3 stars b/c: Very casual, inexpensive for the quality and the amount of food they give you, and the restaurant is relatively clean. The food was pretty tasty at a good value compared to other average Chinese places like Fu Lam Mum. The waiter & staff were inviting, friendly, and attentive. You can dine-in with table service, take-out through the buffet express line, submit your order online prior to pick-up or dine-in. They offer FREE delivery with a minimum order of $30. Party platters are available too. Would've given 4 stars but knocked off 1 star because when I sat down at my table, the waitress accidentally knocked off the pack of chopsticks on my plate (which landed on the floor), and then picked it off the floor and put back on my clean plate. She didn't give me a new plate but instead a new pack of chopsticks, which was fine, but the chopsticks were wrapped and she should've given me a new clean plate-----I ended up wiping it myself with hot tea. There were 4 of us & we did dine-in in the dining area. They offer a wide variety of items----most (if not all) of their dishes are saucy and/or use oil (it is not bad at all, just my own preference to just have something more simple). BUT, THE GREAT THING IS: they have a NEW LITE FOOD MENU where ALL items are STEAMED (no fat, no oil used) with a choice of garlic sauce or black bean sauce on the side. There is also a "specials fresh seafood" menu, but you have to order those 2 hours ahead & the price will be based on market price----call the restaurant for menu selection b/c it is not shown online. For the most part you can view the rest of their menu items on their online ordering website---prices are listed as well. We ordered crab rangoon, pot stickers, westlake beef soup, prawn w/ lobster sauce, salt&ppepper fish, mongolian beef, sweet & sour chicken, prok ribs, combo chow fun, the new light prawns w/ mixed veggies.....a lot of food for 4 people, but we wanted a variety of items. the crab ragoon might have a biit a little too hard on the sides, but overall, it was all satisfying. There isn't much of an ambiance---dining in here is probably more enjoyable when you are accompanied by family or close friends (it'll be quaint). Not bad, not bad... decent Chinese food, reasonable prices and free delivery! The man on the phone who took our order was very pleasant... 4 spring rolls, mixed vegetables w/ tofu, garlic beef, veggie fried rice and chow mein. (note: delivery orders have a $30 minimum) Our food came in 15 minutes! It was pretty good, veggies were fresh and tofu was nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (they use silken tofu in their mixed veggies and I prefer that to the firm tofu). This is the definition of good cheap Chinese food. Large portions at a great price. Their food is nothing special, but the price and the portions make it a great deal. Constantly come in for take out and am never disappointed. They're quick to make something if they don't have it out and I always feel welcome. First Wok is awesome! I am VERY surprised that they have gotten many bad reviews about it being not clean, greasy, and dirty. We have eaten their food for over five years and I have NEVER EVER experienced these bad things. In fact, I would gladly rate a six star because one of the workers there gave me a size large soup of egg flower soup for free when I only requested for one. That is so nice!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! My Wife and I have given the place every chance possible. Ordering at different times of the day, ordering different dishes, etc. Theres usually one dish that's OK, but the rest of the meal is old re-heated, tasteless, greasy, and smothered in some kind of sauce to hide its true condition. DONT TRUST THIS FOOD !!!!! Just ordered there last night, the food came fast and was hot, but you could instantly tell it was old, re-heated, greasy, smothered in too much sauce garbage. I was starving after a long day and ate it anyway. At about 4am I woke up with the worst stomach pain. Massive headache, couldn't stay off the throne and what came out of me smelled like death. I've been drinking PeptoBismal all day and replacing my body fluids. This was the ONLY meal I had eaten yesterday so I know it wasn't from anything else. My food was phenomenal. I ordered Hunan beef, House fried rice and Sesame chicken and the egg rolls. Those egg rolls were addictive when I ate them with soy sauce which wasn't provided and the House Fried Rice was the best fried rice that I had in decades. You could taste the eggs and they have flavor and the Rice wasn't mushy. The only places I had fried rice that good was in Germany and surprisingly Alabama. My four year old asked for Chinese one night, so we tried First Wok and have become loyal customers ever since. Everything I've ordered at this modest little place has been delicious! My