Ah... finally great Tex-Mex here in the East Bay for a good price as well! Having studied at UC Davis back in the day, I was excited to hear of Dos Coyotes bringing it's delicious recipes over from the Sac area and hoping they wouldn't change a thing. Low and behold, it's the same great food, same great flavors, but just much closer to home now! Having dined in the Davis branch too many times to count, you can't go wrong with any order here. My favorite would have to be the seafood paella burrito. Throw a little of the green crack sauce on it, and you're all good to go. It's good food, a good price point, and great service. I was really excited to try this place out as I've heard great things about it! I ordered the Navajo nachos, without beans, to go. While I was waiting for my order, I got my sauces and they have a HUGE variety of sauces! The ones I tried were really good and if I came back here, it would be because of the sauces ! My order was ready and I was about to walk out the door when I looked at my order and they forgot the toppings! It was just nachos with cheese and meat. So when I went to go ask for the toppings, which was guac and sour cream, they gave it to me on the side, a super small serving of it. I asked them to put more on top of the nachos because I didn't pay $10+ for a small spoon of guac... I'm glad I checked but I was surprised they missed it because I came at around 3pm and they weren't even busy! The nachos were okay, I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese they used. Overall, I definitely would check my to go order to make sure they didn't miss anything! I won't be getting the nachos again but I'll be back to try other things on the menu because the self-serve sauces were delicious! Also - on a side note, there weren't any trash cans for customers in the restaurant. I asked someone and they said they would take my trash for me. My wife and I basically fell in love at the Dos Coyotes in Davis when we went to school at UCD. We were very excited, yet nervous, when we learned that there would be a Dos opening up in our home town. Nervous because what if it didn't hold up to our memories of the many, many times we have gone. I am excited to announce that the San Ramon Dos reminds us so much of the great food we remembered in our college days. My wife's go-to meal is the Southwest Steak Burrito, and she has gone through quite a few in the number of years we have been going to Dos. She knows if it tastes different since that flavor is etched into her mind. She was excited to learn that the burrito tastes just like she remembers. For those of us UC Davis Aggies out there, feel free to come to this Dos. It is just as good as those in Davis. P.S. - To the good people at Dos: I almost docked a point off this review because of the absurdly small spoons you provide for us customers at your salsa bar. The small size, I know, is to discourage waste by limiting how much salsa we can take at once, but it also creates an unnecessary line at the salsa bar. So this place is pretty new and you can tell. When I walked in I was greeted by a line of people so I guess that's a good sign. The menu is simple to read and pretty self explanatory. I ordered the tres taco basket with steak and decided to dine in to get a feel for the place. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is perfect for our upcoming hot weather. Ordering was simple and the staff is really nice and fast, so even though there were people ahead of me I only waited a few minutes to order. The food was good but I wasn't wowed by it. I have a few recommendations that I think management should consider: -since the staff delivers the food to the tables I noticed plates are just sitting in the kitchen waiting to be served. When I got my tacos my plate was cold and my food was warm. You should always serve food hot so consider warming lamps for the food to sit under -have a separate line for people who just wanna order a drink. It's nice you have $5 margaritas but no one really wants to wait in that long line just to order another drink. Or consider pitchers -put napkin dispensers at each table. You don't wanna have to leave your table and food just to walk across the restaurant and get napkins. -restock your sauces frequently, especially the pico de gallo. When I got here the mild pico was pretty much liquid (see pic) -consider more registers. Right now the line is out the door and going around the building because there are only two registers at the front (I got here just in time to miss the wait lol) Overall I give this place a 3 and would come back because despite my talks being warm/cold they tasted really good. Came here for lunch on Saturday with my family. I ordered the most popular burrito, the Border Burrito, with steak in bowl form. We also ordered the chicken taquito appetizer. The bowl itself was so incredibly filling, we didn't even need to order the appetizer! The first time I tried the Border Burrito, I got it with pulled pork, and I can say that the steak tasted much much better than the pulled pork, and both meats were the same price! I loved the free salsa bar, as it included free limes and lemons, as well as onions and jalapeños. I added onions, lemon, and the hot pico de gallo to my bowl to tailor it to my own taste, which made my experience even that much better. My only complaint is that the food took awhile to come out, but other than that, this is a perfect lunch spot to bring your family. All in all, Dos Coyotes is the perfect lunch spot! read more

This newly opened place is pretty busy. I stopped by for some adult beverages and some Chips and Salsa. They had replicated the ambiance and decor of their Concord Willows location. The main difference is that they don't have a full bar, but they do serve Margaritas and have 3 beers on tap. The tequila they use is Hornitos and for $5.00, they pour 2/12 ounce pours. I was able to talk to the Executive Chef and he explained that they do about 1,200 covers a day. The grill man was quite busy to say the least when I visited. Another curious fact I didn't know is that they make everything fresh everyday and they cater events. I am a fan of this establishment and they definitely have the freshest salsa bar around. read more

