Solid spot to grab drinks and food w friends / family! Got two beer towers, sake, and everyone got their own dishes. Service was quick and space was spacious. I really loved the modanyaki - noodles crisped up nicely and unagi was very yummy. Salmon ikura bowl tasted very fresh and had so much ikura. I'd definitely come back to try more of the dishes!
Placed an order for takeout pretty close to when the had opened for the day. Server was kind and informative. Offered me a drink while I waited for my food to be ready. As it got a bit closer to lunch time the lunch crowd started to show up. Restaurant has a kind of modern vibe and seems like it'd get really busy. My food was ready in about 20 min and packaged nicely so it'd survive the trip home. Cooked really well and super tasty. Will likely be back!
My SO loves Fugetsu and suggests it ad a choice frequently. I realized that everytime I have come by, most of their food had been sold. Today was the first time I saw all the food was stocked up and I had so many options. Their food is a good deal for most of them and I was perusing until I selected the Saba Shio Bento. The fish, croquette and karage are pretty delicious and the price is decent. They also have an extensive amount of gifts and cute items to get ~
This place has really good okonomiyaki! The flavors and taste of the Negi Tsukimi pork was really well done. It was also cool to see the many other options for okonomiyaki that they offered. Their menu was quite extensive besides just okonomiyaki as well, with a range of Japanese cuisines. The service is quick despite the disclaimer that okonomiyaki could take 20-30 mins, probably just depends how busy it is! The vibe was also pretty cool with the interior design and they had plenty of space for different party sizes. Note: the only slightly inconvenient part of this place was just finding it. It's inside or apart of the Rokko restaurant which you can see on the street in the sign in the building. But if you find that then you have also found Fugetsu.
I got takeout so I can't speak on the vibes in the restaurant. We placed the order over the phone and it was ready in 15 mins. It was a quick in and out to pick up and pay for the food. We got the Pork Okonomiyaki with the noodles. I think the food was pretty good, the noodles could have been better. They were really hard and not chewy but the flavor was there. The okonomiyaki was really good, super saucy (which we like). The two of us shared 1 okonomiyaki and it was a perfect portion. They even cut it in half which was great. We took it to a local park to eat and it was still very hot and very delicious. I would definitely come back and try their other flavors but maybe not get the noodles again.
Food - 5/5 Their yaki onigiri was really good with right balance of crispness on the outside with rice and ume on the inside. I love that they give the pickle cucumber as side which I have not seen any other restaurants provide. Their miso soup is tasty too as well as the salad and agedashi tofu. My spouse had their Okonomiyaki which was pretty good. Service - 5/5. Very courteous and quick service. The waitress also gladly gave me extra pickle side (to my surprise!). Ambiance - 5/5. Cozy, relaxing atmosphere. Will come back again for sure!
Okay, I get it now. Two restaurants in one - Fugetsu and Rokko. We were definitely there to have Okonomiyaki (and modanyaki - the version with yakisoba noodles). We got the deluxe modanyaki, the unagi Okonomiyaki, the takoyaku with negi mayo, and the chicken katsu with negi mayo soy. The unagi Okonomiyaki has lots of unagi! All the dishes were great - really filling. We came for lunch so had time to walk off the meal.
Came here for lunch a couple times over the past month to meet up with friends. On the last occasion the two of us split two dishes: * Hamachi Jalapeño Carpaccio * Okonomiyaki sampler The hamachi tasted very fresh and the complement of jalapeño, tomatoes and onions gave it refreshing and layered flavor. The okonomiyaki sampler was effectively 1 regular size okonomiyaki but with each quarter being a different flavor. I don't recall what the flavors were called, but tbh, they don't taste that different from one another imo. If you like okonomyaki, like I do, I think this is a great choice; especially if you're going to share with the table. With Fugetsu being so conveniently located near the office, it's likely I'll be going back before long, especially when I have an okonomiyaki craving.
Food 4/5 If you're craving okonomiyaki, this is the spot! Although their portion for Okonomiyaki is quite small (see picture). Food is standard, nothing too crazy. Service 5/5 Waiters are attentive and we got seated right away when they opened. Ambiance 4/5 The usual ambiance for a sushi/japanese place. It is more spacious compared to other Japanese restaurants.
If you've got an okonomiyaki craving then this place will hit the spot for sure. - we got the cheese and pork one, and another beef one with yakisoba noodles on top - overall taste and flavors were pretty solid and the portions are large - tip: it takes ~25 minutes for the okonomiyaki to come out so keep that in mind when ordering! - this place is also in another restaurant but you can order from both! - service was fairly solid although a friend had to ask for water a few times
I don't think there's a lot of places in the Bay to grab okonomiyaki, and I definitely didn't expect to find Fugetsu inside another restaurant? Shoutout to the tips in other reviews saying Fugetsu's menu is being served at Rokko! I got the regular seafood okonomiyaki not knowing there wouldn't be any noodles in it because I'm that bad at reading the menu...oops. The okonomiyaki was still good though, and it had the saucy richness you want after a long day. The deluxe okonomiyaki was definitely better thanks to the egg and pork belly! Pork belly was flavorful and nicely crispy on the edges. Service was decent, and you can tell this is the kind of place you go to for drinks and shareable plates. Overall, okonomiyaki was enjoyable!
I've grabbed item from their grab and go location in San Jose many times so I was excited to try the items fresh. Honestly, it tasted very similar to the grab and go, which isn't bad. It just means they are consistent. I was hoping that it would taste even better fresh though. Everything is on the softer side, if you like it more crispy, then you might not enjoy it as much. However the flavor is very good and the service is nice. There are not many okonomiyaki places around so this is nice if your craving it.

