My friend & I decided to try this place after having it bookmarked for so long and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant is located in Russian Hill (great location but parking can be quite difficult to find). I'd recommend leaving ~15-20 minutes earlier to account for parking unless you get lucky! There's 2 levels you can choose to sit at when you arrive (bottom is right in front of the kitchen and top overlooks the kitchen). The 2 level is pretty secluded which is great if you want a quiet place to chat. It can get quite hot upstairs though so that was the only con. The food was delicious and super flavorful. Things ordered: - russet potato gnocchi (4/5, great texture and the truffle gives it a nice hint) - pan seared filet mignon (4/5, love the portion size and it was perfectly seared. I'd prob like to have more veggies it with it) Overall, I'd recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for a nice restaurant in SF that won't break the bank (super affordable prices)! read more

What a gem! Frascati is a San Francisco institution at this point. Rebecca and Jon have always been nothing but kind and warm. Seeing them truly amplifies the experience. The service here is outstanding and very comforting. The food is simply delicious. No matter the dish, you'll leave full and satisfied. Top 3 restaurant in SF easily! Friendliest staff and tastiest food. The ambiance is the perfect balance of romantic, classy, and homey. A great spot for a special occasion dinner or just a good night out. My boyfriend and I loved the upstairs seating. The service is amazing. The host (owner) was incredible! So caring and accomedating. The atmosphere was on point too. However the food... Well, it was a big disappointment. I ordered the prawns, those tasted of ammonia. I took one bite and i had to wash my mouth from the foul taste. I returned those immediately. Kids ordered pasta, it was freshly made, but the main taste was of uncooked flour. The steak was bland to my taste , but the kids loved it. The duck confit had a lot of un-rendered fat (could use more time cooking) , and the risotto was under seasoned and had the wrong texture. The cheese platter was disappointing, And the bread pudding was too sweet for us to finish. The only dish we enjoyed was the fig salad. For the service and atmosphere, I give all the stars. We tried the Burata with prosciutto, it's only two thick pieces of bread with tiny pieces of ham and a bit of cheese on top. Not even tasty. The octopus salad is decent but nothing amazing. The salmon is fine. The duck risotto it's not what you would expect. It is a basic, not flavorful risotto with a piece of duck on the side. Are we not returning? The food! I had the pork chop as I frequently do and this time so did my colleague, who typically does not and we both thoroughly agreed that it was a 10/10! We also enjoyed their appetizers and salads ahead of our main courses very much! The to top it all off, they have house made gelato! The only thing is they have many flavors of the gelato but only serve a select few by the scoop. All other flavors are only available by the pint, which was a bit of a let down as of course the flavors I wanted were not available by the scoop. However the flavors I did end up with, Chocolate and Hazelnut were VERY GOOD. The service was great and although I'm not sure if she was the manager, the owner or both, she was excellent. She was very personable and came by our table a few times throughout our meal to check in and make sure everything was enjoyable. On top this our waiter was very knowledgeable and recommended a great bottle of wine to accompany our pork chops. You cannot beat the ambiance of the restaurant either. A small shotgun style restaurant with the open kitchen on the right and seating to the left and a small loft with a few more tables in the back of the restaurant. I always take neighborhood walks to Lombard St in Russian Hill & was attracted to the happy faces dining here. So happy we finally tried them on the corner of Green & Hyde. Iconic to SF the street car also makes its rounds w the new SF visitors. In all of my travels around the world and in Michelin rated restaurants, Frascati has the best desserts I've ever had and I'm not actually a dessert person. I'm so impressed with the owners and especially the beautiful women who makes the desserts and checks on the table that my mind is blown. I'd come back just to eat dessert and I never say this! Went for Valentine's Day so some of these options aren't on the regular menu. The food was delicious, flavorful & comforting. The lobster fra diavolo was my favorite & actually, it was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. One of the owners Rebecca was so sweet & personable. I have ate here on and off over the years. It's always a five star experience. The staff was excellent and we got a stellar table on second floor with view of dinning room and kitchen. But the food is what makes it. Had a house made flat noodle fettuccine with meat sauce. It was soft, light and cooked perfect! Clearly house made. Sauce perfectly balanced - great flavor yet not to rich. Crab dip appetizer wasn't overly rich and plenty for our bread. Warm apple cobbler was plenty to share- warm and delicious with good vanilla ice cream on top. Eat here - I can't see you being disappointed. It's a great date spot too! read more