We had a fundraiser for our preschool here. First off, thanks to Dos Coyotes for allowing a fundraiser to go for 3 days. Very convenient and gave so many of us a chance to get in there. There are many things that I like and enjoy about it this place. So off we go, Amigos: it's spacious, it's family friendly, the staff are friendly ( great mix of polite young people at the cashier) ,the line keeps on moving in an orderly fashion, they have a great menu- and they have specialty/seasonal options, delicious sounding unique margaritas, great non-alcoholic beverage choices too. BUT- most importantly- this is Tex Mex without and overbearing cumin/Chipotle/smoky flavor. It's Texmex done right. FINALLY! I had the adobe salad and it was filling, tasty, and very healthy. A very generous amount of black beans, crunchy jicama, just the right amount of chicken, it was great. The kids devoured their chicken and rice plates. I took a bite of the rice, it tasted mild, savory, and homemade. All of the food was fresh, and not one speck tasted processed. I read one yelp review that claimed that the food was too bland, obviously you have not tried the hot salsa, it was H O T! Really good, though. I also thoroughly enjoyed the tortilla chips. The acoustics make it pretty loud, but it adds to the fun and busy feel. I almost forgot to mention that the decor is also texmex and cute. Lizards on the ceiling were a hit with the kids. I'm not normally a fan of Tex Mex, and now I've changed my mind. The asparagus quesadilla with roasted pumpkin seeds sounds so delicious. Ok, I've tried Dos Coyotes once more and they have improved. In particular, the online ordering/in store pickup system is much better now. They had my order ready when I arrived, at the time they said the order would be ready. The quality and quantity of the food remains good...not the best Mexican food around, but perfectly acceptable and better than some of the local fast Mexican food places. The only improvement I'd make to the system is that they should have a dedicated area for online order pickups-as it is, you have to wait in line with people placing new orders, and that can add 5-10 minutes at lunch hour. It did in my case today, and when I finally got back to my office the burrito was once again cold. read more

We had an exceptional week eating at Dos Coyotes in San Ramon during our Fundraiser week to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. We sincerely appreciate having the opportunity to hold this fundraiser, and all of the people we invited told us how much they loved the food at Dos Coyotes, some had never been there before and the fundraiser gave them a chance to try it out. They all said they would definitely return to Dos Coyotes. We went every day this past week and tried something different.I liked Bobby's Crispy Tacos, the Southwest Side Salad, the California Fish Tacos with Shrimp, the Pineapple Chicken Quesadillas on a special menu were great! The Salsa Bar has the best variety, the Tomatillo salsa is my favorite and the very fresh Pico de Gallo. I also enjoyed the Border Burrito and the Spinach Salmon Salad. The restaurant is so clean and welcoming. Jeff, one of the managers, was so welcoming to our friends, friendly and helpful, always with a smile on his face, he gave us the best customer service! Employees are great at helping with menu decisions, you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I was excited to try Dos Coyotes because I'd heard it was this fantastic place that served great Mexican food, but I think the place is overrated. I enjoyed the lunch and it was good, but nowhere near four or five star good. We had chips and guac, a taquitos plate, and mixed taco plate. When I think Mexican food, I think spicy and the food at Dos Coyotes was nowhere near spicy. Fairly standard fast Mexican food joint. No more, no less. Nice atmosphere but the lack of attention to the salsa bar is a bit concerning. The couple times that I've been there I've had to ask someone to replenish the salsa. Why is no one monitoring this? The part baffles me are the tiny tiny ketchup cups for salsa. What exactly is the purposed of using small cups? Salsa is meant to share....if served in a small salsa bowl. The cups are so small that the chip has to be broken in half. When asked for a bigger cup/bowl, we were told that they could not accommodate this. What! On a more positive note, the food presentation and quality is awesome but that is where it ends. The taste lacks true authentic mex flavor and is a bit bland. Wife and I had to add salt and pepper to enhance the flavor. I really don't enjoy doing that. read more

One thing I love about this cafe, is that it feels like a family run restaurant, where the employees aim to please and are cheerful and friendly. I've been maybe 8-10 times and it's been this way every time. I'm always in search of a great crispy taco, and Dos Coyotes does them well. They fry the corn tortilla with the meat, just like they should IMO. The Bobby's Crispy tacos come with chicken or beef and they're topped with lettuce, cojita cheese, onion/cilantro mix and salsa. Unfortunately I'm cilantro averse, but they are happy to leave it off. The salsa bar offers several types of salsa as well. It's a great place for large groups and kids, and also has outdoor seating. The floors are concrete, so expect a good level of noise, but you can head out to the outdoor patio if you you prefer to hear everything your companions say. The place is clean, including the bathrooms, so that indicates pride in ownership to me. Overall a very nice venue for Mexican food, some New Mexico style. read more

Cute little Mexican cafe. The salads are decent. I look forward to trying tacos next time. The guacamole is a little too creamy, and I don't love the chips, they're a little thin. Overall, it's not a bad lunch spot, and it's not terribly pricey either. The staff is very friendly also. It gets pretty busy at noon, but we breezed right through the line at 1pm. Ordering: It was quite simple, they had menus in the front and a line going out and two cashiers. Very friendly staff and you could customize your orders, it's all made fresh! The wait: We waited for our food for about 5-10 minutes which was not long at all. The food: It was made fresh and the portions were not small at all. The chicken was really fresh, the only down side of this was how oily the meal was. My hands were insanely greasy, but I would have to say the flavor of every side went very well together. I have nothing negative to write about this place other than say the negative reviews may be the local competitors like Baja Fresh, Chipotle, Taco Bell and others that can not compete with this place. First time here at 6pm on a Saturday night. The place was loud, mostly because there were tons of kids running around. Definitely a family friendly restaurant. You order at the counter and then sit down. They have a salsa bar with some good salsas. One downside is that your chips arrive with your meal, so you have to wait to dig into the salsa bar. I ordered the a la carte California fish tacos. They were okay! The tortilla was too small for all the stuff they stuffed into it. It was a little dry, so I put some extra green salsa on it. I ordered the Adobe salad with grilled shrimp. I was disappointed. Shrimp had no grill marks, were white in color. Guacamole didn't taste good at all, not a fresh taste, or color. It was placed in center with sour cream and the salad became overly coated with them. Tomatoes weren't fresh either. The flour tortilla needed more grilling, and it became soggy. I am from San Diego, and this pales to the Mexican food there. I definitely wouldn't order this again, and probably won't be back. read more