I love okonomiyaki especially really good ones! My friend suggested this place for me to try with her since she has been there before. I had the seafood okonomiyaki and my friend had her usual yakisoba with pork. They both come out cooked on the foil and they place it on the hot plate. Both are delicious! I finished my okonomiyaki! My friend ate half of her yakisoba and took the rest to go. If you check in, you get one of those free apps such as edamame. Yummy! FYI -they do get packed. You might have to wait a bit. read more
I was excited for this place since it had okonomiyaki. We got a few items to share as the portions are a little small. Dashi Tonpei Yaki (egg omlette service in dashi broth) - I love dashi broth. I think it has such a great fish/seafood flavor so I was really excited about this dish. After taking a bite, I thought it was okay. The omlette was nice and fluffy, and the dashi broth gave it a nice light flavor. Okonomiyaki (japanese pancake with cabbage, egg, flour and meat): This was cool because they put it on the grill in front of you and it stays hot as you eat it. I thought this was just okay as well. I liked that it was a little crispy because of the grill, but it was pretty bland if it wasn't for the sauce on top. Uni Yaki Onigili (rice ball with uni): I liked that the rice ball was a little crispy, but it didn't have much flavor. The uni was good, but wasn't super fresh. Fried oysters: this was our favorite part of the whole meal. The oysters were cooked well, had a great sea food flavor and only needed a squeeze of lemon on top to be ready to eat. Overall 4/5: Pretty good place for okonomiyaki, and I would say better than any other that I've tried in the bay. I'd recommend getting the modan style (+$3) and adding cheese well. Taste (4/5): - Cheetama pork modan ($19): I really liked this one. Modan basically means that they add a bunch of yakisoba noodles in the middle, which gives it a good texture and makes the dish much larger. - Uni okonomiyaki ($25): This one was pretty good as well but I personally liked the cheetama better. The uni was just okay-tasting, and the portion is definitely smaller than the modan. We also added cheese, which cost +$2, and we thought this was worth it. - You also get a free side (we got butter corn) with Yelp check-in. Service (4/5): - Service was attentive and quite friendly. - Took some time for the okonomiyaki to come out (~25min for us). - We came at 6:45pm on a sunday night and waited about 10min, so not too bad. Price: $$ - Most okonomiyaki are around $15-19, and then optional +$3 for modan. read more

Coming straight from Japan, Fugetsu is a franchise with 80 locations in Asia. Thanks to Shinya and his team, they managed to bring a slice of Japan to Santa Clara. The wait is pretty long because of how food is prepared but it is definitely worth it. My SO and I followed Fugetsu's ordering process - one appetizer, one soba and one pancake. We ordered a buttered corn (ask for cheese on top), shiosoba and an okonomiyaki. Each dish was good, but I felt like something was missing. I wish they added more meats to the dishes. The service was friendly and fast, plus the food was good. I'll definitely try other appetizers next time :-) read more

