I have been here 3 times in the past few weeks. I really enjoy the food and think the prices are pretty reasonable for the Bay Area. I am a big fan of the paella burrito - great flavor. I have also tried a few of the quesadillas - all are good sized and tasty. Not a big salad guy but saw a few huge ones get served as I waited for my food. Dos Coyotes - definitely will not be going back. It was steady busy but not crazy but I came in to do a take out order totally excited about getting my tacos. I paid at 1:00pm at 1:26pm still NO FOOD! A manager came by checked into it & never came back, 1:30 I asked that they credit my account & that they could keep the food. Then I was directed to a manager who was unenthusiastic & absolutely NO APOLOGY from either one of these Managers. It's pretty unfortunate that when you have that " NO CARE" mentality. REMEMBER word of mouth spreads fast! You have lost our business for good. No yelling involved & I politely ask for a credit to my account.I had to ask for copy of the receipt b/c she took it. A designated area for take out would help you have customers waiting in high traffic area where they getting salsa & beverages. It seeme to be a very disorganized operation. Every time I've come to the place, that food has been average at best. I went a few days ago with a friend, he ordered right before me and ordered 2 tacos and a quesadilla. I ordered two minutes after him and ordered one taco. After his food came out, I waited another 15 minutes and still had not recorded my single taco. Popular for a reason! They do the meat right, have a wide variety of great tasting salsas at the bar, and the service is fairly quick. A note about the salsas- why do the serving spoons have to be tiny? They get you through ordering really quick but the salsa bar crowds up because everyone is stuck trying to spoon their salsas with EXTREMELY TINY SPOONS. My wife and I dropped in Sunday late afternoon (4:15 pm) after reading a local article about its attributes. We were excited going in. Service was very friendly. The place is large, has patio seating, seemed reasonably clean and not too busy. We ordered fish tacos and a red chile enchilida plate, $5 margarita and chips. The selection of salsas at the bar was decent, and they were all pretty good. The margarita was poured from a bottle, but was very good. We waited 15-20 mins for our food, while no less than 7-8 workers stood around behind the counter. After waiting at least 18-19 minutes, (the place was almost empty) I got up to inquire about our food, and it was then that it was being brought to us. While the very young employees all seemed nice, we each got the feeling none of them had much real work experience, and seemed more focused on engaging in their own personal conversations, than visiting with paying customers to check on things, picking up trash, busing tables My wife's 2 fish tacos each had ONE chicken nugget sized portion of fish EACH! My enchilida plate was decent, however the sauce was very bland, and unsalted. I donated my wife an enchilida so she didn't starve. The chips were so-so, not fresh made, however the salsa resurrected them. The rice and black beans were decent. Overall, we were very underwhelmed. For starters, our opinion is if you cannot get to East Oakland, Hayward or SF for REAL Mexican, Maria Maria and Pancho Villa in Danville serves much better food, and even has much better margaritas. The $5 Maria happy hour house margarita is one of the best in the region. If we return, it will only be for happy hour, and of course, the $5 margarita. read more

Kind of a customer epic fail! Weeknight before dinner rush. In fact, only one other table occupied in the restaurant. So why did it take 34 minutes to get our food??? Watched diners come in after us and get their food lickety-split. Even after questioning 2 servers it still took almost 10 mins to finally get our food (standard dishes, mind you, nothing special order). Smallest apology accompanied by a "must've been a lost ticket." That's it. We weren't looking for a free meal or $, but in a restaurant an apology might come with something to soften the blow. Even a measly bag of chips?! I happen to work in a customer service-oriented job, and I can only classify the restaurant's response as "epic fail." It costs more to attract new customers than it does to retain present ones, so I strongly suggest you empower your employees (at all levels) to put a face on customer service and add a little humanity and empathy in customer interactions. We've seen restaurants come and go in our area with regularity; you serve good food at decent prices, but ultiwe all have choices. Please don't take your customers for granted! UPDATE 2020: Thank you for acknowledging our previous experience. We have since returned several times to Dos Coyotes and have been enjoying both service and food. I've now been here at least 10 times and we just keep coming