Just great! Very interesting blend- kale salad is really unique and inspiring. They do an amazing job with pinneapple integration. And, fries are some of the best I've had since in a long while. Me and my partner wanted to try a new place for new year's at home so we got ourselves a feast to go. The food was great! Some really delicious dishes and a few misses. Our favorite dish by far were the meatballs/albondigas - the ancho chilli sauce theyre drenched in is heavenly! We also loved the potato croquettes, pan con tomato, and the buttery oxtail. The paella wasn't bad but nothing much to it. The ragu that came with the oxtail was too crispy - it was chewy in a bad way. And the churros were disappointing. We stumbled into this place on a whim, and we are glad we did! The mushroom toast, oxtail croquettes and pork belly was the star of our dinner and the custard dessert was to die for. Very disappointed with my brunch experience this morning. I dined at Gabi James about 2 months ago and had an amazing meal but today everything that we ordered was not good. We started with the potato and cheese croquettes and they were barely warm, then I ordered the Build Your Own Breakfast with egg whites, arugula salad, avocado and a side of toast. They forgot to bring my toast so I had to wait 20 mins for them to give it to me after I already had my meal and my avocado was rotten :( read more

How did Michelin Guide get it so wrong? I'm incredibly forgiving and next to never write reviews (good or bad, check my profile) but after this experience I felt compelled. It started with the caesar salad that was severely under dressed and continued on with a gin negroni (that came after the salad did) that tasted like cough syrup. After asking for more dressing that never came, I let the server know I wasn't enjoying the drink and would like something else. They removed the negroni from the table after my 2 sips. I asked for a recommendation that specifically did not taste fruity and was steered towards the Hop Velvet which tasted like nothing but Aperol and sugar. This was after being told that none of the drinks taste fruity but some have fruit in them, a logic that escapes me but I let them have in the moment out of kindness unwittingly sealing my fate of not getting what I was looking for. Then my first small course came, a fish and potato purée "gratin" made into something of a dip that came with a single small slice of bread cut in half so it could be called 2. The proportions were laughably out of wack. To stretch out the bread as far as I could, i took massively large dips but still only got less than a third through it. There was no way to eat this "gratin" dip with nothing to dip it in and it was nowhere near good enough to eat on its own as it needed the bread to cut through the palette-destroying amounts of salt that were poured into it. After asking for more bread, I was told I would have to pay an additional $5 for it at which point I declined on principal and left the sauce there to rot on the table untouched for the rest of the evening. Moving onto my "media" course of glazed pork belly. The menu stated it was to come with pt reyes blue cheese which got me excited only to be left in a lurch by the, again, unbalanced proportions of large pork belly pieces and the smallest pinch of blue cheese crumbles. I attempted to ration it out but got frustrated at the inability to then taste the blue cheese and decided to go all in on 2 bites leaving 2 of the 3 pieces of pork belly behind. The blue cheese balanced the heavy flavors of the glazed pork and ridiculous sweetness of the over-reduced date mastarda so without it there's no point in continuing on. In the end they comped the gratin after they tried to upsell me on more bread and I became noticeably unhappy. By then it was too little too late. Their initial actions that left me feeling unwelcome and the attempt to make up for up only stung more when I saw I was charged for the cough syrup drink they took away from me AND the new fruity drink they replaced it with. This was my third time visiting this restaurant and each time had some large failure. I persisted anyway hoping the third time would be a charm but instead I can now confidently say I will never be returning. I suggest you spare yourself the time waste and dent to your wallet it will leave you with and eat somewhere else, anywhere else. read more

The oxtail hash is absolutely phenomenal! The flavors come together very well in this non traditional breakfast dish. Its a masterpiece that cannot be topped. It is not salty or spicy by any means and it pairs perfectly with the rose mimosa. The French toast is yummy as well and the fruit that its topped with is fresh and flavorful. The Avo-Toast is a safe best and thr breast is toasted to perfection, but not overly crunchy. Staff is friendly and attentive. 3 hour time limit for bottomless mimosas! They set a marker on the table so you know exactly when your time is coming to a close. I highly recommend for brunch, cant wait to go back! read more

