Man i miss Genki sushi!!!! Its so fun!!! Pick the ones on the conveyor belt or if you don't see what you want then order it on the menu. The sushi themselves are good but not super. I believe the ones here in NY are much better in quality and taste but much more pricey. I love Genki because its fun looking at your food spin around. Genki Sushi is definitely more about the experience than the quality of sushi.. but it's still a really great time for not a lot of money. My boyfriend and I had fun grabbing random sushi dishes off of the revolving belt. We kept an eye on the sushi chef to see what he had put down last.. then would grab a dish here and there as it came by. Spicy tuna, spicy tempura roll, tuna, salmon, dragon roll, etc. were all pretty good. Also enjoyed some fried squid. The bill wasn't bad- $35 for two people and it was pretty much all we could've eaten. Service was fast and friendly. No one had to wait to sit down on a Sunday night. :) read more

Oh Genki Genki. Always there when I need my ahi fix. NOW KEEP IN MIND, I'm not a seafood lover. Actually allergic to a lot of it. But I love me some AHI. Not the fanciest top of the line sushi, but for the price, quality, and convenience - definitely a four star in my book. ANYWHERE that offers FREE hot tea gets brownie points from me. Love the tea & they give it to you hot - just how I like it! The workers were nice and attentive. My cup of water was always filled! And they were really good about taking orders. Conveniently for me all the items I normally order were freshly put on the conveyor belt! Woohoo. I've never seen a spicy bomb on the belt, so I'm glad this location does that. I love the spicy bomb - such an awesome fusion of sweet and spicy. The ahi is the perfect size! I don't like it too large and chunky. Next on my list... a simple tuna salad. Hehe. Genki Sushi at Kapahulu is back and better. The new location is within the Safeway Shopping Plaza and even though it's somewhat smaller than the old location right across the street, I didn't have any problems getting seated and served. There is no conveyor belt; you basically order everything through the touchscreen pads at each table or seat and it comes to you via two Bullet Express lanes. read more

Seated next to the conveyor belt, plates cruise through most booths, and you grab whatever you like. I love how they have a menu of the sushi selection divided by prices. The spicy tuna roll, fried chicken, croquette, rainbow roll, and dragon roll were all soo tasty. what what? a hot dog roll??? I'm not a fan of hot dogs, but I did see it float on by. Pass. I did not pant like a dog silly you, but by sheer instinct or hunger I immediately grab a small plate of avocado roll and lay it down my table, then I notice my sister-in-law was looking at me with a smile I thought she was going to politely scold me for being rude or gracefully wills say I am glutton but she just advise me to order it directly to their ever smiling servers, she said it is best way to get your food fresh. "You have no idea how long those sushi been sitting there" (hmm I pretty sure they have some system which they can tell how long their stuff been on the belt, you know just like lost luggage in airport. Cheap and fast is the best way to sum up this place. Do not come here if you're looking for any kind of quality. The experience itself is pretty cool and fun. I'm from California and as far I know we don't have this chain. You can sit at a table, but the fun part comes from sitting at the bar. There's a tablet directly in front of you which you order from, no waiter necessary. The sushi comes out really quickly on a boat that makes its way down a track and stops in front of you. Their rolls are more like half rolls and have very little fish on them which is part of why it's so cheap. The rolls were ok. This place would be great hangover or late night drunk food. I had a couple rainbow rolls and a roll with eel on it. Nothing tastes fresh. Honestly can probably get the same quality for the same price from the Safeway nexr door. read more

Sub-par. Ok, given, it's kaitenzushi, so I'm not expecting ultra-fresh sushi prepared by artisans, but I do expect that it be better than a sushi bento, and frankly, I'm not sure it was. I've been here many times over the years (usually drunk) and this was my first time sober in recent memory, so I thought I'd give it a shot. The maguro (tuna) was limp and almost cloudy, the chicken donburi was oily and mushy, and the tempura were inedible. I enjoyed the poke sushi, but I always like poke, and frankly you'd be better off getting some tamura's poke (and beer) and sitting on your porch. It was not worth the price. On the other hand, the service was efficient and friendly. So here's my recommendation: come with friends, split some large bottles of Kirin or Sapporo, and experience the shared joy of picking sushi off a conveyor belt. read more

