I thought this place was great and real neighborhood gathering spot. A great addition straight from Mexico City. Honestly, I thought it was great because I was eating dinner across the street and I just happened to finish there and walk across to El Moro exactly when the line had died down for a second so I really only had to wait 10 minutes. Normally the line goes waaay down the sidewalk. The best way I can describe this place is it is the In-N-Out of churros. They're just constantly making them. Are they the best churros in the world? I don't know. But they're great because of they are so popular they can't stop making them so the ones you get are always fresh. I even thought it was weird the way they dusted them with the sugar which was just with tongs just thrown over them very quickly. I was expecting some special dusting mechanism that evenly coated them but nope, it's just a guy with tongs throwing sugar on top of them. An honest review - churros are mid, but the Oaxaqueno drink was spectacular. The wait was about 30 mins to order, and maybe 4-5 minutes to get the items. (On a Saturday at approximately 7:30pm) The menus are displayed on large TVs above the cashier but they're not set to one screen/menu. The screens alternate between menu and random pictures and logos, making it difficult to read and understand. We ordered two churros ($3 a piece), two dipping sauces ($2 a piece) and the vegan/non-dairy chocolate drink: Oaxaqueno for $5. Truly the churros were "mid," with one tasting a little like burnt oil. The dipping sauces didn't help either and at $2 a pop, it was just disappointing. The true star of the show was the chocolate drink. It had a lot of ice (but I don't mind, personally). It wasn't too sweet, you could definitely taste the chocolate, and it was very very refreshing. I will likely return (when the hype is finally over) and buy another drink. Churros are not worth the wait, people. Parking is horrendous - I have no true suggestions or tips besides good luck and bring some patience. read more

The hype and craze has died down and though they are still busy on the weekends, midweek it's a pretty short line and just a short wait to receive your order. The churros are pretty good and though they aren't as good of a deal when compared to the CDMX locations, it still scratches the itch, and is reasonably priced for LA. The strawberry milkshake tastes like real strawberry, not syrup, so that's amazing. I would get that again for sure. The churros *are* a little overcooked, but still enjoyable. Lots of sugar/cinnamon that you *will* get all over you we ordered the 3 dips: cajeta (caramel), condensed milk and chocolate/hazelnut. They were all tasty but condensed milk may have been the best! Order at the counter and they call your name at the other end. Our order came out *really* fast. They have their assembly line down! My friend and I stopped by on a Sunday around 6pm. The line wasn't too long even though we came a little after a Dodger game had just ended. There were a lot of people rocking their Dodger gear and enjoying their churros. We ordered two churros ($3 each) and an iced cafe de olla ($5 for a 16 oz). You can order dipping sauces like chocolate or condensed milk for an extra charge. The churros and the cafe de olla were both good! I wish the cafe de olla was a little sweeter. Great spot for churros! A singular churro is very long, so it's pretty filling and great to share. They offer a variety of dips too, my favorites are the chocolate and hazelnut. Churros: They definitely have mastered their technique of making these fresh hot, tasty and delicious churros. I love the variety of dips that are available. My family happened to get the condensed milk, caramel, and guava. I believe the seasonal flavor was supposed to be a mango. The cashier told me that there was no seasonal flavor available. There was a dip flavor that we did not get. It is chocolate and hazelnut. I figured that would be the same as getting Nutella. And for the fact that our family loves and uses Nutella fairly frequently. I felt like we should try the ones that we wouldn't typically have or use at home. The four piece churro was more than enough for the three of us. These churros are late and crispy. They are fried to perfection. They are freshly made and so, there was a tiny bit of a wait time between when we ordered our churros and when we received them. However, the weight is so short that it really takes no time at all, and you'll be enjoying your delectable treats within moments. Seating: seating is available both inside and outside on their patio. I love that they have this patio space. It makes it very comfortable for children and families to come and visit and to enjoy their treats. I can also very much appreciate the fact that the business keeps their patio and seating area inside very clean. I didn't have to worry about sitting on piles of cinnamon