I wish that when it was good it was always good. Major consisentcy problem. The burgers can be great, except when the bun is ice cold. Criss cut fries are amazing but expensive especially when they gyp you on the portion and you don't find out till you get home. Rip off, well sometimes. Food here is not that great. We ordered a mocha milkshake, mango milkshake, cheeseburgers, finger steaks, and waffle fries. The mocha milkshake didn't taste like mocha, just chocolate--and it was a bit too sweet for my taste. The mango milkshake needed more mango--tasted mostly vanilla. The finger steaks were greasy and wasn't really seasoned. The seasoned waffle fries tasted okay, but there was something off about the seasoning--couldn't put my finger on it, but there was an unpleasant after taste for me. The burgers were okay, nothing to write home about. The buns they used are the kind that stick to the roof of your mouth while chewing, so a but unpleasant. The staff is nice, and that's about it. We made a family visit to Fanci Freez with varied results. First, the good: I tried their Huckleberry Burger (yes, you read that correctly -- Huckleberry) and it was surprisingly good. They put huckleberry glaze in place of regular condiments. It was quite sweet which was an interesting flavor profile. I wouldn't choose it often instead of savory options; however, it was a fun experience. My wife had the Mushroom Burger and it was very good -- plenty of thinly sliced grilled mushrooms with lettuce and Swiss cheese. Two grandsons had dipped ice cream cones -- chocolate dipped in chocolate and vanilla dipped in butterscotch. They didn't talk much because they were too busy eating. The cones were large and threatened to melt before they could finish. The other grandson had a medium Oreo shake and complained that it was too thick... To me, that is a good thing -- who wants a thin shake?! This teenager, who normally is a bottomless pit when it comes to food, couldn't quite finish his shake -- another positive. My wife & I love huckleberries (evidenced by my choice of burgers); therefore, we shared a large Huckleberry Shake. It had plenty of whole berries and good thick ice cream. It was a tasteful delight! The only problem is that the fruit kept getting stuck in the over-sized straw. We had to ask for a spoon to enjoy most of the huckleberries (note the photo). In our book, that was not much of a problem. Now, for the downsides: I asked for grilled onions on my burger; however, the chopped onions were not grilled. The overall flavor was fine anyway; but I expect restaurants to get the order done correctly. The Italian Soda and Spin drinks for my daughter and son-in-law didn't get prepared until they went back to the counter and inquired about them. For some reason, the staff forgot to complete the entire order. The place was only medium-busy on a Thursday evening; so there is really no good excuse for that oversight. Son-in-law liked his Orange Spin whereas daughter said Sonic's Italian sodas are better. Good news/bad news: The first chocolate dipped cone was a medium size instead of the large which was ordered. When the error was noted, the staff quickly prepared a large cone. That grandson was happy because he now had a cone in each hand. Back to the good: The servers were pleasant and responded well when the issues were brought to their attention. They quickly fixed their errors without any poor attitude. The people working were very young, but they looked like they were handling everything very well. Especially, the young boy with glasses who was in charge of the shakes area. He stepped in and got everything running smoothly. The girl up front was very kind to me and my kids. They may look young, but they know what they are doing! Their cheese burgers were good and delicious, same with their mozzarella sticks that were perfectly crisp and cheesy. The bathrooms on the other hand were slippery and were slightly dirty with napkins all over the floor so I brought their stars to 4. I will definitely be coming back with all of my kiddos! read more

