My new favorite restaurant! I had a great lunch experience at Fumo and can't stop raving about it to others. The ambiance and decor was rustic and chic. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The music playlist was amazing and I was so surprised by the music selection as each song was one of my favorites. The food and drinks were excellent. I ordered the Amelia as my drink which has sweet notes. My date ordered the Perla which is a spicy drink yet he asked to hold the habanero bitters and chili salt rim. The kale Caesar salad with shrimp was light yet filling due to the large portion. They have some really great deals for lunch ($10 pasta!) and are also offering 15% off pick-up orders. I'm also really glad they've been able to open up a lot of outdoor seating in some of the neighboring spaces. In terms of safety measures, tables are a good distance apart, staff is consistently wearing masks, and there's hand sanitizer offered. As a vegan, I usually find it challenging to find options at an Italian restaurant that aren't plain pasta with marinara, but they have a ton of options with the chance to sub non-dairy cheese for a small upcharge ($3). This was my second time at Fumo, but my first at the UWS restaurant. While I mostly enjoyed my time there--the Carolina drink was good, and the Funghi pasta was delicious-- the sides and small plates were mid. My friend and I ordered the eggplant parm and truffle fries to share; the latter fries, especially, left little to be desired. Instantly upon each eating a fry, we'd noticed there was entirely wayyyy too much truffle used. While we both considered ourselves to be people that enjoyed truffle-- my funghi had truffle--the amount used in these fries was almost offensive to the senses. We eventually gave up and had to move them to the table next to us to rid us of its nauseating smell. When we asked the waiter to take them back, as we'd barely touched the fries, he refused, insisting that we'd ordered *truffle* fries, and we'd gotten what we paid for. Overall, I will never be ordering those fries again. If I go back to Fumo, I will stick with what they're known for: the pasta. read more

The tomato sauce is nice and robust and the pizza itself was not at all heavy. It's an individual-sized pie so you can get several in a group and mix & match. I think Fumo is a great option for a casual dinner. I have been a few times and have always found the service to be pretty good and the environment lively. For the price, I think the quality of the food is pretty good. During COVID, they have expanded their outdoor seating options and decorated it really nicely too! We ordered the Penne Funghi, Spaghetti Carbonara, and Chicken Marsala. I have also had the Rigatoni Norma, Margherita Pizza, and Kale Caesar before as well. For the Upper West Side, the pasta is pretty good and consistently comes out al dente. I think the Penne Funghi was decent but personally prefer the Rigatoni Norma or Spaghetti Carbonara instead. I was impressed by the Chicken Marsala and by their pizzas too and would recommend trying those as well. The kale caesar is also pretty good and the portion is pretty large. If you are looking for a decent option for Italian food in Morningside Heights, I would definitely recommend checking Fumo out. Their regular prices are pretty reasonable, but if you can go during their happy hours or on Sundays, their prices are discounted. read more

Instead of getting wine, I got the margarita and Paloma. They were 6 dollars each. The margarita was pretty good! Not too sweet. The key is to serve it in a salt rimmed glass to add the extra kick. The artichoke was delicious, but I agree with the other reviewer that the mayo dipping sauce is too much. I think a vinaigrette or a lighter less creamy dipping sauce would've paired better. Don't mean to be a Karen But this was my first time at this restaurant , I arrived at approximately 3:50pm I was told to order before lunch was over fine no problem I ordered , I wanted to add something to my order it took 10mins to get the waiters attention it wasn't even busy I received my second order before my first... I was given my lunch order until I was ready to leave , it was packed in a to-go container and I never asked to get it to-go so the entire time I was sitting waiting for my lunch it was just sitting in a to-go bag it was there for approximately 20 mins. Once I was given my bill I asked to speak to the manager when I explained my first experience there he answered "it's still a $12 pasta"... which honestly is a horrible response the price didn't matter it was that was order was never given to me... We ordered the calamari and arugula salad to start. The calamari was good, but the arugula salad was a bit lackluster. I had the Rigatoni Gamberi and I did not really enjoy it, the pasta was a bit more al dente than I prefer and my food came out so fast as if it was literally just sitting there. Definitely wasn't worth the $24 price tag. I've always heard great things about this place and was surprised at how little I enjoyed it. The service was also underwhelming for me, I got seated immediately which was a plus but after I got my food no one checked on me to see if I needed anything else I would have stayed for another glass of wine had I not been asked once I already requested the bill.
