Las Vegas Roll (top) Buffalo Roll (bottom)
Emily Y.

We came in on a Friday afternoon and they weren't busy at all. So we were promptly greeted, seated, received our drinks and menus. The restaurant is located in the corner of the plaza near Michael's. When you walk in, it looks small - but there's plenty of seating. We started with Crab Rangoons, where are cooked to order and had the perfect amount of filling. I ordered the Buffalo Roll and it was fresh, flavorful and loved the different textures (crispy topping, jalapeño bits, etc). My sister ordered the Las Vegas Roll and it was also super fresh and delicious. Our server was great and attentive as well, checking in frequently to ensure we were all set or if we needed anything. Overall, we'll definitely be back and recommend!

Burnt tempura - so bad

Wow. I was so excited to try Domo Sushi, and ventured to go across the bridge and try a new place, and regretted it pretty quickly. We were seated quickly and the service was excellent. No complaints there. I ordered the "premium" Chardonnay and it was not the wine represented on the menu. Not a chance and it was awful. So we continued on to order vegetable and shrimp tempura. Now, in my opinion, if you cannot do tempura....fresh... you shouldn't be preparing sushi. The photos show how absolutely awful the tempura was. My husband ate the shrimp (which tasted old and not fresh) because he was so hungry. I asked our server if the shrimp tempura was made to order and he said it was made one or two days ago. Well, that explains why the veggie tempura was burnt (it should be deep fried so that didn't make sense, well other than the horrible taste)...again, not made to order. It had to be out of a box and not freshly prepared. So, even though wanted give Domo a try, we went back across the bridge to have an amazing meal at Flying Fish. We don't need to experiment again. And as we were leaving I noticed the health department score and it was "okay". I don't want an okay score for sushi and it matched our experience.

I love Domo as they have excellent Chinese and Japanese cuisine! The food is always freshly made and the services is great. They can accommodate groups and have a great ambiance inside. Conveniently located in uptown, you have the ability to shop and get a great meal. My kids rave about the orange chicken and friend rice. We'll be back soon!

3/12 sushi rolls

I dropped in on a whim since I do travel therapy work and this happened to be close by. I was looking for something different and ended up getting two lunch specials: the chicken teriyaki with gyoza and three half sushi rolls.Everything was amazing! It was pretty slow inside, so I was served quickly. The miso soup was really good and had a different kind of tofu than I'm used to it wasn't just the standard soft cubes, but still very, very good. The salad was also good. The chicken teriyaki was amazing, though I will say the portions were a little smaller than what I'm used to, even for a lunch special. The sushi rolls were great, too. My least favorite was the one with the white sauce (forgive me, I don't remember the names of the ones I tried!), but overall it was a great experience. I have no complaints and would definitely be back!

Great Japanese/Chinese/Korean food in Gig Harbor! Dinner - ordered bento boxes, salmon, and 2 rolls - Gig Harbor and the Cali roll. Everything was fresh, however the tempura was way overcooked and tasted like it was re-fried (oh well)! The rolls were freshly prepared. Service - good. Ambience- very clean, I would definitely return

Takoyaki (they suck) tempura (was good) ventó box (it sucks)

Second review. My original review was of 2 stars Absolutely garbage and disgraceful way of cooking Japanese food First of all in a serious note Take NO skill to actually cook takoyakies See my picture They buy them frozen and over cook them Not only that they use the sauce from tonkapsu sauce which is for katsu Takoyaki sauce which is simply made out of mentsuyu, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and sugar If they are using frozen takoyaki all they got to do microwave the food. It's much better than fried or over cooking it lol... just a joke of place - waste of 9 dollars I got a bento box Deep tempura were good Salad box look like it had some decently fresh lettuce Chicken was cold and got practically nothing California roll was okay. Rice felt nice and soft Gyoza omg lol one more time FROZEN BUT IS ok they don't got time so they deepfried it Look. Gyzon even tho is frozen Super easy to make and cook too Just grill the bottom and steam the top! Grill the bottom and steam the top! ONE MORE TIME grill the bottom and steam the top! Worse 40 bucks I ever put out in a sushi / Japanese place I know most of you people here in gig harbor are rich And won't listen to me but stop being like that you deserve better so let them know so they can train properly

Came at lunch, seated quickly, food was so good. Everything was really fresh and they have really good lunch specials.

Great sushi! I like to make reservations so we can have a booth, otherwise it's a gamble since the restaurant is small.

5 out of 5 AYCE for sure! First time visiting Sumo Sushi & Grill last weekend with my family and we…read morehad such a great experience! (FYI, for weekends and holidays, you'll be charged the dinner price all day). Since it was our first time, our server kindly explained how the ordering system works. You place your sushi orders through one phone with a limit of 15 items every 15 minutes. Drinks and refills are recommended to be ordered directly through your server so they don't take up item slots. Even if you order less than 15 items, you still wait the 15 minutes before placing another round. It sounds a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple! One of the cutest parts of the experience was having our food delivered by a little robot server with a cat face. Just make sure to grab the food from the section glowing blue so you don't accidentally take another table's order. Super fun and honestly memorable! By the time we were getting full, my family joked that the cat face looked menacing, because we were hoping no more food would be brought to our table lol. The orders don't all arrive at the same time and some can be delayed, so I'd suggest somewhat trying to keep track of your orders if you don't want to go overboard. The sashimi was delicious and the portions are HUGE, so definitely pace yourself because they do charge for leftovers. My son got a little too excited and overordered, so we ended up paying the leftover fee. However, I was genuinely impressed that Sumo Sushi actually allows you to take leftovers home, even with the fee included. I mean, you'll have to pay the fee either way, but I've never been to an AYCE sushi restaurant that allowed leftovers as takeout before. I really respect how serious they are about reducing food waste. They also have a small buffet section you can grab already prepared/cooked food from while waiting for your sushi orders. My absolute favorites were the miso soup, seafood boil(?), and the tempura fish that lives rent free in my head (I should have asked if I could order that fish for takeout!). They also had other hot foods, meats, and seafood options that were tasty. The dessert section was more basic (flan, jello, fortune cookies, etc.), so I skipped dessert this time (besides the fortune cookies hehe). The service, in general, was fantastic. While we were dining, a child nearby celebrated a birthday with their family and the staff went ALL OUT singing happy birthday with light-up decorations and so much energy. It was adorable and way more effort than most restaurants put in. My only small critique is that the "French Fries" listed on the menu are actually sweet potato fries. They tasted good, and I normally like sweet potatoes, but it definitely caught us off guard because it wasn't what we expected. When we left, the staff kindly said goodbye to us, including an older gentleman near the door who consistently seemed focused on customer service and even asked if we wanted condiments packed with our leftovers. We had such a lovely experience and I would consider Sumo Sushi as probably one of the better AYCE sushi spots in the area. We'll definitely be back!

Below average. In…read morefact, if I had visited the Sumo AYCE in Tacoma before I tried the one in Burlington, I doubt I would have ever walked into Burlington's Sumo. It was Father's Day, so of course it was busy. But the food was subpar, it came out in indefinable intervals, and we weren't really checked on at all. The sushi - when it finally showed up - was good, but the grilled beef was fatty and greasy. The Chicken 'Katsu' was soggy. Some items - despite taking what seemed like forever to arrive - felt and tasted like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Horrible experience for $100. We won't be back.
