Reservation process went very smoothly and the new garden area is attractive. I was (rightly) concerned that such a big expansion would impact the quality of the Epic Oyster that we used to go to a lot when it first opened. The oysters were delicious as always. We also got some (v.pricey) small plates. The ribs were delicious. The soup in a bread bowl and the empanadas were filled with seafood that was so bland, my cat would pass on it. The bang bang shrimp was mushy. We cut our losses and passed on ordering any more food. I think Epic is resting on it's past reputation, and , unfortunately, has lost it's edge. read more

The good: The oysters were definitely the standout star at this restaurant. We had a tasting of 4 local oyster varieties- all delicious. The clam chowder was good. We also ordered the tuna tartare special, shrimp mozambique, and the rice bowl with salmon. The tartare was good and the shrimp and salmon dishes were interesting. The drinks were generous. Sometimes you encounter a totally overpriced place and are like, WTF. This is not one of them. Yes, this place is EXPENSIVE, BUT damn the food is good!! We had the flash fried and grilled oysters. Flavors were spectacular. We had a great waiter who had a self deprecating humor but sacrilege and sarcastic with a smile. The atmosphere is tops for a romantic date. Old club car is the bar. Didn't even get to try the food because my friends and I didn't stay. I was with a group of girlfriends visiting from Boston the weekend of July 20th so we thought we would try this restaurant. One of my friends asked if they had room for a table of 7. The hostess literally scoffed in our faces and said no. We then asked if we could sit at the bar so I asked her what was the best way to get to it not ever having been to this place before. The hostess proceeded to look at me like I was an idiot and point very forcibly and rudely to around the corner from her. Not only was the staff rude but also the atmosphere and the customers there. The whole bar was making comments about why we were there and older men looking at us like we were meat on sticks. Yes, we were the youngest people in there being in our early and late 20's but that doesn't give you the right to be rude and disrespectful to customers who don't fit into your normal demographic. People are people. Least to say we left immediately and will not be returning to such an establishment. read more

The short version- it took two hours from the time we sat down to when we got our entrees. When the food finally came it was disappointing, good but not great, small portions. The kitchen is tiny and they can't keep up with the number of tables. The clam chowder was ok, a bit too salty, light on the clams. Then we ordered- clams linguine and fisherman's stew. After an hour we asked after our food and kept getting the run around "it will be right out." Around the hour and a half mark the waitress told us they make every order from scratch, so sit tight. First off, you should tell people this up front. Second, I could make clams linguine from scratch in half an hour. Two hours in - I get a small bowl of nothing special clams linguine, clams on the small side, with one tiny slice of bread, and oily over garlicky broth. The fisherman's stew was better, decent portions and had a nice saffron broth. They waived off my concern about how long it took with a cheery "sorry about that, see you soon." No, next time I have two hours for dinner, I would be better served to dig the damn clams myself and actually have decent portions, thank you very much. read more

They get five stars only because I can't give them six. We ate at the bar, Shauna was our server and she was amazing. The Berkshire IPA we had was very good. I ordered the Oysters Moscow, raw oysters w/ caviar and creme fraiche. It would have been been easy to overpower the oysters but the amount of caviar and creme fraiche they put on was minimal and perfect (although I'm not sure you can really overdo either oysters or creme fraiche). On to Oysters Rockefeller which were very tasty. The crab empanadas were to die for. Light, crispy, tasty, decadent. They lobster cocktail was an entire chilled chicken lobster in a martini glass over seaweed salad. The only thing I'd have done differently was perhaps cut the tail into a couple more pieces and served it w/ melted butter (which they brought us). Things got even better when they brought out the Bang Bang shrimp which were delicious. The clincher though, was the shrimp Mozambique. I wasn't even going to order it but my partner asked Shauna if there was something we should order that we might be missing out on. Shauna asked one of the guys behind the bar and he suggested Shrimp Mozambique. I have had SM before and generally found them to be bland and greasy but we decided to take the advice. They were amazing, probably one of the best shrimp dishes I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfect flavoring, just the right amount of spicyness and a broth I would have sucked up with a straw if there was one to be had. Since there wasn't, I looked around and made sure no one was watching and I drank it out of the bowl. I will say that this was one of my favorite dining experiences in a very long time. This place is the real deal and we have enjoyed each visit immensely. Yes the place is small so the volume can be a bit loud. Because it is small with minimal indoor seating, should the weather turn and you are sitting outside there is no other place to seat you. Also because it is on the small side, groups over six have less options to sit. There is usually a wide variety of age diners there as well so it is a bit insulting to read the review from the twenty something female who portrayed a scene of a bar filled with old guys leering at them. Perhaps they were just curious who was making all the noise ar the entrance to the bar area? If those factors don't work for you please don't come anyway and write a bad review because you want/expect what they aren't able to give you. I find it highly offensive to write a bad review of a restaurant without experiencing a full meal there. At its core, this is a fun and friendly place where fresh and well prepared menu items are consistently tasty and cooked perfectly. There is a fun and hometown feel to it and if you don't know anyone when you arrive at the bar, you will by the time you leave. The staff works hard to ensure that each patron has a good dining experience and they do a heck of a job doing so. If you are looking for good food with a fun atmosphere in a smaller place, Epic will not disappoint. read more

