The service here was awesome. The waiter was very nice and answered alot of our questions. However, if you're thinking that this Genki is like those in Hawai'i, you're bound to be disappointed like I was. While many dishes are similar or exact, many items cannot be found from the Hawai'i locations. Even the spicy aspect of Genki Sushi is lost in Washington. But, that does not take away that it did fulfill my sushi craving enough for me to stave it off until I get back home. The area this establishment is located in is quiet and not too busy. The overall atmosphere within the restaurant is like that of the original Kapolei Genki Sushi, which was bustling and still has the conveyor belt sushi! Came on a Wednesday night with maybe 3 tables being served. Ordered takeout and asked if the wait would be about 20min? The server said no, only takes about 15 minutes. 30 minutes later I came by to pick up my food and it wasn't even getting prepared. Was asked to wait another 15 minutes then another 15 minutes after that. I had to wait until literally the restaurant closed... I only ordered $20 worth of food, I didn't cater for a birthday party. Zero explanation for what the hold up was for besides the order being backed up while no one got any food for an hour, not sure how that was possible. The wait staff was not friendly or helpful, our waitress walked by us 3 times avoiding eye contact after she got our drinks and had us waiting for a good amount of time. Honestly, I am very biased and loyal to genki. I grew up with them in Hawai'i so my expectations are very high. This location has food priced right and has EXCELLENT customer service. I can tell they have a Washington spin on things esp with their fish dishes. Loved their mixed poke dish, fried teri dish, and udon. With that being said, they have some things that are consistent with other Genki, but they would benefit from routine visits back to the mothership to ensure their traditional/basic dishes have not deviated too far. It's ok to get creative and innovative with new dishes, but the basic dishes need to left alone and really be the best quality. Just my 2 cents! read more

This would be my last time eating tempura udon in Genki. It used to be our favorite sushi place where nearby my home for many years when there has not many sushi restaurant options in the city. Tempura Udon is one of my fav comfort food that I ordered everytime in Genki, I enjoyed very much with the crunchiness of giant fried shrimp, but now look at the size of the shrimps they've made. Being able to dine in during COVID has been such a pleasure. While we miss seeing the sushi on the conveyor belt, the new ordering system is great. Your sushi is made to order vs mass produced. Food has been consistent, and a new sushi chef is very meticulous. Just peep the beautiful avocado salmon bowl he made. Be prepared for long wait times for indoor dining due to decreased capacities. They are floating well due to high take out orders. Can you compare this to sushi greats like Yasuda and Jiro, no. Is it the same level as I Love Sushi in Bellevue or Miyabi nearby? We keep trying to go but something always happens. The last time we went I called in advance to make they were open because the previous two times they closed early on a Thursday and some other day. They said we are not seating anymore at (7pm). The real reason was they had no more fish. We had to asked multiple times on why until they said no fish left to serve. Ya, try your luck somewhere else. Sushi is definitely cheap, and the rolls are bad. The hot lobster roll tasted like the tempura was fried in 1 week old oil. The dragon roll looked so bad I cannot even have the bravery to take it off the conveyor belt. Sushi wise, the yellowtail was decent. Masago was not good. The eggs tasted like fake eggs. I've had a lot of masago in the past, nothing like this masago... Chef was using the knife to cut the packages of tuna and using the same knife - without washing - to cut the sushi. Needless to say, my advise is to eat the mcdonalds across the street than to come here. Pray that I don't get food poisoning today especially when I'm flying off. read more

