I came here by accident LoL! I got gas at 7-eleven and then i saw this place so i checked Yelp. I went inside to see if i can try their Red Velvet but they already sold out that time. The guy behind the counter was so nice! I tried their Crullers? and Cronut and despite not looking as yummy as the red velvet both actually tasted great! The doughnut inside are soft and not too sweet, it's perfect with coffee. Customer service is awesome and I don't think i'll mind driving all the way to Santee just to order doughnuts from them. :-) I'm glad i found this gem. read more

Ok I had to give this place another go before I left the area! I was so impressed my first visit that I had to see if this service was always so amazing! Not only was the service amazing, but the doughnuts, coffee and the cronut is OUTSTANDING! I actually went to Starbucks on my way ( more out of habit than anything else) I didn't even drink my Starbucks coffee! I ordered a new one from Donutopolis!!! I am a Starbucks lover but the coffee here is just so much better! And the food is once again, unbelievably delicious! So glad we found this place! I won't come back to this area without another visit! So delicious and worth it! I would say as a tip to the owner, YOU SHOULD CHARGE MORE! The Cronut is so cheap!! Donutopolis is my favorite donut shop in San Diego! We live near the old location in Santee and just visited his new shop. The owner is such a kind and wonderful person and the donuts are fresh and so delicious. He makes fun donuts for kids, birthday donuts that are gigantic to replace cakes, and a wonderful variety of donuts including gluten free and vegan! Worth the 20 minute drive from home to have his quality of sweet treats anytime. read more

Over all I really enjoyed Donutopolis! Donuts taste, texture and selection was 5/5. I got a bacon egg and cheese which was decent but could have used more of everything inside the sandwich. This store is a THIEF. There was a glitch in the system and somehow there was a duplicate order which I was not aware about until I spoke with the worker/owner there at Donutoplis. He mention that there were two of the same orders and I told him that is incorrect and it's only for one. He understood. Well today the order came and two people from Grubhub delivered it. I called to Donutopolis and spoke to the same person. I said why is there two deliveries when we talked about this and cleared it? He said well the grub hub people came so I gave to them. Knowing darn well that it was just one order. I said, you know this is only one order and we cleared this out the day I placed the order. Why would you still prepare the 2nd duplicate order? This place is shady, crooked all for an extra $250 dollars. Our company will no longer order from you ever. I hope all business do not place order with this place. They did not even slice the bagels that I asked. He was in a rush to get the second order out, that they forgot to cut the bagels. Bad shady service. Never ever again!!!!! This place was super friendly to me when I stopped in here to get a quick bite. They have an actual espresso machine, which is pretty atypical for a donut shop. I do not eat typically eat donuts but I was curious about what a Cronut tasted like. So when I went in here I asked if they have Cronuts, he said yes and pointed to it. I purchased two but something did not seem right to me. So I googled what a cronut looks like and sure enough what he sold me was NOT IT. Picture one shows what he gave me, a simple croissant deep-fried and glazed. That's it. The second picture is what a cronut actually should look like. 3.5 stars. Yelp won't let me. The Overall: Whoever is making the donuts is talented no doubt, but Donutopolis struggles with upkeep and customer service. The Minutia: - The specialty donuts all tasted fresh, and had excellent presentation. The bear claw and PB&J are stand outs. I think Mary's has a better maple bacon though. - They have a solid selection of 5-6 hot coffees. I saw a handful of syrups too, but didn't partake. - The girl with the glasses that works here just sits there playing on her phone when she could be cleaning or brewing coffee or something. She's borderline abrasive and standoff-ish. Customer service doesn't come natural to her. Any sense of warmth in the customer/employee relationship is there because you chipped in 70%. - There was an older gentleman worker that was cleaning the windows when we came in, so at least this place has one employee with work ethic. - This place looks like a lot of love went into the original design. It's cute and quaint, but it appears there are problems with the upkeep. It appears the rain showed no mercy to the roof (via the hole in the ceiling). I saw discarded posters draped over a cooler. I spotted a forgotten framed picture leaning against the glass as we came in. I saw an employee's jacket and purse on a kitchen counter in plain sight. Meh. read more

