Not just a meal - an amazing EXPERIENCE! I will be eating at Gabi James every time I make it back to Redondo Beach. Interesting, exciting, and delicious...plus fantastic service! I was already very happy with the textural bliss of their Spanish tortilla and Octopus, when I tasted the All Day Oxtail Ragu...and I've been dreaming about it ever since. It's THAT good. Must try. One of the best dishes I have ever eaten. And they have great drinks! In between eating my food, the owner, Adam, and my servers helped educate me about their Sherry and Vermouth selection, as well as the largest gin and tonic selection I've ever seen in one place. Great spot! Randomly ended up here because it is open late for dinner! Finally a place on this strip that serves past 9:30pm! woo hoo. The food is Tapas style but they do serve a few "big plates" which are equivelent to a normal dinner entree. Stuck w/ their steak options and found them super tasty! The smaller plates are interesting and have a lot to choose from. The only disappointment I would say were their GT's 1) why are they not served in rocks glasses? 2) Neither had true flavor to them. The two servers that we had were GREAT!! Truly we had some fantastic service throughout the night and never felt rushed to leave even though it was closing time. For sure we will be back!! read more

This place is ok.. the ambiance is great but the food isn't authentic Spanish dishes. We enjoyed the gamba el ajillo was great and the gin & tonics. However, the octopus was all black and seemed over cooked and the paella was definitely not authentic. There's no flavor and usually you can tell if it was cooked right by the taste. I brought my family to this restaurant last night and was immediately disappointed in the way we were treated. The manager immediately made a degrading comment towards a family friend we brought along about being from Mexico. The food was over salted, specifically the Paella. It was raw. 0/10. I usually visit new places around my neighborhood 3 times before I write a review. For obvious reasons, I do want the business to do well. This space is beautifully designed. The First time, came by myself during opening week on a Sunday after finishing my program. Cocktails were okay, wish they were stronger. Food was ok. (Ordered the gambas and calamari) 2nd time, came with my SO and sat at the bar after waiting for 20 min outside bc This place was so packed. He loved the blood sausage. My food was just okay. I haven't found anything that stood out. I ordered the vodka cocktail with jalapeño and also tried 2 types of Sauvignon Blanc. 3rd visit, we hosted a dinner party of 7 on a Friday night. We ordered the 2 potato croquettes, calamari, blood sausage, Fideu (sp?), oxtail, 2 caesar Salads, and the gambas. I can say maybe the oxtail and potato croquettes were good. The rest was 'just okay'. Maybe next time, I'll try the salad section on the menu and the sides. We also ordered a few cocktails and a bottle of the granache. The granache was okay. We have spent maybe around $700 on this place in 3 visits. Service is good. Food is okay. Cocktails are decent. read more

Cute tapa style place with good vibes. It's Spanish French food. The food was delicious but a lot of carbs! We ordered Spanish tortilla which is completely different than the Mexican tortilla. It looked like a piece of cake with layers of potatoes, eggs & onions. The sauce was yummy. We then ordered the manchego which was delicious but if you are into carbs you would enjoy it more! It's basically a thick piece of toasted bread with tomatoes with shredded manchego cheese on top. We then got the sea bas which was the best thing we ordered last night. Very lean & yummy. I highly recommend it. The drinks were excellent. I got the jalapeño business & my husband got the lost generation. I loved the names of the cocktails, very funny & cute. Wonderful dining experience from the moment we walked in the door. we had reservations and arrived early and we were seated right away. the cocktails were great not to mention the jell-o shots . We ordered as a group and string our orders together and shared each dish- everything tasted amazing- lamp chops, skirt steak, paella, meatballs, brussel sprouts and asparagus all were winners. the staff was attentive and knowledgeable and very friendly. Update: when I went for my first time at Gabi James soon after they opened, it was ok. Went back for a second time and it was much better. Still not a favorite but I'll be happy to go back and try more dishes :) Best part of the night: SERVICE WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I wish I remembered our server's name, she was amazing and super helpful in recommendations on portions (it's always hard to order tapas for big groups!) First thing she did was point out the new items on the menu which made it easier to maneuver. Food: FIDEUÀ: Still one of my favorites. CROQUETTES: Mini bite-sized croquettes that either come plain, with jamon serrrano or with chorizo. We got one plain and one chorizo, and the chorizo one had just enough kick to make it interesting. A nice side dish with beer. PULPO & PAPAS: Our server's recommendation. This was VERY good. I love it when restaurants can cook octopus correctly (not overcooked but crispy in certain places) ARUGULA SALAD: I somehow missed this the first time I came since it's listed under the sides section instead of medium dishes (where the rest of the salads are). This is simply yet the perfect addition to your meal since a lot of the dishes tend to be bold-flavored, the refreshing salad complements everything