Walking into Donna Kaye's Café feels like arriving at a family party warm, welcoming, and instantly comforting. Yes, the space is a little tight, but it's filled with care and attention in every corner. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted with coffee and given time to look over the menu. There were so many great options that I didn't know what to choose! I ended up ordering the omelet with both red and green pork, and my date went for the chilaquiles with the same combo. The meat was tender, flavorful, and tasted like a true family recipe. I also ordered a Michelada, and the mix was delicious. The staff was incredibly kind, and it seemed like most of the guests were regularwhich says a lot about how loved this place is. I definitely recommend Donna Kaye's if you're looking for homestyle food that feels like it was made just for you.

This place needs to be on everyone's list for breakfast! Amazing food! Amazing service! Super chill inside with the server spreading joy and conversation that just makes you feel at home! I ordered the Costillas en chile roja con nopales with eggs and hash browns on the side... O. M. G. This dish had SABOR! Our server (maybe the owner?) told us it was her mom's recipe and even brought a sample of the chicharron in the same salsa. Wow! We will definitely be back for more home cooked meals! This is a must try people!

My service was fast and good. My food was better. Too much to eat it all, eggs were cooked to perfection. Biscuits and Gravy was good, but I waited to long to eat it and it got cold. Loved the decor.

Excellent service and food. This place fees like an old southern diner. We went around 9am and there were 5 other customers but was packed by the time we finished, with 10-15 people waiting outside for a table. Definitely recommend!

We went in Sunday afternoon. A party of five. It was packed inside and so we had to sit outside and keep company with the buzzing flies. The seating outside seems to be an afterthought, with hard seats and picnic tables. The service was great. Prices are high but I suppose that is normal since we are close to downtown Bakersfield. The food is that darned good. I had the veggie omelette and hash browns, good stuff. I also got a full stack of pancakes to share withy husband and son. My pancake was so good that I didn't even need syrup. This is a solid establishment.

Great Breakfast and Lunch spot. Cozy dining room. Friendly experienced staff, and tasty food options. Haven't had anything I didn't enjoy. Their secret pancakes with ham folded into the batter are a nice little indulgence. Variety of options and quality ingredients make them a nice locals spot to enjoy your Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch time munchies needs

Great little place. It brings back memories of days gone by. We had the chicken fried steak breakfast. Delicious. The gravy was on of the best I've ever tasted next to my moms. Stuffed toast was a real surprise. Fresh fruit inside that was ripe. The bacon was crispy like I ordered and the eggs were perfect. I like how you add your own salt and pepper. There was enough food we have another breakfast tomorrow. Highly recommend you try this sweet spot. I don't drink black coffee but their coffee was that good

Have been wanting to try this place since moving to Bakersfield and finally had the chance to stop by and so glad I did. Place is small but quaint and charming. Staff was friendly and helpful as they had many choices to pick from the menu. I went with the country fried steak and eggs with hash browns and biscuit and gravy. Everything was so flavorful and tasty and loved the gravy. Steal was cooked to perfection and eggs made just like I like them. Will definitely add this place to my rotation. Next time I'll have to try their French dip

Donna Kaye is excellent food and varietys I go to eat there every Sunday take our top service..

    Simply amazing!!

The restaurant has an open kitchen concept, which we were actually excited about since you can see everything being prepared. Unfortunately, that's where things went wrong. We were seated right in front of the kitchen, and my wife began noticing some concerning food safety issues from one of the cooks. She observed him handling ready to eat, cooked food with his bare hands, including picking up avocado from her California omelette so another cook could add cheese underneath. Shortly after, she saw him rub his nose and continue working without washing his hands. The final straw was watching him grab a pinch of scrambled eggs from a plate on the hot line and eat it with his fingers. At that point, we were completely turned off. We had already placed our order, but there was no way we were going to eat after seeing that. My wife went to the counter and let the server know what she had witnessed, and we left. It's disappointing because the menu looked great and we were really looking forward to trying this place. I'm not sure how this behavior isn't being noticed or addressed by other staff, but based on what we saw, it didn't seem like a one-time thing. I hope management takes this seriously, reviews their cameras, and reinforces proper food safety standards.

The vibes in the new space are absolutely immaculate. There is so much more energy here, and the decorations are incredibly cute. It's the perfect backdrop for a killer meal. The Main Event: This time around, I went with the En Fuego Burger. This beast is loaded with a chile-spiced beef patty, pepperjack, sharp cheddar, thick-cut bacon, chipotle mayo, pepper relish, pickled jalapeños, and a mountain of fried jalapeños + onion strings. The Flavor Profile: This burger delivers on every level, but those fried onion strings were to die for. For the side, I got the sweet potato fries, which are served as big, thick-cut wedges. They come paired with a duo of spicy ketchup and a marshmallow dipping sauce. Switching between the two was amazing, the marshmallow sauce actually makes the fries feel like a dessert. The Drink: To wash it all down, I ordered the basil lemonade, and omg, I need to figure out how to recreate this at home. It's exactly what it sounds like, crisp, refreshing lemonade with a perfect herbal basil finish. The Verdict: If you loved their old spot, the new location takes everything to the next level. Between the upgraded atmosphere, the dessert-like fries, and that refreshing lemonade, I will absolutely be coming back here again and again.

Their hype was definitely due to the 'aesthetic'. Nothing is really outstanding to me. The drinks are such a let down, the coffee is borderline yuck.. do not recommend. Everything is quite unmemorable. Service is whatever, sometimes mid, sometimes bad. Nothing outstanding. Ambiance.... well... this one has been replicated one too many times. The food is heavily missing flavor, the hummus is disgusting. I can't believe they call that thing hummus, it's an insult to actual dish.. it's almost like it was trying to imitate the real dish, but failed terribly in even attempting to. Their pizza tasted like play-doh and looked very pale. Smitten is at least consistent with one thing, which is their staple: no flavor. One of the breaking points for me was being served food that had someone's HAIR. The restaurant is very expensive for the poor experience they have to offer. I stopped recommending them a long time ago.
