I would steer clear of the pork chop, because it was dry. Sister restaurant to Super Star (they are within 2 miles of each other) I loved their food when my mom would bring it home while I was a kid, and I love their food as a full grown adult. I appreciate how they have always made their plates affordable for the community. It's fast filipino breakfast food. The portions are big for what you pay. The service is quick. Don't be alarmed with how the restaurant looks, THE FOOD IS FIRE. It does get pretty busy in the mornings especially on weekends. Parking can be a pain as it's in a pretty busy area of SF and finding street parking is sometimes the worst. Hongkong style porkchop and longanisa are my go to's. I was in the area and craving Filipino breakfast so found this place on Yelp and called in my order. The lady was extremely rude and abrupt on the phone, but I just shook it off. It was a Saturday morning after all. Upon arrive at the location to pickup my phone the lady/cashier, was taking a phone order and yelling at the customer. So for customer service I give this place a 0. No excuses, if you don't like your job, quit. Don't make this an unpleasant experience for others. Food: I ordered the lonsilog and tapsilog. It came with garlic rice, eggs, and pineapple. I have to say, I did not understand the pineapple or why it was placed on top of the fried egg. The eggs were not consistent and cooked differently. One was over hard and one was over medium. The garlic rice was basically rice with garlic on top. And the tapa, which is usually my favorite breakfast food, was way too sweet and did not bring back the memories of my childhood. The only thing they had going for them was the longanisa. I have only ordered the HK Pork Chops and it comes with two hefty pieces of pork chops the size of your face along with garlic fried rice, an egg and pineapples. I usually order a side of soup so the fried pork chop isn't drying up my throat. I usually can't finish both pork chops in one sitting, so it's nice to be able to save it for later. Cash only and they don't take venmo. We waited for around 20 minutes before finally getting our order. It is small in there and little space to wait so I would recommend waiting outside or in your car. The portions make the food worth it but I do think they pack way too much rice and the meat to rice ratio is uneven. I think the longsilog was also an extra $6 which was a little pricey for 2 pieces, but they were decently sized and had a good flavor. The porkchop was tasty as well but a little dry. Not bad wait time. Took the food back to San Mateo which was about a 20 minute drive. Pork chop was still crunchy, but I think it would have been a lot better if I ate it immediately after getting the food. This is my little weekend secret. They finally know me by now (I think...) so I guess it's only fair to share it with the internet. Nestled in between a string of mom & pop shops is Gateway Kitchen, a Filipino Chinese restaurant with five tables, "open" kitchen, cash-only service, and the (first and) best hungover HK pork chop I've ever had. Heck, I'm never hungover and I want this all the time. The boyfriend turned me onto this place almost two years ago and I've never looked back. His family has been coming here for at least 5-10 years now and nothing has changed. A plate of longanisa or beef or boneless fish will still cost you $5-7 dollars with two heaping scoops of garlic rice, a fried egg, and some pineapple chunks. My go-to is the deep fried, heavily battered Hong Kong pork chop. When they give you so much pork chop that the lid doesn't even close... that's when you know it's gonna be a good meal.
