    fried cod

Had a superb experience shopping here today. I appreciate the low light, quiet ambiance compared to my over stimulated weekly Trader Joe's runs. Their deli selection is top notch, but I went with two pieces of their fried cod to-go paired with homemade three ladies jasmine white rice and nuoc mam dipping sauce.

This Market Never fails me. I stopped by for a quick snack. I was so pleased with the Plantain Turo fried to perfection and very pleasing to my taste buds. I also enjoyed the Banana Leaf wrapped sticky rice with coconut. The texture is grainy but pleasing. Such a wonderful variety of fruits and vegetables also all different varieties of teas. Customer Service is Great. The store makes me feel welcome and it's so inviting and great to learn about the culture. I also bought the Ube sliced Bread and instantly fell in love. I will always stop by this market to buy these items and also explore all the wonderful options.

I want to give Fou Lee more stars, but we got overcharged on our visit, I made a huge mistake of not grabbing a receipt, and had to dispute the charge with our credit card company. It was resolved, and we got our money back, but I tried calling Fou Lee to resolve the overcharge before calling my CC company, and they said they couldn't help me, unless I had a receipt. So don't forget to grab your receipt here! (We spent about $50, and were overcharged $200+) Onto our experience minus the overcharge situation. I love mom pop small Asian markets and was very excited to stop by here. We got a bunch of the take out food for dinner and it was decent. We got: - banh mi - adobo - pancit - egg rolls The Banh Mi was dirt cheap, I think it was under $5, i can't remember. the pancit and adobo were tasty. The egg rolls had been sitting out for a while, so those were a bit stale. They had a lot going on in this market and a lot of stuff! Again, because of our bad experience with the CC charge, I am not sure I will be back, or I will be paying with cash next time.

This place is a little Filipino grocery store run but Vietnamese people. It has all kinds of things from fruit and vegetables, lots of snacks, different dry pantry items like Asian noodles, garlic corn nuts, different sauces. I always go to the fried section and get a few things. This time I got side of pork-2 pieces, 1/2 lb of the little fish which were very crunchy, and 1/2 lb of squid head-it tastes good but some of them were very hard. The service is always very nice.

I've been going to Fou Lee Market in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood for a long time predating my Yelp days. This is a long overdue review. Fou Lee Market is one of those indie Asian markets not in the CID, has a non descript exterior, crazy busy parking lot (I prefer street parking), but inside is a combo of grocery store - produce stand - butcher/fish monger - sari sari store - baked goods - and deli area. It's one of those Filipino centric shops IYKYK without having to make the further trek to Seafood City in Tukwila. Major draw is the deli area for getting generous lunch combos, all those tasty fried goods, and Filipino delicacies (assorted pulutan). Recommended are the variety of hot entrees available, served with steamed rice, fried rice, or pancit noodles. There's also fried fish like dilis, bangus, pompano, and mackerel. Pork lechon, crispy pata, chicken skin, chicken wings, but my favorites are picking up grilled BBQ pork on a stick, karioka on a stick, puto or bibingka. I had avoided visiting during the pandemic because it was not enforced about masks and social distancing. It was literally a free for all with some of the older folks practically mowing you down with their cart. I recently stopped by to pick up some Mochiko sweet rice flour, pancit canton noodles, and half a dozen meat sticks on 3/25/22 and it was thankfully not overly crowded. Deli counter and cashier staff still wore masks. I still shopped with a mask on since the store has rather cramped, narrow aisles, and wouldn't place any faith on proper HEPA air circulation. Well worn, well stocked. Decent stop if in the neighborhood.

An Asian market that is predominantly Filipino? Count me in. Their parking is awkward and small. No doubt there is a large variety of food packed into these slightly cramped aisles. Regarding prices, there is a mix of cheap and overpriced goods. The layout is weird inside with only two registers. I was really interested in their hot food section. Lots of expected fried items: chicken, fish, chicharron, etc. I was pretty disappointed with the fried squid, but the BBQ pork skewers are pretty lean and the way to go. Skip the steamed buns. The rest of the hot food looked a bit basic and bland. I may not come back for this section, but at least for some cheap groceries if I lived closer.

Not what I thought it would be. Good selection of groceries but their deli section was just ok. Nothing to write home about.

Ask the Community - Fou Lee Market

Has anyone tried the lechon / litson / full pig roast? I'm thinking of buying one, but $260 is a lot of money.

Just had it last night - way better than ordering from Seafood City. Not too much fat and they make the skin really crispy - like popping crispy. Also the meat was most. I'm not a big fan of regular lechon (more into lechon kawali), but their lechon…

    Do they have ube bread?

