i love dog haus so much. that cowboy dog is seriously my jam. it comes on these delicious buns and it's glorious. also combo it up and get some tater tots because those are better than the ones you grew up eating in the cafeteria that you remember so fondly. i have tried the sliders as well and they're on hawaiian bread and pretty damn good. but i always end up going back to the cowboy hotdog. also they serve fosselmans in their shakes here. Dog Haus...You had me at Hawaiian rolls but man did you spoil me with those tater tots. Went here with the girlfriend on a Wednesday night and it was not crowded at all. The place is very well decorated with neon lighting and even had an LA Dodgers style T-shirt with the words "Dog Haus" hanging above the cash register. The service was great and all the workers were very friendly. The gf ordered the downtown dog which was a haus dog wrapped in smoked bacon. But what really shined tonight were the tater tots and the burger. The tater tots were golden, crispy, and perfect. I ordered The Little Mule which came with a fried egg, pepper jack, and avocado. The bun is made up of four Hawaiian rolls put together so the TRICK is the cut it into 4 sliders. It makes it much easier to eat and gives you the option of trading sliders with your friends if they had a burger as well. Note: It's not on the menu but order the Chili Cheese Tater tots. They are worth trying at least once. Oh yeah, hit the gym after too because you'll definitely feel the extra weight you gained right when you get up and walk to your car. I feel that it is safe to say that Dog Haus is indeed at the center of a kind of "Hot Dog Renaissance" that is going on, and I would have to say that the Sooo Cali Dog straddles the razor edge between pointless, pretentious overindulgence that is simply gimmicky, and well thought out, layered comfort food elevated to an almost intellectual level. No, it's not sous vide hot dogs wedged between flash frozen yams, it's not intellectual in that way, but something like the Sooo Cali dog doesn't "just happen" in a midnight marijuana daze, even though it has the appearance of something that might have been so concocted. First of all, the thing is massive. The hot dog itself is a quarter pound of beef, and is amazingly tender, and juicy. It would be difficult to find a higher quality of hot dog. However, the gargantuan size of the Soo Cali dog is not all it has going for it. The flavors, and textures seem to uniquely balance each other in a strangely precise way. The leafy bitterness of the arugula that creates a fluffy bed for the dog to lie on, mixed with the pleasantly argillaceous avocado that acts as a kind of smear, which is then tamed by the irresistible crunch of the tempura fried onions, supported by the hint of sweetness of the toasted Hawaiian roll; all of which would be a very strange bite if not for the masterstroke of the jalapeño basil aioli. Somehow there is just enough of this heteroclite green goop that you feel a creamy, soft heat spiking through each bite. Somehow there is a bit of everything in every bite. Sweetness from the roll, bitterness from the arugula, delicate, savory, salty, and crunchy from the onions, dog, and avocado, and finally an aromatic kind of spiciness that hits the back of your throat. It is unlike any other hot dog, or really anything else you've ever eaten. This is a thing of beauty in the same way that Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans are; comfort elevated to the status of Art, though this thing could have been created by an engineer, or a chemist. There's also enough ruffage on the dog that it doesn't weigh you down, or feel particularly unhealthy, which is a desirable change of pace from how I usually feel after downing a few dogs off the grill. I immediately had to order another one. This place is amazing delicious, staff are very friendly. I had to take a picture so that I could come back when visit California. There is a great debate on who has the best dogs in Pasadena. I've tried both Dog Haus and Slaw Dogs and have to give it to slaw dogs. I find this place pricier and the selection of dog combos lacking. Not to mention they put everything on a Hawaiian roll which is really 2-3 of the square Hawaiian rolls that aren't split apart. The rolls fall apart and some of the combos just don't go. I had the little leaguer which is a chili dog with frittos. Chili was nothing to write home about and didn't mesh well with the Hawaiian rolls. Their fries are just ok and for the whole combo being close to $10 I was unimpressed. If you are hard up for a dog I saw take a drive up Lake and visit the Slaw Dogs. read more

Can't go wrong with any of the orders, but if you're pretty weak regarding oiliness in your food, I'd stay away from ordering too many side stuff like the chili cheese tots, as they could get you near the danger zone. I love the concept of using Hawaiian buns to pad the protein - you really get a different mix of flavors including sweetness, which is refreshing and tasty. I was so excited to try out their happy hour specials. We arrived at the place a few minutes before happy hour started and was just looking at the happy hour menu. Then my bf ordered almost everything from the happy hour menu. Later we noticed that they had charged us full price for everything and went to ask the manager about it. He pointed out that we had made the order 3 minutes before happy hour started and would not do anything to rectify the situation. We were pretty pissed because he knew perfectly well that we wanted to get the happy hour special, especially since we were looking at the happy hour menu right in front of him and ordered everything from that menu. Ok, I'm from Chicago and that's only to say I LIKE hot dogs. I'm not a snob about dogs this way or that way. I've had great versions all over the US. The low down is that Dog Haus is NOT "best of the wurst" or even close First the food: I ordered the regular with "snap" skin (vs snapless skinless?) and looked forward to simple doctoring myself: mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes. I laid off the peppers so I could fully taste the wurst. The Hawaiian roll is a bust. To me, the savory of the wiener and mustard is best countered by the sweetness of the relish and onions. The bun overpowered with sweetness and the bread can't stand up to the condiments making a "one-hander" impossible. The brief grilling of the wiener does it no favors... either boil it or fully grill as an option. Now for the service, or lack there of. Two of us visited at 2:30 on a weekday afternoon. Nobody in front of us, 4 guys "working", should be fast and simple. 