The seafood tama: 5 stars. Pretty delicious and healthy. Taiyaki: 5 stars. I love the Taiyaki with hot red bean inside. :P Service: 4 stars. When I enjoy the seafood tama, the waiter give me the dessert. After I finish my entree, the ice cream has melted. Oh no! Why not check with me if I need the dessert now when I enjoy my entree? Four stars for the lunch special! The portion is huge, and so flavorful. I got the yakisoba + okonomiyaki special that comes with a salad. The price is very reasonable for that amount of food, although the yakisoba was a bit disappointing. It just looked like stir fried noodles with a few pieces of meat and veggie tossed in. However, the okonomiyaki was delightful. The veggies inside were not soggy at all, and the combination of mayo on the inside and hoisin-ish sauce on top made each bite unique. Didn't feel at all like I was just eating a pile of sauce. I noticed that their dinner menus are quite interesting, with a lot of different "premium" seafood options. I'd come here again, but I don't recommend the yakisoba part LOL Service was really polite, although since it was bumpin' on a weekend lunch, they were a bit forgetful (like I had to ask multiple times for water refill). read more
Disclaimer: In general, I don't really like okonomiyaki. That said, my in-laws and husband really liked it! We ordered 3 okonomiyaki to share between the 4 of us (Cheetama pork (cheesy pork), negi, and seafood) plus sides to share (scallop carpaccio, takowasa, cucumbers, kimchee, and uni yaki onigiri). I really liked the sides and I think my favorite was the scallop carpaccio and uni onigiri. My husband's favorite was the negi okonomiyaki, MIL loved the seafood okonomiyaki, and FIL liked the cheesy pork okonomiyaki. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of okonomiyaki, but if I had to pick a fave, it would be the seafood. The menu is pretty pricy for what you get. I ordered hot tea (just a regular cup of hot tea) for $2.50 with no refills. That was surprising and a bit ridiculous if you ask me. read more

Food taste pretty good, but not the type of restaurant I expected. Came over for some authentic okonomiyaki and taipantaki that's cooked by oneself. But turned out the heating plate in front of everyone was just for warming up the food. Everything was cooked in the kitchen and then placed on the hot steel to keep it worm. We got here right after it opens for dinner, then store got quite busy after 6:30pm. read more

We got a reservation for 4 at 8pm on Friday. When they bring the food out and put it on your grill, you can actually start eating right away since it's already hot. But if you're too slow, the bottom will burn! We ordered the edamame (using the Yelp special offer), the pork omelette appetizer, the seafood okonomiyaki, and a regular okonomiyaki with noodles. The okonomiyakis took almost 30 minutes to come out (they do warn you about this). We demolished them and then added an order of green onion yakisoba since we were still hungry. Staff was polite and friendly. The food was good, but I personally don't like mayo. I think it made the entire meal too heavy. The pork in the omelette appetizer was a bit chewy. It came out to $20 each for an average meal. read more
Solid spot for bento boxes and okonomiyaki! I've had Fugetsu on my list for a while, and saw they recently added new bento box options. They are located in the same plaza as 99 Chicken. I tried calling in my order around 5:30pm on a Friday, but no one picked up the phone. I finally gave up and ordered through Uber Eats (luckily, the bento was only an additional $2). They estimated 30 minutes, but my order was already ready in about 20 minutes (might have been sooner, so go inside to check if you arrive early). I tried their Deluxe Pork Okonomiyaki Bento (w/Chicken Karaage, Stewed Beef Over Rice, Takoyaki, Edamame, $16, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=s6wNeKwD0fz3r9t1-DNm0Q&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg), which was great since I got to try a little bit of everything. My favorite was their okonomiyaki, which had a great crisp/sear on the outside, and all the vegetables were cooked well. Their chicken karaage was also fried well and flavorful, and the stewed beef and takoyaki were solid. This was an ample portion of food, and I would order it again. It seems like they are understaffed, so please be patient when ordering and picking up your order. Parking was easy to find at the time since there were plenty of spots in this plaza. read more

