I don't write Yelp reviews often but I have to remember this place somehow, in case I am ever around the area again. I just ate here and it was even better than the reviews said. Food came out quickly. I got the flautas and they were super rich, flavorful, yet light at the same time. Was trying my best to savor but they quickly melted in my mouth and disappeared. It's one of those dangerous foods where your stomach is telling you you're full but your mouth wants to keep eating. Complimentary chips and salsa also delicious. I have been going to Taco Rico for well over 15 years.... I grew up going and recommending to friends and family who all ended up loving it also... I have always loved the people that work there and the food is always amazing.. but today I'm sad to say that I probably will not be going back.. the owners niece is working the register and apparently is the manager while her aunt is on vacation... First of all the niece has a very unfriendly rude attitude. So as I ordered my food, I gave her the same attitude she gave out.. I can see she didn't like it, but it's what she was giving out... So I ordered my pozole, And when trying to cut the meat in the bowl, it was pretty ruff and hard to cut, which in result the bowl flipped over burning my stomach and leg.. I ran to the restroom to clean up but the burn is already there... so I'm sitting back at my seat and the server cleaned up the spill.. but not one person to offer a rag for myself or to refill my bowl or even if I'm ok. So i look over and see the niece just watching. So i asked her is there a way to get a refill? With a terrible attitude she replied no I can't. I said well the meat was too tuff to cut and it spilled.. she said "Yeah i seen you struggling to cut it" I said so then you know the meat is too ruff... she replied "well you should've asked for a knife or put the meat on the plate and cut it" I said in all my life i have never had to remove the meat from my soup to cut it and eat it, it's a soup... she said "well u should have asked for a knife" I told her that is not how soup is to be eaten.. at that point i asked her if i could just get a refund, and she was again very rude telling me " no i can't" i said so i just wasted my money on ruff not fully cooked meat and got burned on my stomach and leg !? The fact that she began by telling me she seen me struggling to cut this ruff meat indicated she could have for one been helpful at that point and then when she seen get burned even offer a wet rag or refill.. there was absolutely NO Courtesy.. she was rude from the minute we got there and i literally was in tears when i was burned with this soup... In any other restaurant i would have been offered a refill or something... and even here, i know the owner herself would have been allot more courteous or even just ask if i was ok.. so i walked out VERY upset and let it go.. but the burn on my stomach hurts really bad so i called to ask to speak to the manager and this rude niece answered and said she is the manager. I asked when the owner would be back and she said next week.. i then explained in a respectful tone but obviously still upset, i said well what happened today was not ok.. she hung up on me!!!! LoL!!! I called back to get her name and she didn't pickup then i called again and she picked up n hung up right away... LOL wow!!! it makes me sad because this is one of my local favorites, and i just don't see myself coming back now... i wasted my money on something i didn't get one bite of and was burned on My stomach and leg and all she says was yeah i seen you struggling with the meat you should have got a knife.. oh yeah she said i should have used the plate under the bowl to cut my meat lol Did she ever think maybe it wasn't cooked all the way if it was that hard to cut!?!?!! Very rude!!! To the owner, i know you would have handled this situation in a way more appropriate and friendly manner.. this was so rude and very unprofessional, and maybe you should reconsider your manager when you are not in.. even if it is family, she is not cut out for it! You never know what kind of sauce you're going to get with a wet burrito because every place tries different spices to make their sauce unique. El Taco Rico's red sauce was really good, and the meat was moist. The flavor and spices in the burrito was just right. The staff was friendly, making sure everyone got their fill of free chips and salsa. The place was super busy, yet the one woman bringing out all the dishes knew exactly what everyone in the restaurant had ordered! She was amazing! Their prices are reasonable. I have been going to El taco Rico with my family forever. I I got to say it's hands down the best. Not only is it a family owned business but there service is always great! They have great hospitality, and not to mention AMAZING FOOD!!! I love their salsa so much. There food is always good, you never have to send it back. They never fail to make great food. Super friendly staff! Everyone here greets you with a smile. The whole vibe is warm and welcoming. I ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras. Full of flavor, and the portions are a fair size! Everything was very well laid out on the plate, it looks like they care about presentation too. There are multiple tv's inside with different programming, but their volume isn't too loud. The tv's don't distract from the experience and only add to the "at-home" atmosphere. The food here is very good, the smell though when you walk in kind of messes with you're appetite. It never used to smell that strange but the past few times I've gone for food it has a very strong, distasteful odor. Also the lady who works the register doesn't like grabbing salsas and such side items once you pick up to go. She always tried to avoid helping you further when you ask for extra. This place gets busy so try to avoid the lunch rush. The food is good, slightly above average for Mexican food in Southern California. They aren't quick to offer refills. The chips and salsa is good; the chips are fresh and delicious, the salsa is decent but they serve it in small bowls, and you quickly run out of salsa. Have to have it refilled before the meal comes and then again when the meal arrives. While I was here, they experienced a power outage, and this did not phase any customers, they kept coming. They cook on gas stoves and had some back-up power to get through the necessities, opened the front and back door for ventilation (worked great) and kept on keeping on. All-in-all, I would come back again but may be inclined to try other new places in the area just because it wasn't off-the-charts good. read more