It's hard going to a Genki Sushi that doesn't have touch screens or a bullet train that brings your order to your table. (The Hawaii locations spoiled me!). This is the old school Genki Sushi where you are kind of forced to take the plates off the belt and you have no idea how long it has been sitting there. However, I am so glad that they put covers on the sushi plates on the belt. That is a plus! This location has most of the same items that Hawaii locations have. My favorites are definitely the garlic salmon, onion salmon, seared salmon, garlic salmon roll and dynamite roll (as you can tell, I love salmon). Service is okay. My hubby and I waited for a few minutes before being acknowledge and taken to a table when the restaurant was sort of empty. I'd give this 2 stars for the food, but let's say it's 2.5 stars because of the good service. I LOVE Genki Sushi when I was growing up in Hawaii. We came here for a little taste of back home. Some things that were different that I liked were that the wasabi was individually packaged and there were covers over the plates on the conveyor belt - all adding to cleanliness. I also loved how friendly the staff were and they all stopped by in intervals to give refills or ask if we needed anything. One thing that didn't change is how cringey their American "irasshaimaseeee!" is when you walk in - familiar, but cringey. I felt like all the non-raw fish things we got were good - tobiko gunkun, chicken karaage, and salmon skin roll. The spicy salmon, seared salmon, and spicy tuna were not fresh and I was pretty disappointed. Now that I've had my fill of Genki, I don't think I'll be back. However, there's definitely worse conveyor belt sushi in the area and in Washington overall. read more

This is my 3rd time coming in, today being probably the worst experience. There is not much on the belt, fish is not fresh, tasted a little gooey today.. gross. My cucumber roll is made weird, seaweed is all crumbled up. No ginger at the table. Service is slow, no one checked on our table, finally waved down a server for our check and she mistakes the table next to us and starts writing their check. What bothers me the most is that the whole time they are playing loud ass EDM here, the bass is so fucking loud that my soy sauce shakes on the table. I can feel my seat vibrating. I HATE giving negative reviews... I really truly do. I only write one if it is well deserved. Well, this is one of those times. This was the worst conveyor belt sushi (or any sushi) I've ever had. We really should've trusted the reviews on here. Main reasons why- *flavorless rolls (couldn't even taste the eel in the unagi roll) and most were just a huge ball of old dry rice (I have never seen that much rice in a roll in all my years eating sushi) *bowl of miso tasted like hot water with a quarter of a pack of instant added, *old/terrible quality fish. *My husband adores ikura (salmon roe) and albacore nigiri... he had to spit out the albacore into a napkin and he gagged when eating the ikura. I have NEVER seen him spit out food. Like, that man will eat anything. *The salmon nigiri was very old tasting and had clearly been dyed to look more red because it was dripping dye and the rice underneath was stained pink. It was disgusting. Also, the two rolls I ordered (tempura roll and crab tempura roll) took about 15 minutes to get to me :/ ... it wasn't busy. QFC has better sushi. For reals. My husband would like me to add that the conveyor belt was super dirty and covered in food/sauce/who knows what else, and that they give you packs of wasabi instead of a jar of fresh and it was brown tinged and tasted off. The staff were very friendly, which makes this even more awful to write. But I think we can all agree that the food is the most important aspect of a restaurant. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! This was the first Genki Sushi to open on the main land. Most have been international and in Hawaii but in Washington this was the first store to open I 2010. It was a great intro to sushi for me. I had sushi several times before but after this place opened I was hooked! I liked that you could view your selections as they move passed your seat and you cab pick off the conveyor belt as you pleased. The ultimate roll WAS the best until they changed the recipe in 2012, they omitted the spicy mayo and put regular Sriracha instead. The spicy mayo is honestly made a huge difference, but the new way still isn't bad. I'm sure you might be able to special request and order it the original way. I normally order nigiri (rice ball with fish on top) like albacore tuna, garlic salmon (seared salmon with garlic mayo and green onions), garlic shrimp (boiled shrimp seared with garlic mayo and green onions) and shrimp avocado (shrimp, avocado, red onion, mayo) There are a few rolls that I get as well, like the seared salmon roll(crab mix with seared salmon on top), salmon with cream cheese roll (cream cheese and cucumber with salmon on top) and the roll with shrimp tempura inside and spicy tuna on top. read more

Two or more years ago, I would have given this place 10 stars if I could!!! The place used to be so friendly, affordable, had great customer service, wide venue of food, everything! Now, it kinda deteriorated... I have come on both a weekend and a weeknight. Availability of food is hit or miss. Most days, you'll barely see food on the conveyor belts so you'll have to place an order (which will most likely take 10-15 minutes) and some days, most of the things on their menu will be available on the conveyor belt! I've seen this happen on both weekends and weekdays. Service is okay. Also hit or miss. Sometimes, they'll be super attentive and most times, not. The food though is soooo good! So so so good! And it's pretty close to where I live. So that's a plus. Prices has increased over the years as well. read more