Came in on a Saturday Night- summer on Cape. We only waited about 15 minutes to be seated outside. I heard the outside seating was added for summer and I think it is perhaps too much for the kitchen to handle. Long story short, the food was good, but dinner took more than two hours. We waited forever for food and another 30 minutes to get the check (and I left my card with the waitress at the start of our meal). The check was accidentally combined with another table and we waited for it to be sorted out after the two hour meal. Loved the fish stew-flavorful and delicious. Oysters were fantastic and I loved the seaweed presentation. Got Wellfleets and they didn't disappoint. Others at the table got clams and pasta, the sauce was meh, maybe a little under-seasoned. Friend got a dish that came with rice and the rice was clumpy and cold. Not kinda warm-it was cold. I would go back off season and sit inside, but not peak summer and never outside again despite how nice the atmosphere. read more

Nice place, a converted diner The raw bar is the main attraction with a variety of oysters. Ordered a selection which were fine. Unfortunately ordered the Azorean Seafood Stew, which lists clams,mussels,fish,shrimp and calamari in a saffron base But the waitress neglected to mention that they were out of calamari, which was a disappointment, when I received it without calamari. When I mentioned it she stated she forgot to tell me! After that my husband and I felt like we were rushed out Would have been nice to have been offered something else since I was really craving calamari. Fabulous find! Just opened in June. Tiny bar/restaurant with a long bar and 8 tables. Very local vibe, everyone friendly. Food was great! Bang Bang Shrimp & Azorean Fishermans Stew. Also had clam chowda and oysters (from Falmouth!). Great meal, generous, strong drinks! I would recommend a reservation. We did not have one but the lovely hostess told us to stand at the bar with our drinks and she & the bartenders steered us to customers finishing up so we could snag their seats! At first parking looked like a deal breaker because there were no spots left at all. But a couple people left at once and all was well. There is a homey yet sophisticated feel to the place as soon as you walk in. We sat outside and mainly ordered small plates. Cocktails were STRONG but good. Oysters and shrimp cocktail were excellent. Bread with honey butter and Kim chi: outstanding. Clam chowder, crab dip and bok choy: forgettable. Everything seemed to need some salt, particularly the bok choy. Service speed was a little uneven but our server Ashlyn was delightful. We've been to the Epic Oyster twice with friends, so we've tried quite a few of their dishes, First, they need to lose the disco music. Staying Alive by The Bee Gees is not what I want to hear during dinner. It's very small - seating for 20, plus a bar. The poor waiter barely fit between the tables and it noisy, but since it's so small you would expect that. The Bang, Bang Shrimp, Fishermans Stew, and Cod with chourico were all delicious. Choices of oysters were good. We sampled a few and they were all nice. Lobster bisque just okay, and lobster roll was full of mayo and not a lot of meat. Not sure what the fuss was about, but their old bay chips were just okay. The rice bowl with chicken or the crab dip were fine. I was hoping they would do something different with their "stuffie", but it was no different that what you would pick up in the market. We live just 5 minutes away and I really want this place to work. I'm sure we'll be back a few times during the winter. read more

