Expensive fast food burgers. That's how I would describe Farmer Boys. A new location opened up off of Red Hill and Main St. next to an extended stay hotel. First off, parking can be troublesome during lunch hour. If you do find a parking space, the dining area can fill up quickly too. I ordered one of their double cheeseburgers with avo and bacon. It came with fries and a drink. It totaled over $12. Kind of steep for a burger combo in my opinion. The burger was decent but in my opinion not worth the price. I'll stick to other fast food places if I want a quick burger. I just think it's not worth the prices they charge. read more

I waited for over 20+ minutes for my order. I ordered a very simple burger which is their new "the natural avocado burger." She repeated my order and I got my food. I was in a rush because I had an appointment to go to. As I'm in my car, I open the bag and it's a cheeseburger. I was the only one in the store when I ordered her response to me was I didn't make the burger yet as a food expediter you're supposed to always double confirm to make sure the order is correct. This location shares a parking lot with the Courtyard. There is a decent amount of parking spots and some reserved for just FB. There is no drive thru at this location. I had nice and friendly service. I ordered togo and they were kind to offer me water while I waited. They will call your name when your order is ready and they review the contents with you. It had been many years since I've been to a Farmer Boys and today's trip did not disappoint. I ordered the sourdough chicken avocado sandwich combo with onion rings and it was very tasty. The onion rings (4) were large with a thin crispy batter on them. They weren't oily at all. A special kudos to John the server who was very attentive and asked if he could get anything for us. Been to this location twice as I work nearby. The first visit was ok. Hot food, clean, friendly employees. It all went downhill today. Walked in and they weren't too busy. Cashier girl stands at the register and stares at me like a deer staring at a Peterbilt coming at 65mph. Strike 1. I initiated the conversation and placed my order. Sat down and and immediately noticed the place was inundated with flies. They were all over the place and other patrons were shooing them off their food. Strike 2. Apparently they have made a change and now serve fries to the likes of Burger King. Strike 4. What a disgusting waste of money. Farmer Boy, you're out. Never coming back. First time I came here I really enjoyed the food but the second time it took a step back. Parking is easy and plentiful. Service is friendly and they get the food out fast. 1st time got the Bacon Boy and Fries. Both were tasty and filling. The fries were greasy but the good kind of greasy. 2nd time went with the Big Cheese and two orders of Fries. The burger was decent, needed more meat. The fries on the other hand were mediocre at best this time around, they reminded me of Burger King fries and well those suck. I enjoy Farmer Boy's for lunch at other locations but haven't been to this one yet for lunch. Came for breakfast and was pretty disappointed with my breakfast sandwich. Tasted like it was frozen then stuck in a microwave. Floppy bun with gross sausage. My friend got the farm fresh breakfast, which looked good and he said tasted great. If I come again I'll try the breakfast burrito which people keep talking about. Coffee was nasty- no way to sugar coat it. I came in during lunch (my very first time visiting) and I was greeted and my order was taken. I ordered: natural burger with no bacon, add lettuce and tomato with zucchini. Came in for breakfast on Sunday, 9:30AM, only two people in the entire place but plenty of workers running around. First bad sign was it took a few minutes for anyone at the front counter to notice we were even there. I ordered the pancake special and my wife, the tuna melt. We sat down and waited for our meal. A girl server delivered my pancake plate so we were just missing my wife's tuna plate. After a few minutes have passed - I looked at their counter and can see a lone plate that I suspected to be my wife's tuna melt. Figuring I needed to be more patient, I waited. Meanwhile, other plates are being placed on the counter and servers are picking up and delivering to the tables. Now I don't work in the restaurant industry but you don't have to be a genius to know the lonely plate that's been sitting under that heat lamp is our order. I finally got up and walked to the counter, letting the people know that has to be our order. Staff in turn gave me a very detailed and descriptive answer = "oh yeah". No apologies of course. Meals are already pricey as it is - throw in bad service with equally bad attitude and you have the least desirable place to eat in Irvine. I just visited this location for my lunch hour today. I am extremely unsatisfied with the service that I received from one individual. I placed my order over the phone prior to visiting the business waited 10 minutes as suggested then walked in to pick up my order. The line for pick up orders was being used as a regular line so was not able to take advantage the skip the line service. That is okay, but when the male said next guest I walked over to him to get my order I already placed. This man decided to answer the phone as I am standing in front of him and put his finger up to me as in 1 minute. He then decided to take the order over the phone instead of helping me just pay for my already ready order. I found this very disrespectful. I feel he should have told that customer 1 minute. My order was already placed I just needed to pay for it and have it handed to me but this individual did not even ask me anything but decided to treat the only black person in that establishment like crap. My time matters. I actually had to walk back to the other line to be helped. I will not be visiting this business every again. I have been treated poorly here before and I would stop visiting for months then return. But I am done now. Treat people with respect. I understand this type of area does not see many black people but this staff should be train on how they treat African Americans. What brought me to Farmer Boys was