This place should definitely be rated higher because I always have a great experience whenever I visit (3 times so far) and the food and drinks are very memorable. The past two times I've visited, I ordered the Chow Mein noodles with chicken add on and I try not to eat them too fast because that's how good they are! In the past I've also ordered the scallion pancake and it was so flavorful and crispy, a well balanced appetizer for sure. Lastly I highly recommend ordering the Lucky Cat Shot, which has jasmine infused golden eagle vodka mixed with pandan rice milk. It's so delicious, creamy, and served in a cute teapot and cups for sharing amongst the table. It serves about 3-4 people.
Came here on a whim after work one day because we were feeling like sweet n sour chicken. We branched out and also tried the dumplings. All of the food was extremely delicious and the service was amazing. The whole place has a calming atmosphere with a cool area where you can observe people making the dumplings by hand. 10/10
I've been to the location in Irving, so I wanted to try out the one in Dallas. This place definitely has a Dallas vibe (can't really describe it, but you know it when you see it). The prices were definitely more expensive than i remember, but the food came out relatively quick. The xiao long baos were really good. The soup was flavorful and the dumpling skins weren't too thick. The chili wontons were delicious as well. The scallion noodles were about what I expected. We also got the green beans and those were yummy too.
Another great experience at Fortune House Chinese Cuisine and it continues to be one of my Greenville go-tos! We arrived toward the end of happy hour (3-6 PM) and were able to order several items at happy hour pricing, including dumplings and half-priced signature cocktails. The value during HH is hard to beat! Beautiful, well-balanced cocktails at half off makes it an easy yes! They also offer a daily reverse happy hour starting at 9 PM. Everything we ordered: Orange Chicken Salted Egg Yolk Prawns (first time ordering) Tea Smoked Duck (first time ordering) Beef Chow Fun Snow Pea Leaves Pan Fried Pork Buns Pork Xiao Long Bao Crab Rangoon Everything was delicious as usual! Tea smoked duck was good but personally I prefer Peking duck. The space has a chill, moody lounge vibe that works just as well for dinner with friends as it does for date night or even a solo seat at the bar. Parking nearby is fairly easy, which is always a plus on Greenville. A special shoutout to our server, Daisy. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure our timing with happy hour was seamless. Service like that makes the experience even better! Definitely a repeat spot for us!
My displeasure with Fortune House's quality and service is based on repeated experience. I don't typically leave negative reviews, especially as someone who is active on Yelp. I would have let this slide if it happened once. I ordered through Uber Eats, and this is now the second time the fried rice I clearly paid for with both entrees was missing from my order. After the first time, I called to let them know, and the response was dismissive. When it happened again, I called again and got the same lack of concern. At that point, it's not a mistake, it's a pattern. At these prices, basic order accuracy and customer service should be a given. As for the food, it's average at best. It doesn't even reach Panda Express level in terms of consistency or flavor, which makes the pricing even harder to justify. I don't see the value here, and based on repeated issues and the lack of accountability, I wouldn't recommend.
The BEST beef and broccoli I have ever tasted, and my friend agreed. The beef AND the broccoli were so so tender, and the sauce was just perfect. So, we shared the pork xiao long bao (six steamed pork dumplings in broth) were TDF! And, for the holidays the pastry was in red and green! We also shared two lunches ($15 each). Obviously, the B&B and the sesame chicken as well (very tasty). Served with choice of soup (we both went with hot & sour which had such amazing flavors!). The lunches are served with fried rice (really dry) and a veggie spring roll. Fun to watch the dumpling masters make them in a glass room...they are skilled. Also nice to see they have SPACE to move vs the world-famous Din Tai Fung (that has got to be a fire/health hazard - yikes!). We sat at the bar and our server was sub-par at best. Nice, just not 'on it'...didn't offer the lunch menu, had to ask for the sweet & sour sauce for the spring rolls, and overall just not very attentive. He had 4 customers at the bar. Overall, I will definitely be back!
Came in as they were opening for lunch. When I walked in, the hostess was still trying to set up, there was a family ahead of me and after she got them seated and came back, she asked me if I had a reservation. Not to be funny but the place is empty and it's just me. I tell her no, that I'm here for lunch and she's talking to other employees while trying to get me taken care of. She starts walking and didn't say anything (follow me, let me show you to your table), so I said "follow you" and she says "yes". I get seated, look at the menu and I realize that I don't have a lunch menu. Adam my server comes over, fills my water glass and tells me he will give me a moment to review the menu, however I ask him for a lunch menu which he goes and grabs for me. I order the General Tso's chicken with white rice, the hot and sour soup, and an egg roll. The soup came out first and it was served with wontons. The soup was more sour than hot. I added some soy sauce to balance out the soup and then really enjoyed it. Adam asked me if I would like another bowl but at this point I was anticipating my meal so I declined (hindsight, I should have gotten another soup!) The meal came and I will say I was a bit disappointed. The chicken didn't have much flavor and the rice was dry. I asked Adam by chance was this left over rice and he reassured me it had just been cooked and stated that it may have not been mixed and I got rice from the top which tends to be drier. I love egg rolls, I did not love or even like their egg roll. It was crunchy on the outside which was great however I didn't know if it was undercooked on the inside or what was inside it but it was not to my liking. I asked Adam about their tea service and he explained in great depth about the service, which I greatly appreciated as I was planning on coming back with a group of ladies who enjoy tea. He also informed me that they offer a simple syrup for the tea vs sugar which is good to know. I tried the green tea and if you like green tea, you'd probably like this. Now I can go on and on about Adam, he was a great server and very knowledgeable, friendly, honest and helpful. The key for me is will I go back . . . And honestly I'd go back for the soup and would try something else.
We stopped here after a day of walking around and it totally hit the spot! I had the broccoli chicken, my friend had the basil chicken, both were super flavorful with perfectly tender chicken. Portion sizes were just right for lunch when you don't want to lug leftovers around. We also tried the soup buns great flavor, though they did fall apart a little quicker than expected. The outdoor ambience on a crisp fall day was perfect, and the inside is even cooler. Service was professional, kind, and on point. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for a cozy, satisfying meal.
Our first time dining at Fortune House was incredible! Service here was very attentive, thorough, and friendly. - For our starter plates, we had the Pork Xiao Long Bao and the Scallion Pancakes, both were delicious. The Scallion Pancakes were very crispy. - For our main, we had the half order of the Tea Smoked Duck, which was very flavorful and was served with soft buns. The duck had a lot of bones, so some of the pieces were more bone than meat, but overall, it was a good portion of duck. - For dessert, we had the Custard Buns, which were egg custard-filled buns and were so flavorful and not too sweet. It was the perfect dessert! - The cocktails here are so great! The classic Fortune-tini was one of the best lychee martinis I've had in Dallas.

