I ordered takeout and it was ready in 15 mins. We enjoyed every dish which was the house special chow mein, fatty pork, & green beans and chicken. The restaurant has a small dining room The eatery itself is a typical hole in the wall type chinese joint. Foodwise... Very good! Just take all your traditional chinese dishes and substitute the meat with tofu made 'meats' and what do you get, an optional array of looks and flavors to enjoy. Im a definite meat guy and there was a time when i did go plant based heavy...just like all the other wierdoes who moved into their 'personal' diets. One of the few Chinese Vegetarian restaurants in SF and the Bay Area in general. They seem to have really good business since it immediately filled up after opening and people kept coming in, so make sure to come early otherwise you'll have to wait for one of just eight tables. Service is good and quick; the food all came within 15 minutes or so. The portions were pretty small for the appetizers; each piece of the veggie duck was actually only maybe two inches across and there was basically no mushroom feeling, so it felt really stingy. Same with the shark fin soup we ordered, such a small bowl for $14! The golden knots were pretty tasty and we saw a lot of other tables also ordering it. The bean curd skin was pretty tender and delicate still, and the veggies were crisp and fresh. We also enjoyed the #60 fried soft tofu and fresh mushroom, although the number of tofu cubes they gave was also pretty stingy. The spinach & pine nut fried rice was good: the rice was QQ and you could still see all the individual grains. There are dozens, perhaps scores of good vegetarian Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, but Enjoy continues to be my favorite. As always the service was prompt, the food delicious, and prices fairly reasonable (for SF anyway). This time I had the Veggie Chow Mein with BBQ Veggie Pork and Veggie Ham. Great ratio of proteins to greens, sizable portions, and fast friendly service. We still like to get the walnut "prawns" for new friends and family just to see a) how much they love the dish and b) how they can't believe it's vegetarian. The only salty item (and we love it) is the crispy salty tofu appetizer which is a winner. The house noodles are also a solid choice. In town from Portland, and this place was a delicious surprise. We had spring rolls and dumplings to start. The dumplings were really good, and the dipping sauce was A-MAZ-ING!! My first time at Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant was delightful as my meals were delicious, fresh, tasty, and satisfying. I got there at 5pm at the opening time and I got seated at a table of my choice. Tried the Cuttlefish w/ Chinese Satay Sauce, absolutely loved the sauce. If you're picky about texture, the cuttlefish was a bit rubbery compared to other mock meats but I didn't mind it. Everything cooked perfectly. Also had the spinach and pine nuts rice. I thought it was perfect, and the person I was with thought it was a tad bit bland but still good. I stopped by to order takeout lunch while I was in the Sunset right around when they opened at 11am, no one was ahead of us. The worker taking our order estimated 10 minutes but it was done in 5. I tried the fried wonton which was crunchy, and a lot more brittle than the same dish when I've had it at other restaurants. It contained mushrooms and vegetables and I thought it was pretty decent, also came with a sweet sauce. I also got the orange chicken with broccoli The broccoli definitely needs more seasoning, mostly tastes steamed or less cooked than I like it. The vegetarian chicken was fine, tasted alright but would've preferred stronger flavor/seasoning. Also, it was not that crispy especially after marinating in the sauce/liquid in the dish. If you like fruit though, they do throw in orange slices. Once in a while when I don't feel like cooking, but want some vegetarian Chinese food, I look to Enjoy Vegetarian to satisfy that need. I have always loved their basil fried rice with pinenuts. Delicious. Recently tried their sliced fatty pork with cabbage, and it was pretty tasty, plus I was like woah, the mock pork slices looks like real pork. Anyhoo, the other dishes I ordered was good, too. I realized on a recent order that I got 3 tofu dishes. My least favorite turned out to be the mapo tofu, but that's because my friend (I feel like she's my aunt) Katie, makes this dish for me at her restaurant and I love it, so it's hard for me to like other folks' mapo after that. The pumpkin, tofu, and string bean dish is delicious though. I love how the pumpkin taste so yummy. I also really enjoy the vegetarian egg rolls. I've been coming here 20 years. I'm so happy this place has stayed in business. If you are vegetarian or prefer vegetarian, you need to come here. There is something so nice and so much better about a dedicated vegetarian restaurant. There is a great variety of food. Today for lunch I had the twice cooked "pork" and brown rice. It was delicious. I've also had the eggplant and "sea bass" which is also great. I think they may make their own veggie "meat". The basil definitely dominates the taste, so if you aren't a fan of basil, I would recommend something else, but if you do like basil, this is great.
