While we waited to be seated , we went to the Bar area to have a drink . Now I don't know why but the Bar area does have a foul odor to it . Good thing we did not eat at he Bar. Oh my, the food quality has gotten so bad here! Use to be good but haven't been in a few years and now we are filled with regret. App: onion straws- covered in oil, soggy and undercooked. lunch- The brisket if you can call it that, super poor quality, grey, dry and super thin no smoke ring to be found, the chopped pork was the only meat item we had with flavor and was passable besides half of both portions being entirely fat. Chicken tenders super weird texture barely done inside but over cooked exterior. Fries ok texture but missing seasoning or salt, Mac and cheese dry and tasteless. Corn bread was the best thing there. Now for Service it was really slow but our server Nyasha was nice and wasn't her fault it was poor management for staffing as she was the only server I saw during our visit waiting all of the tables that were there(3 large parties and 3 other tables) all while the manager sat in a booth in the back corner doing nothing when he could have helped with expediting, checking on tables, maybe even helping a few tables but nope it was relax city for him! I have always wanted to go to Famous Dave's but had yet to make it. On a recent trip to Long Beach for the Mardi Gras parade we decided to eat there. Let's just say Famous Dave's is my new fav BBQ place! The food was the best! We had a pretty large group and the wait was what was expected on a busy night but we didn't have to wait more than 30-45 min. The staff seated us and took our drink orders pretty quickly and friendly. At first glance I noticed the prices were extremely affordable and surprisingly so. So that was a great surprise. Someone in my party recommended the Burnt Ends. They offer them as an appetizer but also a sandwich. I ordered the sandwich and it was soooo good! Can't wait to try it again. I am allergic to potatoes so I decided to try the grilled pineapple as the side and it was so tasty! My new go to side. Have to even try it at home now. I am a big fan of good cornbread so I ordered for the table. Let's just say i ended up rationing pieces to the group so i could have more for myself. Some of the best cornbread i have ever had! The Feast for Two ($38.99) included St. Louis-style spareribs, country roasted chicken, had a choice between brisket or pork...I choose the brisket (it was very dry), mac n cheese (lacked a bit of flavor), creamy coleslaw (meh), cornbread and fries. So glad Famous Dave's is back! We highly recommend the family feast. It gives a variety meats and sides to try. It says 2-3 persons but it fees 4 of us and we still took home leftovers. Well, I expected a whole lot more from "Famous Dave's" but, I was vastly disappointed. More so with the fact that the food itself looks 100x more tasty than the actual taste. I also noticed the Long Beach location is not even listed on the website . . . must either not be owned by the main franchise or has become disowned by them. Either way, if this location says a lot more bad for Famous Dave's they need to change the name! I wanted a little bit of everything so I ordered the meat combo and for the table we ordered the catfish fingers. The catfish was not bad. six pieces, good size, nice crust, the tartar sauce was alright. For the main dish, I ordered the combo with brisket and rib tips, which came with a side of cornbread, and my choice of mac & cheese and coleslaw. Of all these items, the mac & cheese and cornbread was the best part. Those two alone were five stars. The rest of the meal however, doesn't get anywhere close to 5 stars. The brisket was actually flavorful, with a nice bark and good spice, but severely dry . . . I had a tidal wave of bbq sauce over the meat to give it some moisture. The bread it was served on was stale. The rib tips, yuck. Really, YUCK. Each piece was either completely fat, or so tough and chewy that it wouldn't even come off the bone. It was practically rubber. No flavor on these either. The coleslaw was bland, store bought style. nothing special. The cornbread though . . . WOW That was phenomenal!! It was such a shocker to have something so damn delicious in a plate of disappointment. Soft, crumbly, sweet, moist, oh so good! The mac & cheese was also very good! It was "spicy" mac & cheese because it was mixed with jalapeños, but it wasn't that spicy, just had a kick. Cheesy, thick, macaroni was well cooked, great side dish! I would have eaten a meal of just cornbread and mac & cheese if I had known everything else was so terrible. Unfortunately though, the cornbread and mac did not justify the meal enough to give them more than a 2star rating. $25 meal down the drain. read more

