This is a great casual dining place. My favorite is their Adobe Salad with steak. It is huge, so I always end up taking 1/2 home for lunch the next day. I also like the Paella burrito too. Complimentary chips are available to enjoy with their fresh salsas while waiting for the meal if you request. The staff are always friendly and service oriented. Same thing....they stood at the register studying the menu and asking questions for five minutes.. In the mean time (see picture) a half dozen teenagers stood around in a circle jerk . . Food was ok. Not great, but not bad. Very stingy with chips, not stingy with prices. Not even a handful of chips that come with the food so you can't munch on them while waiting. A decent selection at salsa bar except we were there on a Monday afternoon, 1 other patron so not busy at all, yet the salsa bar was a mess with napkins everywhere, in the salsas, trash on counter, and 2 employees standing around but not cleaning it up despite walking by it twice. I could have over looked most of it but then I went to change my infant in the bathroom and not a changing table in sight! I am speechless as to how a family establishment (has a kid menu and special kid cups and all) doesn't have a baby changing table! I'm allergic to raw onion so Mexican restaurants can be a challenge. I usually have more luck in the non- chain restaurants. Unfortunately, this restaurant was completely inflexible and wouldn't let me substitute avocado for their guacamole (which contained onions) or tomatoes for salsa. They have menu items which contain these ingredients so it's a choice they're making not to make it available. The cashier asked her manager who confirmed they wouldn't substitute. My family and I come here a lot but this will be the last time. My wife ordered a apple quesadilla that was dry. She went and asked for some extra sour cream and was told that it would be an additional charge of .85 cents. 2 minutes later 2 teens asked for sour cream and they were charged 0! "WTF!" Really?! Wow, I needed food for my night shift and randomly picked Dos Coyotes. I got the Fajita Salad and it was off the hook! The salad had to have weighed 3 lbs and had outstanding flavor. I got mine with the grilled steak. The mix of lettuce, jalapeños, and red pepper was almost perfect. With the dressing, it was medium spicy but not over done. In summary, do not spend your Saturday night here. It is a poorly managed location, long wait time, and poor food quality. Here is my experience from last Saturday night, 7/15/2017. There was no line when my wife and myself arrived. However, we had to wait 35 minutes for our food. It was obvious to us that the cooks did not know how to make the food. Here is how their famous "shrimp burrito" looks with one shrimp sticking out and the tortilla not properly tucked. (see picture) They also put less rice and salsa than usual. My wife had a border burrito and there was significantly less pulled pork than normal. I complained to one of the employees and they didn't do anything about it. I usually go to the Davis location, but saw that they opened a Dos Coyotes here in San Ramon closer to home. I have been going to Dos Coyotes for the last 17 years and this was the worse experience thus far! Sad. read more

We frequent the Concord location for Dos Coyotes. We've never had a bad experience there. We ended up at the San Ramon location since we were visiting friends nearby. All I can say is there is a huge plunge between the two locations. San Ramon is new. But we've been multiple times. And things like portions shouldn't vary between locations. I got a border burrito bowl at both and SR isn't even half the size of Concord. What is up with that? We ordered the steak and rice place for our daughter and the meat was totally overlooked. I've been here more than half a dozen of times. The first 2 times were when they first opened. Those 2 times were excellent. I had the fish tacos and shrimp burrito. Flavor was perfect. Their guac needs work though. Tasted watered down. The salsa bar has a variety of options. Then after that it was all downhill. I'm so sad. I keep going back hoping my experience will be just as good as the first two times. The next few times I just kept getting undercooked chicken and undercooked shrimp. I've been coming here for a while now and I finally decided to post about this place. I believe it is family owned and they higher high school and college kids which I think is pretty cool. Margaritas are cheap and take the edge off. The food is great with a home-cooked feel. Customer service is awesome and they keep their tables clean. Definitely saves me from having to cook at home after soccer practice. My kids really like this place and they are picky with a capital P. The family and I met our neighbors here today for a little lunch date around 1pm. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. The kids had steak tacos and went back for seconds. I ordered the crispy tacos; one steak and one chicken. I preferred the steak. I always enjoy the variety of the salsa bar and the $5 margaritas. You just can't beat it! Side note, I was pleased to see one of the employees constantly walking the room, checking on guests and ensuring the place was clean. Tried Dos Coyotes Boarder Cafe out for the first time. I ordered the chicken green chile enchiladas whice comes with rice and beans also order a margarita. The margarita comes out of the bottle ready to pour so was very weak in both flavor and alcohol. The food was the most bland mexican food I have ever had not horrible just zero flavor, taste or authenticity for mexican food. Fast food Mexican with out the fast. The cost was inexpensive and for good reason. You get what you pay for and at Dos Coyotes Boarder Cafe that means bland, tasteless, and what seems like store bought sauses. I just ate lunch here a few hours ago since my wife recommended it. It seems like a popular lunch spot for all the folks working in the Bishop Ranch area. The lunch line can seem a bit long but it rolls along at a decent pace so don't let that dissuade you. The owner/manager (not sure which) is quite friendly, making small conversation with customers in line while he hands out menus. I ordered the border burrito with chicken. It wasn't particularly stellar. The chicken was quite charred which overpowered most of the other flavors in the burrito. Also, they were a bit stingy with the guacamole and sour cream. At first I thought they had left it out completely, but then noticed there was some in there after I was maybe a third through the burrito. One other minor gripe. When they delivered the food to our table, we asked for utensils and the server just pointed us to the far corner, telling us we can get it from there. I had no issue getting it myself, but I'd have made a mental note if he proactively made the extra effort. It's one of those things that didn't hurt our visit, but also would've enhanced it in my book. I'd probably only come here if I wanted something other than a burrito. Otherwise, I'd opt for Chipotle. I'll give it another shot in the future though. Perhaps their other items are better. My wife certainly devoured her bean and cheese burrito! read more