desperation at 8pm on a Sunday night and proximity to my neighboring hotel. I had pretty low expectations going in since nearby fast food restaurants had lines at the drive thru and this place was nearly empty. The promise of fresh ingredients seemed compelling enough keep me on the hotel campus. Lesson learned, Farmer Boys is punishment for being lazy. I ordered 2 sandwiches to hedge against more lousy decisions--a Big Cheese and a grilled chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were sub-par. The meat in the Big cheese burger was paper thin and charred on one side and gray on the other. The chicken was a bland puck that tasted like a stack of loose leaf paper--dry and flavorless. Most offensive though were the tomatoes. Both sandwiches had industrial sand-grown moon rocks usually shipped green to the northern states in the off season. They are awful and "Farmer" Boys is using them. In southern California. Where fresh veggies are available most of the year. Also, the website reads like an MBA case-study in trendy buzzwords but no one is bothering to check if the restaurants are actually playing along. The food won't ruin your day but the claims of "nobody doing it fresher" are totally disingenuous. How this chain is able to exist is beyond me. read more

There was no one in line and only TWO people in the entire dining area and not one employee even bothered to look up and say "we'll be right with you" . Beyond it being rude, this is a safety concern as if I had ill intent upon visiting, the cashier with her back toward me left herself very vulnerable. First time here, it's been a long time since I ate at a Farmer Boys, so I was pleasantly surprised to find one close to home and let me tell you ... I thought the food was delicious!! I had the "Barn Burner" Burger with double patty. It was really good, not very spicy , but totally delicious flavors. I enjoyed the freshness of the burger patty and lettuce and tomatoes. Also enjoyed the strawberry shake and chili-cheese fries. She had the Cobb salad which was awesome. Huge size but all the vegetables were fresh and crisp. Everything you could ask for in a lighter and filling fare. So if you're in the area, I'd highly recommended stopping by. I'll be coming back. Second time here and still unsure as to what I think. Definitely on the pricey side. Burger is good. Fries decent. I'm a little concerned about the negative reviews here with respect to management/ownership and their attitude and reluctance to honor promotions. The first time I was here they sold me on the Farmer Boys app, which I downloaded right then and got some "points" upfront. Came in today since I had a $5 off deal through the app. The cashier had issues running it through, so the manager (the one mentioned in the negative reviews) had to fix it. I'm not sure the functionality of the deal actually worked in their system but she honored the $5 off. I'll come back but if there's ever any issues with me using the app's deals I will not be happy. Most breakfast burritos I've had at other places are usually wrapped tight and it's full. No issues with the Farmer Boys on Red Hill. We usually eat there once or twice each month. The food and service are always good and it is even better when they have a special deal happening. I can best describe Farmer Boys as a 'roach coach' without the wheels. I can see why it is a favorite for the Latino community. In the 1970's there was a Wendy's commercial where two old ladies cried out "where's the beef" and I have that same sentiment about Farmer Boys. Because I got coupons mailed to my office, and my husband told me about how good their burgers except price. Burgers are his comfort food, but not mine. I'm more like sushi and ramen girl. But I wanted to try to see how good they are. The coupon I used was $7.99 for Bell Ringer Combo. The cashier suggested that I can have fried zucchini or onion rings instead of fries. She read my mind. But I was thinking looking at the menu that said fried zucchini and onion rings are $2 more. Then she suggested again that I can even have a half zucchini and half onion rings. I was sold. What a heck I would pay $2 more for those. Surprisingly, the bill came out exactly $7.99 plus tax! The place was modern and clean. Of course they just opened. The food came. The burger was HUGE! It's 3 times bigger than In n out. The patties are bigger than buns! If you ever had In n out, have you realized their patties are so thin and small? Yes it came with 2 patties that I didn't know. Each patty was thick and juicy, but not greasy like some other fancy burger restaurants. And I can tell their patties are 100% good beef. Fresh generous lettuce and tomato. Fried zucchini's are huge, too. I was thinking "4 pieces of zucchini for $4 something?!" No wonder. Onion rings are good, too. Though I hate to waste food cuz I'm Japanese, but I couldn't finish the burger. It was so big. I took off a star, cuz buns were cold. They were just came out of fridge cold. I would give 4 and a half if I could. If they could toast them like In n out, that would be perfect. Other than that, this was the BEST burger I have ever had. When I told my husband that night that I had Farmer Boys Burger for lunch, and I was very impressed, he kept saying "I told you so!" Maybe more salsa haha Don't really understand people complaining about price. Even fast food is $10 today. They use higher quality ingredients and it shows in the food. We usually see FB in the IE area but this is the first one we've seen here in OC. I drove by and parked since there is no drive-thru which is a bummer. I think they would get more traffic if they had one. It does seem to get packed during lunch. I ordered a regular double cheeseburger and a side of the zucchini. Love their zucchini and the light breading. It's so good and always cooked perfectly just enough crunch and bite to it. It's hot tho be careful. You need at least 3-4 cups of the ranch to cover the amount of zucchini you get. The burger was just so bland I get they're trying to copy inNout but the burger flavor wasn't there. Something was just missing. Had to dip it in the ranch just to get some flavor in there. Their cob salad was good and the portion was ok but still a bit pricey.