and sugar or trails of onions and meat from the tortas. Parking: This business is located on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Laveta. There's a tiny parking lot just behind the restaurant. Parking in the lot is free. There's street parking available as well. When it gets busy here, I can imagine that the parking lot feels a very quickly and that there's very little street parking. A lot of people just pick up their food items and leave. When we visited, parking was not an issue. I have to also mention that I really loved the artwork along the walls in the parking lot. Torta de pastor: My family and I got a torta. While the meat was flavorful, it was not exactly plentiful. It was inclusive of onion and cilantro. The bread was nothing special, unfortunately. It wasn't warm. It wasn't pressed like a Cubano. Obviously I was not expecting for the sandwich to be pressed or anything because then it wouldn't be a torta then it would be a cubano So, don't tear me a new one for that. It just didn't have any other special characteristics. I don't know exactly what else I was hoping for, but that just wasn't it. It didn't quite hit the spot. I love a good churro and this is a pretty good churro. The space itself is beautiful and you get to watch them make the churros right in front of you. So you can't argue they're not fresh! For me personally, I prefer a churro that's a little thicker. The flavor is solid but also felt a bit pricey for what it is. Like $2 for sweetened condensed milk on the side?! The cashier recommended that and it was a great recommendation taste-wise but not worth the cost in my opinion. The hot chocolate, on the other hand, was delicious and perfect for dipping. Went on Saturday at around 6:30 and waited over half an hour to get to the front of the line. The line was long from and it moved slowly. Wanted to see what the hype was about and was sadly disappointed. While in line, a worker walked through the line asking people if they wanted to take a picture of the menu as they had run out of them. Not sure if people were taking menus while in line earlier or if they take them after placing their orders at the front. Either way, hopefully they'll figure out out soon! You could tell that it recently opened since the service and entire process were relatively slow. I saw someone getting trained at the tortas making station. I had 2 churros for $3/each and the chocolate dipping sauce. We were able to find a table inside and waited maybe 5 minutes for our freshly made churros. I liked the fact that they were fresh and warm by the time we got them, but the churros themselves were nothing out of the ordinary. Decent crunch on the outside and cinnamon flavor. But again, not worth waiting over half an hour for it, and I don't think I'd go even without a line tbh. I was driving down Sunset in Echo Park after picking up my son from school when we noticed the sign outside that said churros and chocolate. We looked at each other and immediately knew we had to stop. I was not very familiar with the drink menu since a lot of the drinks are traditional Mexican beverages, but Anna at the front counter was honestly the sweetest. She took the time to explain everything to us and even offered my son a sample to taste. That kind of genuine kindness really stuck with me. I also did not expect to find anything savory at a churro place, but we saw a combo on the menu that came with a torta, two churros, and a drink. We chose the pork torta and a strawberries and cream style drink. Everything was so good. The bread on the torta was incredibly soft, the pork was well marinated and full of flavor, and you could really tell they use quality ingredients. The churros were amazing too. We have actually come to like vegan churros even more because they stay soft longer, and these were perfect. Place is super clean and refreshingly cool inside for those hot afternoons sometimes. What started as a random stop driving through Echo Park turned into such a great little find. Between the food and how kind Anna was to us, we definitely found a spot we will be coming back to. When I heard El Moro had come to LA but the wait times were 3+ hours, I was very skeptical. So many legit churrerías in the greater LA area, but I knew El Moro came highly rated. When we happened to drive by on Monday afternoon and saw the line was short, we pulled over and I hopped in line. I waited about 20 minutes before ordering, which gave me plenty of time to take in the menu and people watch while they enjoyed their orders. I got Combo 1 and the Francés (iced). I was hoping for the guava dip but they only had chocolate at that time. Daniel rang me up and was super helpful! I was happy to practice my Spanish with him and ask for his recommendations/favorites. I was quickly called and Elijah was bagging up my churros. He was friendly and kind! The my drank came up and I hopped