Located across the street from AMC Norwalk 20, it was a convenient place to have a late lunch after watching an early movie. It's surprisingly spacious on the inside with plenty of seating. The menu is a bit confusing & overwhelming so we took a moment deciding what we were going to order. My Crew loves Mexican food, but mostly for the tasty meats, beans, rice & tortillas--not for the spicy sauces or the salsas--so we always have to stress that their orders need to be plain. When we try new places, there's always a bit of anxiety as to whether or not the order is going to be placed correctly. But the cashier seemed to really understand what we wanted & she was very friendly about it. The order came to our table in a timely manner & thankfully, it came as the boys had asked for it to. I asked my husby & my sons if they liked the taste & they all seemed to agree it was "okay". They compared it to another restaurant we frequent & made a general consensus that they prefer the other restaurant. My youngest son complained that the tortilla chips tasted burnt. Sorry. As for me, I ordered the Spicy Spareribs. I don't have any problem with spicy sauces and/or salsas & both are delicious here. While no expert on Mexican food, I enjoyed my food. It was nice & spicy & quite enjoyable. The meat was tender & the salsas tasted fresh to me. Although it was a pleasant experience, we will not be going out of our way to eat here again. I came here only because my husband was getting a haircut next door and when I came in I suddenly had that Vibe of stepping into grandma's house and I loved the fact that the food we're all pictured on the walls because I'm visual and the food that I ordered was as good as the photo that I saw initially so basically it was exactly as I expected. As I that waiting for my husband to finish and waited for my food a older Mexican lady gave me my dish on to the table and even laid it out for me as if it was ready for a picture. The best authentic Mexican food I've had, the joint is owned and operated for the last 23 years by this adorable elderly couple... they were so warm, and informative. We got the SUPER LOCO'S burritos, and omg they didn't disappoint. Fantastic first time experience. My husband had the tamales and chicken flautas. The sauce on the tamales was flavorful and the flautas were prepared perfectly. I had one al pastor taco and beef taquitos. The beef had so much more flavor than other places I've eaten. The portions were all generous and we probably over ordered. They provide chips at the table and have a salsa bar. The restrooms were clean and smelled pleasant. (A biggie for me!) All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I was under time constraints this afternoon, and this was one of the restaurants close to where I needed to be. Hence, my options were limited. El Taco Locco had all the indications of an authentic Mexican restaurant. Instead of servers working to go to school, there were older Hispanic ladies who spoke fluent Spanish. I was thoroughly prepared to flaunt my extensive knowledge of the Spanish language: por favor (please) dos (two) fish (fish) tacos (tacos). But alas, it wasn't necessary. I admit, I was still in trepidation because there were copious photos of various dishes, none of which were fish tacos. But I calculated that risk by considering the fact that I had to be done with lunch in 15-20 minutes. Clearly, not enough time to wander about. The fish taco consisted of one small piece of fish on top of 2 small tortillas. It was garnished with chopped cabbage and chopped tomatoes. That was it. No creamy white sauce that embellishes other fish tacos I've eaten. And to make the matters worse, the battered fish was bland. The side order of guacamole I ordered may have been out of a can. It had too much water content. The server brought a bottle of tarter sauce, which I promptly used to resort to damage control. It made it worse. The salsa bar had a variety of salsas, none of which were palatable. I left El Taco Locco in utter defeat and self loathing for paying for flavorless food in money and calorie quota. read more

Well it's the first time I try this place and they serve plenty of chips & pick your own salsa from the salsa bar. The chips didn't feel all too fresh (not as crispy). I waited a while for my torta. At least 15-20min & it was just me. The place had no AC. Not sure if that was just my luck it wasn't working today. But it was 93 degrees outside. Inside? Hotter, even with ceiling fans & the back door with the screen didn't help. I saw quite a few customers fanning themselves. It looked half busy. When the torta de milanesa arrived, the meat inside was hot. Which is good. So the torta wasn't terrible. It was good. But I didn't really enjoy it because it was too hot in there so I ate fast and got the heck out of there. If I ever decide to go back and give it a second chance, I'll be walking all the way in before ordering just to check if the AC is working & if it's cool. Otherwise forget it. read more

If you're looking for some good Mexican food, this place isn't bad. The cheese enchilada plate was good. The carnitas taco was also good (add onions and the green salsa). The chile relleno had a good flavor to it, but needed more cheese and the breading more crispy. The red chunky salsa in the salsa bar was my favorite. This is my go to place on Sundays I usually go 3 of 4 weeks for some pozole I always get mine with the pata which is awesome. The chorizo burrito are also plentiful my boy loves them it's always his go to plate. There chili verde burrito is always a must as well full of meat and green sauce is a bit spicy but perfect when you eat it with chips. This is a family owned restaurant they actually know me by name and were always greeted with smiles and it's nice to start your Sunday off with good breakfast friendly staff and top off your breakfast with ice cold beer which I normally don't drink but it's so good and worth every penny.
