Can I give this place 1 billion stars please!!!! I've worked in East Harlem for over 3 years, and my co-workers and I are always complaining that there is no variety for lunch. Enter EK! When I first started working in this neighborhood EK was always a mystery to me. It looked like yummy things were happening there, but we couldn't go inside. Now it's a full on store front with the most delicious food and desserts I have had in a long time. The food: EK has a lunch and dinner menu that are sooooo good. I have had the skirt steak sandwich twice for lunch and it's sooooo good. Messy, but AMAZING!!! It packs a little bit of a bite with the chili aoli & pepper jack cheese, and the skirt steak is juicy! No chewy meat here! If it wasn't 10$ I would probably eat one everyday. The desserts: I think the food is great, but this is where EK takes the cake. Pun totally intended!!! From cookies, to bars, to cakes there is nothing here that isn't sinfully, or as their signs say, DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS! My favorite so far are the pudgies. A confection I had never even heard of, but is the best thing I have ever had. I can't even describe it. You just have to try it. Ladies and Gentleman of Yelp, this is REAL FOOD, using REAL MATERIALS, fresh ideas, and the enthusiasm and the dedication come through in the taste of food. My wife and I went there one night just to sample a couple things to see if the food was as good as the pics we say online. THEY WERE BETTER. Let's start with the Blondies, they are my favorite thing on this planet. Moist, sweet, chocolate, it's crazy how good they are EVERY TIME. Carrot Cake Sliders...the filling is better than cream cheese. Dulce de Leche cookies. Being based in Spanish Harlem, it's only right that this happened and you'll be glad it did. Cupcakes are crazy, 3 flavors are the staple but I'll highlight the Lemonade Sunshine cupcakes topped with "the best frosting ever". For 2 ppl who aren't fans of lemon flavored anything, this stopped us in our tracks. A taste that couldnt be described with words. The take home dinners are above restaurant quality, like going, to your mom's house and she give you a bowl of you favorite dish to take home. So we decided to use Evelyns Kitchen for our Wedding reception/celebration for our party favors and desserts. Lemme say that they made us feel as important as any of thier corporate customers. After following EK on Instagram for over a year, I finally made it from Miami to this little gem in East Harlem. After eating my way through The City for 4 days, we took a cab up from Columbus Circle before heading home. Pretty much saved the best for last! Between the Rosemary Mint Lemonade that Sarah greeted us with to the Krispy Kreme bread pudding with Bourbon creme, not to mention the marinated steak salad. Presentation was beautiful. Everything was full of flavor! The owner Ayala is a doll! Her story is wonderful. And I'm going back. I brought home every flavor of pudgie they had and I ate my Blondie on the plane! Food is GREAT. customer service.. eeeeehhhh, not as good. The owner refused to allow delivery to my building which is just one block out of their delivery zone when going uptown even though going downtown, their range is MUCH farther than my building is. What's your issue with coming just 7 blocks north?? She even refused when I offered to meet the delivery guy right across the street which WAS in the delivery zone. Rules are rules but the delivery guy had no problem, it was supposedly the owner's call on this one. So I ended up placing a whole new order online with a fake address and just met the guy. when you have a friend who's pregnant in the house and a craving hits, you just gotta make it happen. but I won't be giving evelyn's place any more of MY money. Even if the food was delicious. Bad service just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. read more

I participated in a special investors dinner last evening at Evelyn's Kitchen located in East Harlem. Overall I thought it was a very nice experience. A solitary Chef's Table sits in the center immediately upon entering the space. This evening was a four course dinner that began with appetizers (Mushroom Risotto, and a puff pastry that resembled and tasted like Pigs in a Blanket). Not my favorite but it was Okay. Course #2 was a really good Savory Salad that exploded with Citrus flavor and included strawberry's and pecans. Course #3 the main entree was served family style and included a lemon Shrimp Scampi, Baked Salmon with a Sweet Apple Asian Glaze, White Rice, Roasted Broccoli, Crunchy String Beans, and pasta with the remains of a short rib gravy sauce. It was all good, though some items were over cooked like the Salmon, Shrimp, and Broccoli, and the rice was a bit oily for my taste. The short rib sauce was also greasy and could have been an amazing dish if it had the rib meat in it. The WOW factor came just in time at Course #4 - Desserts. They certainly did save the best for last! Blondies, Red Velvet, Cup Cakes, and a host of other treats we're a dessert lovers delight! It was simply in a word DELICIOUS! Bear in mind, Evelyn's Kitchen is NOT a retail restaurant. It is a wholesale business establishment servicing other food brand outlets with their desserts. There is no website or online ordering and all advertising at this time is word of mouth and social networking via Facebook and Twitter. I first heard about Evelyn's kitchen on Instagram. Pictures of the deserts and the plates of food made East Harlem, an area I hardly visit, a must stop in my travels. I've sampled many different entrees and dessert and I've never ever been disappointed. The entrees are home cooking without having to clean the kitchen afterwards. My entrée favorites include the crab cakes (not always on the menu but when they are? RUN AND GET SOME...but umm save some for me!), the spiced roasted broccoli (YESSSSS, FINALLY someone who knows how to make veggies interesting and flavorful enough to almost want them on their own!), And the desserts??!! Woooo, they are amaaaaazing. I love the gooey but not sugar coma inducing pecan bars and the Strangely Delicious should be renamed DAMN THIS IS GOOD! The carrot cake sliders and the holiday gingerbread sliders are great also. Some other reviewers have mentioned poor customer service. In all the times I've been going there, I've never