Very disappointed. I've been here a couple times. The food is ok...it's conveyor belt sushi. But the food and service doesn't justify the high prices. We ordered from the menu with a server because everything on the conveyor belt looked like it's been sitting for a while. We didn't get half of our order. When we asked the server when is it coming she said they're done making sushi. It was 7:50 on a Tuesday night and empty. No one bothered to tell us. Food (4/5) - The sushi at Genki is pretty good. Most of the sushi dishes don't lack flavor and definitely don't have that poor "fishy" smell. And that's the key to genki, no fish ever seems to bring up any concerns relating to quality control. My top 5 sushi dishes in no particular order are: Garlic Salmon, Spicy salmon, Spicy Tuna, Fatty Salmon, and surprisingly the string bean roll. Customer Service (4/5) - The employees do their job, don't seem to be lost and will occasionally check up on you if you need anything. When ordering specific dishes the time till it hits your table may vary depending on your dish which at times can be sort of annoying but nothing too crazy. Atmosphere (4/5) - The place is simple. Noise wise it can get decently loud but you won't have to scream over your friends during a conversation. Pricing (2/5) - One issue I have with this place is that the sushi dishes are pretty expensive. If you want to fill yourself up the check might surprise you so be wary of how many plates you're consuming. If the dishes were all $1 cheaper(which is very unlikely to happen) genki would be a go to spot to enjoy meal. read more

First and foremost, this is fast sushi not Jiro's so temper your expectations for authentic an Japanese sushi experience. For those who do not know, Genki Sushi is a kuru-kuru sushi restaurant which is a rotating sushi belt. AKA fast food sushi. If you have been to a Genki in Hawaii be prepared to be disappointed that many of your favorites are not on the menu. However they make it up by offering California style rolls. I'm guessing this has much to do with the difference in clientele. I guess people up here like many of the non-traditional items like: Spicy Lobster Crunchy rolls Avocado on rolls! For starters here were the items that were not on the menu: Tai Anago Sea Chicken Toro Negitoro Amaebi The only epic fail is the "garlic chicken" which was nothing more thank karaage covered in Mae Ploy sweet sour sauce. You may be able to pull that trick over on some people but not me! Service was decent when they were around. On both visits the restaurant was terribly understaffed. The poor servers were running around like headless chickens. Long story short; its a great place for a cheap quick lunch away from South Center. read more

