amazing. My scallops were cooked to perfection, and we're probably the most flavorful and beautiful scallops I have ever eaten. For the second course I I have the steak with the red wine reduction. It was amazing the sauce, and the cook of the meat, with the pairing of the wine was a beautiful combination which I extremely enjoyed. The dessert was very delicious and presented beautifully. However, I wish I could've had more. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I'm glad that we spent our Christmas Eve at dark holidays. The service was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive, and the entire ambience of the holiday was amazing. Doc martens is truly a hidden gem and I would sincerely recommend it to anybody passing through Taos. read more

I recently made my first trip to Taos. My friend and I were going to eat at a different restaurant, but it was closed until December. The sign to the Taos Inn looks so cool and inviting that we decided to have lunch at Doc Martin's. Am I ever glad we did! We sat in the bar which has a lovely, historical, warm and comfy feel to it. We shared two entrées and both were completely perfect and tasted out of this world! We had the blue corn and pinon nut pancakes. I can't even describe how wonderful they were. Browned and crispy on the outside and lovely & moist inside. We also shared the huevos rancheros, and each component of the dish was perfect, from the blue corn tortilla to the fried potatoes to the red Chile sauce. Our waiter, Jeremy, was a delight. I definitely recommend this restaurant when you visit Taos! read more

This popular spot in the midst of Taos' north end shops provided a pleasant dinner for my wife and I. Service was attentive and gracious (yay, Jesus) and the margaritas were very good though high on the ice content. I had the tamale plate and my wife had the trout. We ate here today for Christmas and it was very disappointing. The chipotle shrimp was bland and over cooked. My friends daughter carne asada was also bland and it was all around disappointing, especially given the price vs what the food tasted like. My friend said that the prime rib was too little of a portion and it was also flavorless so he dipped it constantly in the sauce to try and give it flavor. Headed home to Denver and decided to spend the night in Taos. Asking for dinner recommendations at the desk. One of the upscale places that we decided on was Doc Martin's. We asked to be seated in the dining room and were accommodated. I ordered a merlot which turns out they had none but compensated with a nice replacement. The wife & I ordered the roasted beat salad with fresh greens, goat cheese, candied nuts and a vinaigrette dressing. Greens were fresh but the salad was completely undressed and dry without a hint of dressing or vinegar scent. The "roasted beets were the quality of canned beets. I brought this to the server's attention. The kitchen supplied an oil/vinegar which took quite a bit of mixing on our part to emulsify in order to impart a slight vinegar flavor. I ordered the "King Trumpet Mushrooms and Huitlacoche Mole" dish, which was more like another salad than an entrée. The mushrooms were rubbery and hard to chew and completely void of any flavor. The mole was also tasteless. I tried salting the dish to taste but realized that I would be consuming way too much salt to get the dish to a palatable taste. In the end I was only able to get a few bites of very salted chewy king trumpet mushroom slices. It was all brought to the attention of the server. Although the server offered a compromise we declined respectfully only to request that the chef be aware of our issues. We paid full price for the meal and a 20% gratuity. It gives me no joy to post this review in light of the impact on the food industry over the recent past. My only wish is that these employees show a little more appreciation for the customer, as the customer shows them by choosing to support their industry. I'll not give this place another chance. Maybe because it's a Sunday and they don't have their A team, but the service is absolutely horrific. I checked into the Taos Inn today, grabbed a drink at the bar and came to sit outside because all seats inside were taken. I had no idea that there were servers waiting on the tables on the patio but I soon found out because I was berated by the server who informed me that I wouldn't sit out there if I didn't order from her. So delicious! We celebrated my birthday at Doc Martin's tonight and everything we had was 5 STARS! Started with the Chile relleno appetizer and a classic margarita and paloma. For dinner, I had the Trout, my bf had the special (seafood linguine) and finally we had the Baileys Creme brûlée for dessert. We had such a nice time dining on the patio. Tables were appropriately distanced and the employees were working hard to keep everything sanitized. We will definitely recommend this place to any friends visiting Taos! read more

We took our adult kids here on a Monday night. My mother forewarned me the food was subpar but it was late and we had been turned down at another restaurant. It was very full and they asked us to sit in the bar area. We ordered the surf and turf and my son added a bowl of the elk stew with lintels. The stew had little seasoning and I don't think anyone rinsed the lintels because all I could taste was dirt when I sampled it. We ordered two surf and turfs to split. We ordered our steaks medium rare but they came out almost blue. They had zero flavor. The mashed potatoes were extremely bland, but the asparagus were good. We promptly asked for to go boxes and took it back to our house where I totally remade the meal and salvaged $156. The bar was nice but the guitar player was the great which made up for the subpar food somewhat. Our server was actually really good too. I am so disappointed in our experience tonight. My husband and I have always had great experiences and we bragged about this place and brought our friends. Our nice server was rushed and didn't even ask for us to taste the multiple bottles of wine that we ordered (we've all worked as fine dining servers and are compassionate, to a point). Then, we received our bill after we expected to order dessert and we are told the kitchen was closed. The apex of our Taos experience was sorely disappointed. Please don't take an 8pm reservation if you can't deliver. We spent a lot of money and wish we had the experience there were used to. read more