Love Epic Oyster--top notch seafood, service, atmosphere. We stopped in during Road Race weekend for quick appetizer of 10 fantastic oysters, a couple of beers & a couple glasses of wine. A little shocked to order a 16 oz. draft (Berkshire IPA) and get a Fenway Park price of $9.00 a beer. Wouldn't mind so much, but I didn't see any draft beer prices listed on the menu, hence, buyer beware. If you're willing to drop $100 bucks on 3 draft beers, 2 glasses of wine & 10 Oysters, then it seems they may be catering this summer toward the money-is-no-object crowd. read more

We visited Epic Oyster in December and had a delightful happy with oysters and drinks. We came back in June and ordered a more full meal. First, I'm happy to get charged a bunch for good oysters. Epic Oysters were awesome. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal fell totally flat, poor quality and taste, with mediocre service. Our bill for 5 was almost $400. That's fine with killer food and service, but the rest of our dishes were so below par, we were really pissed. The buffalo cauliflower was a joke - could have been sauce from Costco. The empanada was probably some frozen thing that had no taste. The menu was limited on other fish. Also, paying $400 including tip and getting service a plastic water glass with half of our dishes on paper plates... come on. We DO NOT recommend this place OTHER THAN for oysters and maybe an overprice drink because the atmosphere is nice. I had heard wonderful things about this new restaurant close to home and I had read a favorable review in the Cape newspaper. Had trouble getting a reservation, another good sign. So, I really wanted to like it. But, completely disappointed. Our table was just inside the front door with people bustling by, people waiting, and a high level of noise. The table was hardly large enough for cocktails. I ordered two appetizers: lobster bisque and mussels. Both were completely tasteless, and the bisque had an oddly sweet flavor, nothing like any seafood, let alone lobster. The mussels were undersized, overlooked, and without taste. One of my dinner companions had the clam chowder which he proclaimed barely passable. Overall, a real disappointment. I'll probably try again in a few months hoping for improvement. But, for now, I'd suggest waiting a bit. read more

Don't go if you have food allergies and need to ask for any adjustments (even minor) to their menu. I have a gluten allergy and the waiter told us that the chef was unwilling to remove an item from anything to make it gluten free. My options were raw oysters, a salad or a shrimp dish. This newer restaurant is a welcome alternative to the Lobster Trap (which I adore, but often gets so busy --even in the winter --that waiting 30-40 mins on weekend evenings is commonplace). The Lobster Mac & Cheese was fantastic, as was the Bang Bang Shrimp. The staff were all friendly and seemingly down to earth, making the Stepford (Falmouth) Wives presence in the dining room on Saturday night a bit more palatable. As a seasonal local, I'm torn between sharing this secret, and thus increasing crowds fighting for the tiny space, and wanting to let everyone know in order for it to succeed in the long haul, all for purely selfish reasons. We had been to this spot in its last two or three iterations as the Tin Man and other diners. Someone in my neighborhood here tipped us to this new ownership and menu and, knowing how small it was, we made a reservation a week out. It exceeded expectations. The Piri Piri chicken was perfectly cooked and flavorful, with a chili sauce with just enough heat. Great veggies and sweet potato fries. The spare ribs were insanely good. Period. The shrimp Mozambique, perfect. Garlicky. Saucy. Yummy. The cheese with chili and grilled corn bread, more of a mild and subtle pleasure. My wife had the crab cakes and loved them. Service was friendly, professional, attentive, warm, and homey. The owner brought our dishes out and followed up personally. All this and complimentary brownie bites. Dang! The restored dining car as a bar and small table area is nicely renovated and a welcoming spot. We wish them many happy and successful years, if only so we can look forward to having such a unique and delicious treat nearby. read more

Visited for the first time on Saturday. Solid and imaginative menu. Not only do they feature kimchi they make their own. Seafood is the priority but sufficient alternatives. We had delicious fried oysters. I had this wagyu beef rice bowl. Rice bowls are a thing for me. We make them at home. Well executed. My wife had salmon with her salad. Me, I would have marinated my salmon in miso before broiling so I found it a bit plain but it was we'll assembled. I'm just not a plain salmon fan. The place is tiny and the bar area is very tight. But we did get a spot at the bar (for three) after about 40 minutes so a seat without a reservation is do-able. Pleasantly surprised with wine-by-glass prices compared to some of our other local haunts. Good cocktails too. read more
