Always a pleasure to dine at Foo Chow. Was seated right away on Saturday after the lunch rush hours. Every single trip, Orange Chicken and Soup are always a must. Half soup order is enough for a group of four with each person getting a serving.

3.5/5 stars We ordered for delivery. Everything was just alright. Large portions. I was very excited about the orange chicken but the sauce wasn't tangy and the chicken was heavily breaded. The bbq pork was good with the bbq sauce but dry. The shrimp fried rice was good, with plenty of large shrimps.

Missing meat! This is pork fat and batter I discovered once I started opening the pieces and looking. This is what is being sold as meat.

As much as I travel around the Los Angeles area and eat out, I've had many great meals and I've offered many great reviews. But every now and then I have an experience that really does not live up to mine, nor any standard, and that was my experience at Foo Chow. Let me tell you about it. It came at the end of my day, hungry and just looking for a plate of sweet-and-sour pork with rice, which is what I ordered. The food came out. It looked nice, large pieces of sweet-and-sour pork... So I thought. I began eating and the flavor was OK but halfway through my meal I realized I've been eating, but I can't remember really chewing any actual meat. So with half of my plate just about gone, I used my time investigating the other half of the plate. I got my spoon in my fork and began to peel back the coating on the pieces of "meat". Honestly, I was really hard pressed to find very much meat. To give you an idea the amount of meat that was in one piece was maybe 20 to 30%. The rest of it was fat and batter (pictured). I ordered "Sweet and Sour Pork" not "Sweet-and-Sour Pork FAT". The server never came to check on me. The guy behind the counter eventually came toward the END of the meal to ask how everything was and I told him there was very little meat in this dish. He responded with "well that is the batter, it swells". Frankly, the weak excuses are not needed nor desired. He left for a couple minutes and came back with the bill and said he talked to the guy in the back and he admitted to cutting the meat very small. He then went on to say that he will start cutting it bigger moving forward. this is totally fine for anybody coming after today, but I'm here now and I was served up a plate of fat and batter, but there was no attempt at fixing this situation that I was in and to top it off now I was expected to pay for it. this was my first time coming to this restaurant. I came because someone referred me to the restaurant. I have to say I was most disappointed. My experience left an unfortunate impression. Just as I share experiences of great meals, great service great establishments, I also have to balance it out with reviews when it's just not a satisfying experience, such as this. Such a shame Foo Chow. I tried... you did not.

Tucked into Chinatown, there's a Chinatown night market food stall on Saturday night. Parking: Parked at a side street and walked all the way over to the restaurant. There's not a lot of designated parking spots available for Service: Fast and efficient. Shrimp w/ lobster sauce: It's okay. Big juicy pieces of shrimp. Shrimp w/ Walnuts: Not that great compared to Chinese food in SGV, but it's okay. Lemon meyers slices with shrimp drenched in mayo and

At a corner and easy to find with its green paint and noticeable wording of rush hour. When we went in it was not busy yet but crowd started to trickle in. It is a standard Chinese joint if you know what I mean. Simple service, not much follow up after meal given, not the most wondrous decor. But what is most important is the food! Got the fried rice and beef chow fun. Portion standard but price is sadly so high. Of course it's the economy too but I would at least increase portion! It is too bad that most Chinese food now cost double but portion has stayed same from 5 years ago. Flavor wise it's standard and good. You can find same food in other Chinese restaurant.

I don't understand the low review. I had a spectacular time and the food was THE BEST. Service was attentive, ambiance was relaxing and you can identify the table Carter sat at. Highly recommend honey walnut shrimp because these shrimps r huge, hot and sour soup was def the best I've had and the crispy duck may look unappetizing but tastes very good and all items before tip was under 100 dollars. Highly highly recommend this place for family style!