The flavor of the food was on point. I was craving orange chicken - it was perfectly crispy. The tea smoked duck was good (but a lil too smokey for me but my friend loved it). I went here with my girlfriend and her sister and we have wanted to go for a while! We ordered the bar buns, bok choy, a pork dish and fried rice. Everything was very tasty and was a good amount of food as well! It was very cold inside the restaurant so bring a jacket!! I would recommend and come back. read more
Food was pretty good although slightly over priced for what you get. Service was great and fast with the food. We did make a reservation though which was not really honored, they didn't take us back to our table until 30 minutes later which risked us being late to our movie unfortunately. If you guys do a reservation, be cautious on what you schedule afterwards. Ambiance was great, it reminded me of like a futuristic Hong Kong! Highly recommend getting the dumplings, they're very well made. read more

Dumplings are one of my favorite foods, so Fortune House has been on my to-go list for a while! We went on a weekend, and the only available seating was in the bar area. I would highly recommend getting reservations. Surprisingly, given the location and modern vibes of the restaurant, the prices for the dumplings were actually quite reasonable. I had to try the pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings). It was honestly pretty good, especially for the DFW area. The dumplings were JUICY! Lots of soup inside. That being said, the flavor of the soup wasn't as developed as I would've liked, and it tasted more like chicken than pork. I tried some of my friend's pork and cabbage dumplings, which were very solid. The filling was also very juicy, and I liked the texture of the dumpling skin. I also ordered a drink - the Black Sesame Espresso Martini. The drink sounded incredibly creative, but I wasn't a fan of the execution. It was rather bitter, and I couldn't detect much black sesame flavor. read more

Fortune house was a good but I'm trying to decide if I would go again. I really liked how you could see the chefs making the dumplings in the back and the ambiance was nice. I did sit by the window so I was accompanied by quite a bit of flys. We ordered the dumpling sampler and the veggie and cabbage dumplings were my least favorites. Very pretty presentation though. Also ordered the chow mein with general tso chicken. Very good portions and tasted v good. Ordered the jade marg, and that drink was very sweet. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the service was not that good. I ordered a 2nd drink and cancelled it because it took way too long and then the fly friends who joined me for lunch is part of the 4 stars as well. read more

