I actually rate Gateway To India at 3.5 stars, but I always round up. The decor is over the top: somebody has plundered their personal collection to place small, medium, and large Indian knickknacks on every surface and wall space available. The atmosphere earns them an additional star. The menus are leather bound books with reinforced laminated pages. The lunch crowd gets regular booths and tables, but the dinner crowd gets linen tablecloths and cloth napkins. If the food lived up to the atmosphere this restaurant would get 5 stars. I ordered the Kerala Shrimp appetizer ($10.99). 5 large tail-on shrimp with peppers & onions and medium hot sauce. They were tasty, but nothing special. For my entree I tried the Goat Kafriyal ($20.99). I had called ahead to make sure they had goat because I've been wanting to try it . Not sure if it's just this restaurant or the meat, but I wasn't impressed. The taste was ok, but the numerous small bones and layers of fat made it hard to get to the meat. Our server was pleasant and spent a few minutes chatting with us, but since we were the first customers through the door when they opened he has nothing better to do. This place is a gem y'all! I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I go here often - the food and the service is always consistent. Every time friends or family come into town, I take them here! Our typical order, below, is roughly $75 pending drink additions and we always have leftovers. Highly recommend: Aloo tiki - it's like no other you've had and absolutely amazing! Chicken Madras - sauce is so creamy and perfectly spicy. Chicken Tika - just do it. Ask for lemon on the side! The flavor is *chefs kiss* Pashwari naan - the best I've ever had is from here!! Karela Shrimp - coconut adds such a sweetness with the peppers. So so good!!! The restaurant itself is also so cozy and the service is phenomenal! The two gentleman running front of house are so sweet and attentive. I wish I could give them 100 stars! We ordered rice, tandoori roti, tandoori chicken, tadka dal, and a green salad. The standout dish by far was the dal. It was exemplary, simply delicious, and honestly one of the best restaurant dals I have had. The green salad was a pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual cucumber, onion, and tomato combination you see at most Indian restaurants, this one included cucumber, lettuce, and chickpeas. The dressing was not great, but the salad itself was fresh and interesting. The tandoori chicken was good, though a bit heavier than expected. There was more masala and oil than necessary, which made it richer than it needed to be. Overall, a very satisfying meal and definitely better than Malai. I would order from here again. read more

I usually get takeout, but have eaten in a handful of times. The restaurant inside is small, but the vibe is cute! The service is always exceptional and quick. Let me preface by saying all the food we were served was excellent and a return trip is in our future. Hubby and I were craving Indian cuisine and this place had great reviews so we decided to check it out. We were greeted with a smile and the service was quick and polite. We split a large Taj Mahal beer which was excellent and ordered Chicken 65 as an appetizer to split and Palak Panner as an entree to split. Our appetizer came and it seemed a bit odd looking for Chicken 65. We are semi familiar with Indian cuisine, but by no means experts. I spooned some on my plate and took a bite and realized this was paneer and not chicken. We called our server over and he said, you are right, that is the chili paneer, let me get you the correct appetizer and this one is on the house. The appetizer came out pretty quick and was the correct one. Next came our entree. We thought that it looked different than what we were used to, but took some bites anyway. Another server came up and inquired on our meal and I said this Palak Paneer is very different and she said that is not Palak Paneer but some other dish. She apologized and went back to get our correct order. This one did not come as swiftly and we ended up taking most of it home. All in all we did get to try two items for free that we did not order, but it it always nice to get what you ordered in the first place. read more

We also ordered an okra dish which was flavorful. And of course Garlic Naan. The restaurant is well-appointed. My only criticism is that there road sign is worn off so you can't see the name. Late dinner on a Friday night, had no wait for a table. Small dark dining rooms, cut with pops of color and high-backed booths provided an intimate feel. The staff was fantastically attentive and worked together in service. We started with cauliflower appetizer, samosas and vegetable pakora. The chutneys were perfect accompaniments to the samosas and pakora. The cauliflower is lightly battered and fried but unfortunately was soggy and cold in spots. The flavor was excellent but couldn't save the dish from poor execution. This is one of my favorite dishes and cannot be prepped ahead of time when it's battered and sauced. For dinner, we shared chicken korma medium spice. I love spicy food and this dish was really on the mark. Tender white meat chicken in a cashew gravy. I had to order raita to cool the fire but totally worth it. The onion kulacha was good but not as 'stuffed' as expected. I had to try the 'sexy naan'. It could have been the green chilies in the naan that contributed to the fire raging in my face. I loved it. The two of us sharing three apps and one entree filled us to burst without having take away boxes. Surprising that they weren't packed for a Friday night. We opted for take out for our first time dining experience and I'm so glad we decided to give this authentic (true to its name) restaurant a try! We ordered chicken tikka masala which came with a heaping portion of white rice and added a side of garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala was a creamy tomato base, similar to a tomato basil soup and had large chunks of white meat chicken which was seasoned to perfection! The sauce was not spicy at all and was labeled mild so if you prefer heat let them know to spice it up! The rice was a perfect base and allowed the sauce and seasoned chicken to really sing! The garlic naan was perfectly garlicky and had touches of cilantro as a garnish. You could taste hints of cilantro but it was not over done and left me wanting another bite! I can't wait to try more dishes from this establishment. The portions were plentiful and I would almost say you could split between two people for a lighter meal. read more

This was my very first time eating Indian food. Never in my life did I think I would like Indian cuisine. My uncle pushed us to try something new and OMG! I am hooked! The food was AMAZING!!! I 100% would eat here again 100x over! Kumar our waiter was amazing and patient with us finding something to try. I had the chicken madras and if you like coconut it was delicious! Every single thing we tried (everyone got something different to try) was absolutely delicious. Nothing was 'hot' spicy, which is what I was afraid of. They will make your heat level what you desire! Came back here after years It isn't as good as I remember. We ordered the Delhi chaat- good. It's cold as described, crunchy, good amount of yoghurt and chutney. However typically the chickpeas are warm in this dish, they were not in this restaurant version. The daal makhani: it was okay. Maybe because we ordered "mild." Chana masala: didn't taste like authentic chana masala, slightly over cooked. Daal makhani and Chana tasted like the same base sauce The laacha paratha were not soft, they were multiple layers, but didn't feel fresh. The rice didn't taste freshly made. Maybe because we came in at 11:30AM, but the food came out right away, not sure if this was left over from prior day. Service was great. Described all food well.