Oh YUM to the O!! Some of the best sushi rolls reigning from a conveyor belt I've had in some time. For some odd reason my sushi love has disappeared to who knows where. We used to get it up 5 times a week. Now...I just think I've been so upset at the sushi choices around my old neighborhood that I gave up. I tossed my unwavering need for my sushi fixes out the window!! Sad! But I'm happy to announce my sushi love has come back strong, and deeply, after having a taste of Genki!!! Yay!!! The rolls were exceptional and fresh. YASS fresh conveyor belt sushi!!! Maybe it was because they were so busy they had to keep Rollin out the fresh slabs of salmon and tuna. So of course it was fresh! Who knows but it was tasty, nori was tight and crunchy, rice was mushy with the right "rice separation" (you know what I mean), and the greens were cold and crisp. Just yum!!! They had a huge amount of seating, bar spots and also way more then your average 4 or 5 booths. The reason for my one less star was the service was a little slow to get to you and take your special orders if you weren't just grabbing off the belt. Ridiculous! All I gotta say. Great quality, flavor, and variety --- all with pricing similar to that of Sushiland & Blue C. Location: This is the 2nd closest kaiten sushi to me, besides Izakaya. It's also across the parking lot from Uwajimaya. And close to the Renton Park-and-Ride. Building: Situated between 2 businesses in a recent-years complex, it's in a great location for the area. Main entrance faces east, side at west. Awesome simplistic, modern design with a light atmosphere. Massive white embossed "location radar" map on a wall. Neat. If you take a look around, you'll notice it appears to focus on the element (and sensation?) of horizontal and vertical lines. Wood and white in the dining area, BAM! orange in the restrooms. A solid ambient light shooting off the side of the mirror. Super X-celerator hand dryer. Now, the toilet really impressed me. In all of my reviews, none of them have had a green toilet from what I could notice. This one has a dual-flush. Meaning a low flow and a high flow. Now, it shouldn't take you very long to figure out what flow to use for your, uh, load? I'll just say, it does NOT require alot of force to flush down your own freaking p!ss, people! Low flow, people, low flow. High flow for those notorious BM's. hehehe. Ahem, moving along! The front area is pretty cool. Flatscreen will be up and running eventually, very neat, and even saw a flower bouquet gift from some corporation. Service: Smooth and pretty attentive for having just opened. The belt additions didn't appear to be overkill. And all the chefs seemed to be asian; the staff perhaps mostly japanese (always cool). Food: And just when I thought kaiten sushi places 'round here couldn't get any more diverse, boy was I surprised! Here's a bit of what I saw making the rounds on the belt (some names surprising me): Spicy bomb... Whelk... Ahi Poke... Spam... Cold Tofu... Zuke Tuna... Marinated Mackeral... Fried Eggplant... among the solid sushi offerings and other items (like Fried Chicken---OMG!). Not bad for having only been alive a couple days. My first impression is that it'll only get better in time; and hopefully not go the way of the Queen Anne location with its mixed reviews. I'll definitely make a return sometime in the future. Only been here once but I'm already a fan! I love the location of this sushi shop but I love the prices even more. This has got to be the cheapest I've ever found sushi and it's good sushi too. It's not the best sushi I've ever had but you get your money's worth and then some. Came here with a coworker for lunch and though the place was packed, we were seated right away. For such an inexpensive place you would think they wouldn't have much variety but you'd be wrong. They have all the usual plus a bunch of cool rolls like the dragon roll, spider rolls, Spicy Tempura roll, Ninja roll, Ultimate roll, I think you get the point. They even have a spam roll and a hot dog roll, that's right, a hot dog roll, I think that ones for the kids. They also have salads, soups and fried chicken, so there's plenty of variety for every appetite. I'll definitely be back soon, this is my new favorite sushi spot that's close to work. read more

We used to love this place and come here often. Our visit Friday did not end well though. I think we got food poisoning here. Almost exactly 6 hours after eating here and not having anything other than water between this and when it hit, tells me we got it here. The food was room temp for the hot and cold items. I think everybody has too much standard on sushi for a conveyor belt place. This place does the trick if you want quick sushi on a lunch break, I personally prefer Genki over Sushi Land because it just feels cleaner here. It's a tad bit more expensive than Sushi Land, but not that much. We are talking about cents per dishes. I am a fan of the udon soup here, I also like how you could order from a menu if you don't see what you want on the belt and there are certain items that just aren't going to be on the belt like fried chicken because cold fried chicken is a no no. The last time I reviewed Genki was in 2014. It's been 3 years since and a lot has changed. For the past 2 months I ate here at least 3 time, and here is an update. Pros: - Great salmon nigiri - Large seating for groups - Modern design - Quick eat (conveyor belt) Cons - Too pricey for the lack of quality - Customer service is meh, it's a hit or miss, but mostly miss. Let me tell you why I visited Genki 3 times in the last 2 months. I am currently training to increase my gains. My diet consist of a high protein diet. So, knowing how quick I can get a salmon nigiri, really attracts me to this place. Other than that, that's it. The salmon nigiri is great... however if you're going to eat other plates, get ready to spend a large sum of dough. In reality, it's difficult to find a sushi joint that is good at price, and yet have great quality. Genki is the exact opposite. It is however better quality than the famous "Sushiland" in Tukwila, WA (know for their very inexpensive sushi plates). I would say Genki, is okay. Not a great place for formal meetings, but a great place when you're on the run or in the rush to get some food in your belly. read more