I knew this location was here but I had yet to visit until yesterday. it's tucked away on mcmillian, but they do have a drive thru, which is around the back of the building. really extensive menu with lots of burger/chicken/fish options. tons of flavors of sodas and shakes and ice creams. we were just there for a quick bite this time. my dad got the mushroom burger with swiss, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and a really amazing looking bun. he said he loved it. it was a fair price too, if I recall. I wanted something small and they have CHICKEN NUGGETS on the menu! what?? you never see that at places like this. of course I had to try them. they were absolutely epic. homemade for sure, and better than popcorn chicken or chicken strips. very unexpected and so cool. also their ranch is up there with some of the best i've had. it's perfect. we also got tots and crisscut fries. they have 5 different kinds of potatoes. I didn't eat either but they were hot and fresh. they lose a star because we were about to drive away and realized one of our fries weren't in there. when you tip the drive person wouldn't you expect they make double sure everything is included in your order? that was lame. she even looked to make sure we tipped her. girl, earn it. don't get lazy. took another 5 minutes to get our food because of that. whatever, the food was good and hot and fresh. lastly, we signed up for their emails and they already sent an email to thank us for our business. I think that's really cool and good friendly service. you get points for signing up too, and free food. it's worth it. Let's go down the list, Food - I don't know because I did not wait around long enough to receive it after I ordered it five minutes later in a drive-through line with only one car ahead of me. Next, service - I don't know because I did not wait long enough to interact with the associates, other than the microphone person. It was an unbelievably extensive wait for a milkshake and a small fry. There was only one car in front of me in the drive-through and they hadn't gotten their food after five minutes when I pulled away. Ambiance - overcast and rainy, partly sunny in the evenings today. I did not go inside, nor will I. I will not give a place like this a second chance when there are so many other places that have equal or better products in a fraction of the time with great service. It's understandable why there aren't more of these around. I would've had to pay 9.80 something cents for a medium malt and small fries though so that seems a bit excessive to me. read more

Independent fast food used to be great but it's gone downhill. You can tell it's a bunch of high school kids just cooking from a fryer and a grill. I got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, a side of fries, a side of tater tots, 2 corn dogs, and a massive chocolate shake today, and wow (not all for me btw )! This all came out to only $30, which was well worth it. The spicy chicken honestly wasn't spicy enough for my taste, but the tots and fries were perfectly crispy. The corn dog is the only thing that I felt was priced too high. The milkshake was made with real vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, which is the right way . The customer service was on point and very friendly, not just to me but also to my little one! I definitely recommend it and will be going back to try the burgers . read more

Onion rings are usually really good. These things are so over cooked they are charcoal. Terrible. I was so looking forward to this and paid $5 for garbage. Went in about 8:30pm Friday night, not to busy. Order was taken quickly. As we were waiting for our order (6 shakes) I saw some children receive their shakes and making faces and saying "this tastes gross". When we got our order, we quickly learned why! All the shakes were bland, tasted like plain vanilla. Grasshopper shakes supposed to be green right? And minty? This was a plain Oreo shake labeled "grasshopper". The cheesecake was just pieces of graham cookies and I added strawberry- no strawberry flavor. Watermelon shake had no flavor either! We also had butter pecan, bubblegum, and root beer flavors. None tasted good at all! I spent $34 and feel like I was ripped off. It's supposed to be Idahos best shake but they all are so bland. Most of the reviews on here are on the food, but we went for the shakes. All my kids were so disappointed. They picked some cool flavors and to taste bland vanilla was pretty upsetting for us all. The local organization had already shared the post multiple times and Fanci Freez received some negative comments and pulled out. They still received the business though from patrons thinking they were supporting the organization. I'm so disappointed in the menu changes! I used to absolutely love the finger steaks that you could get here at Fanci Freeze. Unfortunately they have obviously changed their version of finger steaks. In the past, the finger steaks tasted like they were hand battered and made fresh. The steak was almost always flavorful and moist. What they are serving now could be mistaken for strips of a hockey puck! Very clearly coming from a frozen bag and dumped in the fryer. They are no different than the frozen finger steaks served at my work cafeteria. I don't eat those, but I have watched the fry cook dump a portion into the fryer from a big plastic bag of frozen pieces. Idaho is known for their finger steaks- in fact in the past when I had family visiting from out of town they always want finger steaks since they don't have them in the East. I used to take them to Fanci Freeze because those were the best. So sad that that's no longer an option. read more

I had a bad feeling when I saw an empty drive thru at 12 in the afternoon. Sure enough, when I got home the burger was completely cold...not room temperature, like it felt like it was in the refrigerator and they bagged it up. I had to microwave it because the cheese wasn't even melted. Sorry, but if you make a burger and the cheese isn't melted you don't know what you are doing! On top of that their credit card machine prompts you for a tip....in the drive thru??? So even after leaving a tip I got a cold burger and fries when I asked for tator tots lol They do make good ice cream, but I wouldn't get their warm food because it'll be as cold as the ice cream.