Got to eat here to spend sometime with my father, who is usually very busy and we never really get to have lunch together. So, we went here and surprisingly it was very empty. So we pulled up a seat and started eating, the fresh salmon was delicious! It had almost a buttery texture and it just melted in my mouth. The old man ordered a Chicken Karaage and what can I say, it was crunchy and dry. I guess they deep fried it too long, yeah I can understand the dangers of serving undercooked chicken but geez, does it have to be charred to a crisp? Albeit, this place isn't as fancy as the other sushi joints I go to, for the price this place can't be beat. I think this is the only Genki that serves alcohol as well (Win.). Parking can be a hassle, I've come here for dinner before and it can get pretty stupid trying to find parking in the surrounding area. My boyfriend and I have been sushi bar hopping recently. Of course, we are very much familiar with Kuru Kuru in Kahala and Pearlidge, Sushi San, and G-Sushi in Kaimuki. Last week Saturday, we decided to try this Genki Sushi in Kapahulu, since the Ala Moana one is still renovating. And it was the best decision we've ever made in a while. To be honest, I think we got lucky on parking because someone was pulling out of their stall as we had just drove into the lot. Otherwise we'd have to circle around a couple times or, worse case scenario, park across the street at Safeway. Upon walking in, we were greeted and seated immediately in a BOOTH! Like I've mentioned, we came here on a Saturday, and don't get me wrong, it was crowded but not crazy packed. My boyfriend and I were not excalty sure what we wanted yet but the server took our drink orders taken right then and there. At every sushi restaurant we've been to recently, we've been trying their "Seared Garlic Salmon Nigiri". This location definitely has that, BUT they also have a "SPICY Seared Garlic Salmon" and holy moly it is to die for. Initially we did not see it on the menu but we saw it on the sushi belt. The portion size is perfect (not too big yet, it wasn't too small like Sushi San), perfect amount of garlic and spicy sauce on top of the salmon, and last but not least, it is perfectly seared! You can pretty much safely assume that I think this nigiri is perfection. So we ordered 6 orders of the "Spicy Seared Garlic Salmon". The best part was that each one we ate tasted the same. This location is definitely on it with consistency! Their other nigiris are good, too, but nothing compared to the "Spicy Seared Garlic Salmon". So, try that the next time you're at Genki Sushi Kapahulu! Last Minute Yelpful Tips: 1. Go early! Even though it wasn't crazy last Saturday, we went there at around 2pm? As we were leaving we saw more people waiting to be seated. 2. There's one server, whom my boyfriend said looks like Uncle Fester, who's nice but a little unprofessional. They can't really accommodate a party bigger than 5 but they can you in two booths next to each other. Which has its pros because it allows for a better service between the group and gives everyone access to the moving sushi conveyor belt. This is the original Genki. The menu has changed over the years. Unfortunately, the variety of vegetarian-friendly items has narrowed, but I still leave happy with a full belly. Yes, choosing from the belt is fun, but I prefer to order from the server so that I can get fresh made sushi that hasn't been touched, coughed, sneezed, sniffed, and looked upon. Meh, go ahead and call me picky. My favorite is the vegetarian roll, but it's been discontinued for now. :/ Minus one star. Avocado roll, inari, edamame, agedashi tofu, and seafood salad are all on my to-order list. My friends all say the spicy tuna is a winner. The prices aren't too bad, and I can usually get away with a filling meal under ten bucks. Green tea ice cream usually pushes me over the edge, but it's so worth it! read more

Definitely my favorite genki location. It's just a lot homier than others like ala moana; and the ahi is usually fresh if you order from the bar. Another reason I prefer this one is because it's the only genki sushi that serves alcohol which is good for those days where sushi and beer just hit the spot. My favorite Genki Sushi on the island and the only reason why i stopped coming here daily was because I moved. Although you can expect wait times around dinner time almost every night you could request to be seated at the counter for a shorter wait time. Genki Sushi is in my opinion the best conveyor belt sushi joint you could go to. Their spicy tuna has never been topped in my book and keep coming back for more. My taste buds are probably biased because I grew up on Genki Sushi. This was the spot to go to after school was over and you will still catch me eating here from time to time. Make sure to not expect high quality sushi (you're not paying for it why would you) and you're trip should be pleasent. The first time I came here last year, I didn't think Genki was all that great. The sushi was predictable, the fish didn't taste that fresh, and not all that great despite all the hype. However, this time, it was a lot better. The fish tasted very fresh... Some of them were a tad to mayo-y for me, but the Acapulco roll was pretty good, and so was the scallop. I used to come to genki A LOTTT of times during high school...and now I don't even know why. I came here for dinner recently, thinking hey why not revisit that long lost restaurant! After we got a table and sat down, I noticed that the sushi on the belt was definitely old. You could tell that it had been sitting there for awhile. So i sat and waited, hoping for some awesome nice fresh sushi to appear magically. After about 5 minutes, a few fresh rolls came by, the spicy tuna roll, the shrimp tempura roll and fried chicken and fried salmon. It was alright, not the freshest or the best sushi I've eaten, but decent. After that, for the next 30 mins that I sat there, there wasn't any sushi that was new. I waited, until finally I got too hungry and grabbed a tobiko off the belt and ate it. Man, what a mistake. The rice was hard and the the tobiko wasn't that fresh. I kinda felt sick after eating it! At least hot green tea and water were complimentary for me to wash down the sushi! I did try the special of the day, which was curry udon. It was a tiny bowl with udon noodles and curry put on top. I wasn't top notch, but probably the best thing I had there that night! This restaurant is decently sized and for a Friday night, it didn't have that bad of a wait. We waited probably 10-15 minutes for a table. The service was great. They came around many times asking us if we wanted to order certain items and if we needed refills on water or soda. The prices are cheap for sushi, but considering the quality, I think I'd rather pay more for better sushi elsewhere! PS. Conveyor belt sushi restaurants are always concerning to me...you never know if people are touching your food on the belt before you eat it!! This place is great! I love that I can find lots to eat here even though I'm not a super huge fish fan. The color coded menu makes it easy to price your items. I agree with the previous poster that the same stuff tends to go around and around, but they do take it off after about 20 minutes. I love that you can order items off of the menu that you don't see going around as often, such as the kappamaki. The prices are reasonable, and I love eating here, but the wait is often a good 15 minutes. read more

