This place is quite busy, but our party was pretty lucky in snagging a table quickly. They sell a lot of traditional Taiwanese dishes, and they are all pretty authentic. I got the beef noodle soup. Flavor wise it's pretty good, nothing that WOWs you but it satisfies the craving. The meats were pretty tender and the greens were fresh. I think the food here is pretty standard and probably above average, but it wouldn't be at the top of my list as places to go. read more

The bone broth was light and clean, the beef was generous and so tender and thick, and the noodle were very good and lots of it too 8/10. Pretty top notch Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup! Flavorful clear broth that tastes clean and not too salty. The pickled veggies and bok choy add a good contrast to the beef, which they are very generous with! I got the wide noodles and this became a really filling dish. Best beef noodle soup I've had in the Bay in terms of broth and overall flavor. I still have a special place in my heart for the hand pulled noodles at Ox 9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles but like Flaming Ox's beef noodle soup better overall! My husband did find it a touch on the salty side though. We also got their pork belly rice and it was soo yummy. My brother in law who regularly goes here said he liked it better than the pork chop he normally gets. Glad to have this place on our rotation for Chinese food! This is a new Taiwanese street food restaurant with very homey dishes such as beef noodle soup and minced pork belly rice. I came on a Saturday afternoon around 1230pm and a table of 3 had a 15min wait. They do participate in Yelp waitlist so I recommend signing up on the waitlist before you arrive! They do have a Taiwanese snacks store next door if you want your fill of pineapple cakes, sun cakes, or any other snacks you're craving from Taiwan! The popcorn chicken was really yummy and was a nice appetizer to start. I do wish it had some sort of aioli sauce for dipping though. I enjoyed both the minced pork belly rice and the spicy beef noodle soup which has a healthy level of spice. It has the smell of the beef soup but the taste was way off then the normal traditional spicy beef noodle soup. But , try it yourself and see the different. Not sure how the name Flaming OX came to be.  It gives me a vision of a cow on fire and desperately charging around to outrun his own fire.  Am I the only one with this vision? First time trying the flaming ox located in San Jose. Flaming ox offers authentic Taiwanese dishes. There are some of the dishes that we would like to recommend. 1. Mala Beef Noodle Soup. Not so many places Mala Beef noodle soup. Flaming ox offers quite authentic mala beef noodles soup, also the spice level can be adjusted to your level of tolerance. For me, the spicy level is "Medium" Broth is quite flavorful. They can be more generous with the meat portion. However, the meat cutting is quite thick. 2. Vegan "DanDan" noodle. The sauce is thick. And they use replacement meat. This is a great substitute for meat noodle soup for non-meat eaters. 3. We ordered some side dishes like green onion pancakes, popcorn chicken, cucumber salad, and rainbow salad. They are all come in small sizes (enough for 1-2 people size). We love the cucumber and rainbow salad. Green onion pancake is somewhat crispy. Popcorn chicken was delicious. 4. Fried pork chop. The size is quite small to share for 2 ppl. But the fried pork was crispy with enough seasoning. Goes well with the beef noodle soup. Definitely will be coming here to try their other menu. I had bookmarked this place for a bit so was excited to try it out. Once you're seated, you scan the QR code with your phone for the menu and to order. I got the Mala Beef Noodle Soup with thick noodles and half tendon half meat. The broth was decent but it was lacking some real flavor. I had to add extra chili crisp oil for some kick. After finishing about halfway through my bowl, I noticed there was a piece of hair stuck to my noodles. I wanted to finish my noodle soup but at that point I instantly lost my appetite and could no longer enjoy it. I placed the hair strand onto a napkin and showed the server. I like coming here because I don't have to drive from Fremont to Cupertino to my friend's restaurant. The dining area is a little tight especially between tables, but don't let that stop you from visiting this restaurant for its Taiwanese fare. The Beef Noodle soup with both beef and tendon are superb. You have two choices of noodles and the beef is tender but lacking silver skin/membrane. Each bite falls apart just right in your mouth. The Tendon is similar. You can tell that there was a lot of extra effort in the prep work since each cut is a perfect sized and perfectly shaped cube. Most places will typically give you relatively same sized cuts and with membrane (some people like that that chewy texture, most aren't accustomed to it though). The Fried Chicken Rice plate is good, but alone it turns out to be just enough for 1.25 meals. Add the "Pork Belly Sauce" for $1.50 and you basically have 1.5 servings. That makes it easy for me to portion one half of the plate and take a 25% hit on calories for that meal, which is probably a good thing for me since I need to cut back. I can easily reheat it next day for lunch. Service is good, but you might be inundated with questions about whether or not your food is good. I mean, feel free to ask me, but at least wait until I don't have a large mouthful of food. Price wise is a bit high, but it's on par with other restaurants of this class and same cuisine. Taiwanese food and Chinese food require a lot of prep work before hand, the recipes aren't exactly simple since you have to spend a lot of time earlier during the day to get all the sauces and soups ready for service. People are going complain about the cost because they don't value Asian food, originally lured in by traditionally below market value prices on their food, they have a mismatch in terms of what product they get vs what they're paying for. The only exception is the Spring Onion Pancake and the Cucumbers, slightly larger portions wouldn't cost that much more and could be worth being more generous to make ordering the rest of the dishes more palatable. That said, if you want low prep and lower cost, less sophisticated food, go get a sandwich from Erik's Deli or a Burger In n Out. If we want food to be cheaper, land lords will need to charge less on rent, food suppliers will need to be cheaper, and County CEPA (Consumer Environmental Protection Agency) will need to stop enforcing stupid rules about buying NSF certified microwaves for $1000 when a regular $100 dollar stainless steel model is fine. Saw this new place when I was in the plaza and finally decided to try it out! I noticed their menu had beef noodle soups and spicy beef noodle soup. To be honest, I haven't had very many types of beef noodle soup. I believe I've only had Lyang Lyang and Special Noodle so I honestly don't have very many places to compare it to. The food actually came out really fast! Like maybe 5 minutes? Definitely less than 10 minutes! I really liked the popcorn chicken! It was definitely the authentic Taiwanese popcorn chicken! It also came with a tea egg and that was also pretty good. As for the Mala Beef Noodle Soup, I think it was just okay. It was lacking sole flavor. Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure what type of flavor it was lacking, but I could just tell the flavor was a little weak. Again, I'm not a beef noodle soup connoisseur, but this is just what I think. Price was a little on the high side. $18 each. I would've thought that the popcorn chicken rice plate would be on the lower side, but I know the location is good so I understand that factors into the pricing. Came here on a Thursday lunch with a friend during their soft opening. We were craving a beef noodle soup place and saw that it was already highly rated after just opening, so we went to check it out. The place was somewhat small, but had plenty of seats when we came. I do think the wall seats need some sort of cushioning, the back of the seat was too far from the table so I didn't have any back support. The food was phenomenal. The popcorn chicken is more on the juicy/tender side with a slight crunch to it. It had some spiciness to it, personally not a fan of spicy popcorn chicken but it was still very good. The traditional beef noodle soup was sooooo good. It comes in mild spiciness, and this place does mild very well. You can taste the chili oil but it isn't overwhelming, perfect amount of spice to the broth. You can choose from thin or thick noodles, I like the texture of their thin noodles better. Love the noodles here. Tastes home-made and authentic. The staff is great as well. Had the traditional beef noodle with half tendons and the tendons were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. read more