back.. not sure if that's because the mexican fare around here is awful and we miss our options in San Jose but Dos Coyotes helps satisfy the craving. We've had the green chicken enchiladas which have good flavor but could use some more chicken, the nachos which are plentiful and everything you'd expect from ordering nachos, burritos, soft tacos and the bobby crispy chicken tacos which in my opinion are where it's at. I love the crispy shell, the crisp lettuce, the cheese, the chicken which is super flavorful and add in some of their salsa and it's perfect! The service is hit or miss and sometimes it's extremely slow, they get orders wrong, and are a little rude, and other times they're super friendly, cranking out orders quickly and it's a great experience. read more

Love the food, hate the experience. The first several times I came here, I thought it was just a side effect of high demand and new staff. Now, I'm realizing that it's actually poor management. As I stood in line for almost 15 minutes, waiting for the 4 people in front of me to order, I had ample opportunity to watch the very inefficient system in action. I'd love to support this place but I just don't care to torture myself with the poor experience any longer. I'll try again someday, but for now I'm done. When this Dos Coyotes opened I was excited as it's so close to my house. But the Concord location is much better and very consistent with the food quality in Davis. With that said, the first time I tried the food in this location I found tiny pieces of broken hard plastics in the rice of a paella burrito. The shrimps were also not brown enough to have the grilled flavor. Size of the burrito was also smaller than Concord. On Sunday I went back for a quick bite and ordered the Southwest Burrito bowl with chicken. As the dish is mostly protein, the flavorless chicken is underwhelming. It's not well-seasoned and nowhere nearly as tasty as the other Dos locations. This location has much to improve before it is caught up to the other locations. read more

The food is okay here. Definitely not something I totally crave. Chicken has no flavor. What I really question is their food safety practices. There were several workers hanging out behind the counter messing around physically and touching theirs (and each other's) faces and noses. Seems like management is slacking here. Tonight was the second time we have ordered take out from this restaurant. The first time, we were impressed. The food was good, fairly priced, and hot when we got it home. Today however, we were left pretty disappointed. There seem to be some issues with consistency here. We ordered the same tacos and burrito as last time. Last time, the tacos were big and flavorful with fresh lettuce and just delicious. This time, they were small, barely any lettuce, and really boring. My ranchero burrito was great last time and this time it was like they literally just stuck giant chunks of steak into a tortilla. The (tiny portion of) guac was all shoved to the front, and I thought they completely forgot the salsa until I got closer to the end. Even the salsas were bland and uninteresting tonight. Also, our food was completely cold when my husband got home. We ordered for a specific time (like last time) and I'm pretty sure they completely disregarded our pick up time and just made the food as soon as possible. We are so bummed! We thought we had found a new quick and easy place to go for busy weeknights! But we won't be back. read more

I waited another 20 minutes before asking about my order. 15 minutes later I asked for a refund and left. The refund was $21. Was I overcharged in the beginning or undercharged/refunded at the end? Not so good. Aside from the long wait to order, the food is below average. If you order a border burrito with meat....get ready to try to find your meat it's more of a bean and rice burrito and it's not even a warm burrito. The enchiladas are just average and the only thing that tasted like real Mexican food was the quesadillas but then again if you screw up making a quesadilla then your going out of business. This place was festive and yummy. They have a salsa bar for you to find what is just right for your taste buds. The have a decent selection of plates, salads and a la cart. When you come, just know you order at the counter and they deliver to your table. If you are expecting waiter/waitress service that is not the case. The chicken taco was great. They neglected to make my "to go" order "to go," and they forgot to bring my friend's order altogether. As a result we were there for over an hour waiting for food. I frequented my location a few times when it first opened and it seemed to try and operate under semi-controller chaos. Even today minus the :45 minute lines and launch-hyped crowds, their process seems confused. I've been there when there's 50 people in line and one cashier to serve the line having to be lone order taker, question answerer, cashier AND bartender. 10 minutes per transaction, next in line please... I wonder what would happen if there was a logical division of labor at this place and more spices in the kitchen other than salt and pepper. There just seems to be a s-ton of people staggering around doing sorta nothing trying to accomplish something. But I'm in the weeds, bottom line is if your DC offers flavor as a side order - order it. If drowning your food in salsa to infuse flavor is your go-to mex MO then DC is right for you. If you have children adverse to "spicy" food who think Mac n cheese is the threshold to too much flavor, they'd probably like the nachos topped with their fire salsa. read more

