Michigan City's attempt at a gastropub. I say attempt as it has the makings, but didn't quite reach the goal. The decor made the grade, the music was hard to hear and it was quiet in there. The food: well, I liked that they had pierogies as appetizers. They looked great when they came out, but had been cooked in way too much butter. Sad, I like pierogies. The salad was really good and fresh, even though they didn't have a honey/mustard dressing. The salmon was the smallest piece I ever saw (see pic) and it was stuck to the plank. I had to scrape it off the board. I took a pic of that but it looked kinda scary so I didn't post it. Keep trying Michigan City. You'll get there. The mac & cheese was super good too! They also are very environmental friendly, they do not use plastic silverware or plastic straws!! Ok, so I have been IN LOVE with the roasted beet salad for awhile now...that homemade green goddess, just wow. Tonight we added the lamb skewers, and ooooh weeee, a match made in flavor heaven. Seriously, this salad is.the.best. We also ordered the bang bang shrimp (amazing), pierogies (delicious, plenty of filling and a very light dough) the lobster roll (on that melt-in-your-mouth buttery bread) with homemade chips and lemon garlic aioli. I had a lattachata martini and the lemon cake for dessert. Everything including our server, I'm terrible with names, was wonderful. I love going home fat and happy after a great meal. First time coming here. Had lunch and it wasn't very busy. I got the Citrus-pecan salmon and my boyfriend friend got their Thursday special of 1/2 slab of ribs. Both dishes were really good. My salmon was cooked perfectly, the mash potatoes tasted wonderful and although the roasted vegetable mix wasn't my favorite (squash, onion, mushrooms, possibly egg plant) the roasted flavor was still good to me. The ribs fell off the bone and tasted good as well. I would have liked more pecans on my salmon but that's just my preference. It may be awhile before we come back just because we live over an hour away in Michigan. Service was wonderful too. Very friendly. read more

This was my first time here- didn't even know this place existed. We went for the Impossible burger. It was ok- I didn't care for the sauce they used or the fried onion rings they placed on the burger. I tried the sweet potato tots- they were just ok too. I'm sure I'll be back at some point to try other items- they do have several options that can be made vegan and not just vegetarian. Happened upon Fiddlehead while exploring the area. The beautiful rainbow flag outside caught our eye. So we stopped by for lunch. The food was delicious! Ordered the Pierogi as an appetizer and a Cosmo and the Wildflower as cocktails. Very tasty cocktails with unique offerings. The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was the perfect amount of spicy with sweet red peppers on a fresh soft roll. Meat was so tender. The fries seemed hand cut and were fried to Golden perfection. Waiter was attentive and the owner or manager even stopped by to ask if we were enjoying ourselves. Would definitely recommend! I sometimes lose track after multiple Michigan City business trips, but by my foggy count, I've dined at the Fiddlehead Restaurant once for Lunch and twice for dinner. One of the Dinners was especially memorable as it involved a Shepard's Pie dish that so light and flavorful. The lunch (with Vic S. and Jesse Mo) was a nice time out, with a nice selection, and a good salad choice on my part. Fresh and local ingredients do make a difference. The restaurant itself consists of a fairly large room, with clean/straight lines and a nice bar area. My only quibble is that they don't offer draft beer. Service was very good and the people working there were helpful and friendly. An interesting tidbit is that part of the financing for Fiddlehead came from a Kickstarter campaign. I'm on that site fairly regularly and I'm sorry I missed that opportunity. read more

I really have liked a few entrees here in the past, even during covid. Today was different unfortunately. I came with my kids for lunch. They wanted burgers and I wanted to give down town Franklin st some business. The service was good but I was not prepared for how expensive sandwiches/fries were. $57.74 for a chicken sandwich, 2 burgers, and pulled pork sandwich all came with fries( which were over cooked or old and re heated, the were hollow, no potato inside the fry and way too greasy. My chicken sandwich was good, burgers were all right, but the pulled pork was made prior and re heated on the grill top which dried out the pork and had black burned pieces on the meat which my son had two bites and could not eat. I would have not served that. Overall I feel like a paid Hard Rock Cafe prices in Chicago without the Chicago views and most of the food was not edible. We should have just went to Rally's fast food, next time for sandwiches in downtown Michigan city. read more

Coming from Chicago where ordering lobster pasta from a restaurant typically means getting lots of pasta and little piece of lobster, Fiddlehead was a welcome change! I ordered the Lobster Mac 'n' cheese which was creamy with bread crumbs, three cheeses, celery, and large fresh pieces of lobster tail and claw meat. BEST lobster mac I've had in the Midwest! My boyfriend ordered the Lobster Diablo pasta which was a spicy spaghetti with again, large lobster tail and claw meat pieces. Both entrees came with a long piece of garlic bread-- super buttery and crispy and hot out of the oven. The staff was wonderful and attentive. My boyfriend orders iced tea everywhere and drinks like a thirsty horse so usually needs at least 4 refills and I was so impressed that our waitress kept bringing a fresh tea every time he got to the end of his glass. She gave great recommendations and was a ray of sunshine to our meal! read more

I opted for the soup if the day -Gazpacho. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Hubby had the Lobster Roll sandwich (loaded with large pieces of fresh Maine lobster - ok, the only non-local item on the menu) and a side salad that was large. I had the grilled vegetable open-faced sandwich that contained roasted peppers, artichokes, onions, and mushrooms piled high on house-made bread and topped with goat cheese. Both entrees came with a side of fries, but you could swap them out for any other house-made sides. My mouth is watering as I write this review. I came for the burger and fries, so I can't speak to the other menu items. The burger came out perfectly prepared. I upgraded mine to add bacon, grilled onions and pretzel bun. I would have liked it to come with a sauce, but it was very tasty even without. Parmesan truffle fries were spot on, and the dipping sauces were all tasty - chipotle mayo, bang bang sauce, and my favorite - the lemon garlic aioli. The lemon was a bit stronger than I would have preferred for dipping fries, but as a companion to the burger it blended amazingly well. Washed it down with a bottle or two of rootbeer. My daughter had the chicken parm which was perfectly cooked and flavored. Prices were very reasonable. We've always randomly popped into Fiddlehead since they first opened years back but I've never been as impressed as I was with our most recent visit. The staff were all very friendly, accommodating and cautious of the COVID regulations. The food and drinks were amazing as usual. The portion sizes and quality of the food for the price is undeniable! Now that things are somewhat starting to go back to normal we will definitely be adding Fiddlehead back to our list of regular stops! read more
