Skirt steak with mashed potatoes and hot sauce & honey brussel sprouts
    Taniesha C.

From time to time I like to pick random spots to try via Grubhub and today it happened to be Evelyn's Kitchen. Idk who Evelyn is or where she's from but I'd like to thank her for the quality food I just ate! I ordered the skirt steak meal with mashed potatoes and hot sauce and honey brussel sprouts. When I ordered via grubhub i forgot to mentioned how I wanted the steak but it didn't matter, it was near perfectly cooked and very very well seasoned. The mashed potatoes were nice and dense like I like em, once again perfectly seasoned. My one and only complaint is the brussel sprouts, I love me some brussel sprouts but Jesus Christo these things were so spicy! I like spicy food but my mouth is on literal fire! Other than that, delivery time was quick and my food was still piping hot when I received it! They will have a repeat customer with me! Edited to add that I also ordered a brownie that I'm just now eating and this shit is phenomenal! I only ate a third of it but will be indulging for the rest of the week

I FOUND MY NEW FAVORITE! I was really happy and satisfied with the food that was delivered to me last Wednesday afternoon. Thumbs up to how they plate the food, so presentable and neat! It obviously show how these people has passion for their work and how to deliver good customer service. Only few restaurant will do the same thing so good job guys! So excited for future orders with you!! I had the Roasted Chicken Wings with Sweet Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts which was really good especially the sweet potato!! If they can cook the brussels sprouts more, that would be perfect!! And oh by the way, don't forget to print more take out menus next time. Thanks, Evelyn's Kitchen!

Has Evelyn lost it? I have not paid a visit to this spot since I lived in the neighborhood over 7 years ago. I loved the Lemon Pepper wings and the banana pudding pudgies are a must-have! Prices on the pudgies haven't changed in all this time! But the Lemon Pepper wings were overcooked, dry and flavorless. Nothing about the lemon pepper wings were lemon pepper. I definitely saw specks of pepper but didn't taste it (do I have covid?!) The coconut rice was okay, but the winner was the spinach... the only thing I ate on my $20 plate. The other entree, also lemon pepper had a side of mash (no flavor) and Mac (ehhhh... verbatim review). Definitely would've been happier with a No. 2 at McDonalds for a fraction of the price.

There are simply no words to describe the amazing feast presented to us last night at the Chef's Table at Evelyn's Kitchen. Starting with the drink.. the "Secret" Punch was delicious. Huge chunks of strawberry and basil leaves made this the perfect thirst quencher for a warm Summer night. Now, for the food.... from the perfectly selected cheese and crackers onto the salad, salmon, shrimp and fillet.. the food was cooked perfectly and the presentation simply stellar. Concluding the meal was the a selection of the world famous pudgies. I wish I could say I had a favorite, and at this point my favorite is the coconut, but had you had asked me a few months ago I would have said the banana pudding. Everything was just so good I cant pick just one thing I would rave about... hence the reason I am at a loss for words. You are doing yourself a disservice if you have never stopped in or ordered from Evelyn's kitchen. Although there is no formal seating, there is a chefs table that can be booked in advance and there is always catering and the dependable "to-go" or delivery option. Bottom line, whatever your dietary restrictions Ayala and her crew aim to please and accommodate... so there is NO EXCUSE to miss out on this hidden gem of Harlem.

The baked chicken, string beans and Mac (so delicious)

Love love Love Evelyn's Kitchen!!!! Used them to cater a special event I had for my family a few weeks ago and everything I ordered was amazing. My family couldn't stop talking about the food. I ordered the glazed salmon and coconut rice with string beans, which has been my favorite meal since being introduced to the restaurant. Also had baked chicken with Mac and cheese and spinach . I can't stay thank you enough for helping me accommodate 30 ppl and having such an amazing staff. I will definitely be recommending and keeping them 1st in mind when needing some food for big events or just something to grab that's tasty. Mac and cheese had just the right amount of cheese and let me tell you about that coconut riceeeeee--- with real coconut mixed into it. Ugh, i was trying to make more room but was so stuffed. My family members said the chicken was juicy and fresh, which made me happy, seeing how I didn't want to waste money on having food catered and it taste like it's been sitting. 1st time having food catered and it won't be my last as long as I'm using Evelyn's Kitchen!!!!

    Steak salad. Boss.