experienced anything less than great friendly service. Always helpful and engaging. Refreshing to have real customer service uptown, a factor lost on many uptown businesses. This a MUST if you are in Harlem. The staff is friendly and the treats were tasty. Now don't go and expect to hang out, when we arrived there is really NO place to sit and dine in. Everyone we saw come in, purchased items and left. Now my favorite was the Chocolate Chip Toffee Pecan cookie is the bomb!! I enjoyed the icing on the Lemon Poundcake and could have gone for additional icing on my cake. Yes I love desserts, and am a fat kid at heart. This place deserves more stars than our universe holds! Firstly, every pastry is fresh, soft and incredibly tasty. The drinks are the best and the menu is refreshing. Additionally the decor, service and atmosphere are simply beautiful. If you don't know about this place, you are missing out. Try Evelyn's for yourself and see how amiable and superb the staff is. I am never sure exactly what to choose, but everything I've seen and tried are breathtaking. I have to give a shout out to the super insightful and beautiful Sarah, who led me to try to best pastries I've ever eaten. She knows what she is talking about so ask her and be amazed. Apart from asking you can literally close your eyes and randomly pick anything and you won't be disappointing. This is not food to die for but food to live by. I personally recommend the Toffee Blondies, the Carrot Cake Sliders and the assortment of pies. This cozy very nice spot has become a regular destination. I would walk here from any borough for the wonderful food, forget about JR's cheesecake, this is the best spot for pastries, breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch and supper in New York City. The service here is top notch and my advice to everyone is try it for yourself and then invite your family, friends, and coworkers. This is an experience of a life time and it is affordable. The only adjective for Evelyn's Kitchen is perfect. Her food is heaven on a plate and the pastries are a five star resort in your mouth. So I was watching kids baking championship, and their lemon bar episode filled me with a deep craving for lemon bars. But where to get there in my east Harlem neighborhood? I had heard of Evelyn's Kitchen, so I scoped out their menu and noticed that they did have the coveted bar. I made the short walk over and bought said lemon bar, along with a pecan bar because it struck my fancy as well. Both bars were a good size that generally helped me feel that I was getting my money's worth ($4/ bar). The lemon bar was nicely tart with a crust that didn't take away from the flavor, but didn't quite add anything either. The lemon curd was pretty messy, which was a slight problem when I packed the remainder of the bar as a snack for the next day. The pecan bar was chewy and delicious too. I will definitely go back here, as there aren't many places around here (at least, that I know of) that sell homemade, high-quality versions of American bakery classics. Amazing Food. Perfect for picking up and having a great dinner at home. I usually get the vegetarian special and get 4 sides with three green vegetables so it almost feels healthy. I believe his name is Matthew that's usually there. I've had mashed potatoes, green beans, broccoli, sweet potato wedges, macaroni and cheese, Brussel sprouts, lemon pepper wings, siracha wings, lemon pepper chicken, house salad, caesar salad, and plenty of pudgies. It is so delicious! It comes with roasted vegetables and potatoes with the marinated skirt steak on top of green leafy veggies! It is truly spectacular! Now I was born and raised in Harlem but I am skeptical these days about a lot of places but I gave it a shot and tried out their lemon chicken sandwich. Yummmmmy! The chicken was moist and well seasoned and the lettuce was crisp and delicious. I topped it off with a carrot cake slider that added just enough sweetness to my meal. Walked into the place because of how good it smelled on the street! There's no place to sit down; it's mostly delivery and takeout. The dinner menu is pretty legit- each item comes with two sides and either a brownie or a blondie. I followed my stomach growls and ordered a lemon bar. The food is made fresh so I was waiting for about 15 min, which wasn't too bad. The lemon pepper wings looked and smelled so good; definitely worth it. The asparagus was delicious, not overcooked at all, and wonderfully seasoned. The mac and cheese was ok, but benefited from the extra seasoning that the wings and asparagus sprinkled on it. My only complaint would be to give more asparagus and less mac and cheese, but they gave me as much food as would fit in that togo container, which I appreciated. The other reason for knocking down a star was the desserts. The free blondie was extremely dry and not as delicious as other blondies that I've had. Despite ordering a lemon BAR, I received a lemon LOAF, which was good, but not what I ordered. I'll definitely come back here for the food, but I may leave out the dessert order next time. read more

I love how they have fresh desserts every hour or so as well as soups and fresh coffee.. I never have the same dessert I always chose the special of the day. The chef's table is warm and intimate, the hostess is endearing and accommodating, and the menu is SUPERB. a full course dinner - each part of which haunts the senses long after you've left the table - topped by an expansive dessert spread that almost makes you forget you just finished a full meal. It's been a couple years since I ordered delivery from Evelyn's. Never took issue with the quality but at times thought it a bit pricey. This week I have it another shot, only to find that their price point has not changed. However, I did think the value was better because the food we ordered was fantastic. My wife ordered the Short Rib (@$27) with Mac n cheese and spinach. I ordered the grilled shrimp ($23) with green beans and coconut rice. Both dishes were great and completed each other perfectly. I even tried their pudgies, PB and J and Oreo marsh-mellow, which were best good, if not a bit small. Ending with the Pecan bar, which if you like Pecan pie, you are sure to love. The price point still a bit too high for days to day orders but it worked perfectly for Friday night when I was willing to pay a bit more.
