Much of my breakfast was tasty, such as my scrambled eggs (made to my liking) and nice crunchy hash browns that were not greasy. However, my main component of my order was the Chicken Fried Steak, and it, plus the white gravy, was underseasoned. Flo's is morethan just a coffee shop. It's your mom and pop's diner that serve good breakfast and lunch. I was looking for a go0d diner and ended up here to grab breakfast. I had coffee, a pancake, veggie omelette cheese with potatoes and buttered wheat bread. Their coffee taste good. Similarly, their veggie omelette taste good and of good portion. Pancake and wheat bread were soft, tasty and fluffy. Moreover, their potatoes were fresh and tasty. Staff were amiable, attentive, and professional and competent. Indoor atmosphere was very welcoming and typical mom/pops kinda vibe. Indoor seats were huge. No outdoor seating. Prices are fair and competitive. Ample of parking space. As an El Monte resident, I cannot believe I had not discovered this place before! The service is adorable! It's family-oriented and has a very homely feeling. If you are a regular, the staff will recognize you and will converse with you about how you're doing, what you're up to, etc. The food is great for an affordable price. It's a great deal deal here. Found this hidden gem on Yelp. After being approached from a young girl asking if we wanted drinks I was having second thoughts about being here. We asked for 1 coffee and 2 waters. My sister asked for a larger cup of water, her response I have to give you a water cup... what? She brought my coffee mug NO COFFEE. She refilled at a table next to us looked at me and kept walking with the coffee pot. Finally the waitress came to get our order. NATIVIDAD she changed everything. Based on all of the reviews, I was expecting a lot better. Our service was very good, but the breakfast food was only okay. My go-to breakfast is Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs with Biscuits and Gravy...Flo's steak was sort of bland; not much flavor to the sausage/gravy and it had a little too much flower (pasty) for my taste. The Pancake Combo was average. Prices for the food was reasonable, but the drinks were expensive: $2.95 for coffee and $3.65 for a soda. There's a small parking lot and on-street parking, but it's very hard to find a spot. I might give it another try, if I'm super hungry and driving by. read more

I was really craving some breakfast food after a hike, and decided to check Flo's out due to the stellar reviews. I mean, it wasn't bad...but it didn't really stand out to me either. I ordered the steak and eggs (sunny side up), which comes with one steak, a couple of eggs, a couple slices of bread, and some tater tots. I'll start off by saying that the tots are pretty amazing with the perfect amount of crispiness to it and the butter top bread slices were pretty good too. Unfortunately, the steak, which is what I was really craving, was pretty bad. Once it came out, I could already tell by how it looked that it wasn't going to be a good dish. It was slightly over cooked and the quality of the meat wasn't there, keeping in mind that I meant on a budget breakfast diner scale, not a fine steakhouse scale. I'll probably be back eventually since I'm always around this area, but I'll be sure to stick to the fan favorites next time. It was understaffed when we came in for breakfast for the first time and the waitress knew it. She was an older lady but she was so nice and attentive when she could be and apologetic about the situation. It happens, you know. Anyway, we had a group of seven of us. Our order was taken as quickly as it could be and the food came out quickly. It was delicious. Service was excellent and friendly. The waffles are so yummy, light and crisp. The Sour Dough French Toast was okay, a little overhyped. Eating sour dough was not a good mix with the cinnamon sugar for me. It seems Yelpers were very impressed with the coffee. I feel hesitant to write this but I legitimately stopped by here based of Yelp reviews, and was really disappointed. It might be that I'm that point in my life where, I'm understand I am a fat person. Because I looked at just the photos of the food on here and based it off that only. Sadly, the photos can only give you one perspective. That I will talk about in this review. The environment is really weird here, the walls are covered with historical memorabilia of El Monte on one side, and another with all this USA stuff. I get it, proud people to live in this country. It was until mid-way through my mediocre food, when a man who had waited an entire 20 minutes for his food