No pretentious corn flake french toast with seasonal fruit here, and I can't tell you if the eggs are cage free or not. It's all the breakfast basics you love, made with love. I ordered one of their combination meals which included two eggs, sausage, hash browns, and my choice of bread. My first choice (biscuits) were sold out, so I upgraded to an english muffin. I shared their pancakes, and every bite was buttery heaven. Everything was fresh, and delicious, and my only regret is not coming in earlier to get those biscuits. Somedays a good ol' diner is all you need. The line can be long but if you come by yourself it's usually just a 5min wait for the counter. Cash only! Sometimes the hash browns need more cooking but you can probably ask for that if you want. Would be nice if they have grapefruit juice. read more

Here at Eddie's Cafe, they prefer to do the simple, fast, and easy breakfast method, almost like you'd do at home. I can definitely hop on board with that, because they do it right. Great service, great food, great price. That's what I like. It also became immediately apparent as we ate that a TON of regulars come through here, which is, as my girlfriend put it: "just a good sign ya know?" I mean, they had people's orders already written down before they had even come through the door. Love to see that level of personal touch from a restaurant. 5 stars all around. Despite four stars showing - this is really a three and a half star rating. If I'd come to Eddie's a couple of years ago - penniless (cause I left my wallet....somewhere), my throat still tasting last night's cold left-over Pad Thai noodles purge, my head pounding, my messy hair reeking of bar smoke, and my stomach still queasy from the previous evening's 2:00 am wake-up call to say a pleasant good-bye to all of my effort-filled sangria chugs - I would have flipped over Eddie's. The grease would have coated my stomach, the quick service would have eased the pain, and the mellow Motown music would have been just right. With never-ending water refills, and crammed into a booth with friends I would have basked in it all. Bliss. But I discovered Eddie's a couple of years too late and so Eddie's while good, is nothing I would stand in line for. That being said - the service is impressive. They have it down. The servers are friendly, quick, and create a wonderful homey feel in the place. Also, their biscuits are awesome: fluffy buttery marshmallows. But my main meal, the true decider - was just OK I prefer more seasonings and flavor to go with my grease. They also lack any real solid vegeterian options. I would recommend Eddie's if you're in the area, but if you're looking for "The Golden Breakfast" - The Pork Store Cafe is a better choice. read more

He took me to Eddie's Cafe, since it was just down the street from him. We walked up to a converted building with left over Victorian architecture. It was grundy and unimpressive on the outside. However, walking in, you feel almost welcomed. Eddie's is a quirky small breakfast/lunch cafe run by an Asian family. Grandma is constantly doing the dishes behind the counter. Brother is cooking in the back. Sister is serving coffee. The food was not greasy as most diners which tends to slap everything in lard. Eddie's offers the perfect meal to cure a hangover on Sunday morning with no added MSG. I had the pancakes, eggs, and bacon special for under $6 dollars with added hash browns for another $1.60. The food was cooked well. The hash browns had the right amount of crispiness. The eggs were cooked exactly how I wanted them to be. The bacon was thick but not too thick. But, what makes this place so special? It's quirks! 1) Random bouquets of flowers on scattered tables. 2) Collected mugs from all around the world used for coffee or tea. 3) Jukebox playing awesome music. 4) Extremely friendly Asian staff. 5) Cute little penguins on the menu. I asked the waitress if I could take a picture of the mugs with "breasts" on them and she had a chuckle. I'm sure she gets it all the time, but she didn't make me feel like a pervert. It's the little and simple things that make this place great. Here's why: Breakfast is served ALL DAY! Get their Denver Omelette (add cheese if you want) and pancakes. You'll be full, the omelettes come with toast and hash browns too. Get hot tea or coffee, you'll absolutely love the mugs they give you since they have a huge selection on display in the restaurant. (Which made me wonder if they really put some extra thought into this. For example, the lady that sat next to us had two kids and she got a Wonder Woman mug and the another lady with her friends who were older got an I Love Lucy one. They gave me one that said "It's All About Me" in pink with a crown on it. Whether I'll admit this fit me or not... Ha, I loved it anyway. Friendly/efficient service. Super cute diner in NoPa run by a Korean family. They serve all the normal breakfast foods with a southern twist. So instead of toast you get grits or biscuits. And they serve collard greens and cornbread during dinner. How can you say no? The food is reasonably priced and comes out quickly. Clearly people around these here parts have never been to the South and enjoyed a real southern soul-food breakfast. The owner/operators at Eddie's are really nice people, but I almost find it ridiculous that a bunch of Asian people are running this joint. Having grown up in the South, I can say unequivocally that a place absolutely cannot call itself a soul-food joint without serving sausage cream gravy! Janis was so outraged that I had to hold her back from the kitchen to make the gravy herself. Not to mention I'm personally offended by the sorry excuse of a carbohydrate product they passed as 'biscuits." Seriously, the spongy sweet material is as far from a biscuit as cake is from French bread. The sausage patty is chunky with tendon bits and dripping with grease (I eat butter by the stick, so I love my fat, but this is a little too much), while the bacon is chewy, like rubber... oh boy, can I? Our only consolations: (1) the hashbrowns are good and (2) the eggs didn't come out of a carton, prebeaten. May be the pancakes are great, since that seems to dominate the breakfast menu, but given my experience, there's just not enough for me to go back again. read more

I have a soft spot for Eddie's, as it was one of the first diners that I ate at when I moved to S.F. in 1998. The food isn't amazing, it's your standard breakfast, lunch and dinner options. But with that being said, the staff is friendly, the food comes quick, and I love that the eclectic décor and layout feel so homelike. That means a lot to me when eating out. I was pleased to find just what I expected. A real proper diner, with simple diner food, really nice staff, and cheap prices (for SF at least). My over medium eggs were cooked just as I requested, the hash browns rocked, the smoked sausage was great (I really don't get the reviewer that seemed to be offended that it was a large sausage), and the biscuits were pretty tasty (that's saying a lot coming from a native Texan). My coffee and water were always full, and the food was brought out to me nearly before I had ordered it. Ming came over and began yelling 5 inches away from my daughter's head about how this table would be better for a Party of Five. A kind lady greeted me and asked how my day was and handed me a menu, and asked if I wanted coffee. i declined coffee and asked for just water. The omelet was okay, not amazing, not terrible though. Very simple and light. Cheese is an additional 30 cents. Sigh, that's a bit disappointing. The hashbrowns were done well, and the wheat toast was wheat toast. The toast actually came out first, and separate from the food. Odd. My total came to 8.75ish.