back in the car and took off. Inside and outside seating options available. Everything was beautiful and clean! The star of the show was supposed to be the churros, but they ended up slightly overdone and not well-balanced. This new LA location is from a popular chain of Churrerias from Mexico City since 1935. These are Mexican churros per se. Designed with a chocolate dipping sauce in mind. Unfortunately, they lacked balance and tasted like they were left out too long. They were simply overdone and had no soft pillow center. They are also not very good when cold. Drinks-wise, their selection is okay. They were nothing spectacular for the prices they are charging. There are also ice creams if you fancy some contrast. Another item of interest is their Tortas, but they were also average and weren't of great value. This is Los Angeles after all, and not everything needs to be gentrified priced. Service can be haphazard as they are new and the crowds have been quite large on the weekends. Good but not great. It's a new, highly anticipated spot so expect to wait and have trouble finding parking. Their hours are generous so it might be best to go early or late. The churros were better than I expected. Soft on the inside with just the right crisp on the outside. Watching the churrero make them is pretty cool. Aside from churros, the menu features aguas frescas, chocolate (drinking chocolate), coffees, milkshakes and a couple of tortas for good measure. I tried the chocolate Mexicano but wasn't super impressed. I should have tried the champurrado, but that leaves the door open for a next time. The decor is adorable. Our last stop of the day, of course you can't forget about dessert. This place is famous in Mexico and I think it's the first US location. Parking can be quite tough so be prepared for that just due to the space in the surrounding area. Once you get in line as the line was kept out the door to ensure people inside weren't crammed in, you get great service. Very well lit interior and there is a window for you to see the whole process going down. They make the churros in a big wheel and cut them in portions based on your order size. We went with the 4 pack but added a single one on the side just in case. We got some chocolate dipping sauce, milk, and Mexican hot chocolate to pair with it. Pro tip, dipping the churro in the hot chocolate was way better than the chocolate dipping sauce. They also had live music outside on our visit which was a plus. El Moro is a chain of churrerías from Mexico City that first landed north of the border at Mercado González in Costa Mesa a few years ago. After months of delays, their first standalone store has opened in Echo Park. The former Patras Burgers has been given a makeover in all white and blue, in a clean, modern style reminiscent of Art Moderne and futuristic azulejo tiles. The Echo Park store has opened to the same long lines originally seen in Orange County: Even at midday Friday, what one would conceive as a slow time for a coffee-and-doughnuts analogue, I was met by a line of at least two dozen people, with more inside. It wouldn't have been so bad if the line didn't move at a pace that any gastropod could easily lap; it took twenty-five minutes to get to the one open register and place my order. I was puzzled why it should take so long to get cups of coffee or hot chocolate with strips of fried flour and water. Churros and chocolate should be almost immediate turnover, and I imagine that's how the Mexico City stores work. However, El Moro's Echo Park outpost is offering tortas (al pastor and carne asada), milkshakes, aguas frescas, coffee drinks, and ice cream sandwiches. Despite having plenty of busy staff behind the counter, service is slow, with tortas taking the better part of ten minutes each. While the Costa Mesa El Moro has two deep fryers, the Echo Park store apparently only has one -- the torta grill and espresso machine take up space, after all -- so churros come out much slower, too. In trying to be part King Taco and part Starbucks, they've gummed up the one thing they should have down to a science. One churro costs $3; four cost $11. They're thin and rather dry compared to the custardy Disneyland churros many Angelenos are familiar with, and they have no filling. Dipping sauces are $2 extra. (The $6 Moritos, a serving of mini churros, are a better value, in part because they're not as dry.) For me, they're nothing I find myself craving, certainly not to make a special trip for them and definitely not to spend a half-hour waiting in line for them. Really tasty freshly fried churros. They snuck in one extra to my order. Some bites can taste a bit oily. I chose the dark chocolate dip that had a great bittersweet taste. I got the Mexicano drink iced and I think it would've been better hot because it had a grainy mouthfeel. Prepare for a line but it moves quickly and so do tables that free up.
