We were at Barnes and Nobel across the street about a month ago or so, and the Google suggested the Foxhole, so we checked it out. I expected pub food. Not so much. It was a little on the pricey side for lunch, but the food was good. I liked it. I got the seared Ahi. It was good. It was different. But it was good. Most places I go, they slice it and sear it and serve it. Or sear it and slice it and serve it. Here, they seared it and plopped it on a plate and you sliced it as you ate. It was interesting. Flavors were good though. Again, a little on the pricier side for lunch, definitely not pub food which is what I expected, and my son wasn't thrilled with the macaroni. My family and I went to the Foxhole expecting a lot, shame on us. It took over an hour to receive our order, just was awful. Especially after we asked for three times. They tried to make it "better" by comping part of our meal, $40 on a $200 dollar tab. The GM came and griped at us about other customers that wrote bad yelp reviews, which in my opinion is just sad. Don't go to Foxhole and try other places that value customers and customer service. Go somewhere that values their customers. read more

This is a great place for happy hour! Love the Bearcat cocktail. So refreshing on a hot summer day. I have to say I was pretty disappointed they no longer serve the sloppy joe's. They were so good! Please bring them back!!!!! Also had the onion rings. They changed those up too. I prefer the smaller size with more rings instead of the oversized ones when they only give you four. They are good but really hard to eat when they are so thick. read more

Foxhole knocked everything out of the park today. I'm so happy with how everything went that I wrote this review literally as soon as I got home. I stopped in this morning to ask if they'd hold on to my large bouquet until my later reservation, and a super friendly hostess offered to keep it in the cooler--she was totally calm and courteous despite being inundated by large groups arriving for Mother's Day brunch. When my party of six arrived at 12:30 we were seated on the patio where tables were comfortably spaced out with plenty of room between them, and we had a perfect view of the jazz ensemble playing live music. Our waitress, Jessica, took such good care of us, and she didn't even flinch when my dad stood up and accidentally knocked over the full cup of coffee she was trying to set down. I couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere, service, or food as I celebrated my mom today. read more

I attended with a group of 15 on a Saturday at lunch time. The restaurant was fairly empty, and we had a separate room to ourselves. When I arrived, I told the hostess I was with this group, and she told me to walk around behind the stone pillar and I'd find them. I had never met with this group before nor had I been to Foxhole Culinary Tavern. There was no one else around, so I was surprised that the hostess didn't take the time to show me to the area. The waitress who attended our table was fabulous. We were charged a mandatory 20% tip for a large group, but I added an additional 20% because she was so helpful for my dietary needs. She gave me no trouble at all about needing gluten free, dairy free food. I appreciated her kindness. Unfortunately, the kitchen staff must not have understood though she definitely talked to them about it. I eat out often and almost never have a problem with gluten issues. Before I even left Foxhole, though, I was going into a gluten reaction. My dish didn't have obvious gluten in it, but I'm not sure if the potatoes were fried in oil also used to fry gluten products or what happened. Regardless, I was sick from cross-contamination. I don't recommend this restaurant for anyone who has any level of gluten sensitivity but definitely not for someone with celiac disease. On top of that, the scramble/hash I had was only mediocre at best. It really needed some herbal seasoning to it. There was no pepper or salt on the table, either, for me to even add those basic spices to it. Most people at the table ordered the bacon belgian waffles and loved them. read more

Well opening nite. Not too crowded. Got seats at the bar. Great selection of beers and wines along with cocktails. Happy hour 4 to 7pm. Ordered lobster bisque. First taste great. Then just fell flat. There is some spice that overwhelms. Too bad no bourbon or some kind of liquour that works really well with lobster bisque. Ordered ribeye taco. Great as an appetizer for one. My wife and I usually try new restaurants during their slow hours and this was the case with Foxhole Culinary Tavern. We arrived to a nice greeting from the host at the door, but that is where the good experience ended. Our waitress was short with us and hastily took our order. The food arrived quickly but we expected much more from a restaurant with culinary in its name. It was presented well, but it was flavorless and unexciting. The Lobster Bisque had NO lobster at all. Frankly, we have had better at Red Lobster. The Pork Belly Tacos were extremely fatty and the meat was flavorless. The Meat Flatbread was burned on the bottom. The Boracho Beans were cold and flavorless. All together, the worst dining experience we have had in Austin. read more

What a fabulous farm to table menu! Everything we had was delicious especially the crispy brussel sprouts. We managed to save some room for dessert and had the homemade s'mores with ginger snaps and chocolate sauce, wonderful! Live music entertainer was a great added bonus! read more

