Tucked away on Folsom, DragonEats is one of those places that is easy to miss, but that you'll be sad you did! (8.4/10) Taste: 9.2/10 I ordered the Tofu Banh Mi. The tofu is filling and flavorful, the latter of which is rare. Whoever prepares this really does their homework, as it has a very slight crisp on the outside but is almost "meaty" in texture without having that spongey taste that tofu so often does. The vegetables add a sweetness and a slight kick especially with the jalapeños. Finally, the bread is nice and crunchy. Customer Service: 8/10 Luckily, this time there was no wait and I got to order within only a few minutes of arriving. The service was pleasant and the food came out within about 15 minutes. Appearance: 7/10 The restaurant itself is really only meant for takeout. The doors are open and there is a counter right when you enter where you pay. There isn't a waiting area exactly so you end up standing outside after you order. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to of least have somewhere inside where you can wait on a particularly hot or cold day. The Bahn Mi itself was wrapped well and didn't look too different from others I've had. Value: 9.5/10 My reasoning here is simple; I've never had as good a Banh Mi for the price. Really love this place! Fresh food at fair prices. The lunch queue can get a bit long- so recommend arriving early. They used to have online ordering but it seems like it's been down for the last few months. Service is fast and friendly. My favorites are the shrimp noodle roll, teriyaki tofu bowl, and their broth. All the items here are filled with delicious veggies and herbs. Really good banh my - very thankful to DragonEats for bringing "a taste of Vietnam" to the city (and a few blocks away from my office)! The Roast Pork deserves a 5/5. Bread has perfect crunch and texture. Substantial portion of juicy, savory & sweet, roast pork. Creamy pate, spicy jalapenos, crisp pickled veggies, and a garlicky sauce. The 5 Spices Chicken has been more of a 4/5. Feel like it can use a little more 5 spice but still solid and would echo the notes above. Portions and ratios are on point and a really good value at $9 per sandwich. I tend to go a little off-hours but even with a line, food comes out fairly quickly. Yum yum yum! The most filling and fairly priced Bahn Mi I've had thus far in the city! So quick and so easy to get a great meal! I tried the meatball and pork sandwiches- both were fantastic. I preferred the meatball because of the sweetness of the meat but the pork was also fantastic. The sandwiches were stuffed to the brim with fresh veggies and the meat was clearly expertly prepared. Pork meatball bahn mi is one of the best sandwiches I've eaten in the city (or anywhere). Only problem is it took me 4 visits to finally get the courage to try something else it's so damn good. Thank you, DE. My second choice was the roast duck bahn mi. Didn't like it quite as much. Didn't like the sauce, or maybe it just had too much sauce. And if you know of a place that's cheaper with the quality at par or better than DragonEats, do message me :) A small menu here removes the Paradox of Choice for me and probably a lot of customers. I've had Bahn Mis (and so far, only bahn mis) from DragonEats many times, usually alternating between the 5 spice chicken and roast pork with both being fantastic. Today I had the roast duck bahn mi for the first time and oh man was it good! Mine was loaded with duck, cilantro and jalapenos with probably just a little too much of the sweet sauce. Someone else mentioned not having an option online to reduce it - I'm sure you could put it in the notes at the end but I got it without modifications for my first time and was very happy, especially at the $12 base price! Damn, people must have high standards for banh mi cause I'm surprised this place doesn't have 5 stars! This place serves up a very tasty gourmet banh mi, the quality of ingredients match the price. They stuff it with generous portion of meat and the bread doesn't break all over you like a traditional vietnamese baguette. Either that or some people don't like banh mi. This place is a great value spot - I got the noodle bowl and it's quite hefty for $9-$10 dollars. I had the chicken spice bowl and added on tofu. Great spot for a quick and tasty bahn mi! Had to get a quick and late lunch due to a busy day at work and I was craving for some viet food near work so I decided to check this out. I ordered the Roasted Pork Bahn Mi and the Vietnamese Coffee. The bahn mi was super yummy. The pork was super tender and marinated with this tasty, savory soy sauce based sauce. All of the other ingredients were perfect like the toasted bread and the carrot and daikon, etc. One thing to mention though is that there is a slice of jalapeno in the sandwich which was really spicy lol. The viet coffee was super strong / caffeinated as expected and tasted like any other viet coffee I've had before. Superb Tofu Banh Mi. I tend to go there for lunch around 12:40. The line usually isn't bad, and when there's a line it moves fast. Their tofu sandwich is fresh, spicy and flavorful. Tofu is the right amounts crispy and juicy. Bread plays it's role well. Their vegetarian teriyaki bowl is great too (sometimes they add fish sauce to it so I tend to avoid it or explicitly ask for soy sauce twice). The food is consistently good. Really like the Chicken Bowl here - I think it's the best in the city, but it's becoming more and more frustrating trying to give them my business. It used to be easy to place your order on their website easily and then swing by to pick it up, so that you didn't have to stand around waiting for it. Now when you phone you just get a busy signal and they don't even take phone orders - so your only option is to go and stand in line. 4.5*. Affordable, flavoursome, and fresh! Dragoneats is a bit of a walk from my office, but it's worth it every time. The banh mi, at around $8, makes for a very affordable lunch, especially when nearby options top $12 or $13. I find myself rotating between the duck, pork, sardine, and tofu banh mi. They're all good, but the duck and tofu definitely stand out. They're relatively generous with both cilantro and jalapeno, so make sure to ask for your banh mi without them if either's an issue for you. (They're also accommodating if you ask for extra cilantro!) One banh mi is usually good enough for me, but when I'm feeling extra hungry I'll split another with a friend. The low price point makes that a lot easier to justify. They also offer a decent Thai iced tea. If you're a fan of kale (I'm not!), my friends say their kale soup is quite tasty. I'm looking forward to going back... but not as much to the line that builds up whenever a conference is in town.