well :) I still need to go back for brunch since that menu looks good as well. I miss Zazou! That was the old home of Gabi James and I used to love the food!! In its new avatar, Gabi James is decent. We did brunch where I got the French omelette with coffee, he got the grilled cheese sandwich and a coffee cocktail. My omlette had cream cheese filling and not many chives (though that's what the menu said) and the dressing on the arugula was a bit too tangy. The coffee didn't taste fresh. His grilled cheese was amazing, the cocktail a bit too sweet. We also got the jam bread appetizer and that turned out to be the star of the show!!! I've actually been to Gabi James several times but realized I haven't left a review! Pictured is simply fried calamari and a rosé sangria but they have a large and diverse menu of delicious food ranging from light snacks to hearty entrees. This afternoon we decided to snack! My new favorite restaurant in the South Bay! The atmosphere is hip and chic while still being welcoming. The servers are extremely knowledgeable and have the perfect balance of being attentive without being overbearing. The food and the drinks are incredible! Every drink I've tried here so far has been delicious. My favorite is the Funky Cold Molina. If you enjoy Spanish food, you're going to be thrilled. Their tortilla is excellent. Also the pan con tomate is amazing. (Any of the dishes with bread are a highlight because the bread is just so good.) The croquettes are very tasty and the oxtail ragu is a must! I also heard that the flank steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, but I did not try it myself. I hope they're open for lunch and brunch soon! read more

Outstanding Dining Experience. I dined at this wonderful establishment this past Saturday with my Wife. We were greeted promptly by the Host. I informed him that we did not have a reservation, and he quickly offered us a seat at the bar. (The place as packed). The Female bartender was truly amazing, suggested cocktails and nice menu selections for us. Everything we we ordered was amazing. Some standout items: - ALBONDIGAS CHIMAYO (Turkey Meat Balls) - SOUTH BAY CAESAR - GAMBAS AL AJILLO (Shrimp dish) Signature cocktails are delightful, handcrafted to perfection. The place had great energy, while offering a very comfortable dining experience. This is the best thing that has happened to the Riviera Village. By far the best restaurant in the area. Every review says the food was great, and it was. The pan con tomate is usually my baseline for tapas, and they made a great one. The cocktails were by far the best in the South Bay. They made an Aperol foam that was inventive and delicious. I don't review a lot of restaurants, I usually just let my spending declare wether or not I like a place, but I was irritated by the number of "professional" Yelpers(god help us) who've said it was great but they just couldn't give this place 5 stars. I am so excited as I type this review since I have been a Zazou customers for more than 10 years so imagine the expectations as I dinned for the first time at their opening night! First, let's talk about the decor since it was fully and not so fully remodeled, let me explain. It appears that they move the entrance door so there is no more small little bar that was kind of a wasted space, I think it is a good move. Then they removed the large separation wall between the kitchen and the dining are and the bar and the dining area, OMG, what a difference it makes! The place feels so much more open, relaxing and hip! They also left the ceiling unfinished which is very trendy right now, I think they could afford to do this because of the high ceilings. Lots of windows in the front, can't tell if they are the same or not but the place is well lite and feels huge. Second, the food which is the most important right? We started with the Brandade Gratin, the Anchovy Matrimonio and the sautéed local dates. I have to say that I am glad that we ordered the sweet and salty of the last 2 Pequena (appetizers), they worked perfect together! Their menu is very Spanish and North African, it reminded me of my trips to Spain just looking at the menu, mmmmm! Plates are meant to share which is wonderful, my type of restaurant, kind of large tapas. We also tried the citrus-quince salad which was my favorite with the anchovies and also the Albondigas Chimayo turkey meatballs. We finished the dinner with Fidelia which was amazing! and of course the dessert of State fair Churros (huge plate!) and cappuccino. To end this review, I wanted to reemphasize the wonderful service that this restaurant has been building his reputation from all the past years. I am very excited about this new trendy restaurant and looking forward to go back and continue to be a patron for many more years. This place is SO yummy and the service is delightful - especially enjoyed the server's assistant, Martin. On this visit, we enjoyed the olives, jamon Serrano, grilled bread, and tortilla for apps. The olives are probably my most favorite I've had - honest! Yummy balance of citrus with just the slightest bit of heat. For our main, we had the oxtail ragu and flank steak - both delicious but that oxtail... oh my! Every aspect of that dish makes my heart sing. Last night my girlfriends and I made the mistake of going to Gabi James for dinner. The Riviera Village was beautifully busy with the Christmas Walk and we all knew that every restaurant would be packed and probably a bit slow on service. We chose Gabi James knowing that at least the food would be excellent, which it definitely was. What