The food came out quick and was tasty, but Keon Is the real reason we'll be coming back. Super excited to come to Long beach for restaurant week since i missed the OC one :( . They sat us right away our waiter knew about the menu and he suggested not to get the special for restaurant week so instead we got the All american feast for the 4 of us. This included bbbq chicken, ribs, brisket , corn , cole slaw , beans , french fries and corn bread, we also added a side of mashed potatoes . I liked everything but call me crazy but my favorite thing was the chicken and their fries lol oh yeah and corn bread too . If these guys are famous for their mediocre ribs then maybe I believe it! The 3.5 average rating and some misguided reviews kind of fooled me. I knew Famous Dave's is a chain, but I had never sampled their food, and well, I guess you won't know unless you try it. After staying wide awake due to a sugar rush on the previous night I slept in on Saturday morning, and this was my first meal of the day. I arrived shortly after they opened at 11 AM, and I chose a booth seat since I had no plans of hitting the alcohol so early in the day. She was an awesome waitress BTW and one of the stars is specifically for her since the food definitely did not wow me! I took extra time to peruse the menu and when I was finally ready Amanda was there to take my order. After taking my order into the kitchen Amanda returned to create a little plate art at my table while introducing me to the five Famous Dave's sauces. Georgia Mustard (eye balls) - It was almost sour in flavor and definitely had too much vinegar. For my order I had the Baby Back Ribs and Meat Combo. I selected the roasted chicken dark as my additional meat and chose my two sides to be the Famous Fries and the Firecracker Green Beans. A corn muffin and corn on the cob are included with most of the plates. These were some tough ass ribs they were serving me! The flavor itself was good and the meat was moist, but it took far too much work to take that meat off of the bone. The roasted chicken was much better. The marinade was flavorful and I could taste the seasoning even with a little sauce added on. The chicken was moist and definitely fall-off-the-bone tender. The fries were very good. They were simply skin-on wedge fries cooked crispy on the outside and meaty on the inside. The frozen green beans were cooked with some white onion flakes, some soft bacon bits and some red chili flakes to give them the oomph. I'm not a fan of frozen green beans though. The corn was obviously straight from the freezer and into the boiler type fare. The corn kernels were super tough and completely void of flavor. The corn muffin definitely came from a mix as its crumbs disintegrated into a million little bits when I cracked it open. I dropped into Dave's during LB Restaurant Week to give it a try and it was a pleasant surprise especially when it was $20 for dinner for 2! During the promo you get 1 appetizer or dessert to share and 2 entrees served with 2 sides of your choice. For the appetizer, I tried the nachos with brisket on top and for my entree I had the St. Louis ribs which were bomb especially when I paired it with some mac n cheese and some slaw! Lastly, you can't have some BBQ without something to wash it down with and for that I had myself Dave's tea which is their version of the Long Island and is quite impressive I might add. Overall, I really enjoyed trying this place out and will definitely be back. Welcome to PETA's worse nightmare. With the staff wearing t-shirts with slogans that proudly display "Go ahead, pig out, we won't squeal" and "All the best pigs carry Famous Dave's donor cards" somewhere Wilbur is rolling over in his grave. We went to Famous Dave's opening weekend; they actually had opened their doors the previous Monday to break in the staff before the weekend crowds but you wouldn't know it. