There hasn't been a dish that I haven't liked here. The service may be a little slow, but the wait is worth it. Keep in mind that rice is not free, so if you are eating on a budget keep that in mind. Typically Koreans eat this on a hangover or when it is raining because it is supposed to warm you from the inside-out. The place isn't big, but it is never crowded. Visited this chain in koreatown and really liked their gamjatang so when one opened in Rowland Heights, I decided to take my mom and have her try. Food is great but I see why they have an average of 3 stars. Customer service. They had plenty of waitress going around for how busy it was the restaurant. FOOD - 3 stars My order was the Daeji Bo-Samm which was very good for my first time trying it out, although it could have been better. The ddeobokkie was not what I expected. The rice cake was too big and can taste little chunks of the sauce. It would have been nice if there was more to it added such as ramen, fish cakes, egg, etc. I'd gladly pay extra for the additions. When the sign up front prominently display "help wanted", I should probably know what I'm setting myself up for. They are definitely short of staff and the service really suffered. However, I've been here before and I've enjoyed their pork stew. Made up with mostly pork backbones, the spicy broth also has a good helping of veggies that mostly comprised of potatoes (I guess that's why they have a potato mascot next to the "help wanted" sign). I find the level of spiciness to be just right for my taste, which I am very thankful for since you can't customize the level of spiciness. A small size should be enough for two, or even three people, based on my experience. Don't forget to request the free kimchi fried rice at the end that will definitely that will guarantee you leave the place holding up your stomach if you were not full with the stew yet! The worst service I've ever received. First and foremost, this restaurant is extemely understaffed; leading to the lack of attention to thr customer and forgetfulness. In addition, the waitresses are extemely rude and demand tip from the customer diaregardding their poor service. My family and I absolutely love this place..so good and the portions are really generous. Whenever we eat here, or in this case take it home to eat, we are extremely satisfied. We ordered the large gamja tang. Family of four, two teenage boys...that should give you an idea of the portions needed to feed our family. Gamja-tang or korean pork neck stew is basically a spicy stew with pork neck and potatoes. Apparently, potatoes help offset the gaminess of pork (who knew?!). I came alone on a Sunday night and was seated immediately. The single serve option is actually pretty big! I had more than enough food to have soup again the next day. The meat pretty much falls off the bone and the broth is full of flavor since the meat is bone-in. You can also ask for purple rice as opposed to regular rice. I also had the vegetable pancake, which I actually don't recommend. Stick to the gamja tang. If you come with others, you can have your gamja tang hot pot style. My parents came here thinking it was a different place, but we found out that it had been replaced by Gam Ja Gol 2 recentely, as there was a "Grand Opening" sign in front. I was confused that they didn't give us rice bowls with the gam ja ttang because we were just drinking the soup and eating the meat...normally I like eating rice with it. Their reason for it is that they provide rice in the end to make some fried rice with the leftover broth. And so they did...and it was decent... Definitely not as good as somunann in Cerritos.