I picked this place for my 1,000 Yelp review - AND my 2nd anniversary dinner celebration. While the current Yelp rating is a 4.5, if I had read the reviews more closely I might not have chosen this place. It has been around for ages (and the clientele surrounding us were all in there 70's (if I am being kind and low-balling it) - so that was sort of a red flag. The service was fine, the food was just either bland, or in the case of the short rib way too salty, I make a much better short rib at home. I did love the bread, and the bread pudding dessert. Also the bread salad (I guess we have a theme? - BREAD!) Since we shared everything (plus a bottle of wine) - it was only $133, which for an anniversary dinner is on the low side. That crispy chicken skin is a work of art, seriously though, if I could get extra skin on my roasted chicken from here I would. Had the cauliflower bisque which was the perfect consistency and flavor was subtle but not too subtle, great way to start the meal. Then went with the roasted half chicken and wow, just wow that might be the best chicken I've ever had. It was due to the crispy skin, it was rubbed in garlic and herbs and just couldn't have been better. I really wish I could have gotten extra skin, the chicken itself was perfectly cooked but it was the skin that took it over the top. The veg and potatoes that come with it are also perfectly cooked, the new potatoes have a crispy side (flat side) which is exactly how I like it. Also it felt somewhat healthy so really glad I got thIs, so tasty and yet most likely healthy as well. We came here on our first date and recently our 10 year wedding anniversary. The food and service is outstanding. We have been here on other occasions and it's always fabulous. They gave us the option to be seated upstairs so that's what we did since we had our 2 yo with us and we thought he'd be less of a distraction up there. The staff was amazingly nice and served our little guy just as if he were an adult. We always get their duck dish on every visit as do our friends and family on their visits. We shared a Grilled Octopus Salad to start which was fantastic. We also shared some cheese. The fish entree was delicious. As it turns out, Gayle and I brought our UK friends here for dinner 4 years ago and had a great meal and experience. That had not occurred to me until Gayle was on Open Table and suggested Frascati for my birthday dinner. I remembered the place immediately and was enthusiastic about wanting to return. We walked here from the Hilton Union Square, which is a significant hike up Leavenworth (or Hyde) and down. The walk back was easier and more satisfying as it helped work off what turned out to be a most excellent dinner. My only quibble is that we missed one of the 2 window tables by a matter of seconds, but the one next to it (with good natural light) was just fine. We both enjoyed the fact that the acoustics allowed for pleasant conversation, without the volume of some modern restaurants, and hearing the details of other conversations whether we wanted to listen or not. We both shared a cheese plate as a appetizer, a dish that you could linger over and also have the option of ordering for dessert. We both ordered halibut, which included accents of cauliflower, mussels, and couscous. That paired up nicely with a crisp bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Our dessert included coffee and a shared piece of a Bailey's themed cheese cake (with a candle of course). Our service was prompt, friendly, and otherwise excellent. We also had a nice conversation with one of the owners on our way out. Frascati is a place we'd gladly return to and hope that someday a place like this finds it's way to our neck of the woods. read more

