I'm frugal, that's the quickest way to make me emotional. Partner that with the slowness of receiving my meal... It leads to this average review. First I want to say that my previous visits to this establishment have been very satisfying and I enjoy the staff's friendliness and the very good tasting food. Now, that being said, today I visited with my family for breakfast after church and I actually decided on a Roast Beef Sandwich and Tomato Soup. Again, I enjoyed the meal thoroughly that I decided that I wanted some more soup for my lunch at work later that day so I ordered one to go. To my surprise and displeasure, when I opened my container to heat it up, this is what I found (I lie to you not) not even half full. I was more than upset not only due to the lack of but now I didn't have time to run and get lunch from anywhere else so I'm more than a little ticked off right now and I'm using a nice term. The food here is good, although the 4 start is mainly for the French toast and the biscuit and gravy dish. The French toast is made in a custard dipping that brings the taste to the next level! The Benedict is average like you would get anywhere else. The kale tonic drink is amazing! The other seasonal drink are good too, but don't compare to it. This was my first time here and we started and ended with very slow and minimal wait service. We ordered the Elevated Egg Sandwich and the Everything Smoked Salmon Benedict. Thought it'd be good with all the good reviews. Turns out that was far from the case for us. Waited a little over an hour for the food to come out after waiting 30 minutes for a spot to sit, and 15 minutes for a waitress to even notice us. Then we only got refills once despite the water jug "milk glass" they provide being empty the entire time. The hot chocolate was nice and creamy though despite it not being very hot. That's the common theme throughout this meal. Everything was cold or lukewarm. I got the Morning Market Veg, which had very little flavor, I was definitely expecting it to be bright and flavorful and "healthy" tasting. The zucchini was definitely over cooked, some of the pieces were burnt, and nearly all of them were shriveled, dry, and flavorless. The kale wasn't heated and was still super crunchy unfortunately, the mushrooms were cooked nice but had no flavor, and the tomatoes popped? But that's literally what they're supposed to do so nothing impressive there. Literally they put cold butter on my cold toast and expected me to eat it with no melting? Ha no, never. My potatoes weren't fully cooked either and some of them were halfway raw in the middle, so that was cool. My girlfriend had the Tri-Fecta, both of her eggs were cooked differently and were totally wrong from what she ordered. The bacon was nice, but again the waffle was cold and paired nicely with the nearly frozen ball of butter they threw on top. She got a side of biscuits and gravy that we agreed was tied with the hot chocolate for being the best thing we ordered. We ordered the Holey Donuts expecting them to be an appetizer, sadly they weren't. They describe it as having a cinnamon sugar dusting on top, as to what gives it the dark brown coloring, I call that being extremely overdone and dry. Because that's what they were, overcooked, and super dry. The berry compote tasted great though on its own and on the part of the waffle we ate. I really really hate wasting food, but pretty much everything was left half-eaten on the plate. Normally I try to force it down, but even I can't force down a raw piece of kale that wasn't placed into the omelet when it was still hot. I don't suspect we'll be back to this one next time we're in town. read more

My friend invited me to brunch at the First Watch restaurant on 830 NW Loop. It was my first time, She'd eaten there before and she told me I would not be disappointed. I'm very pleased to report, she was right! The freshly made Blueberry Muffins were excellent, I also had the Roast Beef & Havarti sandwich and side Spring mix salad with a lemon dressing that was absolutely delicious! The restaurant was getting ready to close for the day, but the staff remained very kind and accommodating. Marsha, the manager and Matthew our server were both phenomenal. Both were refreshing. Açaí had a more sweeter taste. And the kale tonic was more crisp and clean tasting. Not too overpowered by kale. I wish I could get a bigger glass since it was so filled with ice. Matcha latte pancakes ($9.29) were delicious. Try without syrup first. But if you do want it sweeter then syrup away. Otherwise, I did like the fruits and granola on top. Two for you ($7.79) which could be half a sandwich, 1/2 salad, or a cup of soup. You get to choose two out of those options. I did the sandwich and soup. Monterey club and Italian wedding. Both were good. But I definitely was left wanting more. It wasn't as filling and probably not worth the portion for the price. First experience trying out First Watch was great. It wasn't too packed when we got there so we only had to wait 3 min for a table. I had the lemon curd pancakes with sausage links on the side and our table had a coffee pot with a container filler with different creamers. Service was friendly and wait time for the food was decent. Their lemon curd pancakes were SO GOOD! So light and fluffy the strawberries they used to top them were also very fresh. Same goes for the coffee, hot and fresh- delicious! Food was hot and this place is reasonably priced nothing too overly expensive like other brunch places for the service and quality you get. Other dishes my friends got were the yogurt granola bowl and the salmon eggs Benedict which both looked really good as well. Highly recommend this place! read more

This review is based on my visit to First Watch at the Colonnade on 12/23/17. First impression? Basic. The fare is good, but simple to the point of being plain. This will not be the place to visit if you are looking to share pretty food with your friends. While I look to taste as the primary and defining factor for returning to a restaurant, I also look for attention to detail in the presentation of the food itself. I tend to find parallels in the external presentation of something to the attention to detail that is infused into the meal preparation as well. I have to add that in addition to its presentation, the quantity of food was somewhat insufficient. It doesn't help to have a huge plate be half empty either. To be fair, I think my preparer on that particular visit must have been in a hurry and my waiter didn't think twice about making the plate more palatable by fixing the obvious gaps between the food items on my plate. Maybe I am just being picky; maybe I just need to feel like I am getting something in return for what I am paying. And I did pay over $10 for my meal that day but what I got in return did not justify the price. On the positive side, the wait staff were patient and helpful. And that is why I would be willing to return to give this place a second chance. read more

After our first trip here was lack luster we decided to try again because our first trip wasn't great. Unfortunately this trip was also a disappointment. We had 2 small kids and ordered 2 kids pancakes, when the order came out the pancakes were gigantic...I really wish our waitress would have told us that the kids pancakes were so big. The lettuce in my side salad was wilted and tasted like old gross lettuce. My wife ordered her breakfast sandwich without mayonnaise dressing on the arugula (as was stated on the menu) but when she got her sandwich the bottom slice of bread had mayo all over it. Literally anything your breakfast loving heart desires... savory French toast made with brioche bread (for die for - dip in the jam ) smoked salmon, eggs benny, frittatas, açaí bowls, sandwiches... the menu is just fantastic and it was so hard to choose what to get. I started with the cold brew, which was delicious, and added some creamer - they have a variety of flavors at every table. I had the eggs breakfast sandwich and omg... amazing. I originally tried to go to another popular pancake spot, but this place had less of a wait so I went here instead. Parking was pretty easy and I didn't have to wait in line because I was dining solo. However, if you are coming with a group I'd recommend adding yourself to the waitlist before you get there because it was filling up quickly. I sat at the communal table. I ordered the "tri-fecta" which came with a pancake or waffle (I went with a blueberry pancake), two eggs (I did sunny side up) and your choice of meat (I went with the turkey sausage.) Overall, the pancake was PHENOMENAL. Probably the best blueberry pancake I've ever had! I took off a star because despite the size of the pancake, I didn't feel anywhere near full after the meal. I would have ordered more but my server had already given me the check and was nowhere to be found. I'd recommend ordering something extra on the side like hash browns (if they offer them) or an extra pancake. Overall the meal was delicious and I wouldn't hesitate to come back. She never contacted anyone to have the booths cleaned, instead her attitude was condescending and that of entitlement; if we chose to ask for something other than what she had offered, then she was going to show us by making us wait.