This is one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants to go to in LA. Of course it's iconic for being in the first Rush Hour movie and I love that but the food is also good. I usually get their shrimp and broccoli in garlic sauce. I will say it doesn't seem like the decor has changed since I was younger but I love it nonetheless. And it's right across the street from the Chinatown's central plaza where's there's a bunch of small shops to go to and Bruce Lee's statue

I drive from San diego to l.a just for this place. Even thought juntao isn't their but the place is good. This is my 5th time coming here with no review but here it is orange Chiken always good Also the chow main is good Following the fried rice 100%

A simple Chinese restaurant in Chinatown downtown LA but some amazing food. They're specialized in seafood but they also have other dishes. The Jackie Chan film "Rush Hour" was partially filmed there. It is a very modest restaurant with reasonable prices and typical Chinese restaurant service. It's an older building with small restrooms and simple furnishings, but the food is excellent and it is not expensive. Ambiance not much but nice to compare to the movie scenes and saw cool photos of that time on the wall. Nearby businesses were closed or closed down mostly.

What better way to celebrate Chinese New Year in Los Angeles than by going to Chinatown? Unfortunately, quite a few people had the same idea! We ended up at Foo Chow after unsuccessfully trying to get into another restaurant nearby. This place only had a 5 minute wait, so we decided to have a couple quick dishes here to see what it was all about. Situated on Hill, across from the iconic Chinatown Central Plaza, the location of this restaurant is great. It would appear they've been in operation since 1977, which is also impressive. It was even more exciting to find out that this was a filming location for the movie Rush Hour. Who would have known? While our time here was short, we had a great experience. Service was nice, quick, and efficient. I'm happy we tried this place!

A Charming, Star-Studded Dining Experience at Foo Chow I recently discovered Foo Chow and it's quickly become one of my favorite spots. Fun fact: a Jackie Chan movie was filmed here, so you get a little Hollywood magic with your meal! From the moment you walk in, the staff greet you warmly and serve piping‑hot tea to start. Every dish is made fresh to order, and the quality shines through in every bite--flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. Foo Chow strikes the perfect balance for a cozy date night or a relaxed family gathering. The atmosphere is intimate without feeling stuffy, and there's plenty of space for a small group of friends, too. Bonus tip: swing by for their lunch special, available from 11 AM to 2 PM, when all entrées are half‑off. It's an unbeatable deal on an already great menu. Highly recommend checking out Foo Chow--you'll leave happy, full, and maybe even one scene closer to stardom!

Old school since 1977. I've been wanting to eat here for years and I finally stopped by for dinner, they close at 900pm. For the movie buffs they filmed Rush Hour (1998) here. They offer dinner specials with a list of different main courses for 23 dollars which includes soup, appetizers, steam rice, and tea. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and to my surprise it was a lot of food, enough to box up and take some home.

Stopped in on a rainy LA day and parked across the street at the $5 parking garage but if you're lucky maybe you'll find street parking. There was tables for couples up to 8 people at a round family style table with a lazy Susan in the middle for rotating the à la carte style entrees around the table. We had 6 people in our group and were served promptly through the hustle and bustle of the Saturday crowd. This food was exactly what I want Chinese food to taste like. No soy sauce needed. Nothing extra needed on anything we touched. Absolutely amazing. The walnut shrimp was the star of the show for sure. 10/10 highly recommend, matter of fact we ordered two because that's how good it was. The combination noodles were absolutely delicious as well, my only complaint that there was only one shrimp and we wanted more shrimps. The cashew chicken was also delicious, the perfect ratio of chicken to veggies with mushrooms cashews zucchini and celery. We ordered the Mongolian beef which was full of sautéed onions, not bad I just wish it was a little more saucy. My son who is a self proclaimed orange chicken connoisseur thought the orange chicken here was mid. They use dark meat for the orange chicken and we weren't impressed with the sauce. It was the least touched entree surprisingly but to be fair there wasn't anything truly wrong with it. Overall the food was delicious and we will definitely make an effort to come back. Surprisingly this inconspicuous spot was in Rush Hour so it almost makes a cute tourist spot if you're a blockbuster fan. Of course now we have to rewatch the movie.

