Dune brothers is a locally owned seasonal fish shack that sells delicious New England seafood. It is hidden from view along Eddy street, next to Innovation park. It has a variety of favorites like fish and chips, fish sandwiches, and of course clam fritters! One of the most popular things on the menu is the fish sandwich. It is massive, a large piece of potato chip-crusted fish, covered in tartar sauce, with slaw, pickles, and what looks like a huge cheeze it. It is so delicious and definitely a must try if you stop by. The thick cut fries are also great. The clam fritters, a RI staple, are like hush puppies containing little bits of quahog (clam). These were perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside, and would pair perfectly with clam chowder. The only issue is parking, as their lot is tiny. Came here straight from the airport for my first visit. I thought there was a huge line but it was half a line and half people waiting for their order. Definitely took some time to get the order out but man was it worth the wait! The fish is a solid filet of whichever catch you choose and the batter is thin and crispy. It really allows the fish's flavor to come through. The tarter sauce that comes with it is well spiced. I normally don't like thicker cut fries but these were crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Their clear clam chowder is also so delicious. The lobster roll & chowder is good; but the market fish basket really did it for me: it was four fish just fried whole over freshly fried fries. Mercifully, the head was not on it; but even with the bones, the fish was so freshly fried, the fish kind of just fell off the bones and the small ones you just chomp up. If you don't want to bother with the bones, order the fish and chips. Delicious. This is a frequent lunch spot for my father and I. He's really picky and likes it here. I've regularly enjoyed the chowder, clam cakes, lobster roll, fish mac, dune dog and more. This is a busy clam shack with a decent amount of picnic tables to eat at. I would bring a blanket to eat on the back lawn just in case there aren't any picnic tables available. The food here is amazing! It's pricey but it's expected for seafood. The crab and lobster roll were very fresh, and the fries were seasoned perfectly. The only thing is that with the outdoor seating, there were wasps/bugs that also wanted my food. All in all, I left here very satisfied! read more

Great lobster roll! Big and packed full of flavorful lobster. I liked the clam cakes but wish I could have bought just 1 instead of 3. They are kinda like big hush puppies with bits of clam inside. Had a nice citrus flavor to them. Clam chowder was good, packed with yummy clams. Customer service could have been better. When I arrived at opening (with open sign up) I was told they weren't open yet. Not a problem I stepped to the side to wait. Then several other parties came and were helped. Guess they are open now. Lol. To the end of the line I go. Not a big deal but felt it could have been handled better. Employees weren't friendly but maybe it's an East Coast thing. Always a fresh and delicious selection of seafood. The loss of one star is for their lack of ice for drinks. We visited on a super hot day, and I had to throw my root beer out because it was warm by the time our food was prepared. Otherwise, the food was delicious. Their crab-salad roll was refreshing and well seasoned. The shark in the bait basket was also perfectly cooked and tender. The fries in the basket were a bit too over-seasoned for my taste, but they were still tasty with some ketchup. Love their clam cakes, although they're much better with some chowder to dip them in, so I may keep those as cooler weather items to order. My favorite part of the meal was their coleslaw. The cilantro and pickled onion in the slaw was refreshing and nuanced--and I'm here for it! I really hope they open up an air-conditioned location very soon, because their food is always great, but sitting outdoors on a humid day isn't for everyone. This was one of the best seafood meals I have had in a while. We ordered a bunch of things to share and all were delicious. The chowder was thick and had lots of flavor. The clam cakes were epic - each one about the size of a baseball and yet not dense at all. The lobster and crab rolls were both excellent, but the best part was the fish sandwich. A bargain at $12 it was easily 6 ounces of fish crusted in potato chips and served on a soft roll with tartar sauce and a vinegary coleslaw. It was honestly one of the best fish sandwiches I have ever had. While it is a bit pricy compared to other clam shacks, it was well worth the price. Super friendly service. Nice little place lots of outdoor seating. The piece of pollock I had was huge. I love that it's fried with the skin on. The batter is light and super crispy with flakes of salt sprinkled on top. The fish itself was flaky and very moist and does not taste fishy. The fries were huge , also not greasy but crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The clam cakes have a seasoning that is very different but tasty. They use huge chunks of clams , they are fluffy , enormous and not greasy. The clam chowder is super thick and filled with tons of clams , potatoes , onions and celery. This is such a fun place to grab a meal! It's a cute "clam shack" planted on essentially a median strip running along Dyer/Eddy street. Seating is all outdoor picnic tables, just behind the new bus shelters. I had the fish sandwich, with a potato chip coating that was super crispy and delicious - and big enough to overhang the bun. The slaw seemed to be a (tasty!) combo of pickled cabbage with pickles and more traditional mayonnaise-type slaw. There was some cheddar on the sandwich, but I barely noticed it. My sandwich was delicious, if a bit too oily for me. Maybe the coating didn't fully adhere to the fish before it was fried because it flaked off in the corners leaving a slightly greasy filet of fish. I would have been fine if my bun hadn't been buttered, but I know that's just me: I'm not generally a fan of meals that without a doubt will get my hands dirty - unless I'm given a wet nap with my food (My mom said I even used to complain when I was a baby when a sandy beach got my hands dirty). My partner had the fish and chips plate. He got a HUGE piece of pollock with a more traditional coating - which also seemed to "pull away" from the fish. No matter, he scarfed it up! He dunked his fries in the excellent tartar sauce, but there was malted vinegar available too. This, plus two bottles of water set us back $35. Not bad since we were happy and pleasantly stuffed! Came here today for lunch, we split an order of the cape shark fish and chips (we didn't want to order any type with skin or bones). The online ordering is super easy and convenient and you show up and don't have to wait as long. They were like big meaty fish nuggets, I split them with my boyfriend and there was enough for the two of us which made the price not bother me. They were greasy but not too much, the breading was puffy it almost reminded me of fried Oreo breading but not sweet of course. There is only a takeout window and outdoor seating, lots of it though. And a cute little grassy area. Counter service was friendly. I wonder if they switch up their fish offerings. You have to pay for any other sauces and I saw they had a few. Street parking! read more

This seafood shack has been a destination every time I'm in Rhode Island. If they have the lobster roll, get it! The scup is another favorite of mine. It's located in a lovely outdoor setting, but I've heard they're opening up a year round location soon, which should be amazing. The food is incredible but so is the service - they're always busy, but they tell you about the approximate wait time. The owners are usually there and they clearly take great pride in serving sustainable local seafood. read more

I saw a lot of positive reviews on this place and since I was in the area, I decided to give it a go. I ordered out of the side of what looked like a food truck (?), but there was a lot of picnic tables out front. Everyone who helped me was super nice as well. I got the Bait Box (Whiting Fish) and Crab Cakes. I was actually really surprised how big the fish was. I saw previous photos and I didn't think it would be as big. The fish has a good amount of bones in it, so definitely something to watch out for. It was still delicious to me though. The batter was perfect - not too thick. The crab cakes were very dense and very flavorful. One of them before trying my bait box and I was already almost full. Would recommend for everyone to try though! Finally had time to try this place on my most recent trip. Checked out their menu before heading over, decided on the lobster roll and a quart of clam chowder. The chowder is good, but the large chunks of potatoes were a turn off. The lobster roll has a fair amount of meat, definitely yummy...BUT, it is listed at $24 on their website, the actual price is $32! Big difference! They were out of lobster rolls, so we "settled" for the crab roll, fish & chips and a New England clam chowder. They were all good. The crab had a nice sweet flavor, the batter on the fish was crispy and the fish itself was light and flaky, and the chowder had nice crispy bits of bacon.
