I am so happy to find this breakfast place. It is not far away from the Hudson yard Vessel, and it is excellent. The place is busy, so we waited in line for some time. The service here is fast ( in and out). The restaurant has an inside and outside area. My husband and I were spotted the outside area; we decided not to wait for the inside. The menu is simple eggs, pancakes. I decided to try shakshuka; I am always in search of a good one. This one was decent; the egg yolk was runny, it lacks veggies on the bottom to develop a nice flavor and some spice, but I asked for a spicy sauce, which made the dish better. Sunday breakfast in the City! Part 2 of the birthday weekend celebration. We came across this restaurant via a google search. We didn't want to venture out too far from our hotel since we were checking out at noon. We arrived around 10:30am and we were lucky because upon leaving, there was a long line of customers waiting for a table. Anyway, back to the review. Maybe I came on a bad day but Friedman's was always one of my go to spots for brunch but I think since post COVID, the quality of food has changed. The breakfast dish I always ordered there was and omelette. Before, when I ordered this dish, the dish always came with a really good cream cheese / butter that had blueberry in it but this time I just got butter in a package, which was highly disappointing to me. The bread was slightly burned in my opinion. The hashbrowns or mashed potatoes that the side came with was lumpy and burned on top. I wasn't expecting mashed potatoes to have large chunks of potatoes. It was a pretty uneven texture. The omelette was fine but the avocado on top had a little bit of browning and aging. We wanted to try out this place do we did. Our wait to be seated was short since i arrive right before the crowd. However, the food took a long time. It was bearable for adults but totally not for kids. The server was so nice; he gave us a piece of bread with cream cheese for the kids. The space is a bit tight, but they do have high chairs for kids. The food we ordered was pretty good. We ordered mushroom toast, avocado toast, nova benny and blueberry pancakes. However the herbed fries looked like normal fries and were $8 so did think that was overpriced and frankly mundane. At the time of my order, their delivery interface was mandating ordering a drink with main dishes like the chicken sandwich (no option to add to cart without also adding a coke for $3), hence my lower delivery experience score. I imagine it was likely due to some errant optionality settings. My friend ordered the Nova Benny, which is smoked salmon, poached eggs, kale all put on top of a huge potatoe latke. Salmon was fresh, eggs were running, and most importantly the latke was fried crispy and crunchy. Decent meal, and we were both satisfied. A group of five of us were seated right away on a Sunday morning! A waitress greeted us just seconds after we were seated and brought us all the coffee and tea we needed. Plus sides of milk and almond milk. For my breakfast I chose the avocado toast on wheat bread with a side of hot sauce. The toast was topped with smashed avocado and two perfectly cooked poached eggs. They also added a side of grilled lemon, which tasted great squeezed over the toast. So here goes... I visited the new location on 10th and 35th on 1/9/21. The day was frigid. I had a meet up with a friend I couldn't get out of and that's the ONLY reason I suffered through the cold. Pros: 1. The food was decent. I ordered the chicken and waffles. 2. If it rained your head will remain dry. There overhead cover. Cons: 1. It's LITERALLY outdoor seating with practically no protection from the cold if you dining during a COVID WINTER. The brutal wind turned my hot tea into ice tea in minutes and my warm meal into a cold one... I couldn't really enjoy it. 2. The outdoor heater was barely warm. You could touch it directly with your bare hands and keep it there forever and you won't get burned. Service was subpar but I understand. They had one server and it was cold. I might have been subpar that day if I was in his shoe also. Based on other reviews, this place provides good service. Maybe I happened to go on a bad day. Not sure I'll return but I wish them luck and pray they do better with their outdoor seating set up. If you decide to go during winter make sure to dress warm.