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest fan of themed restaurants and being greeted by 12 employees while en-route to our table is a little on the annoying side. You could also tell the service folks were pretty new, inexperienced and in some cases just bizarre. We went through four different servers in one sitting which I thought was sort of extreme. One server even explained to us that if the next server coming on to relieve him is not doing a "kick porkin' job"... to let him know because they "split the tips". He then confided in us that it was time for his smoke break. We sat for a good few minutes, all with empty glasses as we overheard a conversation between two of the servers about how much in tips they've accumulated so far. We ended up interrupting this conversation hoping to get a refill on our drinks. Then, as if this was not bad enough we had a lady approached us to ask how everything is going. I asked her what the difference between the servers with the red shirts versus the servers with the black shirts. She happily explained that the staff with the red shirts were trainers' from other Famous Dave's here to help out. This was sufficient enough information for me but she went on to explain how she can not wait for them to leave and in often cases, the trainers were abusing their powers as trainers. TMI Moments later our cigarette smoking server returned and all returned back to normal... just with a new stench. Now, the saving grace of Famous Dave's is the food. The food was actually pretty good and in my opinion much better then Lucille's. For this reason and the reason I go out to eat in the first place, I will endure the horrendous customer service to indulge myself in some tasty BBQ again. 3 stars for the weird and odd experience. BBQ FAIL!!! Several weeks ago, I told Michael S. that I was going to try Famous Dave's. Dang it! I should have just gone with my instinct and never eat here! Honestly, how on earth did Famous Dave's win so many awards? Here's the story of why I had to try Famous Dave's: My bud Thomas N. has a coworker that kept prodding him to try this joint. His coworker said that Famous Dave's is better than Zeke's Smokehouse in Montrose. Ohhhhh, them's fighting words!!! Even though Zeke's is under new ownership/management and their food is not as good as it used to be, I had to put Famous Dave's to the test. Thomas N, Mateo and I dined here last night and here's what we ordered: XXL Ribs, aka "The Big Slab": 1/5 Spare ribs with a "secret" rub, huh? Where shall I begin to pick these ribs apart? Dry - Yes, it was like eating pork jerky. Fall off the bone - Yeah, dry meat tends to pull off the bone easily. Pit-Smoked - There was no a hint of smoke-infused taste in the meat. The only taste I had of this "secret" rub was salt and pepper...and it was plenty salty! This rack came with 12 ribs. One rib was good enough for me! Beef Brisket: 1.5/5 The only thing making Dave's brisket moist was the dousing of BBQ sauce! Take away the sauce and you're left with salty dry brisket. This was by far, thee saltiest brisket I've ever had. At least this was marginally better than the ribs! Dave's Cheesy Mac & Cheese: 2.5/5 A novel idea to put jalapeño and corn niblets in your mac & cheese, but that was not enough to save this side dish. It did live up to the cheesy moniker. Wilbur Beans: 2/5 WOW!!! Very much so lacking in flavor! One would think that these beans would be exploding with flavor since it's simmered together with smoked pork, brisket, hot link sausage and jalapeño peppers. NOPE! They were pretty bland. Corn Bread Muffin: 4/5 Finally, something that is Famous Dave's saving grace...or face. This corn bread muffin was moist and warm, a little sticky...but very flavorful. Corn on the Cobb: 4/5 Can they really mess this up? Service was pretty decent. Our waitress made several visits to ensure we were okay. When we left the restaurant, we all had pain in our abdomen and felt queasy. Coincidence? Hmmmmm... Final assessment of Famous Dave's: 1.5 stars (2 stars rounded up, and being extremely generous). A wise friend once told me, "Never order a burger from a Chinese food place." I wish I had kept that in mind when ordering last night; Dave probably didn't get famous for his salads. Bad on me for not ordering the ribs. Basically, Famous Dave's is a glorified bar that also serves ribs. We tried a great amber, and the "burnt tips" (rib tips,) appetizer was actually very appetizing. One of our party had the traditional wings in place of an entrée, and he finished them quickly. Our server brought us house made potato chips with which to sample the many BBQ sauces (It's a cute demonstration they do, explaining the sauces as they squeeze samples onto a little plate), and those rocked. So there's the top half of