Went for brunch and the food was fabulous. They made a really good nacho platter for such a big portion and loaded with toppings. The squash cheese was very good, definitely comparable to real cheese. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cute, they had no line we went around 12 and were immediately seated without a reservation. Only complaint was that there was only one server and it took forever to get the check or to order, it was a little loud and hard to hear the waiter when they were speaking to us. I didn't love the pizza I got, but really that was my fault. I was so curious about the truffle pizza that I ordered it knowing I don't really like mushrooms ‍ And boy does it have a lot of mushrooms!!! That said the crust was perfection the truffle flavor was perfect, and the cashew (I believe) cheese was so delicious I also ordered a basil lemonade and the mango cheesecake. Both were good and the lemonade was a stand out star. I would agree with other reviewers that the cheesecake felt like more of a mango dessert which is fine with me, and I loved the fruit that garnished the plate. I can't remember the last time I had a strawberry with that much flavor. Although I'm not vegan it was a treat to walk into a restaurant and be able to eat anything on the menu without having to worry about dairy contamination. The service was just right and I really would love to come back and try some of the pizzas I would typically order. I can't recommend enough giving it a try. A friend and I stopped by before going to a comedy club and everything we are was absolutely delicious. We specifically can't here because my friend wanted to check out more vegan options crafted by the same chef and it did not disappoint. Double Zero is another stellar restaurant by Matthew Kinney that has managed to stay alive (RIP Plant Food & Wine and Sestina). The menu here features delicious pizzas and other small plates and pastas. They also have a wonderful drink menu. The Artichoke and Truffle Mushroom Pizzas are some of their most popular pizzas, and I can see why: they were delicious and so full of flavor. I also really loved the crust: thin, but fluffy around the edges. We also tried the Meatballs, which were just okay in my opinion: they were more just like tightly-molded balls of quinoa which I thought was a bit odd, would've preferred a soy-based protein instead. All of the seating inside is countertop, so on a busy evening you may be forced to make a new friend. But from my experience this place doesn't get too busy! To be completely honest I don't remember everything we ordered but I tried it all and it was all quite good. My favorite thing of the night was certainly the Spicy Arabiata pie. The shiitake bacon and cauliflower added some great texture and flavor to the pie and a nice helping of basil on top was refreshing. The crust on all of the pies was nice and crisp with the right amount of char. Another pie I really enjoyed was the Basil Sunflower Pesto. It's definitely a more exotic type of pizza, but as a fan of pesto I was very pleased. My favorite of the pastas was the Cacio e Pepe. It wasn't too heavy and the flavor was simple and clean (in a good way). The pasta was cooked well with a nice chew to it. For a return visit I'd probably get this again. After reading about their Michelin Bib Gourmand award 6 consecutive years, I made a point of trying Double Zero, which features vegan/plant-based pizza from a custom built wood burning oven. Of note, Double Zero claims that the "double zero flour" that they use is ideal for pizza dough. Because it is finely ground, it holds up to the high heat of their wood-burning brick oven, and it has a lower gluten content than most flours. I don't usually write reviews, but WOW I had the most incredible experience today. My wife and I have been Double Zero customers since 2015 and we love their food, wine, and service. We frequently bring family and friends when they visit NYC and it always makes for a special time. It was raining today and we ordered three pizzas for delivery. The courier only delivered one pizza, so I called the restaurant and they asked me to request help through my delivery app. The app canceled the missing items and gave me credits, so...problem solved? Nope! I called the restaurant again just to inform them that my remaining items were canceled and that they could now do whatever they wanted with those pizzas. Instead of hanging up, they asked for my address and said that they would personally deliver them free of charge. When I opened my door a short while later, the owner Kyle was standing there with a big smile on his face. He was thrilled to complete my order and he refused a tip that I tried to hand him. Now THAT is customer service! As usually, the food tastes incredible and makes us feel great afterwards. Many thanks to a special restaurant and a special owner here in the East Village. So, when my wife and I made a recent trip to NYC, and we discovered that the NYC branch of Double Zero is right across the street from our daughter's apartment, it was a no brainer: GO. The design and ambiance are very similar to Double Zero in Venice -- same wall of wine, same high-top dining tables, same wood-fired oven clearly visible in the kitchen. Forget that it's vegan (my wife and I mostly are) -- the food stands on its own as really, really good. Ok -- great. We ordered many of our favorites: Basil sunflower pesto pizza, sunflower caesar, baked