Every once in a while, you come across an experience that's so much better than you'd hoped and last night's boat cruise and dinner at Dockside 1953 was exactly that. First, a huge shout out to the staff here because our servers were absolutely lovely and worked hard to make our time there comfortable. We first arrived for drinks before a boat cruise on the Bahia Belle. My grape Margherita was not a favorite, but everyone else enjoyed their cocktails. After the cruise we returned and were seated for dinner (minus a reservation). It took a few minutes to get us sorted as there were many people looking to be seated. Our first table was okay, but they ran out of propane and we had to be moved. No problem, we didn't mind the shuffle, but other patrons may have been put off. The food here is excellent, in my opinion. For lighter fare we went with was the fantastic mushroom and goat cheese flatbread and we shared a wedge salad with bacon bits and bleu cheese dressing. They actually halved the salad for us and served it on two separate plates - I have never seen a restaurant do that before. TYVM! Our desserts will not soon be forgotten. Our affogato with stratciatella and espresso was the best I've ever had and our friends loved their butter pecan ice cream. To sit outside and enjoy this type of experience with a delicious bottle of cabarnet, well, it doesn't get much better than this and I truly hope I get a chance to return and do it all over again. read more

First off the manager Josh was excellent and Melanie was a great waitress. Basically this is the new and improved Bahia Resort with a much improved outside dinner area. The menu is limited and pricey for what you actually get. The food is descent and the beer and wine menu was excellent. Came here for dinner and lunch on two different days while I was staying the the resort. Lunch was $145 for 2 people with drinks, dinner was $238 for 3 people with drinks. Ordered the steak prime rib for dinner, asked for medium but got it cooked well with no pink in the middle. Also tried the fish tacos, the fish was good but the taco shell isn't your typical corn tortilla double wrap but a thin sliced corn tortilla deep fried. Doesn't the up the taco after the first bite. The cocktails were nice, but expensive for what you get. Should all be in the $12 range since top shelf liquor isn't used. Both occasions I had to eat another meal since the portion sizes were small, a side note the side order of fries were the best value and priced perfectly. I prefer the old seasoned batter fries from the old location, the new fries are basically the shoe string McDonald's style. The waiter staff and FOH service was on point. Average wait times were about 30 minutes for our main dishes to get brought out. read more

It was a delightful and relaxing time while visiting this place. We went for breakfast and made the great decision to sit outside. The temperature was perfect and the breeze brought in some nice ocean scent. Placing this restaurant beachside was a perfect decision. Getting past the atmosphere, the food was provided in generous portions and everything was very good. The staff was friendly and attentive. Katrina was our server and she made us feel very welcome. We walked here after a long morning at SeaWorld and it was an ideal stop! Ethan was our server and was incredible. He was extremely knowledgeable while also willing to double check with the kitchen to get the exact information we needed. His recommendations were very helpful and he was just a delight to be around. The tuna salad melt sandwich and fries were delicious! Dockside 1953 is the in-house restaurant of the Bahia beach resort in Mission Bay. Dinner cuisine is eclectic without a particular focus, and breakfast and lunch are classic American fare. The restaurant sits on the edge of the bay right next to the hotel beach, with a great view in the day time and at sunset. The outdoor area is protected by glass screens avoiding issues with wind. The menu selection is limited. For example breakfast egg dishes are only two omelets, one scramble. There are other breakfast options, but when we ate here I rarely had many options. Food is quite pricey for what is is. Quality is ok but not great, and costs are high. Service was good - friendly and prompt. Overall, the only reason to eat here is if you are staying at this resort, when it is very convenient. Even then I would go elsewhere in San Diego for dinner (many good choices also with views) and save this for breakfast and/or lunch as we did. Recommended only for guests/convenience. read more

Keep in mind my reviews are only based on the the breakfast menu, that I had the opportunity to eat 4 times on our stay. The "Dockside omelette" I had on the first morning was great, with eggs, tomatoes, bacon, onions and guacamole. The side of seasoned potatoes was delicious too. The next morning I had the pancakes and they were my favorite. Fluffy and crispy, with melted butter and syrup. (So good I had them 2 mornings in a row!) We stopped here for late dinner since it was close to the airport. Goal was to eat good food while waiting to pick up family coming into town. The cocktails were great but the food looked much better in pictures than they tasted. Our meals were cooked by someone who was very heavy handed with the salt! Steak Frites seemed like a popular dish so how can we go wrong? It was wrong - meat was was a bit on the chewy side and tasted like it was rolled and crusted with salt. The sauce was also way too salty. My scallops were also very salty, one was burnt. Sad since there was just 2. The polenta and French fries were cooked perfectly. We started our lunch with a hazy EPA from north park and a delicious Alpine IPA Duet. My husband and I shared half doz tasty oyster appetizer. We followed with the fish tacos (little over done) and the poke bowl. The quality of the ahi was mediocre. My lunch fell short of my expectations especially because we were so close to the ocean. The ahi was something I could have ordered at any inland supermarket. I would recommend trying the oysters and perhaps other menu items. Service was impecable! My family recently went for brunch for Mother's Day weekend. I'm giving 3 stars because the view from the patio is really nice and they accommodated large groups (which is great). I am taking away a star because the food is mediocre doesn't matter the price. The service is just ok, not terribly bad but not great. The biggest thing that left a bad taste was the price for brunch. Their website clearly states $50 per person for BRUNCH. When we ask about this option they stated it was $120 per person! WOW this is Las Vegas pricing. We looked at the food and it was not worth that at all. We were prepared to pay the $50 since it being a holiday weekend but not almost three times the price. Come for the vibes, the view and drinks but that's about it. Do yourself a favor and call ahead of time what the brunch price will be because it seems they can change it on a whim. read more

Awe, man, the waffles were worthy of a visit. The berries and whipped butter just exploded in my mouth.. I didn't even use syrup. The waffles were light and fluffy. The service was 5 star (Cyana), and everyone was welcoming and kind. The view of the private beach was also very lovely.. Parking tip: You do not need to park at the resort.
