This is the cutest coffee shop with an amazing concept ! I've lived near this gem for 6 years and barely discovered it. Definitely a HIDDEN GEM. The coffee is great and the service is even better. Didn't get a chance to try the food due to renovations but I did get to enjoy my coffee with my friends and a good ol board game. They offer so many games to borrow during your time at the cafe and they also have a great assortment of games you can purchase to take home. Even though I am not a "gamer" I thought the atmosphere was unique and inviting. I asked the barista if the matcha latte was made well (sifted, whisked, & milk-matcha ratio). She reassured me that they mix it well and it won't be clumpy and watery. Unfortunately, it was in fact watery and had clumps. To say I love this place is a gross understatement. Although this place does have some cons, it is rarely their fault, and it doesn't take away what an incredible atmosphere, good food, and super friendly workers offer. You can "rent" games (with your ID), bring your own, and/or shop for new games while you eat and drink. Staff is knowledgeable! The food and drinks are almost always fantastic. I've had nearly everything on the menu but my favorites are the nutella caramel shake and the hot honey tater tots. If you want to get a table on a weekend, you better get there early as the place fills up fast and usually people (like me and my friends) are in for a long haul of games and eating. Cons: Parking is very limited as it's on a busy street corner that meets up with a residential. Once in a blue moon you get a mediocre drink or food item but it's because of the someone making it rather than the dish itself. I've gotten under seasoned quac and watery tea but, as I've had it before, I know it's just an off day. The people next door will not move out or sell or whatever the case is so this place, although fairly sizeable, needs more room! This place is a great vibe with fab offerings! For only $5 per group, you can play as many games as you like. They have a really wide selection, including casual games and more handcore ones. You can buy games here too at reasonable prices. The cafe is a delight too. Everything is super reasonable and they do meals as well as more snacky items such as baked goods. The place is licensed so you can have a boozy afternoon playing boardgames if you like beer, cider or mead. A great ambiance and design too- I always feel at home and wish we lived closer. Me and my two kids went here on a weekday while waiting for my husband to get off the train because we were visiting family. And we had high expectations of this place because of the reviews. Just that it would be a café to sit down, play a game while we wait for our food, eat our food, and go. We ordered super basic food and one coffee. The coffee I got within five minutes. The first plate of food came after 30 minutes. Then my five-year-olds got her food after 45 minutes and my four-year-old got her food after 60 minutes. Not only was the timing terrible, but my daughter's salad had a spicy green sauce on it that she couldn't eat, and my other daughter had the same sauce drizzled on her pizza that was too spicy. Granted we had never been there before, but you would think when they were taking the order from my children they would say something about the kid friendliness of an item. Honestly, I wouldn't be writing the review about the food because I tried their food and I thought it was delicious. I love grabbing a table and doing work while eating one of the multitudes of good food on their menu or will play game boards for hours with friends. Game N Grounds has been on my bookmarked Yelp list for a while, so I was happy to finally try it out. They've been open for two years and the ambiance is great! You can rent and play tons of board games after providing your ID, which they return when you bring back the games. When I say they have every type of meal imaginable, I mean it. Appetizers to crepes to soups and even vegan options galore! But let's talk about their mint chocolate milkshake ($7.99) - it was basically summer in a cup with a side of hilarity (I mean who doesn't love a good pun?) The service was wonderful! What a great game cafe... good food and drink, great gaming tables, great selection of games and a decent run of RPGs (including some of the larger small houses so they've got Blades in the Dark, Scum and Villiany and Band of Blades and such). They don't carry much indie RPG stuff (which is my wheelhouse) so shops like Geeky Teas are way ahead there, but for the average gamer, this place is amazingly VERY nice. I love to come here to play chess with friends. The atmosphere is cozy, and the baristas are super nice! As much as I love this place, though, I think the food is pretty mid. I ordered breakfast panini, but there was no sauce or anything; the taste was pretty bland. Just eggs, ham, and a little bit of cheddar cheese with sourdough bread. I think this can be a quick fix, though. It would be nice if it comes with some sauce on the side. Other than that, again, I love g&g !! On a Monday afternoon at 2:30 pm, I was looking for a place to have a light very late breakfast. Game N Grounds is a very interesting place that has a small food menu (breakfast all day, lunch, bakes goods and pastries). It also serves beer and wine. What is unique is that one side is where the ordering and kitchen is located. Other side is the book and game area. Both sides have dining tables. People come here to eat, hang out and work. The whole premises is exceptionally quiet. The only chatter one hears is that of the employees. I came here to try their crepe. I chose to have bananas and strawberries with chocolate drizzle and vanilla ice cream. I emphasized that there be no Nutella or caramel (which were also available). I had seen pictures of small crepes in the media, so I also ordered a side of small tator tots. It comes with ketchup. I was offered another sauce and I chose the jalapeno vinaigrette. This jalapeno sauce was dynamite. Tator tots were crisp, and oven baked. Would have tasted better if it was deep fried :) Undoubtedly, the star of the show was the crepe. It was a good size (I should have skipped the tator tots) and hit all the spots on my discerning taste buds. The crepe was made fresh, warm, soft and tasted good on its own. The fresh fruit and chocolate enhanced the flavor. The vanilla ice cream was creamy and contrasted well with the temperature of the crepe. Friends and I get together once a month or so to play DnD here. Lively, fun, but make sure you arrive early enough to grab a table for your group, especially on weekends. Food is great, recommend the egg roll-up or garlic grilled cheese. Any board/card game you can imagine is free to rent to play! Great concept but my 3 star overpriced hotel's coffee maker makes better coffee than here. Got my regular vanilla latte and the silky oat -milk was absent. The coffee seemed burnt. It's not hard to steam and get silky smooth oat milk. Quality is not there at all-especially for paying $8 dollars. Come if you like Nerdying out to board games. I'm down next time for a solid game of Uno. Didn't try the all day breakfast but may give that I shot if I'm back in the area. Have a dog? Spent the afternoon here with my daughters and we all had a great time. They have a large variety of games to play and/or buy, miscellaneous gaming accessories, and plenty of seating / tables. We enjoyed lunch, desserts and a few drinks. While trying to learn a new game, the owner George kindly offered help as he knew it was a bit complicated by the look on our faces lol. He sat with us for quite a while until we felt comfortable enough to continue playing. Wow! That made all the difference and was beyond all expectations we had. I did enjoy the game "7 Wonders" and look forward to playing it again. Now for the rest... The Hot Honey Tots (left off bacon), which came stacked in a decent sized bowl, were crispy and delicious. Order these! Tried several Panini's, all were very tasty and grilled perfectly. Brave Chicken Jalapeño was spicy and so good, the Black Bean Smash was tasty but I would've liked something to dip it in, and the Pizza Panini was the best of all! They all came with a fresh side salad with a spicy dressing. They offer a nice selection of snacks and beverages and desserts/pastries. We got a chocolate chip muffin which was moist and tasty. We all got beers and/or wine, which were all cold and refreshing. We all ended up with a Lavender Latter with Oat milk; there was just a hint of lavender, which I actually liked, served in a nice mug with a heart shape in the foam...love those touches. All in all, a unique and fun place to spend an afternoon. We will surely be back. Go check it out and let's keep this unique business open for years to come. The eats are unbelievably mid. My friend got a breakfast burrito and I got a chicken jalapeño sandwich. The food sounded great on the menu but I genuinely felt a tear run down my cheek once I took a bite of the food. The chicken had no seasoning/flavor and they basically gave me 3 sad deli slices. In addition, my friend's breakfast burrito looked like it was taken out of the freezer aisle from Walmart, consisting of 90% beans and no seasoning on the egg.