gets up to yell "Let's go Brandon!", where things started to add up. I sat in my seat like the main character in a movie realizing he was in the wrong place. But I digress, let's talk about the food. This place has a ton of variety on the menu, a bit convoluted to be honest. I choose to get the chilaquiles with red sauce, waffle breakfast, coffee and Sprite. The service was friendly and prompt, I won't deny that, everyone was nice to me. It wasn't until I took a bite into my chilaquiles where things turned from bad to worse. It felt like someone threw some Fritos chips on a plate and covered it in Tostito's Chunky Red Salsa. Someone thought this was it....I will tell you it wasn't it. At all. This was not what I was expecting based on reviews here it was pretty tame and basic, mediocre at best. I moved it aside to try out this waffle, and it was really cake like. Not crunchy but it felt like I was biting into sponge covered in syrup. The eggs were okay and the sausage was straight up Farmer John, not a big deal. But overall the food was just meh. It wasn't the 5 stars everyone here is talking about. However, taste is subjective what might not be good for me, will be amazing to you. My girlfriend did catch one of the ladies in the back licking her fingers and locked eyes on her, which I told her to stop being rude. But that's gross, or could add to the flavor all the good reviews here are giving it. Who knows? But that was gnarly, I didn't see it she did and after 20 plus years of being together, she wouldn't lie to me. Also we were served our initial drink and that was it, no refills, no nothing. That was painful, I was thirsty as hell on this hot day I came to visit. My bill came out to like $50 bucks, I paid it and left. I would go back to this place but I'm scared to come back home feeling sad and depressed inside again. So probably not. read more

I was looking for a mamas & papas family owned breakfast place and I found it! I felt like old fashion grits, eggs and pork shops. The pork chop order didn't included the grits so I substituted the potatoes with the grits. Fine there. Coffee was amazing and didn't burn my tummy. Then,my order arrived. It had 3 pork chops!!!! Yikes! I ate 1 and took the other 2 for later breakfast. My 3 companions also got large orders in their breakfast. My order was $13 and was well worth the money. I will definitely be back. After a 5 hour flight between Honolulu and Los Angeles, sometimes you just want something simple and familiar. This is it. Flo's Diner is a cute place with reasonable prices, free parking, good service and great food! I had the homemade Corned Beef Hash with eggs over easy and Hash browns. Portions were generous as evidenced by my leftovers! I enjoyed the slightly crisp edges of the Corned Beef and Hash Browns because the insides are soft and moist! Yum! The contrast in textures is fun and the flavor was perfect (not too salty and not too spicy)! Coffee was just right with refills that I didn't have to ask for! Thank you! ! Have been meaning to try this spot since seeing it on Burrous' Bites a while back, just haven't found myself in the area in a bit.Happy to report that the affable Chris Burrous didn't steer me wrong. Keep your eyes peeled because if you aren't actively looking for it, you'll probably drive right by and end up kicking yourself for missing the opportunity to eat a bomb breakfast That said, you should never kick yourself. Save that opportunity for the people that really can't stand you.That way you have a reason to kick them back. Wait time was non-existent since there were a couple of seats open at the counter. We ordered and were served in record time. The pancake combo was huge, omelet served piping hot, salsa appropriately spicy, and the vegetable soup grrrrreat. This place is amazing! We live close by and drove by quite often but never went in until our landlord suggested it to us. It's a cute mom and pop type place with lots of really old, amazing pictures of the city. The food is great. I tried the green chilaquiles and potatoes O'Brian and it was so delicious I have ordered the same thing ever since. My son loves the kids pancakes. I work in El Monte and the only thing open at 6 am is Flo's I've been let down once because my boss ordered French toast and he got no syrup and Saturdays were hard to order in a head of time. I'm glad this is my only option I'm supporting small business. Everything I've tried has the taste of quality. Nothing has tasted out of a can everything is well seasoned and not exaggerated with seasoning. We eat here 4 to 5 days a week and we have no complaints about eating here.