I know, perhaps you are angry that you thought the circling green tea ice cream was indeed wasabi! is that it? I know that would leave me red in the face. Please fill me in. I was quit the opposite of you when I left the Kaneohe location. My buddy, his 2 kids and I rater enjoyed the endless selection of rotational goodies. Matter of fact, you, YES YOU, angry little guy, had a 3 year old engulfing sushi! Tobbiko, for a 3 year old, maybe it was the color, kids LOVE crazy looking s*&t. I, as an adult, but kid at heart, was reasonably impressed at the freshness and quality of "turn and burn" sushi and other offerings. I WILL go back, I plan on it. If there was anything I could frown about it would be that I did not get a balloon when I left, as did my more VIP kid cohorts. Sure, you all are not the most "high end" type place, and might not be the WORLDS BESTEST when it comes to sushi, but seriously, no need to be angry at your concept. Parking could be better, but really, parking in Kapahulu usually sucks anway. I both like and dislike that they keep coming up with new dishes that I like, but my usual dinner for 2 bills have gone from $35 to $45 to $65 as I start buying more and more $5/black dishes! Genki Sushi - it is what it is. It's a fast food sushi joint and that's exactly what it offers you. All the locations get pretty busy. The prices are affordable. I'm a cheap eater so I can get away with a $10 meal and be super stuffed. My boyfriend, who eats a lot and is still a cheap eater, gets away with a $15 meal. I come here not too often (as I frequent the other Genki locations as well) but I live close to this one. The parking is okay when it's not peak hour but I avoid the place like crazy when it is. I'm not fighting for parking! I like to come right before the dinner rush. Things my friends tend to order: Spicy ahi don (I personally prefer just getting the spicy ahi nigiri), maguro nigiri, croquettes, inari, california rolls, and some of the tempura stuff. I love the spicy tuna a lot. I like their avocado maki even though I think they are cheap on the amount of avocado. I also order the kappa and oshinko maki as well. I don't like their somen salad. There is just something lacking in it. I'm not quite sure how you can ruin a somen salad...but I guess they can. Sushi-connoiseurs will do well to avoid this place, but if you expect the standard level of mediocrity across the board, then this place will be great! This place does not have the best sushi out there, but the fish is very fresh (it is Hawaii afterall) and the prices are very cheap - whenever I come here we rack up stacks and stacks of plates. The downside is that this place is so popular they sometimes run out of your favorite dish -- like the poke. Try to come here for an early or late dinner to avoid the massive wait. read more

Shockingly good for a sushi "train/boat" type place. I really like that when you order a roll it's a smaller portion, like a half order so you can try a lot of rolls. Genki has always been a great fast-food sushi spot that I enjoy while visiting in Hawaii. It adds up quick tho! They have variety, but not as much as a usual sushi joint. If you are looking for a quick sushi fix, visit any Genki in Hawaii. The staff was very friendly, the food was fresh, and there wasn't a wait when we visited. It is cheap for sure, but the convenience of how fast they are just makes it even that much better! Genki was never the best quality sushi, but the quality seems to have gone down as well. Ambiance - No more kaiten sushi. All sushi is ordered through touch screen menus and arrives by "bullet train". The place is clean, yet has no character. Value - Low. Servings much smaller than other locations. This is probably one of my favorite sushi places to go to with my five year old. I think it's because of the button system they have with the bullet train serving trays that my daughter loves it so much. We will order and her job is to press the button to return the train. Very entertaining. This location is usually always busy on a Saturday night, but the wait really isn't too bad... and their service is always very welcoming and everyone is always smiling so I love the atmosphere of this location. It's clean and the servers are always very good at refilling your water or tea. They are very good at checking up on you to make sure your ok or if you need anything despite the self serve system. From the moment I walk in till when it's time to pay for the bill I absolutely love the great customer service everyone here gives me. Even when I am calling in to do a phone order they are courteous and efficient and the food quality is consistent. It's obviously not fine dining sushi but it's always served well presented and you can tell they don't let it sit out too long. I appreciate that. read more