Okonomiyaki has been described to me variously as Japanese pizza and as a Japanese pancake. I don't think it fits either description; it's too healthy to be a pizza or a pancake. Most of the base consists of shredded cabbage, with just enough dough and egg to hold it together, and little to no cheese. While Fugetsu specializes in okonomiyaki and yakisoba (buckwheat noodles, descendants of the lo mein), both of which are excellent, what really continues to draw me back is their small plates. Many of these "Japanese tapas" (I don't know why we need to keep analogizing Japanese dishes to western dishes) are served on sizzling platters. My personal favorites are the kaki (oysters) in a soy butter sauce, the steak in a garlic sauce, the ebi (shrimp) with melted white cheese, and the shishamo (smelt) in a soy butter sauce. Space is limited, and the restaurant can get very full very fast at dinner time. If you're a solo diner, get here as soon as the restaurant opens (6PM on weekdays, 5:30PM on weekends) to be seated at the counter (or a table, if you're very, very lucky); if you're bringing friends or family, make a reservation in advance. read more

I didn't realize this location, which was originally on El Camino, had moved to downtown Sunnyvale. It's a bit of a weird situation, since you're looking for Roku's restaurant, and inside you can order food from both Roku and Fugetsu. Having gone to the Santa Clara location previously, I was ready with the exact order I wanted. If you get okonomiyaki, their menu does remark that it will take a bit longer. If you're with friends and/or with drinks, the time passes by quick. I specifically asked to have the okonomiyaki sauce on the side, though I allowed them to put the other toppings on top. If you never had okonomiyaki here before, do keep in mind that the sauce is quite sweet. I actually didn't use much of my sauce at all, and being able to control how much I put on it was perfect. I ordered the deluxe, which was delicious. Other people's orders looked good as well. I feel like you can't go wrong with any of the orders, as long as you like all the components that they list in it. I did have one friend who did not order okonomiyaki, and instead ordered a salmon donburi. I do recommend asking about sizing and portions if you go for this option. He got a decent portion, it looked good, and he said it tasted great. He got the medium, I believe, which was perfect for him. Otherwise, they have some alcohol on the menu. We did not try any of the Roku items, though that is something to consider in the future. read more

I was kind of scared off by the hot & cold reviews of this place but Fugefsu definitelyyyy did not disappoint :) To start off we had the side butter corn which was simple but very yummy :) For main courses we ordered the ebi mayo cheese seafood tama as well as the Negimayo Shiosoba. Using the okonomiyaki I tried in Japan as a baseline, this place is pretty good IMO. The cheese seafood was so delicious (& had that beautiful cheese pull) and the texture was on point. They served the yakisoba on a piece of foil but the seafood tama straight on the grill (aka the yakisoba was a little uglier lol but both tasted great). One thing I gotta complain about is the price... it's not cheap here (esp when okonomiyaki in Tokyo/Kyoto came out to around 8-9$ USD). But the quality is there and everything tasted quite authentic to me. Not sure where else you can get okonomiyaki like this in the Bay Area. Give this place a try! Note: don't try to take the dishes here as leftovers lol. We made that mistake and it wasn't pretty :'( read more

I am always in the hunt for Japanese street-food, Fugetsu is one that i can add to my go to street food good, fast friendly service food is great. 1st time here. Seafood is must try, legit seafood like scallop, crab, oyster no fake s$(#t. dam I'm getting hungry again. Price? U be the judges when you cam here. It seems like the rush is at 7:30 pm and we missed it by going at 6:30 pm on a Friday. There was wait when I got there with plenty of open tables for 2. This place is kind of fun/different in that there is this hot plate in the middle of the table that keeps your food hot/warm (don't worry your food is fully cooked when it are arrives at the table). Free item with yelp check in, so don't forget! Otherwise, everything that we got was good, but the best was definitely the okonomiyaki. I think the onigiri is something I might pass on next time, however this restaurant is a place I would frequent on the future! read more
My fiancé and I were so happy to find this place! We've had okonomiyaki in Japan before and haven't had it since our last trip a few years ago. Coming here is lots of fun - you get the food delivered to your table as it's ready with the traditional serving utensils. We ordered one of the seafood okonomiyaki and a yakisoba. Both were soooo good! We also happened to be there during happy hour time and took advantage. The amount of sake they give you during happy hour is totally worth it - I ordered one for myself and it was too much for me to finish with my meal! There are also some days and times when certain okonomiyaki are on a happy hour price (I think around $10). It is a bit of a wait after you order but that's just because they're making it fresh! Coming here on a weeknight you should be able to get a table pretty easily but still not feel like you're the only one in the restaurant. I definitely want to come back here! read more