A train wreck with that good ol' "don't give a crap" customer service feeling. Wife and kids went here tonight and their order got dropped completely. When my wife asked why people that had come in after them were finishing their meals, the response was that the ticketing system had run out of paper. So, about an hour late the food arrives. Daughter's burrito had no sauce but at this point she didn't care(server never offered to bring sauce on the side). She bites into her "vegetarian" burrito and gets a big mouthful of chicken. I was really jazzed about this place opening up. It's new, and the whole tri-valley area has a serious lack of Mexican or Tex-Mex of decent quality and/or authenticity. Our family has been very disappointed in our options around here. Not only has everything been very mediocre to bad, but the price for that mediocrity has also frequently been steep. In the city I've had some great mex food, but nothing out here so far. Anyway, that's why we had high hopes for this new place and we went on opening night. How was it? First I'll provide some context. My best friend growing up was Mexican. The family obviously first came from Mexico, but also spent a long time in Texas before moving to Seattle where I met them. I ate at their house often... loved eating his mom's fresh tortillas, the equal of which I still have never encountered at a restaurant (tip: she used bacon lard in them). Later in life I also learned Spanish fluently and spent many years working closely with and associating with Latin communities as an advocate, being exposed to the most authentic family cooked meals from many countries and a large variety of Mexican foods. My friend grew up and opened several Mex food joints in Seattle. Additionally, own family is also originally from Arizona where there is a fair amount of better Mexican food than you will find north of L.A. While all this doesn't make me a top chef critic, I think it establishes some credibility when it comes to being critical of Mexican and/or Tex-Mex restaurants. Also, any criticism I have is not meant to bash this place. I just have a high bar. Anyway, with that said, my thoughts on this place closely mirrored those of my wife. First the good: 1) The place looked new and clean. It's a decent atmosphere that feels a bit more like a restaurant than a taco bar or fast food joint like Chipotle, yet still serves you like you are in a taco bar. 2) The ingredients in the guac and the main dish burritos seemed fresh and well prepared/cooked 3) The price was very reasonable for both the amount and quality of ingredients 4) The service was great. Perhaps because it was opening night it even seemed over staffed. The staff was very helpful and readily available. We'll see how it is when things calm down. Now the bad, or mediocre: 5) The process for ordering, getting seating, and picking up napkins, utensils, and salsas from the salsa bar was a little clumsy and disjointed. This was helped somewhat by the availability of the staff to help. However, we weren't the only ones with this issue. After sitting down I watched many other families going through the process having similar issues. That being said, I'm sure that after going through the process a few times we'll get used to it. 6) The Tortilla Chips were stale... this was a bummer... nothing like the great chips I'm used to at good places. 7) Flavors - I tend to like a bit more authentic spicy mex flavors and I didn't find that here. Mostly things were bland. a. Salsa- The flavors of both the salsas and the sauce on the Burritos were mediocre and lacked something of the strong rich authentic flavors I'm used to. b. Main dish- The steak Burrito flavor was decent, but not great, and the seafood Burritos were again quite bland in terms of flavors. Nothing stood out. Nothing drove an addictive craving for future meals. In summary, while it's great to have a new place in the neighborhood, and I'd say this place is probably the best in the area just for quality of ingredients, customer service, and price, I still find it lacking in comparison to the great food I've had, and still yearn for something better around here that doesn't require a trip into the city. We probably will come here off and on, but so far it's not one of those places that create an addiction you have to satiate weekly. read more