After recently leaving the south bay Gabi James is one of the few places I make sure to return to when I go home. I crave the food, especially the paella, oxtail ragu and dates! The menu is unique without being intimidating. The drink options are also amazing. I'm a sucker for a quality cocktail and this place always hits the spot. Plus, a wine by the glass list that is actually intriguing (Txakolina!). Another extremely important part of this restaurant that keeps me coming back is the service. I went during brunch and immediately fell in love with the ambiance. They didn't skimp out on the quality of the furniture. The decor was perfect. I tried four dishes Papas Verde, Tortilla Española, Merguez Burger and the Crepe Pierre. The Papas Verde is a shareable plate. Imagine crispy potatoes with bits of chorizo, a fried egg on top surrounded by mojo verde. It was amazing. Then the Tortillas Español just blew my mind. The layers as if it were like a potato crepe with sherry vinegar aioli. It was superb. If you combine the two dishes, you get a wonderful mix of flavors. Apparently, sherry vinegar is a theme in their dishes. It's fantastic! I want I didn't know what to expect with the lamb burger, but the Chef has been making it since he was a kid. All I got to say is it was excellent. The Tunisian spiced lamb with yogurt, cucumber, date chutney is nothing like you have tasted. It's a great burger. The Pierre Crepe was a nice finish for dessert. It was filled with chocolate and had an orange flavor on top. I also tried two types of house-made Sangrias made by Adam himself. One was a Rosé Sangria (almost looked similar to an Aperol Spritz) and the other was a sweet dry red sangria. That one was my favorite. I highly recommend this restaurant. Wow!!!! I am so happy with Sara and Alan and the work they did for my 11th Anniversary! They recreated our wedding menu, complete with a cute meal card, bringing lots of off menu items in just for us. Every bite was delicious, and they paired beers & wines with every dish. The way they set up their outdoor seating was fantastic. Comfortable & spacious, we felt plenty of distance from other tables. We also loved Alan's stories and the joy he showed for the cuisine he and Sara have built. We are anticipating going back SOON to sample some of the wonderful dishes that are actually on the menu. Love the atmosphere and the food here. Went for my birthday dinner (obviously scaled down due to the pandemic, just a couple friends) and they had great, timely service and great food. The little potato appetizer was super good, I loved their arugula salad and you definitely need to get the shrimp (I think its like a ceviche) with the grilled garlic toast. Positives first, the decor and ambiance was lovely. The staff were both accommodating and friendly. The shoestring fries were super yummy; just the right crunch! The presentation of all the dishes was great. However, the chicken, Brussel sprouts, paella and churro all were missing something. The chicken was moist and juice but no flavor. You can't have excellent food, mediocre ambiance and so so service. It's all got to be there and Gabi James brings it ALL! The personal greetings from the owners and managers, to the delish offerings on the menu (my go to is the steak and arugula salad), the BEST gin and tonics I have EVER had, and a comfortable, modern, but not too cool for school environment has me returning on a weekly basis! My only complaint?? Though the prices are totally reasonable, I can't help spending all of my money there! Went to Gabi James for a friend's birthday dinner. Restaurant is located in the Riviera Village section of South Redondo Beach, which is very cute with lots of shops & restaurants. They have a nice indoor & outdoor patio section. They have a good cocktail & wine selection and the service was good. Our table favorites were the shishito peppers, gambas al ajillo, and definitely the flank steak. The fiduea, although highly recommended, fell short for us. The flavor was there but using the pasta instead of rice was a misstep in our opinion. Overall, we had a lovely evening and I would be happy to give this restaurant another try. read more