Went there with a group of 5 at 6PM on a Friday night. We reserved a table at 6PM as you cannot make any reservation after 6PM. The restaurant is small so that make it very easy to be fully seated. The ambience is casual and relax, food is just fine very Japanese style. read more
In the mood to try something we've never had before, the hubby and I made our way to Fugetsu to try their popular (and delicious looking) okonomiyaki. The restaurant itself is on the tinier side, but modern looking with their theme of black and red colors. There is a tiny bar that seats six patrons and for every table (or pairing) there is a grill plate in front to keep food warm. Using our trusty friend, Google, the hubby and I learned that okonomiyaki is a Japanese pancake made with shredded cabbage, flour, and eggs that is topped off with a variety of ingredients. Another item we've never encountered before was yakisoba which is a noodle stir fry dish, normally prepared with wheat flour noodles. Armed with new knowledge, the hubby and I decided to share the Fugetsu okonomiyaki and the seafood yakisoba. Because it takes about 20-30 minutes for the main entrees to be prepared, Fugetsu offers a free mini appetizer with a Yelp check-in so we chose buttered corn. The portion is certainly smaller than the real appetizer, but we appreciated the light butter taste and how the corn wasn't mushy. The yakisoba was served first on a piece of aluminum foil that the server placed on top of the grill. The noodles looked "basic," but the flavors were great. I absolutely loved the chewiness of the noodles and how the oyster sauce was actually cooked into them, not just drizzled on top. While the shrimp were cooked well, there wasn't very much of it and the squid was a tad rubbery. The okomomiyaki was mighty impressive with its crispy crust and saucy appearance. Prepared with shrimp, prawns, pork, and beef, this one was the heavier dish of the two, but that didn't stop us from devouring it. The filling was a combination of crispy and tender, and the sauce on top reminded us a lot of takoyaki. The hubby loved the shredded cabbage that had a hint of bitterness thanks to the char, although he would have liked more of it. Overall, we liked the food, but for the portion size, the prices are definitely on the higher end. Service, however, was accommodating and friendly, a usual for most Japanese restaurants. While Fugetsu didn't amaze our taste buds, we certainly appreciated trying (and learning!) something new about Japanese cuisine. read more

Came by on a weekend for lunch and there was about a 20 min wait. I love okonomiyaki so it was cool to find a place in this area that specialize in it. My friend and I ordered a fugetsuyaki and a seafood omelette. Fugetsuyaki- super flavorful and saucy. Piping hot and kept hot on the grill on the table. Pretty large, definitely a sharing dish. Dish has veggies, noodles, eggs, and pork. There is a lot of sauce so it's good to have some rice to balance out all that sauce. Seafood omelette- good amount of seafood inside. Scattered pieces of squid and shrimp inside. Veggies give it a nice crunch. Flavors were good, seasoned well. Overall, I would come back if I'm in the area and craving some okonomiyaki. read more

If you're a crunch-head like me, make sure to order the Yaki Onigiri appetizer. These deep fried rice balls are deliciously crunchy and savory. They are fried through and through and make my mouth water! I've been coming back to this location JUST for the Onigiri dish. Their flagship dish, the fugetsuyaki, was pretty average. Simple texture, and a meager serving size makes it bad value. Not too much depth of flavor either. I don't think it's worth the 20-30 min wait time, so I probably wouldn't order it again. In my most recent visit, I got the Buta Negi and it was excellent value. For $8, you get a small plate of pork belly slices. It was overcooked a little but still was tremendously higher quality and value than the more expensive Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba categories of the menu. read more

