The best breakfast in town, hands down. Breakfast burrito with chorizo and Diablo salsa was perfect. The mix of chorizo egg and potato was great, each bite had some of each. Sounds weird but this is my pinnacle. Hot link omelette was great too. Don't forget o try the biscuits and gravy too. Light biscuits with peppery country gravy truly taste homemade. Stayed overnight in Bakersfield on my way home from San Diego headed to Vallejo. Decided to have a meal before I got on the road. Checked Yelp and discovered this place was just down the street, soooo... This restaurant epitomizes home cooking. Friendly waitstaff...excellent food, good sized portions and reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? I highly recommend this place if you are in the area and will definitely return. I don't like giving negative reviews....but in our opinion... this meal didn't live up to all the great reviews here. That was the reason we came here for the first time....there was so much to be disappointed by. We sat in the "patio" and it was really cold due to the big air conditioner in the corner blowing air our way and moving the two signs on the wall. Needless to say, this made our warm food get colder quicker. My meal was ok....no real complaints, the coffee was good at $3 bucks a pop. Hubby got the wrong order which they removed from our bill. so we found this place by doing our typical search of yelp and it was highly rated. We were quickly sat down in a booth space and one of the servers was prompt about asking us what we wanted to drink. We ordered three coffees and some water, and it was all brought out nice and fast with the coffee being not too strong, but still good and fresh. I ordered the Donna K omelette with country style, potatoes, and toast. I happen to be with my mother at this particular food adventure, and she ordered the same thing with hashbrowns, and what she thought was a biscuit. However, the menu did clearly say biscuit and gravy. The food was brought out not super fast but fast enough that I didn't feel that I was getting hungry and anxious, the server placed my omelette in front of me with the biscuits next to me that were covered in gravy. My mother quickly pointed out that she didnt want gravy on the biscuit. The server smiled with no hesitation, said don't worry I'll bring you back a biscuit with no gravy. I pointed out to my mother, that the menu did say your choice of toast or biscuit AND gravy. Halfway through my meal I realize that the reason the biscuits and gravy were place next to me was because I had the Donna Kaye omelette with hashbrowns what she had ordered so they did accidentally transpose our order, but that was quite all right. The hashbrowns were delicious and I was envious of my mother, who had my country fried potatoes which she didn't eat.. lol. I asked if I could have a side of hot sauce and Lupe. Our server said how hot and I said hot. In fact, I said so hot, but pretend that I'm not a gringo lol. To my surprise and delight the hot sauce was amazingly good, as well as the omelette was top shelf. Lupe, our server was pleasant, cracked jokes, and seem to enjoy her job. I highly recommend just make sure they don't transpose your order! Ha ha ha The ambience was typical of a smallish dive breakfast joint where we sat in the booth with coffee cups that were faded due to being washed for the last three years but we didn't mind. First time in Bakersfield and going here was the right choice. Extremely good food that put me into the mood to even tip 30%(99.99% of the time its usually only a 15%) Had the italian sausage and cheese stuffed omelette and the melting cheese with the egg just made the sausage 100x better. The side of fried potatoes/biscuit n gravy weren't particularly something I 'loved' but the serving size of just the omelette was more than enough to fill me up. Likewise, friend having the hamburger steak also enjoyed it and couldn't finish all his sides as it just comes with too much. Would love to eat here again if I'm back in Bakersfield. The only downside would be the limited seating and parking but I'm sure there are certain time periods you can come to get around it. read more

What earned them the 5 stars was the service. A few decades ago my grandmother first took me here. Everything on the menu is delicious. Their Biscuits and Gravy are to die for. You can Cover & Smother any savory dish with their gravy. If you're a coffee drinker, expect never to see the bottom of your cup. The servers are always bubbly & positive. The place looks like it used to be a used car lot, but it's nicely converted. I ordered through Grubhub the other morning since I had an early meeting for work and did not feel like cooking. I am giving the restaurant 4 stars because what I had was really delicious however it was not what I was expecting once it was delivered. I am not sure if it is the restaurant or grubhub that has the picture wrong for what I ordered. I ordered the Spanish omelette and through the picture through grubhub on yelp I thought I was getting an omelette that was 1/2 chili verde and 1/2 Chile Colorado (i attached a screenshot of what i thoughti ordered). What I got was an omelette with what seemed like salsa and peppers on it. It definitely was not chili verde or chili Colorado. I also got country potatoes and biscuits and gravy as sides. All came deleivered hot and it was still scrumptious, which is why i still gave 4 stars. It was just not specifically what i thought i was ordering. I wish i knew the name of what the picture of the omlette was that i saw because I'd still really like to try it one day. I am a sucker for good chili verde. read more

I've eaten here twice and both times were great experiences. First time was tri tip omelette for breakfast, second time was fried catfish for lunch. Omelette was packed with tri tip and was very tasty. Catfish was seasoned well and not over cooked. What I really appreciate about this place is how friendly everyone is. Definitely a mom/pop feel. The food is very good. I stopped in the morning on the way to work to buy breakfast for myself and my coworkers and the portions are large. I had the divorced omelette. The rest of the crew had vegetarian omelette, meat lovers omelette, Philly omelette and chicken and waffles. The waitress was very help full and very nice.
