Ever since I found out that La Casitas restaurant in Fremont had closed I was looking for a substitute just happened to go to Schaa's Lawnmower Sales & Services which is around the corner from the old La Casitas restaurant talked to Schaa's they told me the (*Cook) from La Casitas went and opened their own restaurant called El Rodeo. Ate there it was the same quality food I loved. Been coming back ever since. I get different things on the menu but I like their number one which is enchilada, chile relleno, and taco. One of the longest running restaurants that was Fremont's well known and loved Mexican food favorite was called La Casita. Unfortunately during Covid, they had to close. The family run business tried other things, but their heart was in serving the most delicious food, so they opened El Rodeo with the same family cook. You won't find better food or service than El Rodeo! I absolutely love their Chile rellenos. Nobody, and I mean nobody can make them like they do! Trust me, I tried them at almost every other Mexican restaurant I go to, and no one compares! They are known for their Mexican chicken soup amongst just about everything else that's on the menu. You will not be sorry! Please check them out. Also, if you enjoy a drink with your meal, they have excellent margaritas and a full bar. They are closed on Monday, and open Tuesday from 3-9 then 11:30-9 Wed-Sat & Sun 1-9. On a sidenote, they also own a restaurant two doors down, called Cabrillo Park Cafe that have excellent huge portion, breakfast and lunch! This family knows how to cook and treat their customers. Came here on Sunday night with my daughter. I love Mexican food and my Mexican friend stated this is the best place here in Fremont. It's a family owned restaurant and the service is excellent. I ordered the garlic shrimp plate which was absolutely delicious. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and spiced. My daughter can't eat too spicy but she enjoyed her food. The servers were extremely attentive too. They have two big screen TVs that everyone was watching which was very nice. Lots of family here. Love the interiors. El Rodeo is located in a strip mall next to Dollar Tree on Stevenson Blvd and appears to be a family-run place. The restaurant and bar has as old-timey western feel, complete with a saddle posed on one of the barstools. We sat at a booth next to a horse painting, and by the time I left, I was nostalgic for the old days when I used to have horses. The service was friendly, with several employees, including an efficient young lad with a professional manner, stopping to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. I ordered Sam's special, garlic chicken with cheesy scalloped potatoes that came with rice, beans, chopped green bell peppers, and tortillas. My husband ordered the fish tacos, which came with rice and beans, and we each added a side salad. The portions were large, and I brought most of my meal home. I would have loved to have seen Enchiladas Suizas on the menu, but they had only plain enchiladas and a seafood enchiladas. My husband loved his meal. Mine was perfectly fine, but I hankered for a sauce of some sort or maybe a bit of sour cream; of course, I ought to have ordered some on the side. I also had a margarita - can't go wrong there - and they make a well-balanced one. I really enjoy this spot and will keep coming back! Original: We were craving tex mex tonight and Yelp-ed our way to El Rodeo in Fremont. TL;DR The food was impressively delicious but the front of house & management are chaotic. For more, read the bad & the food below. Background: the restaurant is a bit small, only 15 tables or so. The bar takes up a lot of room. It is a full bar with full service at the bar. There is minimal outdoor seating (sidewalk seating, really) and once sat, the tables are a bit close together. Not a loud restaurant but an average volume. Good place for families, ADA accessible, lots of parking. The bad: We were put on a short waitlist when we arrived and were told it would be a 5 minute wait. 30 minutes later, we were finally sat. The manager came over around the 25 minute mark to let us know it would be 5 more minutes and he made a lot of excuses for why we waited. A note to any front of house staff anywhere: a simple apology and thank you for waiting go a long way. Excuses are off-putting. I myself was previously a server and front of house staff for a total of 7 years so I've been on the inside and I could tell that the front of house issues were largely managerial. The staff were all kind but disorganized and erratic. The manager dabbled in a bit of everything from bussing tables to seating guests to serving drinks, but he often appeared to create problems rather than solve them (case in point: he rushed to push two tables together and sent some glassware shattering to the ground). He and his staff were constantly dashing up to the host stand just to nervously look around at all the waiting customers. There were not many of us: two parties of 2, a party of 4, and a party of 6 were waiting. It felt like the front of house couldn't handle a short dinner rush. The good: After the wait and chaos to be seated, I had low expectations for the food. However, I was not just pleasantly surprised at the quality and flavor of our meals but I was actually impressed!! El Rodeo has some of the BEST seasoned chicken I've ever had. Both the grilled and shredded chicken were fantastic. The rice and beans are flavorful, not just a side to add bulk to your meal but actually delicious (another Yelper said the same thing in his review, he's right!). The hard shell tacos are a must-have, they appear deep fried and very crunchy. Their guacamole was clearly made fresh in-house and their salsa is a unique puree with a pleasant mild flavor. We left full and satisfied. Our waitress was great and got our orders correct. In fact, once we sat down at our table the service was smooth, friendly, and helpful. The food was fantastic and we will definitely be back for more. I only hope the managerial issues can be addressed before we're back again! read more