I was excited to try something new. Aside from Cover 2, North Austin/Cedar Park area needs more local restaurants. I've been there twice (I will almost always give a business 2 chances) Basically, here is the low down. 1. Great Atmosphere, beautiful inside....and outside! 2. Service was also great! The servers were attentive (although very busy..."slammed" on a Friday night, go figure) 3.Expensive for the Cedar Park area. $25+ for an entree is expensive. It's almost like I'm in downtown Austin. 3. The Small plates are enough for a full meal. The plates are NOT small. 4. Pretty good Happy Hour deals (3p-7p). 5. Food is Ehh....ok. I think Cover 2 is better, but all in all not horrible. Both times the food needed salt. Very under seasoned (I'm not a salt eater...I Never add it). Although the Brussels Sprouts are excellent. 6. NO VEGETARIAN/VEGAN option. My daughter, being a Vegan usually finds a vegetarian dish on the menu, asks them to leave off the butter or cheese and it's fine. Yes, I know Vegan options are s usually difficult to find, but we almost always find something. But the Foxhole doesn't even offer a Vegetarian plate....who doesn't have a Vegetarian plate these days?....Especially in Austin?! We asked our waiter what she could have, and he told us that she could have the Hummus for dinner....LOL. We told him that she wanted something hot. He genuinely tried to help us, but the menu was very limiting when it came to vegetarian options. When a restaurant charges this much, usually the "Chef" will have no problem making something for a special diet. It wasn't offered, but when I asked if the kitchen could just saute veggies in olive oil with salt and pepper, he did accommodate us...and eventually brought us two sides of veggies for $5 each. (We then went home and she ate dinner there). Just went here for our lunch hour. We ordered shrimp bisque, catfish tacos, ribeye tacos, onion rings and sloppy joes. Mainly from their social hour menu. For the price, you get what you order. The waiter Preston was super nice and understood we only had an hour. We asked for our checks ahead to be sure. The food was top notch for a happy hour menu. Last time we went there (in July) the waiter messed up putting in our order, so our food was delayed by almost an hour. Annoying, but accidents happen, I understand. The waiter was very apologetic and nice. However the manager was so rude that I am not sure I'll be back. She declined to even stop by to apologize until we had finally finished our meal. When she finally found it convenient to stop by she just ranted at us about how hard her job was and complained about our waiter and all waiters in general. She did not apologize or offer to try to make it up to us, but just took our her frustrations on us. Highly unprofessional and an unpleasant end to our evening. We had a lot of good meals there prior to that night (and the Brussels sprouts are amazing) but that whole experience has made me reluctant to go back. read more

I hate to leave this review but our waiter probably will not see it because he sure didn't see us today. My wife and I have been coming to the Fox Hole for the last 2 years for special occasions and date nights. My wife and daughter made reservations for Father's Day at 1:00pm to miss the crowd. We were greeted and seated immediately. This is when it got ridiculous. We sat on the bar side at a table. Our waiter "D" came and took our drink order and we ordered at the same time. We had cheddar biscuits and gravy, lobster omelette, jerk chicken sandwich, and a hangover hamburger. The biscuits came 15 minutes later and still no tea. Our waiter "D" came and took the biscuit plates and walked away. The entrées were served another 15 minutes later and we asked for our tea. The tea was brought to us right as we were finishing our lunch. We waited 20 minutes for the ticket. Please keep in mind that the restaurant was less than 50% full and other waiters were tending to their tables in the very efficient manner. I thought that you deserved to know what transpired and not just be another customer that goes away without letting you know. read more

kind of torn about how many stars to give this one. we went for brunch right when they opened and it seemed like an unorganized after thought. they were still setting things up and boxes were just hanging out at the buffet. there is no menu for brunch so we just sat until our waitress came over and told us it was buffet and there were some things from kitchen made to order. the server next to us told a woman who wanted non buffet that there is only the buffet. we told the customer after the server left she could indeed order from kitchen. servers were slow, uninformed and not helpful. food was great. seasoning was perfect and there were little hints of surprise fresh flavors in each dish. I'm not the biggest fan of buffet for brunch, so we mainly ordered from kitchen. the salmon eggs benedict was so good i ordered a second plate of it. ill have to try their dinner and see if the servers can pull it together a little better. but as for now i give the service 1 star and food 5. not a great combo. and someone needs to organize the liquor bottles at the top of the bar. they look horrible :) read more

So the replacement order made me sick I guess (was kind of underdone...usually I can handle some rare lamb).. Annnd appetizer spinach artichoke thing was good but again chips were too spicy. Wife got the Lunch Box Cubano with the Tavern salad. Salad was pretty good overall, but had some mealy tomatoes in it. Yuck. The Cubano was good. I got the Texas Rock Shrimp. Went last night and ordered the wedge salad. Worst presentation ever... first off, a wedge salad is a cold wedge of iceberg lettuce, not room temp romaine just thrown on a plate with the other ingredients thrown on top. I had leaves of romaine on the plate with my warm chicken on top so the whole salad was warm. I asked the waiter when wedge salads became romaine and his response was that "we are a 'culinary tavern' so we take liberty to change items that are not typically found in recipes. And that's not romaine, it's Bibb lettuce.". Ummm...Ok I get and appreciate that, but when you change the one ingredient that makes a wedge different from any other salad then you should at least not call it a wedge. Just call it a freaking salad and be done. It was NOT Bibb. I've eaten Bibb before. And I eat a large Romaine salad every day. I know what Romaine is. The chicken that was on the salad was amazing, however. I just wish it hadn't been put on top of my already room temp salad so that I had a warm salad. We've eaten here 7-8 times and it's a 50/50 chance we are impressed so I guess we're done with this place. read more
