Eddie's is the first place I've visited in San Francisco. It was morning and i wanted some good old fashioned breakfast food. This place is a nice corner diner located at a vibrant and busy part of town. One of the people working there, Ming, suggested I get the sausage platter that comes with a sausage, 2 eggs, and hash browns. Man, the food hit the comfort food spot. Nothing fancy. Just good old fashioned diner style cooking. I generally don't like sausage patties but those were pretty tasty. The eggs were well done although I would of liked the cheese to be a little bit more melted. The plate also comes with 2 small house biscuit (or toast). Do yourself a favor, and get the darn biscuit. You won't regret it and neither will I. The staff is very friendly. Ming definitely turned the breakfast visit to an eating experience. Definitely planning on being a regular. Service was horrible. We got sat down, then 10 minutes later got asked to move and when we politely declined, our service went downhill from there. Server brought our check halfway through our meal and threw it down on the table. No way I was leaving a tip, so I put $0 for tip and signed the amount of my check, we walked out and then server chased after us and said "hey you didn't leave a tip, you wrote a zero here you need to change that"... wtf who does that. Eddie's is part of the fabric of its neighborhood, and for good reason. Even through the pandemic, they've consistently produced a great diner experience that I think is unmatched in SF. No, the coffee isn't great, and the syrup's not real maple, but that's not what Eddie's is about. It's a simple, solid breakfast for two for $30, even with extra sides of hashbrowns and biscuits (which you shouldn't miss). Get a hot link, savor a menu that hasn't changed in 30 years, and call it a Saturday. read more

Great neighborhood spot for a good greasy spoon experience. I don't come as often as I once did but the people watching is still A + It gets crowded on weekends so be mindful of that when you come. The man that works behind the counter and greets you and runs food is one of the best employees. Always so friendly. While on that part, I don't appreciate being rushed when I'm finishing up my coffee or last bites, especially being told there's a crowd outside. Let's be real, an extra 3 minute isn't going to kill anymore and it's a majority of people waiting for tables vs a counter spot for one. read more

I used to love this place we would go once a week but the last time we went my eggs came out way too undercooked. When I told them that it was a little too undercooked 3 different people proceeded to lecture me about not knowing what i ordered. They then kept telling me that I was wrong about what I ordered and that I need to order something different next time. They were very rude and I won't be back after that. read more

The food was horrible. My food was served luke warm at best. I felt that they took someone's else leftovers and put them on my plate. One of the worst eateries I've ever visited and last. Not only that the bar towel was used to wipe down the syrup canisters, hands, seats and tables one towel did all of this and went back to sitting on the bar. Never again read more

This is definitely one of my favorite cozy and small diners in SF right by the Alamo Square Park. The food that is served are the classic breakfast entrees that you find in a typical diner, but I have to say that the vibe in this diner is different! When stepping foot into the door, you will see it is located at the corner of the street, a wide collection of cups, family owned, and cozy. I have to say the biscuits that they serve is nice and warm, but also fluffy! I can't get enough of them when I'm here eating a nice classic breakfast. read more

Recently went to San Francisco for a few days with my girl and we wanted to try and eat at as many "hole in the wall" places as possible. We came across Eddie's as we searched for a place to get a good breakfast. The location of the place was great. Close to Alamo square and the painted ladies. I had the waffle with eggs and beef sausage and she had the French toast. The customer service was speedy and very hospitable. In fact it was so good we ended up going back the next morning. 15/10 would recommend this place to anybody visiting the city! read more