2 regular dogs, tater tots, self-serve drinks...15 minutes!! One guy took the order and vanished to make a phone call outside, Another guy moved a garbage can, put tater tots in the fryer without washing his hands and vanished. A third guy came to make hot dogs after about 8 minutes and served the order that walked in after us first. Order guy came back and threw out the tater tots that were obviously burned. We got the second attempt several minutes after the dogs were up. A fourth guy sat at a bench doing nothing. He could have been filling ketchup dispensers because the one at our table was empty. Love this place. Came in and grabbed a menu since I was starving and the line was all the way to the door. Thank God for that! Looking at the menu I wanted everything on it. couldn't decide on the burgers or the hotdogs, they all sounded so good... Finally made our decision and ordered : B.L.A.S.T (hot dog)... it was sooooooo goood! it looks good, it tastes good, it smells good. nothing bad about this!!!! So glad i made that choice, but now it makes me want to go back and try everything else on the menu. BF ordered the Sooo Cali (hot dog) I didnt try it, but it looked really good and he enjoyed it! WHEN THEY COUNT US OUT WE GON DROP ANOTHER HIT I feel rather dull and listless and repetitive because all I do is hand out 3 stars. Does that make me miserly? A Scrooge, so to speak? I was here many eons back when pterodactyls terrorized the skies and Jane Fonda was still a lovely young woman. The inside looks just like the sign. Bold black and yellow and red colors, that make it somewhat modern, yet somewhat reminiscent of some bygone era that I was unfortunate enough to not be able to take part in. I just remember being confused because the burgers were served on King's Hawaiian rolls. Not sliders mind you. I mean the entire burgers were served atop 2 by 2 sweet rolls. So a total of 8 rolls goes into the burger. And I mean, that's cool and all if you like King's Hawaiian rolls. And sure, they're sweet. But the fatal flaw is that KING'S HAWAIIAN ROLLS WERE MEANT TO BE CUT UP, NOT LEFT TOGETHER IN A FOUR PIECE AMALGAMATION OF CONFUSION AND BREADINESS. THERE ARE VISIBLE CUT LINES IN THE BREAD. It makes the structural integrity of the burger entirely questionable and left entirely in Newton's hands (does that make sense?) Bottom line: the burgers fall apart easily and I'm not so sure if I want a sweet bread delicately enfolding my meaty, savory burger. Cloying is the word of the day here folks. No comment on the dawgs. They were just standard dogs in my opinion. Again, it was many eons ago, so forgive my appalling memory. Oh yeah the first line in my review is a reference to the fact that since I've come back ... a bunch of DOG HAUS'S have popped up in the span of maybe a year. We got em in swank places like OLD TOWN PASADENA (apparently) and ALHAMBRA. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm giddy. Next time I want a bonanza of king's Hawaiian rolls in my mouth, I know where to go to satisfy my fix. Otherwise, I'd recommend going somewhere else. read more

This place was fun. It was super busy when I went with my fiancee. I had the cheeseburger slider, and my lady had the sliders with the Hail Maria. They were both very delicious, especially with the Hawaiian roils as the bun. They were juicy, and seasoned exceptionally well. I tried a plain dog with mustard, which was the true test. I love how they're totally not stingy with their condiments, freshly diced tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, curry ketchup, and grey poupon are all available for self-serve. I brought my friend along during my second visit last wednesday and he already wants to go back. I also tried their knockwurst sausage which is served on a french roll and you get a choice of 2 toppings. I chose sauerkraut and onions, and I have to say that I no longer need to drive down to Wurstküche for my sausage fix. Service is very friendly here, I was offered free fries during my first visit but I had to regretfully decline because I wanted to finish my Soo Cali :9. Went back last friday 4/1/11 with ATG and let me tell you that this place never disappoints. One of a kind and the guy at the front is so cool. Ok, I may have to update my review on Pinks because this place is now my favorite Hot Dog shop.. I'm already drooling. This little hot spot is nearby PCC, so great for any students in the area looking for a quick snack. They have a pretty tasty menu of burgers and dogs, all of which you can customize to your liking. Sides like fries of all kinds, onion rings, sliders, etc. They have a regular fountain for soda but even cooler a little fridge of neat glass bottles, like cherry cream soda or Mexican diet coke (real sugar makes the difference!). I usually order the Down town dog, just like a street vendor dog but even more amazing because the buns they use for burgers and dogs is KINGS HAWAIIAN BREAD! *wipes drool off keyboard*. I also like the cheese fries, chili fries are a little too hearty and filling for me, but you could easily make a meal of them alone. Atmosphere is great, almost like a bar with bright neons and older rock coming from the speakers. All staff is super friendly, and they even have their own softball team (they sell t-shirts styled after Dodger gear, which I may have to buy because this place has stolen my heart). Indoor seating is available but if you come at a busy time you may have to share a table. Outdoor on the patio is nice when it isn't freezing out.