Recently, one of my friends took me out for donuts and coffee to Donutopolis. I do like donuts, but I'm definitely not one to go out for donuts on a regular basis. Donutopolis is located in a small strip mall in Santee...you could easily drive by without noticing. When I walked in, I really liked the the cute decorations and the hand-painted paintings of some of their specialty donuts. The woman at the counter wore a cute pink Donutopolis baseball shirt...so cute that they should sell them! As far as the donuts, they have all the usual kind...cake donuts, yeast-raised, and donut holes. The specialty donuts looked best to me. I chose a PB&J. It was a twist on a jelly donut with creamy peanut butter on top. I took a strawberry shortcake donut to go for the next day. That one was really good, with fresh strawberries and cream, it was more like a pastry. The only reason that I don't give five stars, is that the coffee was a bit boring...not a great selection and no espresso machine. It is a cute, sort of hip donut shop. and good coffee would really make a difference. read more

Francisco (the owner) puts his heart and sole in his Donutopolis. I really wanted to love this place. The seating area is very cute and girly and the employees were very friendly. It felt very trendy and posh, something you wouldn't typically see in a corner store stop. When we walked in, they greeted us right away. There really wasn't that much of a selection, as we were told we just missed the morning rush (being Valentine's day). The donuts are priced a little higher, but they do carry flavors I've never had before, like the PB & J donut. The old fashioned had a cinnamon aftertaste to it, something I didn't find very appealing. The sprinkled donut frosting crumbled, rather than stick to the donut, which made it very messy to eat. The cookie butter doughnut was amazing as well!!! The young lady that helped me out was super nice, def might have found my new favorite doughnut spot! Have walked by this place many times when walking my dog around Mira Mesa, but had never been. I promised the team at work I would bring in donuts and decided to head a little out of my way to buy here vs. the major donut place on MM Blvd. I have to tell you that the team was VERY impressed and all asked where I got them. I live in La Mesa, this place is Santee & I work in Del Mar... twice I've gotten up at 6:15 am for work just so I could make the 15 minute detour to go here on my way in (& my coworkers LOVE me for it!). Now they keep asking & I tell them I can't get up that early regularly. I have 4 guys remodeling my house right now & have brought them a dozen a couple times & now they keep dropping hints about bringing them some more. They have the BEST of my all time favorite donut... a maple bar w/ bacon. The bacon is freshly cooked & oh so crispy. One morning I got here while they were still making the morning batch & the smell of fresh maple filled my car on the way to work... a LONG 25 minute drive. I could still smell the maple a couple hours later at work when going back for a double dip (I did pay for them after all). My 2nd favorite, the glazed raised, is amazing! Soft, but dense & gooey. Not a single donut here is bad & everyone I've introduced them too has fallen in love w/ them. Homer Simpson would be in ecstasy here! The owner is one of the nicest & genuinely friendly people I've met at a business. You can see he takes real pride in his skill as a donut master & a small business owner. I am pretty bummed about this experience. My donuts were good, and they had gluten free ones, which is huge, but I bought 6 donuts and when I came home, I found that 3 of them weren't the flavors I chose. This wouldn't have been a huge deal if she didn't change the glazed old fashioned and strawberry cruelers both to maple, which considering the only other one my husband got was a maple bar left him with three maple donuts, which was serious flavor overkill. Worse than that though, she mixed up my toddler's donut. It was his first trip to a donut store and he was so excited to get to pick his own and he kept even saying "I want the pink one!" He was so disappointed to have to eat a different one when he got home. I'm kicking myself for not watching her to make sure she got the right ones, but I was trying to keep an eye on my son instead.