we weren't ready for was the appalling treatment we received from the hostess, the manager Victor and also the (male) owner. My husband and I have been to the location countless times, REALLY!We frequented it mostly when it was Zazou's (same family) sometimes twice a week. We always eat and drink for pleasure, never caring about prices and tipping generously. Victor, the manager, knows us well and has for more than a decade. I can't begin to recount all of the service blunders starting with not even being greeted with at least eye contact for 20 minutes. We should have walked out then but unfortunately we didn't. I will never, ever, ever go there again even if given a gift card. I am sorry that I will not taste the delicious food they serve again but the treatment we received was unacceptable. Last note, it did not matter to any of the staff that we were there with our friend that even though going through chemo, she decided she wanted to go to Gabi James to celebrate her birthday. I had high expectations, but alas. The potato croquettes were creamy and delightful. The coastal fritter, while a bit greasy, was unique and flavorful. The clams with fideo was extremely SALTY and when the server asked, I told him. No offer to correct. My daughter ordered the churros and chocolate that came out cold. COLD. We were not asked how they were. Check came and was double charged. The server seemed to know that already based on his response. What a great experience we had at GabiJames! I came here with a group of girl friends and we had pretty much everything on the menu. Everything sounded great and paired so well with the Spanish wines on the wine list. I can honestly say each dish was as good or better than the one before. My husband and I were excited to try this place and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is stunning inside and everyone there from the waiters to the bartenders to the owners were friendly and helpful. They seemed genuinely happy to be there and enthusiastic about the menu. Sara and Adam (the owners) were both there and made a point to check in with us. The cocktails are amazing and unique and they have a comprehensive gin list for those gin lovers. We had the "jalapeño business" and the "sloe your roll" and loved them. My husband noticed they also had a really great selection of beers that are hard to find anywhere else. For dinner we had the croquettes (delicious), tortilla (better than I've had anywhere - even in Spain), the citrus salad, one of the pastas with clams and jamon, and the oxtail ragu. Everything was amazing and modern and the oxtail is a real standout - so so good. For dessert we had the churros which I loved because they weren't overpoweringly sweet. We also split another dessert that was somewhere between a flan and a creme brûlée - to die for. It would be worth it just to stop in for a glass of wine and dessert if you're in the mood for something sweet. Yes welcome to Redondo Beach like an old friend back in town. Gabi James's menu is California Spanish and I love it, could eat here everyday and have something so different. Since Redondo Beach looks and feels just like a hundred Spanish beaches, I feel like we are traveling for free and no jet lag. I started with a Citrus Sun cocktail, because it just sounded cool, and oh yeah nice and light you can hardly tell there is alcohol. The seats are super comfortable and the bar has the TV kindly out of the way so you do not get stuck watching it by accident, thank you interior designer. And love the colors happy turquoise. And the way the bar and banquettes are open to each other so friendly. First course had to have a Gilda, because there is never a four dollar item on the menu. And that anchovy olive lollipop really sets the tone, for me to order a Spanish white wine, got a garnacha blanca. Really love drinking from where the foods are from. Save the California wine for its proper place. Next I fall in love reading the menu and can hardly choose. This is what going out is supposed to be, fun, making stuff I cannot get a home. I got the Coastal Chickpea Fritter, cause when is the last time you saw that on a menu. It was crispy and tasty and super fun and easy to share. Main course had to get the Fideu, cause again, have not seen that on the menu like yet ever. Its just pasta and seafood, everybody's gonna love it. Tasty black garlic aioli on top, just like in espana. My neighbors shared some of their Tortilla Espanol, and wow, stop the press. The daily snack and national dish of Spain, far more important than Paella is so good, so simple and pure. Go for it. Cannot wait to go back for Pomegranate Lamb Chops. A great new restaurant. We had the dates, calamari, and ham to start - all were great and a little different. For main we had the oxtail and sea bass. Oxtail was awesome but the sea bass was a little salty. All in all a great restaurant and can't wait to see the improvements that happen considering this has only been open for a few weeks ! A little disappointed. Went out to celebrate our sons birthday spent $500. After the waitress broke a wine glass while serving it wine & glass went everywhere. Not ony did my sons clothes get soaked but both my husbands and I got wet too. All they could offer is a free dessert for the Birthday boy. Coming from a restaurant background I know my grandparents who were restaurant owners for over 40 years would have done a lot more. A comped meal or drinks and probably would have offered to pay for a dry cleaning bill. Food was good but definitely disappointing and most likely will not be back. :( read more