Good spot to post up as a 1-top at the bar, however the seats are very high and difficult to get in and out of, so it's not the most comfortable bar seat you've ever sat on. The food was relatively cheap ($13.75 for a Denver omelette which comes with hash browns and toast).. The omelette was burnt and underwhelming, and the omelette DOES NOT come with cheese. I repeat does not come with cheese, which should be illegal. The service is fine, not bad/not very good, although the guys are friendly if you ask how they're doing. Not cash only anymore! After living in the area for 30 years, I've only just started to go to Eddies regularly. I really like the combinations of items on the menu so that you can get both sweet (waffles and pancakes) and salty (bacon, sausage, eggs) at the same time. The service is always very friendly. Not a place to linger, however, as there is usually a line waiting for your table (but it moves quickly. Stood outside for about 10 mins at 9:20am on a Saturday.) I live right down the street from Eddie's and I try to eat here as much as I can. I love how fast they are and how friendly they are or so I thought. I tried calling in a pick up order today and after she took my order she asked for my name and I said Nicky she said that I need to make sure I pick up my order cause last time I didn't Pick it up mind you I haven't even ate here in months. I tried explaining to her I have never called in a order and not picked it up. My family owns a food business and I would never do that to another food business she was so adamant that it was me so I told her to forget it and cancel my order. I love this place! Service is so friendly and after you've been there a couple times, they start recognizing you and treat you as if you've been a regular for years. Love that feeling! The coffee is oh-so-good, and I love their pancakes combo with scrambled eggs and bacon. I also had eggs, grits and ham there too - love their grits! No-frills diner experience (which I was expecting), but nothing that really stood out which would make me want to come back. I got a double cheeseburger with fries. The patties were the standard kind that you'd get at the grocery store, the bun wasn't griddled, and you had to ask for condiments. Fries again were very run-of-the-mill, devoid of seasoning and lacking in crunch. And for $15 post-tip, you don't get that much food either. They ran out of biscuits. We asked if they could substitute with corn bread which is the same price on the menu. They refused. Why have biscuits on the menu if you're not going to serve them or offer an equivalent substitution. Would have just left if we hadn't already ordered coffee. The food is fairly standard, mediocre. The grits were okay, I've had much better. Nothing particularly good or bad about the rest of what we ordered. A normal omlette. Standard hash Browns. Prices are normal for what it is is. If not the best, this is one of my favorite local breakfast places in San Francisco. This is a local-owned cafe ran by, I believe, a family and close friends. The owners and employees are extremely sweet and welcoming. I've been here several times already, and I have loved it every time. Being in a busy city like San Francisco, you don't find a lot of breakfast places anymore that really give you that "80s diner" feel. This place gives me that and more. Aside from the service and location, let's talk about the FOOD. They serve very simple breakfasts, but in my opinion, made in the best way! My boyfriend and I always come here and order the same thing. He gets a coffee, and I get a hot chocolate. We order the one smoked sausage and egg combo. For the smoked sausage, you can either choose a spice level of mild or hot (We like the "Hot," it's extremely good!) It comes with sausage, two eggs and hash brown or grits of your choice. You also get a choice of toast or their homemade biscuits. THIS IS A MUST TRY. I highly recommend getting their biscuits. The biscuits here are the softest biscuits I have ever had, and they serve it while it's still very warm, so it's extra delicious. Not sure what kind of butter they use, but they have butter on the side of the plate and it's not in a little packet. It's the best combo. We also order a side of french toast (also one of their bests!) Whenever we leave, practically the entire place bids us goodbye with smiles on their faces. I always have a great experience at Eddie's. Only thing is that they are CASH ONLY, so make sure to have that on you prior to getting there. They do have an ATM machine, but who wants to pay that extra fee. read more

I've walked by Eddie's Cafe for many years, but finally went in today. It's not that I never had the curiosity to eat there, but I rarely crave diner food unless I'm on a road trip. (Something about being on the road makes you want eggs, hash browns, and bacon). An old friend of mine and I typically go to "trendier" breakfast/brunch spots when we want to catch-up. To mix it up, I suggested Eddie's because it seemed like the perfect "no frills," all-around-satisfying-food spot. In other words, we wanted a traditional diner that you know will make you feel at ease and at home. This is particularly difficult to find in San Francisco circa 2019. First of all, I love that Eddie's is situated at a corner. It's perfect for people watching and for feeling the rhythms of a neighborhood. There are probably a dozen or so seats at the front near the kitchen and then several tables for 2-4+ people. My friend and I secured a booth as soon as we walked in (yay!). I ordered two eggs+beef patty (essentially a hamburger patty). She ordered two eggs+bacon (which looked very crispy!). I ordered my eggs scrambled and you have a choice of grits or hash browns. I chose the hash browns and I am so glad I did because those were some of the crispiest hash browns I've had in years. They were clearly made with love (and I think some butter!). You can also choose between toast or a buttery biscuit (I chose the latter). It comes with a good ol' packet of Smucker's spreadable jam. My friend and I split a side order of two pancakes, which were also slathered in butter and served with a little jar of syrup. Tasty! Service was pretty good. The staff were attentive: refilling water, refilling coffee, etc. Unsurprisingly for a neighborhood institution like this, there were clearly groups of regulars. The staff seemed to know several folks who came through the door. I also like the kitsch of their different coffee mugs and all-Bay Area decor (sports teams, names of famous locals, photos, etc.).
