If I lived here, I would be so grateful to have this place in town. Things are pretty spendy here. Each pastry they make is pretty time-intensive, and, ingredient-intensive. So I get it. But there weren't really any low cost items to choose from. (Not trying to be cheap here. Rather, I was buying in the dozens for a meeting, so, wasn't really interested in items at $4 a pop or higher.) What was kind of funny to us, as visitors, is that we had just come from another restaurant for sandwiches and smoothies. And, there was a small cluster of other people our demographic at the same place, also for sandwiches. This place was good. Really, it should have been a 4-Star review but we had some issues with cleanliness. We ordered the curry chicken salad sandwich and the oven roasted turkey sandwich. Both sandwiches were flavorful and tasted fresh! The fillings were generous and we left feeling full and re-energized after a decent healthy meal. So why the 3 stars? Prior to eating, we were standing in line admiring the pastries, but my husband said we are definitely not getting any. He told me to look where the AC vent was and that the condensation was dripping all over the pastries. Sure enough, it was. Okay, we will pass on the pastries because that's pretty gross. Then, while we were waiting for our sandwiches, my husband saw them drop the tongs they use for pastries on the ground. They put it aside making it seem like they would wash it. Errr...nope. He watched as the next customer ordered bread and they used the same dirty tongs to grab it. Eeek, talk about not proper business hygiene. We are both from f&b backgrounds, so even though those things are gross, we still ate our sandwiches lol. They were really good, nothing quite mind blowing, but still very good. Delicious little scones. Each one is moist, flavorful, and stands on its own, you don't need to add anything. The scones are small, but sized appropriately for portion control. Yesterday was my first time eating at Fendu Boulangerie, and I work in Manoa!! Any way, I ordered the Chicken pesto panini...let me tell you, OMG! The sandwich was small, but boy was it packed full of flavor, I absolutely loved it! I'm going there today for lunch and am fighting with myself to try something else on the menu. Just can't get the great taste out of my mind...chicken pesto panini sooo yummy! On taste alone I gave it 5 stars! As for people commenting about the girl behind the counter. Some people aren't as talkative or extroverted. On the quest for places that I can eat at with my dog, this has quickly become one of my favorite go-to breafast spots. If I wake up too late to go over to Morning Glass Cafe on Saturday morning and don't feel the need to wait in the extremely long line, I'll drive the 1/2 block back to go here. There is no inside seating. On a busy Saturday morning, be prepared for them to run out of items and also be prepared to be standing in line. The last time I went there was a very impatient customer who seemed to think if he kept telling the worker he was in a rush that he could bypass the line. NOT cool at all. There is only one register. Only one other busy worker running to fill orders. Anyway... just be patient in the line. It will go quicker than you think, but be ready to order when you get 1-2 ppl away from the register. Things that are my favorites that you really cant get anywhere else? The lychee strudel & the pot pie. The pot pie sells out fast, so if you are going to be late, call in your order early! Only downside? I end up getting coffee or beverages elsewhere. Really wish coffee bean and tea leaf was next door so I could be more lazy and not walk across the parking lot for my cream, sugar and dash of coffee to go with breakfast. read more

Lunch time and hungry on a Sunday, decided to venture into Manoa to try Fendu Boulangerie. Great curried chicken salad sandwich with currants! Ono! My significant other raved about his ham and turkey and bacon sandwich. Then we bought a box full of pastries; tried the pate de fruit in lilikoi flavor- would have liked it more tart than sweet. The chocolate pear tart was our overall favorite, with the chocolate dome with grand marnier and chocolate mousse on a cookie and covered with chocolate our next favorite. We also tried the pear almond slice which was good too. The lychee tart was flavorful, but too little lychee and too much pastry. Overall, a great experience! I tried the mango and berry scones, $1 each. I heard that the owner learned to bake at France. No wonder why they taste so good! Crusty and a bit crunchy on the outside, but soft inside. To be honest, it didn't taste like mango, but it added a good amount of sweetness. I felt like I was in Europe! Went here because the family is raving about this place. I found a nice bakery with incredibly delicious looking goodies inside. I came too early for pizza and a sandwich but was able to get scones, cupcakes and the incredible blueberry danish. The blueberry dessert is ridiculously good. It's expensive - over $2 each - and you can eat 3 of them, but each bite is ...."WOW". Service is really good. Lucky people at Manoa getting this wonderful place to eat!!!! Came to this place for a little breakfast action after church and after reading some reviews. It's a tiny store front, but they have a good amount of variety in there. Me and dad got the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich, while Mom got the petite croissant breakfast sandwich. I