The next location of Dos Coyotes is located in San Ramon just off of Crow Canyon road. If this is your first time considering eating here, it is a wonderful place. When you walk in, you will notice how bright and nicely decorated it is inside. Plenty of light, tables for seating and friendly staff will greet you. The food at this location is as amazing as it is in their original location back in the marketplace near U.C. Davis. Their menu has retained much of the core of the original but has expanded over the years to appeal to any one who is a meat eater to a vegetarian. The portions are large, the vegetables and seafood taste fresh and the meat is grilled to tasty perfection. I tend to judge my Mexican restaurants by the quality of their tortilla chips. Theirs are warm, fresh and crispy. There is really nothing on the menu that is not tasty so I don't think you will be disappointed. If you are, just tell the staff as they aim to please their customers. The food at Dos Coyotes is different than other Mexican type restaurants. Go try it once and you will see. read more

We came in today for the first time and were very happy with the prices, the margaritas, the food, and the salsa bar. Between the two of us we had the burrito bowl, steak tacos, and pork tacos. The burrito bowl was really huge and had a good portion of pretty good chicken, beans, rice, lettuce. The tacos were also pretty large; I only ate two and took the third home. The pork was tasty but it was shredded and I would have preferred firmer chunks of pork. The steak was good too and the green salsa really complimented it. I did have to go back and ask for the third taco that I had ordered and paid for: they only brought two. They were very polite and brought it out quickly, no big deal, I ain't mad atcha We had house margaritas for $5 which we thought was a good price. You could taste the tequila which is always a plus. If I can't taste it I always wonder if I'm getting cheated lol. You order at a counter and get all of your own flatware, napkins, etc and a runner brings the food to your table. I left a few bucks in the tip jar at the register and intended to leave more at the table, but no one ever returned, they didn't bus dirty dishes while we sat with our second margaritas, so I didn't leave a tip there. I cannot recommend this place enough. The food here is so good you guys, like embarrassingly so. For example,I'm not the type of guy to order a salad at a restaurant, but the salads at this place are insane. Everything else is fantastic, but seriously have you seen that Chinese chicken salad? Hubby and I have been wanting to try Dos Coyotes since they opened...but the long lines have scared us away. Our craving for Mexican food won last night so we made our way to Dos Coyotes and waited in the long line. Here are our takeaways: 1. Be patient. The line can be long and moves slowly. 2. They have $ 5.00 margaritas! We didn't try it but plan on having one during our next visit. 3. It can get really loud inside the restaurant. We were at Dos Coyotes around 7:45pm and it was very crowded, and quite loud. 4. They have one soda machine that dispenses one drink at a time. The machine itself is quite nice and as modern as can be. But, and it's a huge BUT, it serves one customer at a time.... AND it has a large beverage selection which can be overwhelming to those who are indecisive. We were watching customers pressing the arrow button for the next page of beverage choices.... And I swear, they must have pressed that arrow button 4 or 5 times before getting to the end. The line for a beverage can get pretty long. We suggest bringing your own bottled water especially if you're dining in during the lunch or dinner rush. 5. We ordered the following - Chips & Guac: It's a good sized portion of guacamole with plenty of chips. The guacamole was pretty good. Shrimp Taco: The taco came with 3 large shrimp and it tasted all right. I was pleased the shrimp wasn't overcooked. 4 Rolled Tacos (appetizer size): This was our least favorite dish. It was very plain and not anything like I'm used to having in SoCal... you know how they do! 4 rolled tacos covered in melted / shredded cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, guac and maybe sour cream..... yum!!!! Anyway, the Dos Coyotes version is "meh". Ranchero Burrito Plate w/ Chicken: This burrito is large enough to feed two, maybe even three, people! Ours came with refried beans and rice, and this was our favorite dish out of what was ordered. The chicken is seasoned well, the sauce tasted fresh, and there was plenty of food! 6. The salsa bar has a pretty decent variety of salsas...ranging from mild to medium hot. I was really hoping their habanero salsa would light my mouth on fire but it was quite mild for my taste. My one complaint about the salsa bar is that the wooden serving spoons for the salsa doesn't hold much therefore you end up taking a while to fill up the small plastic containers... and if you're interested in trying out all 6 (or 8) salsas then you'll end up holding up the line.... And other patrons will be giving you the stink eye because they, too, want to try all 6 (or 8) of the different salsas. Dos Coyotes provides plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and is located in a strip mall that has plenty of parking. Hubs and I liked the food and feel it's better than Prickly Pear and Maria Maria. I'm sure Dos Coyotes will be added to our list of dinner options =) Oh... and bonus, they also serve wine and beer in addition to the margaritas! read more

We had heard about this place from a lot of UC Davis friends, so we were eager to check it our when it came to San Ramon in 2017: we've been coming a couple times a month every since! It's a great place for families who want to/need to grab something relatively quick, but don't want "fast food." (I often see families straight from sports practice or games). Dos Coyotes has been an especially good fit for us because my husband has been vegan and vegetarian (alternately) throughout the past few years, and I love enjoying a good margarita with dinner! It's also a treat for whoever in your family cooks to have them bring the food to you and bus the table (but still provide quick service). We've loved every entree we've tried here, but a favorite is the Santa Fe Nachos. read more