Welcome to Greenville. No longer do I need to drive to Irving for their excellent "Pan Fried Pork Buns" and soupy "Xiao Long Bao". Even more exciting at this location is their alluring bar, serving up enticing great creative cocktails. Alas, with all the other dishes tried at this location, every dish was very sweet. Not to my taste. And, like elsewhere, not enough servers to really accommodate the full, noisy, and busy main dining room. Being so, I will be a totally satisfied guest in coming back for cocktails and dumplings; all the while reminding myself to skip the rest. CHEERS! read more

My daughter and I visited Fortune House for lunch in Lower Greenville, after a self-tour of the area we settled on the Fortune House. It was mid-week and the restaurant was somewhat empty so we settled in. We were seated immediately which was nice. A waitress took 5-8 minutes to acknowledge we were there and a few minutes for the water to come to the table afterward. She was in a rush the whole time we were there and would ask questions as she walked by and in a very quiet voice so we were a bit annoyed by that. When we were finally able to have her stop and address us we quickly ordered our appetizer of crab rangoon which was not bad but lacked crab. when we got there, there was a bit of a wait, about 20-30 minutes, and it ended up being closer to 10 minutes, which is always nice! When we were sat, it wasn't long before our waiter came over and we quickly ordered appetizers and drinks! The vibe was amazing, they were playing pop music, which I absolutely loved! Decide to try this place since it had 4 stars but didn't realize how long it takes to actually get the food ... waited like 35 minutes for my plate , then 10 minutes later my girlfriends food comes out . Mind you I came on a Sunday and wasn't busy at all . Food was great but if I knew it was gonna take this long I would've just ordered my food an hour before I got here . This is a new restaurant, so I will give them some leeway. The food is good. I ordered MuShu Chicken and was also served Pork Buns (not what I ordered). The MuShu chicken had the right flavor, but the pancakes were the size of street tacos and they were puffy like naan or a pita. Not traditional at all. Also I would have preferred the chicken sliced in smaller pieces. Since the pancakes were quite small it was more like you were assembling a taco and not a MuShu "burrito." Also with the chicken being so large, it didn't really stay in the taco. But.....the flavor was good! I had ordered pan fried pork dumplings, and I was served pork Buns. I'll take part responsibility since after reading the menu again later the pork dumplings are called Cabbage Dumplings. So the pork Buns were just ok. I'm not a fan of them in general but I felt like the filling might not have been cooked all the way through. The service here is very friendly. Slow, but friendly. I ate at the bar on a Thursday night and it took forever to be acknowledged and a menu supplied. To the bar tenders defense, they were extremely busy. Good problem to have! 2 bartenders on and they were drowning in drink orders for the rest of the restaurant. Due to them being busy is probably part of why my order was wrong. I think the restaurant should consider 2 bartenders for the restaurant orders and 2 bartenders for the bar business. The place was packed with a line going out the door, so I think it would be a good move for them. As I said, they bartender was extremely friendly when she had a chance to breathe. So I don't fault her for anything. She was working her butt off as was the other bartender at the other end. I bet they were exhausted after their shift! The food came out extremely fast! That's awesome especially considering how busy the place was. So that's a huge plus for them. Keep up the fast kitchen service and y'all will be very successful once you hire on more bar staff. read more

This was my first time at fortune house and it was absolutely delicious! My friends live in the area and have been raving about their dumplings since they moved to Dallas. We got the soup dumplings, spicy wontons, cucumber salad, and an assortment of ala cart items. The service was very good. Our waiter was very informative about the menu and incredibly helpful. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It was very unique and stood out from all the other places we tried during our Dallas trip. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely go back! read more

I will preface this review by saying this is a new restaurant...maybe open a couple months and it shows. I'll start with the not so good. Our server seemed attentive but our food was slow to come out. When it did come it was wrong...THREE TIMES. The last time the server just dropped the plate on the table and walked off. We didn't get to tell him he dropped it to the wrong person so actually FOUR TIMES. Not to mention I didn't get my hot tea until almost 45 min into my meal and it was the first thing I ordered. Timing of meal, kitchen logistics, attention to and accuracy of orders all need a great deal of improvement. Onto the better...the food was good. The soup dumplings were perfectly molded and juicy. The pork belly was meaty fatty and tender just like I like it. Everything was tasty and flavorful full of crisp fresh ingredients. If it weren't for the service the rating would be much higher. I plan to visit again at a later date in hopes the kinks will be worked out. read more

Really cute ambiance! Food was okay- keeping in mind I am vegetarian this was very average food and for the price not really worth it. The unfortunate thing about this place is the very long wait if you dont have a reservation. I wouldn't bother coming on a weekend if you dont have a reservation bc it will take forever to get a seat. read more
Food was 3/5. Dumplings were okay. My broccoli and beef was great. Margarita was good, kinda sweet. Service was great! Loved out bartender. Ambiance is pretty. I'd come back. Wouldn't order the hot beef soup, it was 1/5 wouldn't recommend. read more