I walked in drenched in sweat, determined to find this abyss of awesomeness and was greeted with a mint lemonade and a banana pudding pudgie (on the house? for real?) and I kind of knew I was in heaven. Ayala who owns Evelyn's (her grandmother) Kitchen is probably one of the chillest, nicest business owners I've ever met. This girl has some serious street cred. I couldn't believe I was on 1st and 118th and ordering dessert instead of an East Harlem specialty. My eyes darted over to the savory menu - because lets be honest I dont really eat sweets except these - and after hearing "steak sandwich" my stomach grumbled. Walked out with a bag of stuff to disseminate to all of my friends and a steak salad (thanks for saving me the calories). Originally, I had the crumble at an Edible Manhattan event and through all the savory food this was the one bite I could recall. It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't dry - literally perfection. I feel personally obligated to not only tell all of my friends about it, but to be a cheerleader for EK and rave about their desserts. I can't remember a time in my life where I've felt better about exerting so much effort into anything than my walk to East Harlem to nosh on some serious delectable goodness from EK. AND, she rents out the chef table for Sunday games (lady put a flat screen on the wall)! It seats 8, but its oh so perfect, super clean and I can't wait to see this store just explode in the upcoming months. GO. GO. GO. GO.

So much has changed since my last review... First off they now have regular and comprehensive hours. They offer lunch, dinner, coffee and a pretty cool selection of desserts. Everything looks and tastes amazing. Evelyn's is good at what they do and you can tell they are passionate about doing it correctly. Not really big enough to comfortably dine in but if you insist, there is a table that has 3 chairs and there's also some window seating. So while Ev's might not be as cheap as some ppl would (stereotypically) expect a place in East Harlem to be, please keep in mind that uptown is still part of Manhattan and the overhead to run a business is still pretty high. Also the care and investment made in every detail is so worth the prices. So why only 4 stars instead of 5? Because I was there during an employee review and it was so harsh that I was embarrassed for the guy being reviewed. Im a fan of the food and the service but Im never a fan of business matters being made public. It was uncomfortable to hear.

Sirircha wings, mac & cheese, & broccoli
    A W.

I went yesterday, and had the sirirarcha wings, Mac & cheese & broccoli. Everything was good. The wings are spicy but have a sweet taste to them. Mac and cheese is creamy. The broccoli also has a sweetness to them, but fresh. Had a banana pudding pudgie at the store, and found it good. I'd buy again.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit left me feeling deeply uncomfortable and unwelcome. While preparing my order, an employee stopped me and asked, "Question for you... why are you wearing box braids? You're not Black, and I thought it was only a Black people thing." This comment was completely inappropriate, unsolicited, and had no place in a customer interaction. As a Filipino woman, I found this remark not only disrespectful but also culturally insensitive. Braiding has existed across many cultures, including Filipino culture, for generations. Regardless, it is never appropriate for an employee to question a customer's appearance or make assumptions about their ethnicity or cultural identity. I came in simply to enjoy my morning coffee, not to be interrogated or judged based on how I look. No customer should be made to feel uncomfortable, singled out, or stereotyped while patronizing a business. I hope management takes this matter seriously and provides additional training to ensure all customers are treated with professionalism, respect, and without prejudice. I genuinely enjoyed supporting this business, which makes this experience all the more disappointing

I heard they have a good rainbow cookie! I left with 8 rainbow cookies and 1 slice of coconut cake. I schlepped them on the L, then the C, and all the way to the UWS. I put the box in the refrigerator and sampled the goods a little later. The rainbow cookies are fine but the coconut cake is where it's at! It's 3 layers with thick icing and lots of coconut. Everything was delicious and it held up very well with our travel back to Koreatown area and the flight home to Florida. I have a core memory of cheesecake that was crust less from my childhood that my mom used to get and keep in the freezer. I've been searching for that unique flavor and this is it! I had to run to work after an appointment so I ordered for takeout. The person taking my order was friendly. I opted for the Lumberjack and a black cold brew. I received the drink very quickly, with a short wait for the sandwich. While waiting, one member of the staff stocking up supplies on the side started chatting with me and then she offered to check up on my sandwich. She came out with it shortly thereafter. She was very friendly and helpful. The sandwich held up well during my 15-minute commute to the office. It is a really indulgent sandwich, with each bite revealing the sweetness and butteriness of the maple crueller, the saltiness of the thick cut bacon, and the savoriness of the cheese and the eggs as the yolks popped. I sipped the cold brew in between bites to cut the richness. It was a very satisfying meal. The Lumberjack is not something I would recommend you eat every day, but it's good as an occasional treat. The service was absolutely impeccable, and everyone I interacted with was warm, friendly, and delightful. When I got home, I had half of the Rocky Road cookie with a cup of tea, and it was incredible. The cookie was large and chunky but still perfectly enjoyable -- not heavy or overwhelming. It literally melted in my mouth. The chocolate was rich and smooth, and every bite was just delicious. The next morning, I tried the blueberry muffin, and it was just as impressive. I will definitely be back for more cookies. This was such a wonderful find, and I'm so happy my coworker introduced me to this place!