meatballs, eggplant parmesan, mac e cheese, and cacio e pepe. All perfectly executed, all super tasty. The absolute best pizza I have ever had in my lifetime, vegan or not, was the Truffle Cashew Cream pie from Double Zero. WOW ! Truffle cashew cream with wild mushrooms, baby kale and lemon vinaigrette. Absolutely speechless - this pizza was chockful of flavor and overflowing with wild mushrooms. The balance of flavors was delightful, not overly creamy, or salty, simply impeccable. The dough was light and airy with the right amount of crisp. We came on New Year's Day after working all day on the front lines for 12 hours, in the middle of a rain storm, in 30 degree weather, and after literally trying to find a suitable place (we are very, very picky) for nearly two hours sitting in the van. It was also 9 p.m at this point and we were exhausted and hungry after searching for a place that had heating on the outdoor seating that was both functional and working enough to counter the double whammy of bad weather. For starters, the staff was extremely friendly, extremely attentive and more than accommodating, especially since it was a rather slow night at most places being New Year's Day and it was not the most inviting weather for people to be sitting outside. Cards on the table: We did not realize this was a vegetarian/vegan/plant-based restaurant, which was an interesting surprise. I've gone through plant-based phases with eating, so I was game; not that we were going to leave at that point since it took us two hours to decide on this one and it was late and riany. While it seemed apparent that DZ is known for its vegan/plant-based pizzas, we went for the "not pizza" dishes. We started out with two appetizers: the Sunflower Caesar Salad and the Funghi Agrodolce, which is basically a sweet and sour champignon mushroom dish. The salad was HUGE. We shared that. We actually think they amplified it a bit since we were splitting this. Regardless, it was delish. I usually like my non-plant based Caesar dripping in dressing. But, it was flavorful enough that I didn't need to over dress it. I ate nearly my entire salad and part of my hubbie's. The salad rocked. The Funghi Agordolce was really good. VERY flavorful. I don't usually like mushrooms or eat mushroom dishes. But this was served with a unique sauce/dressing on the plate. For our entrees the hubbie had the Cacio e Pepe, which is soy-free and made with almond Parmesan, black pepper and cashew cream, and I had the Pasta Bolognese, which is also soy-free, served with a walnut mushroom ragout. This is where they lost us a bit. But, it was more about us then them. Jayson is used to the traditional Cacio de Pepe, which is a favorite of his. The plant-based ingredients gives it a unique, though yummy, taste. It's definitely an acquired taste. And he's not so much used to plant-based options. The Bolognese wasn't bad. It was flavorful. Again, for a meat-lover it is an acquired taste. It was really good. Would I recommend this place, absolutely. For people who love plant-based food, it's a winner. Clearly they know what they are doing, as they have restaurants all over the world. Will we be back? Probably not. But we were craving a plant-based option, sure. The heaters are adequate for winter outdoor seating IF you are sitting under them, which I was. But if you are not directly under the gas lit heating towers, like my husband, you're likely to be very cold during this season while having to eat outside. read more

My friend and I came here for dinner on Monday, December 12, 2022. We got Funghi Agrodolce and Basil Sunflower Pesto. Fungi Agridolce was not my favorite to say the least. It was too strongly seasoned and had a bitter aftertaste. It was salty to the point that I had to drink two gulps of water for every bite and actually waited till the pizza comes out to balance the saltiness out. I am not sure if this is supposed to be a standalone dish or had to be ordered with something else, like extra bread or something. Basil Sunflower Pesto was a lot better. My expectation was definitely high given that I read somewhere this place is on Michelin Guide, so I couldn't help but be disappointed. I wonder if I just got the wrong things on the menu. I was there recently and ordered an ice cream desert for my niece, there were only 3, 2 top tables so the place was fairly empty. The restaurant has a cozy feeling, with music playing at a appropriate level, and communal seating which makes it a bit unique. But the real highlight is the food. We only tried the pizzas during our visit, but all the ones we tried were made to perfection. Tasty dough, delicious sauce, and varied toppings and combinations. Additionally, the size of the pizza is relatively large, so it is easy to share one pizza and a appetizer for two (~$15-20 per person). All in all, if you want good pizza and a great experience, Double Zero is hands down an excellent alternative. Double Zero NY MN East Village 2021 September Four Stars This place had a great vibe, superb service, and good food. The hostess was able to seat us inside immediately. The inside was church-like with multiple rows of long high top tables with a narrow alley down the middle. It makes for a congested thoroughfare. The wait staff was attentive, constantly busy, and very friendly. The pizza was okay. We had Gluten Free Squash Blossom Pizza with Blistered Tomatoes and Balsamic Glaze and Gluten Free Arrabbiata with Cauliflower.