While looking up reviews for a place to have my boyfriend's birthday dinner, I stumbled upon Frascati. I made a reservation on OpenTable and left a request to have a window seat by the front of the restaurant. Before leaving Vancouver for our trip to San Francisco, I called to confirm our reservation and seating arrangements and the man who picked up the phone seemed almost....annoyed. I was thrown off as I had asked nicely. I explained how I want this night to be special for my boyfriend and he mentioned that the restaurant would offer us a complimentary dessert for his special day. I've worked in the restaurant industry and understand that some nights may be tough so maybe he just having an off day. I feel like he was saying whatever he thought would satisfy me to end the conversation faster. Fast forward a couple days, we arrive at the restaurant for our reservation at 7pm. I immediately noticed that the table I requested was dirty. We were guided into an isolated dining room upstairs. I didn't see a single customer under the age of 40, the clientele seems to be older folks who have probably stayed loyal to Frascati for years. And also, I booked our reservation for a Sunday and it was extremely dead in that restaurant, very few people were there. At this point, I was already mad at myself for choosing this restaurant but tried to make the best of it. On the bright side, our server was delightful. He was a younger gentleman who checked on us often and made drink recommendations to pair with our dishes. We ordered steak tartare and smoked salmon bruschetta to start and fresh linguine and fresh fettuccine for our mains and a few glasses of wine. We finished our food and were presented with the bill without the complimentary dessert the gentleman on the phone had offered. Food: 5/10 (the food wasn't enjoyable for me, just edible) Service: 5/10 (only because we had an awesome server) Ambience: 5/10 Would I come back again? No, certainly not. It's impossible to not fall a little in love with Frascati. I felt my heart flutter as soon as I walked into this dimly lit two-story Mediterranean bistro. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees with the full intent of not finishing. However, we had an extremely difficult time controlling ourselves and almost licked our plates clean. - Smoked Salmon Bruschetta was the right amount of tangy, with a great silky texture on the salmon - You have to get the Octopus Salad. I've had my fair share of octopuses, and this one is quite different! The tenderly grilled octopus combined with a chorizo vinaigrette was to die for! - Oh boy were the Grilled Pork Chops TENDER! They were coated in a slightly sweet yet smoky sauce that improved the texture and taste of the meat - That buttered Pan Seared Bluenose Bass was just a little flaky and juicy and melted in my mouth. It was also paired beautifully with some cous cous and cauliflower - Out of all the indulgences, the Warm Black & White Chocolate Bread Pudding 100% stole the show. The flavors and combination of hot and cold from the moist bread pudding and hazelnut ice cream are indescribable. You just have to try it yourself Above all, I loved how Frascati felt warm, authentic, and without any pretension. If you're lucky, you may be able to snag a window seat to stare out at beautiful views of Russian Hill while enjoying a terrific meal. Best Italian I've had! We came 15 minutes early to our 8:15pm reservation and were promptly seated upstairs in a quiet corner with a view of the diners and kitchen below. It was a charming experience. Wait staff was all very nice and the pastas we ordered were deliciously made: not heavy and very flavorful yet not overpowering. I ordered the lobster and he ordered the bolognase fettuccini, which he enjoyed. For appetizer we got the crab dip, which worked out wonderfully because it was a cold night out. Fabulous San Francisco old world service dining experience. The food and romantic low light ambiance was nothing short of perfection . This little gem in the middle of Russian Hill has it all,including the clanging cable cars that run right by and beautiful 100 year old trees perched just outside their window. Being I live in the North Bay, this is exactly the kind of dining experience I want to have when visiting my favorite city . The owners greeted my friend and I very warmly, appreciative and graceful and even told us about their desserts which they make themselves . Oh and the wine list is spectacular . Returned after a few years with a friend with mobility challenges. Oh boy, the food is still great. Shared a redesigned - panzanella salad- based on seasonal vegetables and absent the usual traditional tomatoes which are out of season. Wow delicious! Just got home from dinner at Frascati and I had to write a review right away so I didn't forget. Started off with the gnocchi appetizer and strawberry salad, both were absolutely delicious. My husband had the fettuccine and I had the linguine, I thought my linguine was better but he really enjoyed his dish as well. The linguine had so much flavor and a little kick from the Calabrian chilies. Fresh pasta really does make such a difference. Dessert, we love a chocolate dessert with ice-cream so had to get the black and white chocolate pudding. We're not bread pudding people but were pleasantly surprised by the dish.