It was my first time there, but it is a favorite among my cousins who live in Fremont because the food is fantastic and the service is always excellent. We enjoyed a pitcher of margaritas and I was happy to see they also offered a non-alcoholic beer. We loved the appetizer nachos and chicken & rice soup. This is a family owned restaurant but what makes it stand out is that when you're at El Rodeo, the staff makes you feel like you're family too! Excellent service every time I visit! We had such a horrible experience with getting Chinese Food for Chinese New Year last year, this year, we opted to have Mexican! Due to the 5 stars on Yelp, we ended up at El Rodeo, which has as taken over the space previously occupied by Cut the Crab. They did a nice job with the decor and made good use of the large bar area. Once seated we were served chips and 2 kinds of salsa. The menu is a good size and contains a lot of staples as well as some specialty items. I got the seafood enchiladas which is a combo of shrimp and fish. I asked what kind of fish but never got an answer, so I assume it is tilapia. It was good with a tangy green sauce. I liked that they gave me all rice since I don't like beans. My husband got combo #1 which included a taco, chile releno and enchiladas. The taco, unfortunately was tasteless and dry. I had a bite and sadly it was just unseasoned meat inside of a fried taco shell. Luckily the enchiladas and the chile releno tasted better. It's the fantastic service you receive while dining there and since El Rodeo is the same owners I absolutely love this place. First time here (we've been meaning to try it) and I will return! The place was PACKED! The bar was filled with people having a good time servers everywhere it seems people know this place is good. We were seated in about 5 minutes. The only negative is the place is loud, but it's a packed restaurant what do I expect right? They bring everyone chips and 2 salsas both solid. After we ordered they brought us a small plate of their mole nachos fantastic (already what I'm getting next time) I ordered chimichangas one beef one chicken and the wife ordered Camarones rancheros. We were both so full and yet kept trying to finish. The person who sat us and 3 different servers came to check on us, the hardest working group of people, Fremont needs more places like this. My friends and I were on the hunt for a dinner place after being entirely let down by Olive Gardens lack of service and we stumbled upon this place. Let me just say, WOW!! We were blown away. This place is a hidden gem. I ordered the spicy shrimp fajitas (5/5) and the shrimp were cooked to absolute perfection. They were massive, succulent, and had the perfect snap to them. I honestly think these were the best shrimp fajitas I've EVER had. We also got the Roy's Special (5/5) which was a massive platter loaded with chicken and potatoes that were also super flavorful. They were similar to a chicken fajita dish, but the chicken was moist and delicious. I'd never have thought of pairing potatoes and chicken in that way but the potatoes soaked up all the chicken juices and were definitely the best part of the dish. The #2 combo was equally impressive (4/5). Crispy taco had the perfect crunch to it without being overly greasy. Their asada burrito was brimming with asada, which both my friends mentioned were super tasty. The dish was lacking a bit in the green department, but it definitely made up for it in flavor. Service was also top notch. We were constantly checked in on and brought water refills and chips/salsa refills. This place is going on my list of places I'm willing to venture farther away for because their food and service are 100% worth it. Color me majorly impressed!! We will be back here for sure! Coming from SoCal where the Mexican food is totally unrivaled, here's my honest review of El Rodeo. Went here with the fam on the way home after celebrating Easter/Resurrection Sunday at church and I have to give this place 4 stars. The food is actually really good here. The portions are surprisingly huge and the food is of great quality and very tasty. We ordered 3 chimichangas, one carne asada burrito (no beans), and 1 meat quesadilla all totaling $78. Yes, it's a little pricey, but I guess that's just the way it is here in the Bay Area with taco shops so I wasn't expecting anything less in terms of pricing. Anyway, the reason for giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because I did notice that in our food they were over generous with the rice and refried beans in the chimichangas as opposed to the carne asada. It was basically like eating a rice and refried bean chimichanga. Usually when taco shops are stingy with their meat, I would rate them much lower than I did here with El Rodeo. However, since their food was very good (I'm not even a rice-and-beans-in-my-burrito type of person) it didn't disappoint me as much because the rice and beans were actually good. But I get that the rice and bean fillers are responsible for the huge size of the burrito/chimichangas. If they had added more meat, then I would've given them 5 stars for sure. Just some advice/suggestions El Rodeo: if you guys stuff those burritos with meat and maintain that size all while making rice and beans an added option (basically what most socal taco shops specifically in San Diego do), I'm willing to bet you guys will absolutely be one of the best, if not, the best taco shop in all of the Bay Area. You guys have the quality and taste down. SoCal is known for having the best of the best Mexican food. El Rodeo is definitely capable of competing against SoCal if they make those few changes I mentioned in my personal opinion.