Amazing, authentic, fancy, Chinese on lower Greenville with great hospitality and ambiance! We stopped by for a late lunch on a random weekday and boy were we happy we did! The ambiance and decor is amazing. Fortune House really did a great job appointing this space and making it welcoming and nice. The food itself is outstanding. Don't go here if you are looking for watered down, non authentic Chinese. We had some amazing eats and all had legit heat / spice (the dishes that were suppose to). We had the salt and pepper shrimp, 2 orders of dumplings, the mapo tofu, and some cocktails. PLENTY of food for 2! We even had some leftovers. Highlights were EVERYTHING! Even the fried rice that came with the shrimp was super delicious. I personally love the pork soup dumplings we got as well as the pan fried shrimp dumplings. The coolest part about the experience was watching staff make the dumplings through the glass window by the bar! Can't get fresher than that! The cocktails were ok. I wasn't super impressed with my old fashioned but my dining partner liked their cocktail (the cool thing about the menu is they show you the glassware they get served in!). read more

Great service for a five person lunch. Dining room was clean and food came quick. I had the cashew chicken with some added spice. Very tasty and tender chicken. Also had the egg drop soup that had a wonderful Smokey taste to it. Expect about $20/person. read more

Review of Picked-up-to-go order: Honey Garlic Pork w/ steamed rice (tasteless) Ginger Beef w/ steamed rice (liked) General Tso's Chicken w/ steamed rice (too saucy) Shrimp & Pork Dumplings w/ steamed rice (not great) We ate the meal à la carte style. To be honest I developed a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine living in NYC. So far in Dallas it just has not been beat yet. I hate to say it but....I felt the food tasted too Americanized . In NYC I think we ate Chinese weekly, its just not a fair comparison. However, I had a couple of coworkers giving this place a rave review. I will definitely give it a second chance! Ginger Beef was my favorite of the selection with a nice kick of spiciness. It also was tender and juicy to the bite and tasted fresh. Not sure why, but the honey garlic pork just did not have any taste to it (I would almost say it could have been reheated or came off a buffet). Looked delicious but nothing! The Tso was overly sweet with a hint of some spicy pepper buried under the sweet sauce. Then finally...the dumpling had a ballon sort of taste to it. I could not taste the shrimp or pork in it. Could it be possible it was the wrong dumpling? Not sure. But what would it be? Maybe just beef? Not even sure why it had a prominent pink color... I wouldn't categorize no taste as awful....so a little lost for words...but I do not want to say bad. Haha. On anther note, it was in an amazing location and the place looked upscale and was vibing with a flow of guests. I would venture to grab some drinks here at the bar for sure. read more

I'm writing this based on take-out that we got from Fortune House, I can't speak to the ambiance or in-restaurant service. However, they were prompt with making our food and really friendly when picking up so I had no issues to report. I had the General Tsao Chicken and split the crab rangoon appetizer with my boyfriend. Overall, the food was good and everything was well packed so there was no spillage during transit. I really liked that the General Tsao seemed to be made with chicken breast rather than the fatter / chewier pieces of chicken that you sometimes get from cheap take out places. The only thing that could have been improved is adding a little more sauce to the chicken. I felt like there was just enough sauce to cover the chicken but not enough to really pour over the rice. read more

Super yummy food, especially the dumpling sampler. Cocktails were delicious!! The decor inside really transports you off of Greenville and into an upscale Chinese oasis service was a little slow but we were having a good time and didn't mind. Definitely will be coming back. After enjoying HH at Swizzle we stopped by to complete our triathlon. Walking in to get a table one of the hostesses never looked up but stayed on her phone the whole time. Many empty tables at 7:00pm but we where told they would sit us if we where done in an hour. We took on this challenge. We where sat in the back of a very loud room. Nadia our waitress was so busy but took great care of us. Drinks were not good espresso martini was gritty and MaiTai was sweet fruit juice, hot sake worked. We decided since 3 of us and less than an hour to do small shared plates. Tofu and edamame was a bowl of green edamame and shaved tofu, pretty dish but flavorless. Crab Rangoon where okay but nothing above and beyond, fried rice and shrimp lo mien had no flavor everything seemed bland , the real disappointment was the gummy chicken dumplings. We love dumplings and have had them coast to coast these where gummy dough, filling had no flavor. Best item we tried was the scallions pancakes. All the dipping sauces seemed to be out of the same bottle. Very disappointing. They have a dumpling viewing area and it seemed a lot of handling of dough made it very dense and chewy.
