Ive driven past this Foster Freeze for years and I finally stopped here. Its an Old School Burger Joint and its Family Owned. When I approached the Walk Up Window I noticed a Father and Son team working the Grill and the Counter . I ordered an Old Fashion 1/4 Pound Cheeseburger and a Peanut Butter Shake. I received my Burger and Shake 11 Mins Later . That was a Hearty Old School Burger and the Shake was Simply YUMMY. read more

First let me say.. I am all for the spirit of making something of yourself. Then there is the spirit of stabbing the customer in the back. This place is in the middle of the industrial district in San Leandro.. like the middle of freakin no where.. and so were my friends and I. So we decided.. hey.. lets go to Fosters.. that place that gives you the warm fuzzes with nostalgia about the 1950's and Poodle skirts. Then you end up in front of the order window face to face with a prominently displayed sign stating we are going to charge you $8 for a value meal.. and what? you didn't bring cash... So sorry.. an additional .45 cent fee on top of that. If that doesn't get your goat... how about the fact the owners.. are stingy with the condiments? I want some ketchup with my fries.. and when I say I want some.. that means more than 2 freaking packs of ketchup.. yeah I roll deep with the tomato and vinegar sauce. Seriously.. next time I will just gnaw on my arm when i get hungry in the middle of the industrial district of San Leandro.. or maybe I will just gnaw on a friend instead..they might taste better than the bad service and over priced food at Foster's Freeze. read more

I went to this place every weekend when i was a child with my dad and brothers. I remember i got a soda corn dog and onion rings They were very good. My dad bought their parfeits, I loved their parfeits. I hadn't been here in years so a few months ago i decided to try it again . The food was ok. But they were expensive. It feels like they've gone higher and higher. I purchased a parfeti i think it was oreo, a ice cream cone, a dr pepper, onion rings and a corn dog It came to like 15.00 which was a waste. The place looks stuck in time. I really hate to see this place fall but like the many people below. Where are the custamers Overall the service was good i would recommend this place for ice cream. My bf and I was planning to eat at this place, being that neither one of us haven't had FF in years. But man, can the 'value meal' prices get any higher? They were over 6, 7, and 8 dollars! We ended up going to Jack in the Box instead! If you want to pay for way overpriced 'value meals', then this is the place to go. So I really like the food-no Complaints about that but one day I drove up to get 2 twisters and the older man working was the only one there and took my order. I was shocked that the 2 items were $16!! Not even for the large size, so I questioned nicely as I am sure since pandemic, prices have risen or whatever his case may be but his reaction was SO RUDE and uncalled for and as much as I wanted those twisters (really bad), I couldn't give my money to that display of horrible customer service. I said, "No thanks because you're rude!" and left. No reason to treat a customers like that. I was refused service. I tried to get one of your promotions (12$ meal for 2) and I was told they couldn't make it because " every place is different" and "the website is different". I was also told that they closed at 5:30pm on a Saturday because it was a "holiday" but I went on February 15 at around 5:40pm. As far as I know, February 15 is not a holiday. On Google maps it says they close at 7pm. After that,the cashier took the order of someone behind me even though they just told me they were closing. Their ice cream and shakes are quite good, especially the fresh banana shake but the guy who works here (maybe the owner) is a total jerk. He charged me 50 cents extra for using a credit card without informing me first. When I complained about it he was rude and dismissive. Had I known there would be an extra charge for using my credit card, I would have paid cash. But, they guy is so poor at communicating that he does not deserve to be in business. I truly wish I sang this song while I waltzed away from this quaint diner, but hey, it wasn't up to par in many categories. Sure, it's clean, each food item is at the right temperature, and they have a drastically wide range of products to choose from. However, the 1.95 se7en inch burrito I ordered was basically an egg roll with ground beef and mashed beans wrapped in a brown, crispy tortillla shell. It seemed as if they microwaved it; hey, I don't know about you, but when I go outside, I don't expect anymore microwaved food than the crap I eat at home =-(. Next up to the plate is the 4.65 fried Fish Sandwich: this looks massive but is not actually that wondrous. The bread is just puffed up to larger-than-necessary size, giving it a baby phat sort of appearance... NOT that I like to eat babies, mind you! Between the buns are 2 fresh tomatoes, tartar sauce, light ranch dressing, and of course, who can forget lettuce? There's nothing special about this place, for the prices are even steeper than its franchised competitors (McD's, BK, Carl's Junior, Jack in the Crack). Even though they offer all sorts of drinks from coffee to soda pop to milk and some wacky waffle fries (along with its normal pals, french, curly fries, and onion rings), the food is nothing I've missed in my lifetime. Okay, so I previously said there was some sort of "special sauce" they put in the Double Decker (my favorite item on the menu) to make it tasty and I just asked. They put thousand island on it to make it tasty! Lol, so nothing special after all. But the speed in which the food comes out has improved. Maybe that's why the taste wasn't as flavorful as usual, but they can still make a decent burger. Their "staff" of rotating high school students is always changing as well, so maybe it would help to keep someone around long enough to know the technique to cook the food other than just the owners, who look exhausted all the time! :( Still, a solid three stars that hasn't changed. read more