It was a but busy when we got there but luckily we got seared pretty shortly after arrival. We originally wanted to sit at the bar, but opted for a table for less wait time. When first looking at the menu we were shocked by the prices. I knew immediately i wanted to get the hui tou potstikers with pork and noodles. We ended up adding on the hongkong style wontons too. To my suprise the wontons arrived in a delicious and warm broth, keeping them perfectly moist and plump. The broth was so delicious even on a hot day, tasting faintly of sesame and scallion. Despite both dishes being pork they were so different and equally amazing in flavor. The pan fried potstikers which were CRISPED TO PERFECTION especially reminded me of black bean shortribs that you get from dimsum, fatty but hearty and had me wanting more and more each bite. The minced pork noodles were to no suprise, so good. Noodles tasted fresh, the sauce was umami with mushrooms and pork. While im not the biggest fan of mushrooms, i still ate it up. I feel it would be so good with some picked cabbage too to complement the saltiness. Most notable thing... THAT CHILI OIL. We probably used almost half the jar left at the table. It wasnt spicy at all, but it had this flavor that i genuinely have never tasted before. The texture of the chilli and sesame and the nutty flavor had me in awe. Enough to take two jars home... i would do it again. Servers were so quick, made sure everything we needed was at the table. Regardless of the crowd we were met with promptness and generosity. This that wonton place your girl tells you not to worry about forreal. Will be coming back despite the long drive from home.

That was my first mistake -- they don't even serve mu shu pork. That one's on me for not checking the menu first. I ended up getting my kung pao chicken and settled for the Mongolian beef, and veggie egg rolls. The Mongolian beef I could definitely pass on. The kung pao chicken was good at first, but somehow lost its flavor as the meal went on. The egg rolls were just okay. Nice and crispy on the outside, but too mushy on the inside for my liking. I was also pretty surprised (and a lot sad) that they didn't have hot mustard. The tea was really good though! Service was fine. The server was attentive, just clearly busy keeping up with all the takeout orders coming through. Ambience is definitely on the lower side here, so don't come expecting a nicer Chinese restaurant. Then I went back to Firstborn twice within three months. This newly listed 2025 tasting menu spot actually made me feel a little hopeful about LA fine dining again. The shiso with razor clam and beef cheek cochon, and the black cod with green Sichuan pepper mala noodles, are both full-on collisions between deep animal savoriness and sharp, vivid spice. Then dishes like roasted artichoke and morel stuffed with green peas bring the seasonality into clear focus. The menu is not huge, but every dish has a defined structure and a bold sense of movement. On paper, it reads a little mysterious and intimidating; once you eat it, everything suddenly makes perfect sense, and honestly, it gets addictive. The ingredient selection and handling are also seriously thoughtful. Take the aged duck main course. I am very much a "if there is duck on the fine dining menu, I'm ordering it" person, and I've had plenty of beautifully rich, tender duck breasts. But Firstborn's version, beyond being tender and luscious, had that Cantonese sense of "gan xiang" -- the sweet, savory aroma you get from naturally air-dried, aged meats. For a second, I had this flashback to going with my family as a kid to Xing Fu Lou in Wenquan for Lutian cured meats during winter solstice. Absurdly good. Calling it the Duck King of the West Coast does not feel excessive. On my second visit, the truffle and wild mushroom "gnudi" was also excellent. The moment it hit the table, that intense truffle aroma made me think of the deep, earthy punch of French Périgord black truffle. But then I thought, wait, where are they getting Périgord in June? Turns out they were using Australian winter truffle, perfectly in season. That sourcing logic is smart. It is not expensive for the sake of being expensive; it actually understands the flavor window. The fire-grilled lamb saddle on the second visit was just as strong. It preserved the soft, tender texture of the cut without losing that sweet, milky lamb flavor. Grilled over open flame to a rosy medium rare, the flavor, doneness, and ingredient choice all landed. To me, a great restaurant comes down to three things: concept, ingredients, and seasoning. Some fine dining places love making everything complicated, stacking seven or eight ingredients together, serving a dozen-plus courses, and by the end you feel exhausted and sleepy. I think I want to say, it doesn't taste normal. Maybe it is good and special for some people, but my party don't really enjoy the interesting taste and the non-alcoholic drink which I order tastes very weird, which I can't finish it- even it is just like 1-2oz? My friend's cocktail tastes very so so too. The restaurant is nice and clean. We were there to celebrate a birthday, but we didn't know the restaurant doesn't have any candles. They didn't offer to sing a birthday song or anything for us. I really don't think we will come back again. Not recommended.