I had higher expectations for this place. The restaurant has grills at every table along with a full hood vent system so I thought that the food would be grilled on our tables. Not sure what their purpose is. The food was instead cooked backstage and brought out in a piece of foil so I'm guessing the grills are just there to keep the food warm. The staff didn't do much explaining. We ordered the mentai yakisoba noodles(?), fugetsuyaki Okonomiyaki, and garlic steak. Yakisoba had good flavor and I also liked the addition of the roe topping. Fugetsuyaki was decent - it had a variety of meats inside but the sauce was a little too sweet. Garlic steak was well done, but the flavors were all there! I think the food may be a bit overpriced, but overall taste wise it was good. Probably not a restaurant I would go out of my way for. read more

I've been eyeing Fugetsu for a while so I'm glad I was finally able to try it! Originally from Osaka, Fugetsu USA always has long lines during lunch hour. I made a reservation and was quickly seated, but keep in mind it took 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive. We tried the pork okonomiyaki and yakisoba omelette. The yakisoba could be better. I'd definitely get the okonomiyaki again and want to try the onigiris and other tapas styled items they have. Definitely an option for my next lunch break! read more
My Japanese colleagues are always raving about okonomiyaki, Japanese savory pancake which contains a variety of ingredients, so it's simply a matter of time before we give Fugetsu a try! My only aversion, aside from pad thai, is having too much bean sprouts in the dishes. Thankfully, most of these came with it so that's a plus! The four of us decided on getting the following: Negi tsukimi-tama - pork okonomiyaki with green onion and egg. There's something about green onion that just goes really well with this pancake. Cheetama pork modan - Pork okonomiyaki with melted cheese with egg and noodle. Although the flavors are intense, I can care less for the thick udon-like noodles. Maybe will try without the excess starch next time. Pork omelette set - pork and vegetables wrapped in an omelette. Comes with salad, rice and miso soup. Pretty decent for an omelette but I think I'd prefer to have the okonomiyaki. Mentai mayo yaki onigiri - grilled rice ball with spicy code roe and mayo. This is by far my favorite item at Fugetsu - perfectly grilled and absolutely delicious! Uni yaki onigiri - grilled rice ball with sea urchin. This is not too bad having the the sea urchin topping but I think the mentai grilled rice ball is a definite repeat for next time. read more

Surprise you're in Japan which is 16 hours ahead! It's actually 3AM and its a crime against humanity to eat breakfast food at this time. Your next best choice is to eat Japanese savory pancakes. We made a reservation on Friday at 6 for 4 and it didn't look too crowded but the restaurant fills up fast. To start we ordered the tonpei yaki, shishamo butter soy sauce, and Ikura yaki onigiri. I love yaki onigiri and this place did not disappoint. If you've never had yaki onigiri you have to try it! It's basically baked rice--just imagine: crunchy rice. We also got a free side of edamame with our check in! I've had Okonomiyaki in Japan and this place was just as good. We ordered the seafood-tama and the gyusuji negi-tama. Overall: 3.5 stars I don't know too many places in the Bay that serve okonomiyaki and have the hot grills. I like the modanyaki but I've had the okonomiyaki place in Little Tokyo LA and theirs is so good so it's hard to have to compare it to that. I think it will do the job if you are craving it and the price point is fair. What we ordered: - Tanpei Yaki: signature omelette with house special sauce. We got the regular which comes with pork inside. The pork was overcooked but the egg and the sauce were good, maybe try the seafood version of it instead (3 stars) - Buta Negi: pork belly with green onion. Portion size is a bit on the small size, tasty, but would have liked it cooked a little less (3.5 stars) - Chanpon Yakisoba: house special stir fried noodles with squid, prawn, pork, beef, cabbage and egg. I thought it was just okay, not as good as the modanyaki but we ordered this one for our friend who is lactose as the modanyaki has some dairy they use in the batter (3 stars) - Modanyaki: signature noodles covered on top of the okonomiyaki. This one was pretty tasty and I enjoy the mix of of the yakisoba noodles combined with the okonomiyaki. My favorite dish we ordered and all the protein was tasty inside (4.5 stars) Other notes: - Service can be a bit slow - The restaurant isn't too large, I've never had to wait long before but I could see this place getting busy - Parking is easy because there is a lot for the plaza it's located at read more