daughter can't get enough of their orange chicken, but I'm partial to their yummy hot & sour soup and veggie rice noodles, and while I'm not big on tofu, I loved their salt and pepper crispy tofu dish! First of all, let me say that the moo shu pork is wonderful...after that, I can't really say anything positive. I ordered moo shu pork, chicken chow mein and sweet and sour pork. My total came to $28 which is pretty pricey for 3 items. Then I dug into the sweet and sour pork and almost threw up. The first bite was a giant piece of fat. Unfortunately every piece of pork was mostly fat. It was so bad that I literally threw it away. The chow mein was very gummy and had very little flavor. Bravo for this little Chinese food place! Have ordered take-out (ready in 10-15 minutes) there around 5-6 times, and each time was pleasantly surprised. The meats are all very tender and high quality, not too oily. Love the Mongolian Beef, Broccoli Beef, and the chock-full House Fried Rice. Tried the Orange Peel Beef and asked for it non-spicy and they went out of their way to prepare it specially. Heard from my neighbor the Mu-Shu pork was good, will try that next time! This location had been about 3 different restaurants in the space of a couple years so when First Wok opened we didn't feel the need to even try it, thinking it would be just as bad as the rest before it. Boy are we kicking ourselves now. We've only had sit-down dinner once but it was great (especially the mu-shu pork). Most people don't come here to dine because the buffet is so good, so inexpensive, they have many different dishes, and their portions are always huge. The fried rice is the best I've had, the house garlic chicken is awesome, and pretty much everything else here is great. The only knock on the place is that once or twice we came in for take-out and it didn't appear as though the food had been rotated or stirred in awhile, so it had a bit of an old look to it, which could turn you off quick. We get take-out from First Wok a few times a month at least. They have a great steam table selection, with plenty of meat and a fair amount of vegetables mixed in. Only a smaller pan of food is on the table, and they keep good check about making fresh amounts as needed. The food is fresh, well cooked and consistent in flavor and texture. For us it's just the right amount of taste - neither salty nor bland, and no greasier than other takeout places. It is a super deal for the amount of food they give - the container is over-packed to fill the lid with noodles or rice and entrees both. Each combo comes with a cup of soup. 3 boxes of combo will satisfy our family of 2 adults and 2 grade school kids with leftovers to supplement next day's dinner. We've also ordered off the menu with great results. We eat a lot of the beef broccoli and eggplant, hubby likes the salt and pepper fish and Mongolian beef as well. We also like the egg flower soup - yes, it's just egg dropped into thickened soup, but the corn adds a bit of sweetness and the saltiness level is perfect every time. They are very friendly here and remember our faces as well. We have seen them also be friendly with other regulars that come in, it just feels like a happy place to get food. Never had a bad dish. Looking forward to trying more ordering off the menu. There is a good sized dining area, but most people come for the take-out, I rarely see but a couple of loners who choose to dine-in. The TV is always on and never loud, sometimes with English programming, sometimes other languages. I don't know what changed with First Wok, but it hasn't been a change for the better. Before, we'd go in, sit down, and have wonderful Chinese food, fresh, heaped high and wonderful. Recently, the food has been rather...underwhelming when compared with the previous fare. Servings have shrunken in size...taste and freshness have declined. I love this place. Have been coming for years with no concerns. I had maybe 1 minor complaint that was very easily remedied. They have many signs here stating that they don't use MSG which I can understand from a health concern, but it can sometimes make some of the dishes taste a bit bland. However, I found that this is quite easily fixed by just adding a bit of MSG at home and then stirring everything together. This "adjustment" made their mixed vegetables and tofu my absolute favorite dish there for the fresh and crispy veggies mixed in the delicious tofu (seems medium firm? Not the super soft stuff and have good texture to it since it doesn't immediately break apart). Anyways, 5/5 food. For logistics, I also have nothing to complain about. Can quickly call in for takeout, drive over, pay/get food, drive home in 15-20mins. 5/5 logistics. Combining food and service scores rates them a 5/5 for me and would highly recommend to anyone looking for some good Chinese takeaway. read more