also got a mini blueberry danish to munch on while waiting for the sandwiches (they take about 15 minutes). The danish was super good and flakey and not overly sweet. The sandwiches came out piping hot and crispy. Cut up the roof of my mouth and burned it, but it was pretty good. I mean, I guess I could have waited for it to cool down. Me and my husband happened upon this place because we had to pick up something from edible arrangements next door and had to wait a bit. I ordered the veggie sandwich which was meh. They also let me know it would take about 15mins to make. I also got the almond pear tart. That was yummy. I got my husband the lychee streusel danish. He said it was very good. One thing I was very impressed with is that they have all kinds of freshly made bread on the wall. I overheard this lady saying that they have a stamp card. While I was waiting somebody came in and ordered something big for the next day, too. So they take orders in advance! Boyfriend took me her for the second time! We got the mushroom pizza, banana bread and the lychee caramel flan! OMG the lychee caramel flan was amazing..... I could taste the lychee and it wasn't too sweet it was perfect. The watermelon made it so refreshing after! The pizza was great as well. I'm not sure where to begin. First off, it's a tiny quaint bakery. Quality is fantastic. Customer service was fabulous. I couldn't wait to try my turkey pesto panini. They MAKE it fresh when ordered. It is not preamble and the pressed. Makes a big difference in taste and quality of end product. The flavors are all distinctive but not overwhelming. I dunno because I was watching her pick it up, close the display case, and go to the counter. During the pandemic lockdown, the owner and another baker were unmasked as they prepped and baked the bread and pizzas--was on TV or in the papers. After checking out different lunch menus at Manoa Marketplace, my kids and I decided to share a pizza at Fendu Boulangerie. We ordered the 14" Basil Pesto and Goat Cheese Pizza (18.75). The girl at the counter said it should be ready in about 20 minutes, so we went to Long's Drugstore around the corner while we waited. When we got our pizza, we decided to eat out front of Fendu on the tables and chairs provided. The crust had a nice crunch to it and the pizza was very fresh. It was good. There was a total of 8 slices. My 8 and 4 year old kids, and myself, had 2 slices each. They didn't complain at all, but in my opinion it was missing something...I didn't feel completely satisfied (it was a little dry for my taste). If we come here for pizza next time, I think we'll try the Classic Pizza (add pepperoni). The people at the table eating next to us enjoyed a cheesecake from Fendu and recommended that we give it a try. I asked her about the density, and she said that it was nice and light (not like Junior's in NYC). I took her word for it and went back inside Fendu and ordered the Lilikoi Cheesecake, and a Chocolate Chunk Macadamia Nut Cookie for my son. She was right-- the cheesecake was delicious!! The pastries are largely good but sometimes inconsistent. But if you like blueberries --don't order the blueberry muffins. My husband continues to order it hoping for some blueberries, but at least for the last 2 years there are few (maybe 2or3 at most!) whole blueberries in the whole muffin! At best there are only a few scattered bits (and I mean bits!) of blueberries. It's truly a ripoff. It's very moist with just the right amount of fruits and nuts which doesn't over power the bread and it's topped off with cinnamon and sugar. This shop is the absolute BEST European style baked goods you can find on island, and thats coming from someone who was raised in Europe. When I'm in the area I like to stop in for some fresh bread and to see what special delicacies are in the showcase. I admit the valrhona chocolate dome is to die for, but not something you can eat all the time...well, not if you're trying to fit in your favorite pair of jeans, anyway. If they ever have the lemon meringue available, get it. You will not regret it. The reason for the 3 stars is because I'm a little baffled at the clerks choice to give me 5 small paper bags for all my goodies. Thank you for packing the different items separately, I appreciate that completely! However, why wouldn't you put all my little bags into one large plastic bag? Yes, I know we have a plastic floating "island" in the Pacific, but at least give me the option? If I decline, then great. Bread here is really good. For $5 a loaf, pricing is fair on par with Acme Bread or La Tour, but the taste is similar to Acme vs. La Tour, nice and crusty but also tasty enough to eat on its own without added flavor like garlic, although the olive is great. Note to self to try their baguette (thanks Jacob D., your review has made me add more carbs to my to-try list!). For me, the chocolate croissant was not what I am used to as it is too light and flaky and has a slightly sweeter chocolate or powdered sugar taste. I probably got spoiled from Tartaine, B Patisserie, and of course Paris. The creative and tasty flavor combinations of lychee with something or pear and marscapone. There's no seating in the shop, but a number of tables right outside. Love the Manoa view and area as well so very nice to sit and enjoy. Sunday mornings also mean the Farmer's Market directly across the shopping center. Wonder if their sandwiches are just as good as their bread... read more
