    Lox Sandwich
    Tracey W.

I am so glad I was introduced to Einstein Bros. The staff were welcoming and the space was bright and energetic. Upon arrival, they offered a sample of their blueberry muffin which was OUTSTANDING. So much that I decided to take one home. For breakfast, I enjoyed a lox sandwich. I selected the jalapeno cheddar bagel and appreciated the spice kick it added to the smokiness of the lox. For an even better experience, on my next visit, I will request a toasted bagel to give some warmth to the sandwich and might even want to add egg and arugula. These additions will turn a good experience to excellent!!! Cheers to good eating.

But what I remember most of all is the food, particularly ducking into a little shop off a piazza somewhere to grab whatever I could buy and eat while we walked to our next sightseeing destination--a pastry, a slice of pizza, or a sandwich. At Alveo, I almost feel like I'm right back there. The restaurant is small and lively, not a place to linger exactly but a place where you can tell you'll be taken care of. Just as many patrons are ordering to go as they are to stay. And the sandwiches? Good enough to power many, many steps of sightseeing across cobblestones, or just get you through the afternoon at your home or office in Cincinnati. They've absolutely nailed the ingredients on every sandwich I've tried, with high-quality components selected specifically for how they go together. (Like those little sandwich shops in Europe, there are no substitutions here--unless you'd like gluten free bread.) The bread? Unreal how it can hold these constructions together while being soft and delicious. The meats? Perfection. The cheese? Incredible. That pistachio stuff? I see it in my dreams. The one area where Alveo definitely deviates from its European brethren is portion size--these sandwiches are huge! They come in a paper wrapper, inside a to-go box, and believe me, you will probably need it. Each time I've been to Alveo I've ended up eating about half the sandwich for lunch and the rest for dinner, maybe with a snack in between, and felt perfectly satisfied for the day. So, yes, the $20+ price tag might discourage you, but don't let it. It's a $20 investment in a very, very delicious day.

We were expecting a crowd, but we were the only customers there aside from a gentleman sitting at the bar. A few more tables were filled by the time we left. There were six of us and most of us ordered burgers and fries. The burgers were good. The fries, not so much. Everyone that had fries agreed they were bland and tasteless. Mark had the bologna sandwich. He said it wasn't "thick cut", but rather more like several of pieces of bologna fried together. He was disappointed. One person ordered potato skins for their lunch. I didn't ask, but I saw they looked small and a bit dry and sad. Service was great, but the food...at least what we ordered, was lackluster.

Both were above average. The quesadilla was full of large chunks of perfectly seasoned, juicy chicken and lots of cheese. The meatball sub had 4 huge meatballs on a soft toasted hoagie bun. The fries reminded me of those served In 'n Out Burger...soft and less crispy than other places, but also less greasy. A very loud, festive crowd full of what were clearly regular customers. The bar was packed, and many customers roamed the restaurant visiting with other guests. Plenty of street parking in addition to the lot behind Ali's. We'll be back for sure!

I had heard that their pop-up dinners sell out very quickly so I was ready the day they were posted and grabbed a few spots for one of their February dates. We arrived and were greeted with a glass of Prosecco and then we found a seat at the long community table set for 20; it was so much fun getting to know the people seated next to us! Dinner was delicious! Four courses-the gnocchi with sausage was our favorite dish of the night.

If you follow them on socials, you can score a seat at the pop-ups. The place is an old house with a lot of character. The food for carryout is fantastic and their bread is fantastic. We live in West Chester and have driven down to there a few times just to pick up delicious dinners. We just attended our first dinner there last Tuesday. Oh My Goodness! What a treat. Jordan greeted us with a glass of Prosecco and directed us where to sit a long table that seats 20. We introduced ourselves to our seatmates and then our first dish arrived. Chef does explain the food before we had each dish, however we wished there was more background and history as to how this place came into being. So expect fantastic food without a lot of details. The first dish was a salad made with all local ingredients. It was so fresh and the dressing made with fresh dill was fantastic. The second dish was a ravioli with northern Italian cheese on a bed of butternut squash puree and brown butter. The pasta was SO delicate and the flavors complimented each other so well. The third dish was a 6 hour braised pork shoulder with ricotta gnocchi in a sauce with Calabrian chilis and I don't know what else. We have been to Italy and all the Italian restaurants in Cincinnati and never had anything like this. It was truly phenomenal. Dessert was a apple upside down cake served warm with whipped cream...fantastic. You bring your own wine, and Jordan is on it by never letting your glass get empty, pouring water, and clearing dishes. Service was so great and she is so friendly and accommodating. The cost was a very reasonable $100/pp and SO worth it. There is no menu, so you go in just devouring what Chef has prepared.