I love coming to Dos Coyotes! All of the plates come in such huge portions, you can't help but be surprised every time a plate comes out. The original tacos, or the shrimp tacos would probably be my favorite things to order. The salads are also soooo delicious, the food is always so fresh since the meat is grilled and with all fresh ingredients. You also can't go wrong with the ranchero burritos, which are basically burritos smothered with sauce and cheese!! The nachos too omg, everything on the menu basically, there's a lotttt to choose from Dos Coyotes also has new specials on the menu every six weeks or so, and those are a must-try. And the house margaritas are only $5 so there ya go :D Me and my family love coming here, the owners are great and so family oriented. The staff is super accommodating and very helpful. Ordered takeout from the San Ramon location yesterday. Arrived around 12:30, smack in the middle of lunchtime. Inside and outside was crowded and it appeared the atmosphere was buzzing with people and activity from the cashiers/cook line/servers. The line was approximately 10 deep to the cashiers. Went to grab a menu and a guy, (assumed it was a mgr) said, "Oh, that's my job." Well, that was sorta weird, but hey, anything to help the process and make customers feel welcome. There's a large variety to select from, including appetizers, tacos, burritos (seafood, beef, chicken and pork), salads (which I noted were huge), enchiladas, etc. It appeared loud, but not surprising given the acoustics, but still welcoming and great colors. Cashier was friendly, however, it appeared I almost had to shout my order (my first time so I had questions regarding sauces, etc). Given I was doing takeout, I didn't want a bunch of sauces (that I've never tasted) oozing all over. Cashier seemed a bit frustrated as I didn't want any onions anywhere and made it a point to request things on the side. Whatever! Hey, I'm paying for it and don't want to be disappointed once home and ready to dive in. My wait time was approximately 15 min., which given what I've read from other reviews, that seemed great. Loved that a bag of chips came with my cheese enchilada meal. I also ordered a pulled pork taco. All delicious, especially the chips. When dining on Mexican food, we always eat way too many chips, but these were really good. *Impressed with first taste. Cheese enchilada, rice and beans good, too, however, I make pulled pork and would have seasoned a bit more. (I do understand restaurant is serving many people with likes/dislikes.) Next time I order a pulled pork taco, I'm going to request no lettuce. Couldn't find the pulled pork for all the lettuce. Plus, very little cheese. Given the amount of lettuce it's no wonder the little bit of cheese didn't melt. I like the variety of choices (unlike Chipotle), however, I've never gotten anything from Chipotle that wasn't steaming hot. I want to go with my hubby and will take time to eat at the restaurant. I'd like to see how warm my meal will be when dining in. Overall, I liked the food (the red sauce I chose wasn't spicy so I will bump it up a bit next visit) and loved the chips. I agree on the tiny containers for salsa, although if dining in, I would place on my dish and skip the teeny-tiny paper cups. After reading several reviews and sampling the taco, enchilada, black beans and white rice, it appears the management is still working out the kinks of cashiers, cooks and servers. The young man who looked after my "to go" pkg was attentive and pleasant. Note to mgmt: Please advise cashiers, even if it takes a few minutes of your time, there will be first timers trying out this restaurant with obvious questions regarding food, spicy (or not?), personal requests, etc. Take the time, be pleasant (we know your mgrs are telling you to be efficient and speedy) answer our questions, etc. In the end, there could be less incorrect orders and satisfied customers that will continue to return. Two days later, hubby and I ate at this restaurant on a Sunday evening. Asked for a small bowl instead of paper cups for salsa. Mgr. said we don't offer that service. Why? They have small bowls. Then, offer larger paper cups for the salsa. I ordered a pulled pork enchilada (thinking I'd get more meat). Again, very little meat and the entree was lukewarm. How do you melt cheese and the food arrives at the table lukewarm. Very disappointed. Husband ordered a salad with chicken. Way more lettuce then meat. Beans were at the bottom of this huge salad. Looks are deceiving when the salad arrives. On a positive, guacamole and chips good. Plus, a young lady who said she was new working at the restaurant was very pleasant and apologized several times that she couldn't offer a bowl for salsa. I'll wait and return one more time to see if improvements are made. read more