woohoo! i love this place, i'm so glad they still have one around. though it does seem like it's in the middle of nowhere (business district) i'm glad it's right around the corner from both of my jobs. I eaten here a couple times, but recently i've come for the ice cream, which is amazingly good. The prices are good, and you get a lot for what you pay. The old Asian man is nice, and gets your order right away. I went there last week right before i started my second job, and ordered an ice cream cone, when the kid brought it to me, it was already melted and sliding off. i told him i can't take this, as i was driving plus it wasn't cold enough, so they kindly took it back asked me if i could wait a couple minutes while the machine got colder, then they handed my ice cream cone perfect. i was satisfied =] read more

Alright even though this place is out in the middle of no where and you basically need a treasure map to get there, the food was great. I got a Pastrami Burger (Oh my God yes!) and a Hot Fudge Malt Shake (OH YES YES YES!!!) It tasted so good and settled so well. The atmosphere was very retro but still looked clean (which I highly appreciate to no end). My only problem is that the chairs were extremely wiggly and one of my party members chairs squeaked evilly whenever they moved. I was absolutely nowhere nearby. But I'd already driven far out of my way and figured an extra half hour detour wouldn't matter after I polished off a vanilla ice cream chocolate dipped cone. I ordered at the patio window, danced in the breeze a bit, and picked up my cone after a few moments. We are so lucky to have a Fosters Freeze in San Leandro! I Love their dipped cones. I think they have the best soft serve around. The vanilla tastes like actual primo French vanilla ice cream, not just dust from a bag mix like McD's soft serve. The food is quality stuff. like the burgers& onion rings are grubbin. I feel their quality is worth paying a little more for. ( I always feel good after I eat here-- some fast food makes me feel kinda funky afterwards). I also really dig the nostalgia buzz I get from going here; guess from when I was taken to fosters as a kid... PS, this is one of the places OPEN DURING THE COVID SCARE THING!! Part of my definition of San Leandro Quality of life is having a Fosters nearby. I think it is family owned, not just a chain like Jack in the Box etc... Wow, I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. I had their double decker combo (two patties, 1/2 lb burger with bacon and cheese) with fries and a medium drink and the entire meal was great from start to finish. The smell of the char from the flat top grill made me go for the burger first and after my first bite, I thought "better than In n Out." I have been missing out this entire time. The bacon is as crispy without being burnt as can be and the lettuce and tomato taste fresh. Their fries are of a crinkle cut and its soft on the inside and is firm on the outside. Foster's is an old fashion burgers and shakes chain. I've been to a few different locations and they all look like an aged drive-in burger joint. They make the food when you order it. Everytime I've driven by this place it's always closed..or looks closed. Finally decided to take a chance when I saw they were open. I was craving some ice cream and was hoping for something to satisfy me. I ordered a small chocolate dipped vanilla cone and it was pretty good! Can't complain. Will never go to this place again. I work around the corner from this place and I drive by there almost every day. I've always wonder if they were a hidden secret that not too many people knew about. Turns out I was wrong, I ordered a double stacker burger combo without pickles and onions. When I got my burger I checked it out and it looked like a regular burger so I took a second closer look at it. Turns out the patties are pretty thin so they looked like one but there were two, and it had pickles. I paid $10.22 for it and it was not worth even half. Don't go to this place, not worth it. Not good tasting, small portion of fries, bad attitude from workers, and too pricey. If you are ever in the area and crave a burger with fries, go to GIANT BURGER ON DOOLITLE DR. When I was a kid my dad and i would drive through the backroads of Oakland/San Leandro to get to the old Montgomery Wards warehouse. and on the way home he would always stop and get my a frosty vanila cone...it was great......been to it a coupke of times in the past few years JUST for the ice cream (because honestly its to nasty inside to get anything to eat)...and cone is stale, almost soggy and they try to get you to dip the ice cream...mainly because its so greasy its nasty.