I've been going to gabi james since they opened whether it's for dinner, drinks or a wine pairing. What impresses me most is how different and delicious their menu is from most restaurants in the South Bay. A few favorites have been the tortilla espanola, oxtail ragu and the seafood paella. On the flip side they offer a gin and tonic menu, the the Blaine and Andie has an IPA syrup and the wine list isn't what you find at the local grocery store. Creativity plus quality equals money well spent. read more

First time here. I ordered the lamb chops and they were over cooked. They graciously took them back and brought another order. Sadly this was mostly raw and sent it back without requesting a new order We went straight to dessert and ordered the chocolate bread pudding with a 20 year tawny port. The bread pudding was great but it was only heated half way; so it was replaced with a new one. Great flavor and really Delisciouis. All in all ok. Will we return; that is yet to be seen. read more

Had a fun evening here but the food was very ordinary. Spent $70 per head having dinner and two inexpensive drinks but literally had to eat something when I got hime. Had the scallops for my main and there were only 4 on my plate along with some ordinary mashed potato and an almond flavorless sauce. Heavy ammonia taste in 3 of them - not at all fresh.We used to eat here often when it was Zazau (used to have a great lamb shank and beef short rib). Won't be back by choice. read more

Incredibly original restaurant in our own Riviera! Loving that we don't need to head over to the pretentious side of town for an exquisitely good meal with plenty of interesting choices that makes you only want to come here with 3 or more people so you can try a lot of them. Our favorites: Tuna crudo, albondigas ( do not forget to order the side of bread as you will not want a drop of the delectable sauce to go to waste), oxtail ragu with the nicely surprising crispy pasta, sobrasada squash ( who says "vegetables" are boring? not this one -and it's actually a fruit ), and do not underestimate the "free" chips- "well done" just the way we like them- and i had to bring our leftovers home. We stared at our dining neighbors' plate of rib eye that they said was worth every penny and it looked fabulous. Can't wait to try it at our next and subsequent visits. i even purchased a gift card for a friend just so we can come back together soon, especially because the service is equally as good! our only suggestion is that they revisit the paella dish. while the tangy flavor was interesting, I was seeking a sauce that was something more complex and substantial to flavor the bland noodles which i barely touched but was a significant part of the dish. the clams and mussels were subtle ( small) and half the mussels had nothing in them. Being in this crazy restaurant business I know how difficult it is to make sure that every guest has a great experience and it's not just the food. Gabi James has a lively atmosphere but still warm and comfortable and the service is very warm and friendly as well. Our server was great, very helpful with the menu, which is huge, and different from most places you will go. He,along with his support staff were spot on with attentive and friendly service. The owners were both there as well. Adam was very visible on the floor, always checking on his guests and making them feel as if they were guests in his own home. He wasn't just cruising but helping his staff in all ways. If you decide to go try the Beach Cruiser Gin cocktail. Wow. read more

Every week I was suppose to go. Yes, it has been open a while and all my friends have said how good this place is. I finally made it and yes, it is as good as my buds have said. So, a Saturday night with my "old" gal and was seated quickly (with my 7pm reservation). First some potato chips and "free" bottled water (pure genius). The wonderful server went over a few things, told me they are famous for their gin selection and I said I was famous for my gin drinking (yes I ordered a martini of Old London or something that was awesome). We ordered first some potato croquettes that were awesome followed by the peppers that hit the spot as well. We both decided to go with the whole fish though my partners wanted the tail and head cut off and for my I like the whole thing (like Felix the Cat). The fish was perfect to say the least. For dessert the perfectly prepared chocolate bread pudding. Wow was that good. Not overly sweet and well prepared. So, yes the long wait is finally over and I will come back time and time again. I wanted to like this place. I used to come here when it was Zazou. From what I understand it is still the same family that owns it. Unfortunately, the food is not as good as Zazou. We ordered about 6 or 7 different things to share as a group. Maybe 2 or 3 were good/decent. For the price point I can think of a few other places I wore go to before this place.