They do have Ube pastries and little buns with ube swirl and of course other stuff like Ube putting and ice cream

The options at this grocery store is overwhelming but it's kind of a treat also. There is lots of merchandise that you can't get at any run of the mill grocery store. This grocery store is mainly tuned into Asian shoppers and so you get a lot of merchandise that you don't see in just any everyday place. I heard coming here you can get all kinds of different flavors of Kit Kats and indeed I did find a lot of different ones. I purchased a flavor though that I haven't tried before which made it fun. It was a dark chocolate Kit Kat. But what I unexpectedly found was different Pocky flavors also. The sweet tasting pretzel stick I have had plenty of times with chocolate and strawberry flavors but I found one with fruit (mango) chunks that was a part of the flavor. It was good! Perhaps not my favorite but I'm glad I got to try something new! In addition to that there is something similar to Pocky called Pretz. This is a more savory version of Pocky. I found a toasted sugar flavor which I never came across before and that was good too! So it definitely was a hit coming back again. In addition to the grocery store itself at this location there is a connecting bookstore and a food court. So you could definitely spend a considerable amount of time here! I enjoy the bookstore but haven't tried the food court so that will be yet another visit for another time.

Parking is usually very tough so plan accordingly - fresh food, hot food, well stocked. They do seasonal items too which I really like. - they've started hosting small food truck events. You can get grocery items too. - minimal frozen section CONS: - they've increased the prices on everything without any increase in portion! Since the children took over, they've hiked up prices twice within a year for, what I've learned from folks, due to "wanting more profit margin." These people are greedy and charging restaurant rates for grocery story sushi and food which is despicable and makes zero sense. - the new owners did an Asian food trucks event inside their already tiny parking lot. I feel like they are doing everything hoping something sticks. Why crowd such a small parking lot? I went to check them out but the prices were atrocious so i left. The simple mom and shop vibe is now gone thanks to these nonsense price increases that are just for profit. I hope the old owners return so we can get the mom and pop shop feel back and friendlier prices. Maruta Shoten has lost its identity and I cannot call them affordable or a mom and pop shop anymore. I'm very disappointed and hope common sense comes back to these managers and they go back to what the prices were.

Lulu took over two spaces - Golden Hong (a tiny market) and a noodle shop that has vacated long time ago. (This is the same location as the old China Gate restaurant, so the façade is ornate.) The combined space makes for a more comfortable shopping space, bigger than the nearby (and old) Dong Sing Market, smaller than farther Dong Hing Market (with a parking lot). All this matters because many elderly locals can only walk to buy groceries. Having more grocery options is pertinent to serving this dense and elderly community. I am excited for the locals, and I hope Lulu can keep the prices low (like Golden Hong was). While Lulu is currently open, it is still work in progress with several cases in place but empty. Having the business open is important for the community (and their own bottom-line), so they have been partially opened for a while now. The outside (as of this writing) still has the signs of the previous businesses. The only Lulu sign is a screen at the window. The interior is brightly lit. The produce areas are particularly abundant and well-stocked, perfect for their clientele. The freezer inventory is much larger than Golden Hong. Good for stocking up a bit during the cold season and shop less often. They have a modest though sufficient amount of non-perishable, shelf-stable goods and also a selection of small item household goods such as gloves, sponges, etc. This market is sized and stocked for the immediate community. I thought the produce area is excellent. When I was there yesterday (on a Sunday), not one but two ladies were busy sorting through the boxes of produce before putting them on shelves. Nice! I will return even if just for produce. Credit card purchases require a minimum of $10.

Perfect timing if you want to beat the rush and take a look around before it fills up. The restaurant is located in Beacon Hill, right next to the Beacon Hill light rail station, which is super convenient if you're coming from downtown or the airport. No dedicated parking lot, so you're looking at street parking. The setup is counter service. You order and pay up front, then find a seat, and they bring the food out to you. It's a nice hybrid of quick-service convenience with the personal touch of table delivery. Just remember to bus your own table when you're done. They've also got a station set up for washing your hands and mixing your own dipping sauce, which I thought was a really thoughtful touch (if you grew up with Filipino food, you know). I went heavy on the sinamak (spiced vinegar). Seating is flexible. Counter seats if you're solo or just grabbing something quick, and regular tables that can accommodate four or more if you've got a bigger group. We ordered the bangus-silog, island combo, and cassava cake. Bangus-silog:Came with garlic rice, two eggs, and milkfish, and it hit exactly the way silog should. Yolks were slightly runny, rice had that good garlicky flavor, and the bangus was perfectly fried with head and tail. Island combo: Came with two lumpia, two inihaw ribs, pancit, white rice, two longanisa, and two butterfly shrimp. Great way to sample a bunch of things in one go if you can't decide. The lumpia was crispy and had a good amount of filling. The ribs were tender and had a nice char. The pancit had good noodle texture, and the longanisa had that slightly sweet, garlicky flavor you want. Nothing special about the butterfly shrimp. Also don't skip the baked goods section near the register. It's definitely worth a look on your way out. We tried a slice of cassava cake for dessert. Dense and not overly sweet. Good way to end the meal. Staff at the register were friendly and patient the whole time. They answered any questions about the menu. Overall, a solid and casual spot for Filipino comfort food. Will definitely be back. Kain tayo!