the menu, fully recommendable. Please do not even glance below to the section labeled "Salads"...unless you really enjoy lots of bagged iceberg lettuce. The other half of our food proved to be an expensive disappointment. Even the brisket on top (what little there was of it) couldn't provoke any flavor from my Sassy salad. From the salad, to the beans, to the meats on the menu, everything seemed prone to come drowned in sugar of one kind or another --even the plank salmon. My sister had the foresight to order hers dry, which left her with a piece of fish on a board, sans diabetic coma and dental caries. It was alright. Still not something that would make a chef famous. Or infamous. You'd think it would be a safe bet, ordering burgers from a beer and rib place. Nope. Two others ordered burgers: classic, and "Jacked and Stacked". The J&S was supposed to be a brisket burger, and you can order it medium or medium well. That's because they take yesterday's leftover brisket bits and cement it into a patty. So that's jacked, now where's the "stacked"? The result is like eating really tough, chewy meat. The "classic" was really no better. Meh on Dave's burgers. Moving along, the service was average. Nothin' to see here. So what the heck, Dave can deliver some righteous happy hour food and beer, therefore I'll give the ribs the benefit of the doubt; they're likely decent. Just order ribs. Meat-eaters raise your knives because you're going to love this place. My husband was craving bbq so we came here for dinner. The wait was 90 minutes, but we grabbed a table at the bar. He ordered the 'feast for one' which came with brisket, chicken, ribs, corn, fries, cornbread and beans. It says feast for one but could easily fill two people. Being that I'm a vegetarian I ordered a bunch of their side dishes. The Mac and cheese had a light jalapeño taste. And the corn bread was PERFECTION! I was at Long Beach and didn't know where to eat dinner. I saw this restaurant while walking so decided to try it. It smelled pretty good from the outside so figured it couldn't be that bad. We asked for a toss salad but for some reason it didn't look like it was 'tossed'. I can forgive on this since I didn't come here for a salad. The main thing was... The sampler plate. This thing was pretty big. It came with chicken wings, ribs, fish strips, a corn bread, onion rings, and chicken tenders. Here's my thoughts on each item- Chicken Wings - the waitress allowed us pick BBQ or Buffalo and we ended up going with both. The wings itself was pretty good, but with all the choices of sauces it made it better. Ribs - The ribs weren't soft like Tony Romas, but trying it with the various blends of sauces made it good. Fish strips - This was good when it was hot. I recommend eating them quickly. Onion rings - Just regular Onion Rings Chicken Tenders - It was ok, it just reminded me of my salad since that's pretty much the type of salad I got. Corn Bread - This was probably one of the best thing on the plate. (without sauces) It was hot and the butter/honey can be tasted. I've had some delicious corn bread from Atlanta and this one definitely ranks high up there. Moral of the story? I'm a sucker for sauces. I love barbecued ribs, if I could have it for breakfast, I probably would. This place was not the place to come for good barbecue. Ok, it wasn't horrible, and let's face it, barbecued ribs are easy to screw up. But my standards are at Lucille's, and this just didn't cut it. My friend and I shared the bbq ribs and spicy sausage. The spicy sausage was not spicy. It was just sausage. I also didn't find their array of sauces impressive. They were good, but it didn't really have that "WOW!" flavor to any of them. The spicy ones were not spicy. Granted, I put sriracha on everything, I can still tell the difference between not-spicy and spicy, and this wasn't spicy. Also, when we got there, there were a few groups sitting around, so we went up to the hostess and asked how long the wait was, she said she'd get back to us. Then about ten minutes later, she went around with a waiting list, writing everyone's name down. About twenty minutes later, we were seated, amongst one of the many empty booths, and the hostess apologized, and said the restaurant just wasn't ready- the silverware wasn't clean, and nothing was ready. Well, I would've normally been sympathetic towards that, but this was 6 o'clock (prime dinner time) on a holiday (President's day?), so no sympathy there. Wouldn't go back.