My mother is a picky eater so we had looked at a few places before deciding on Doc's. I kinda didn't want to like this place due to some of the reviews I read but I was just happy that my mom finally picked a place. The menu was pretty sparse and didn't really have a theme really to the menu items. I did order there famous cowboy Buddha margarita witch was very good but it was in small bowl glass and had a lot of ice in it, the second one I ordered had even more ice so I did feel for $12 that I should be getting atleast a regular size margarita not 70% ice 30% drink. Rude Hostess, we arrived early before our scheduled reservation. The restaurant was empty. My husband and I had dressed up and was looking forward to a nice evening. He had just drove 8 hours to visit me as I was in Taos helping the hospital. The hostess showed us to our table way in the corner in the back near the kitchen door. We kindly ask for any table not in a corner and as no one else was there thought this request could easily be accommodated. The rude hostess said all the tables are pre assigned and this is the one we are assigned. We chose not to eat there and left. We came up on 6/11/21 from Albquerque for the weekend. When we got to the hostess she was snippy and told us it would be. 30 minute wait. We left walked around and came back after 30 minutes. My mother in law asked if our table was ready and the hostess said she would go look very huffily. My mother in law who is hard of hearing told her we were on the list for 7:30.The hostess stopped walking turned around and said , "Do you want a table now or do you want me to wait until the time you had?" in a voice that was incredibly rude and implied my mother in law was an idiot. We sat down and enjoyed our meal, but I continued to see this hostess stomping around with a murderous look on her face. We visited Taos for the first time in 2010 looking for a quick meal and bypassed the steak entrees, maybe because of the higher price tag and opted to try the Elk Burgers. That meal was one of the food highlights of the trip. We returned to Doc Martin's this year and looked forward to the Elk Burgers, and they did not dissapoint. We walked a couple of blocks to reach the restaurant and got there about 15 minutes before it opened. Doc Martin's is inside the Taos Inn and adjacent to the inn's bar, which was packed this day because there was a huge crowd waiting to get into the Taos Solar Music Festival. Once the place opened, we were seated and served promptly. The window panes dividing the restaurant from the bar area isolated us from any barroom discussions and we enjoyed our Elk Burgers with gusto. Props to our waitress, who didn't know much about the beer they served on tap. She talked to the bartender and was able to tell me more about their selection and made an educated choice, which also did not disappoint. read more

This is another one of my favorite haunts when I come to Taos. The food was very good but not as good as I remember. My boyfriend tried the watermelon gauspacho which was disgusting. I had the roasted garlic and goat cheese appetizer which was fabulous. We both had the filet mignon with a red wine reduction - tasty but it is done better by another restaurant in town (see my other reviews). For dessert we had the tiramisu and lemon tart - both terrific. The service was absolutely amazing. Both the host and the waiter were top notch. While probably not my favorite anymore, this is still a good place for a tasty meal. read more

We went there on Christmas Day. They had special menu with limited food choice for dinner. Seems leave no choice for me... We were told to wait an hour for a table. We went to the bar across for a drink. Then we discovered the bar had a similar menu with Doc Martin's. Looked like the food came out from one kitchen. We ordered lamb leg, salmon and crispy calamari. They are all good. They have live music on the hotel lobby. Really impressive. I would say to sit in the bar (table was in the lobby actually) was even better than in the restaurant. read more

I had an awful experience here today which was really disappointing because I'd heard great things. I went in today looking for a place to have a beer and a snack. Their front patio was only half full so I thought I'd give it a shot, not knowing that they already had reservations. I waited my turn in line to speak with the hostess who was off seating someone, when an older woman came up, looked at me and decided to ignore me. She proceeded to talk to the men, emphasis on men, behind me instead of addressing me, a young woman. I may look younger than my age of 26, but I still deserve respect. The people behind me deferred to me because they knew I'd been in line, and they had just walked in whereas I'd already been waiting. Which means she had in fact seen me waiting and decided not to talk to me at all! She only got up because a group of middle aged men came in. I tried anyway to ask about a table for a quick drink and snack and she brushed me away and told me rudely that she wouldn't even talk to me because she needed to handle the reservations. I've worked in many restaurants and there is of course a polite way of doing this -- this was not how she acted. She made it clear that I was an inconvenience for her and that I was not someone she valued. I wonder if it would have been different if I looked like the men behind me. I decided not to wait even longer behind additional people to likely be told there was no room for me. I didn't appreciate her overwhelming negative attitude, and the way that she looked at me as if I was a small and irrelevant person. Definitely not good service best practice-- I hope they find people to be in charge of the front of house who don't insult young people just because they can or are stressed about getting reservations seated. I've worked extensively as a host and can say that type of behavior is a definitive way to lose customers, including me! Don't go here if you don't have a reservation, or if you're a young woman. You might be dismissed! Customer is clearly not always right here-- unless you're not a young woman. read more
